The Grand Solar Rush - Asteroid colony management quest

we've entered talks with Mr. Jarnstad and his parent company for further deals
This may be a source of concern. It took me a bit to remember but Jarnstad Is from Ironbond. And is the guy who tried to quite shamelessly get everyone to boycott Deckard Station at the last conference to drive them out of business. Now as soon as they have some unexpected trouble he is right there for deals? That looks suspect.

Even worse that he is making deals with Deckard who we rely on for our current rate of expansion. If he is able to pressure them into breaking our contract we lose one of our larger food markets and our stream of free housing expansion.

We can't kick Natasha out unless she commits a crime, and being a terrible human being isn't a crime.

I mean, I'm not saying that we should, but we're a privately owned asteroid. We can absolutely kick her off if we so choose.

We might be in violation of our own laws, but that doesn't actually prevent us from doing so if we're sufficiently motivated.

For that matter, we as ruling council could declare 'emotionally abusing Ken Hiragi' to be a crime punishable by immediate deportation.

But yes, probably a much better idea to convince him to DTMFA.

If we try and force her to leave without convincing Ken that she is abusive she very well may convince him to go with her.

But that's how it worked the last time we had a grant. Or do you mean that the grants will only be able to be used on specific things?
He is saying that the in universe reason for grants giving extra actions is due to them supplying money and contacts, but we cannot just spend some of our money surplus to buy extra actions.

Hmm.
How much does Ken trust Hailey, and her lie detection?

We could ask Ragnar and Hailey to spend time with Natasha socially, and subtly question her.
e.g. Invite Ken and Natasha over for dinner.

Or we could just be extremely blunt.
Forcibly interview Natasha, with Hailey observing.
Either record everything, or have Ken observe too.

Could take it a different direction, mind you. Just issue a silent order to everyone involved that Natasha is not to be employed by any of the business owners on the 'rock and blacklist any financial transfers from Ken to Natasha, and let nature take its course from there.

Remember; Little Klondike is running its own IMF node for banking transfers; as a government entity it's entirely within LK's rights to issue a hold on specific financial transactions as suspect. They don't even need to explain why, as it can be labeled as done for "State Security" ... which it absolutely would be: Ken is a valuable asset to the State. Ensuring his financial and psychological salience through such a measure would hold up in any court.

The bit where you blacklist Natasha's employment options is somewhat less so, but once she becomes financially non-solvent you have all the legal basis you need to evict her back planetside as long as you pay for the trip. And if you want to make it fully legal then you just pay her an arbitrative agreement settlement for the financial damages incurred for the blackballing ... once she's off of the rock.

Wouldn't work, she'd just get Ken to pay her stuff for her, pretty simply judging by how she's managed to convince him that she's giving him a second chance rather than the other way around

Edit: missed part of that, Ken would transfer to his workers who would then transfer to her, she seems semi intelligent in manipulation

I think the best option would be to have everyone close rank on Ken. Natasha can't isolate and gaslight him if he's hanging out with other people.

That way we can hopefully convince him that he deserves better than that bitch, or at least get a pre-nup if they get married again.

Right... that would then require the coworkers/friends to be complicit in his abuse, and would be able to be pointed to as evidence of her conduct, which could then justify psychiatric / social-working intervention which would also solve the problem of getting her off of the station.

Hm, it wouldn't be right to engineer the oust of Natasha by using our control of the station. The precedent it'd set would be terrible.

Let's just, as others mentioned, provide support to Ken, ensuring that he isn't isolated by Nat.

(Roll, thorough check – Ken Hiragi, required 65: 23)
Ooof. This sucked big time.

Spacer headlines: Local painter achieves overnight fame.
In light of recent New Belt summit, L5-Helen based art gallery has been swamped by visitors. The gallery is hosting an exhibition of the work of the mother of new age local statesman and entrepreneur William O'Rielly. Art critics have called the newly discovered talent "hard to parse but enlightening", say "parallels to audacity and formative influence shine through".
I don't get this though. What works? Was the painter just using works based on our architectural designs?

Nah, the MC's mom was a small-time artist, who got a big dose of exposure/fame/popularity because their son turned out to be front-page headlines in international news.

If we have any surplus of money next turn may be a good idea to see if we can buy any of her old paintings. Both as a way to remember her and to get a starting point for art gallery or culture center.

We could invite our family to visit/stay-at Little Klondike, as a Personal action.

Our mother may bring some paintings with her, if not she could paint one on Little Klondike.
Maybe ask her to paint the plaza, a "system wide wonder".

We don't even have higher educations for our citizens. Anything homegrown related to art is so far down the line as to be a non issue for now.

Given the presented information, I strongly think that we should not take Internal Affairs grants, and weakly favor Research instead.

This is because the fluff is that "EU and/or US loan you expertise and resources that you pretty much have to be a superpower to have access to" in order to get our second Action here. And while it's a little ridiculous to say we'll be able to keep the CIA out, there's a pretty big difference between "we cannot realistically keep the CIA out but we can at least make it a little bit annoying for them" and "let's literally invite the CIA in to help us run counter intelligence".

Instead, I think putting the option in the Research category both fits better narratively, puts all the obvious spooks in one place, and helps us directly stem the action hell that the anomaly's put us in.

Internal Affairs isn't just intrigue options though.
It has Schooling, Global WiFi, and. . . nothing else? :wtf:

I'm convinced, changing vote.

I was planning on using the grant to build the school while we used Ragnar's action into more pressing matters like doing a census so we can actually know what our population looks like and what they want or look into Ironbond since they seem to be starting shit.

I wouldn't worry about espionage unless explicitly told by the QM.
