The Grid (Out-Of-Character Thread)

Sorry, square grid games only. This is for symplicity and having a consistent theme. There really is a treasure-trove of games available without branching out into hex. Please feel free to suggest a square grid game though.

If you feel strongly about it, I could definately see a hex version of this. And I'd be happy to assist you in any way with setting something up...

Fair enough, I get that square based stuff is good for that, but I just thought I'd suggest it.

Also, I wouldn't be able to run something like this. Too technical and too many terms pulled from a hat for my taste. My biggest issue would be that I simply do not have the time to look into all the suggested games.

Anyways, I did have an idea that is almost always square grid based, with a few exceptions.

D&D. 5e, Faerun setting, mostly just the archetypes. I'd say if you're feeling really adventerus, allow any official setting. Allowing for Homebrew would just be asking for trouble.

We now have all the missing people replaced. They need a little more time to digest the basics, but my hope is that soon we will fall into a groove of faster updates.

Update: The replacement for MafiaScum was not feeling well, and I had to move on without them at this time.

Hugo Everett, Thief (FE7)

• HP: 2

• Size: "SMALL"

• Initiative: 10

Evasion (Passive)
If higher than before, incoming attacks have a 75% chance to miss.

Inventory (Passive)
You can hold up to 5 items. Items can be used once. If a weapon misses it won't be depleted.

1) Iron Sword (Melee)
2 damage. 25% sword is destroyed.

2) Longsword (Melee)
3 damage. +2 against "BIG" units. 25% double damage. 50% sword is destroyed.

3) Killing Edge (Melee)
2 damage. 25% miss. 50% double damage. 50% sword is destroyed.

4) Vulnerary (Special)
Use before or after movement. Heal for 2. 50% chance use not consumed.

5) Vulnerary (Special)
Use before or after movement. Heal for 2. 50% chance use not consumed.

Steal (Melee)
Ends your turn. If the target does not move away, see what items you could take from a unit. Only items that do not require a new meter can be stolen, such as single-use or unlimited use items.

Resupply (Post-Game)
Before battle you can spend the points from your last match to buy items. Items can be discarded to make room. Duplicates are allowed. Points will expire after you close the shop. Neither the contents of the shop nor your purchases will be known to the other players. (You have no points yet)

Promotion (Post-Game)
Win this game to become an Assassin in the next one.

I know I am filling in the ideas for grid based games, but I keep finding more. Also, I don't know if this idea was ever brought up, but... *deep sigh*

Tetris.

Curious...how do you see Tetris in this game?

Like, it is a grid based game, but what does the player do or become?

The characters are the different shapes, like the square is a basic unit with lots of health, the four line is a sniper, the two-two three wide diagonal one is the speedster, and the others have similar abilities.

And if six blocks worth of them line up in a single line, they generate an Exodia effect and deal one health bar of damage to any character they can see. Maybe more, maybe less, but something happens when you get a Tetris.

Though, honestly, Tetris is more like a map effect.

Is there a joke I don't know about circulating? I don't mean to come off as rude, but if my time on the internet has taught me anything, it's that if someone says "nice" by itself, then, it's usually because someone inadvertently said a joke word or phrase. Or they did it on purpose.

I'm mostly just curious if it's more of a "cool" nice, or a "They said it, boys, they said it" nice.

I can't promise I'll find a way to use a Tetris themed stage, but in the groups of 'nice' or 'not nice' ideas, I'd say it is the first.

Heyy, two questions real quick,
1. are people still allowed to join,
And
2. Would tower defense games work for this? Since most if not all of those types of games involve a grid of some kind.
then again, the problem with choosing a Tower from a TD game compared to a regular unit,
Well I don't think towers are capable of moving.

The game has started, but I'm not going to decide for the GM, since they could just say, "Eh, sure. Warp 'em in." And you're good.

As for Tower Defense, well, that's trickier. There are definitely grid based ones out there, but the thing here is that you have to specify specific games that use a grid based system. If you can name the individual games you have in mind, sure. Just have to make sure that they don't not use a grid based system. For example, Bloons TD isn't grid based, just a top down. Dungeon 3 or similar have grid based mechanics, but would ultimately be rather funky, since there is also large portions of the game in a non grid area.

I would love to have you on as a replacement incase one is needed.

Tower Defense games are cool, any in particular suit your fancy. One especially grid based of course? (Now that I think of it, I did just add PvZ to the list.)

In fact, if you want to play, stay available for 3 or 4 days, because the MafiaScum replacement is not feeling well so they may drop out soon. 50/50
