By obvious in hindsight, did you mean for someone knowledgeable in-setting?

Or are we not far enough ahead for it to count as hindsight yet?

Because it is looking like what we overlooked was a hitherto-unknown (to us) law of magic.



Anyway, chalk that us as another failure for the cascade, I guess. This situation would be immeasurably easier if we knew what we could do, or had time to communicate with either our partner or Pale Horse.

@Sendicard 1) what ended up happening to Nixus? I vaguely recall getting a holster for him, but can't remember why we didn't manifest him, if we didn't.

2) Am I correct in thinking that we are currently in the space between the two buildings?

3) How far apart are they?

If the evironment is clement for it, we might be able to ascent the buildings by jumping from one to the other, at least at the start.

1: No it's actually basically chemistry.
You were very obviously saturated in dark energy, Powerofmind called it easily enough.
And an obvious law of chemistry that every child in school knows, is that if you mix exact chemical opposites, they have a dangerous reaction.

Now the idea that holy and dark energy are exact opposites isn't AS well known, but it's not exactly foreign in concept either.

Basically, you blew yourself up, and cleared your system while doing it. To be honest from a GM perspective, you're far better off right now odds wise, than you were a post ago. I mean, because of a certain lucky asshole and his rolls straight from god, you barely took any damage from it.

I also wasn't joking earlier when I said that one of my characters uses this as a legitimate strategy for fighting demons. He himself is a demon, and he uses a holy blade which tries to channel his energy when he casts it. So he regularly blows himself up. Difference is of course that he's used to it and has quite a few methods of protecting himself from it.

No, see, that would be obvious if we actually knew Burst of Fire was Holy. Or that Holy magic even existed.

That we have a spell which has an attribute we are unaware that even exists, will interact badly with an attribute in our own body is NOT obvious even in hindsight.

Burst of Flame-She's honestly not sure of the theory behind this one, but basically? It calls upon her inner flame, and turns her SP into flames.
The only real occasion of using them leads her to believe they may have a holy attribute, but there's no way to know that for sure as of the moment.
It is her only skill at the moment that deals in fire. She's not sure if it acts like normal fire, but she assumes it would.

I swear to god it's like no one actually pays attention when they ask me questions.

That "occasion" was when she used them and the fucking black sludge, which is later revealed to basically be the meaning of dark magic, backs the fuck off like you just cast Ultima 5

Even without my giving that to you when Skew asked, it should be able to be grasped easily enough. But no, if I hadn't JUST FUCKING TOLD YOU A DAY AGO?

I wouldn't call it obvious, because it has been fucking months, and expecting you to remember something like that is god damn crazy.

it would have been quite obvious what would happen.

We knew neither of these things, and even had some small cause to suspect that the first was false. (I do not recall any explosions in that scene with the pool of darkness where we used our fire on it.)

edit: Unless being host to Horse counts for the second, then that part, at least, is obvious, but I don't get the impression it does.

1. You wouldn't have to know that, it's chemistry. They're obvious opposites. No, you're right, they're not normally considered chemicals, but their reaction in explosions is even common in normal media. It's just normal. (Also, none of the black stuff really had enough size and power to explode when hit by the flames. The larger portions weren't hit.)

2. I don't recall giving you a reason to think you weren't suffering a darkness overdose, given Icky actually told you.
Now don't get me wrong, when she told you was a LONG time ago. Only a few posts, but technically months ago. So I could give you that one, but I mean you really should have reread at-least some of the recent updates. Hell I've reread all of them in the past couple days just to re-familiarize myself. Some of them twice.

3. It's like ten feet, give or take a few. More details aren't really privy to you though, as Aeternam has spent zero time looking at them given she's not an idiot, and she's focused on the horde. Which if she was counting she'd realize is only like fifteen, but it's still technically a horde.

As an extra note on 1 and 2, The Clown made the vote, and he's aware my character in the DNA verse uses that "chemical" reaction to fight other demons. So I mean, it's not like I went out of my way to blindside you XD

Which would have been all well and good if we were doing, y'know, chemistry.

Randomly assuming that principles from one field are koscher even when stripped of their original meaning and imperfectly applied to another field is not something I am in the habit of doing.

To my knowledge, there was no indication that magic in this setting worked like that.

You know the dimensions are connected because you're aware this is an offshoot mirrored reverse mirrorverse clone, and DNA is mirrorverse.
I'd expect connecting cross dimensional laws of reality to be relatively simple for one of your capabilities. Am I assessing your capabilities wrong?

And I'd agree with you if the rules for your mirror-verse wasn't so damn convoluted. You've established many times that the rules between each are different, where in one gravity flows backwards, and in another color is nonexistant, and yet another that's ruled entirely by talking fucking bears, so the line between where a rule applies and where it doesn't get's a little fucking thin.

I didn't say you set it up on purpose because you KNEW it would happen. I simply said it is within the realm of possibility for you to have made the conclusion, so it isn't like I went out of my way to blind side you.
Don't get so worked out, it's too cute for me, I can't handle it.
 
Right, so bitter recriminations and spurious assertions of obviousness aside, we need a plan.


We can likely deal with those around us, but Miyumi is up there with a horde at a chokepoint and a boss monster that is only wounded.

Going to ground might have been an option if we had a means of contacting Miyumi and instructing her to follow suit, but that seems not to be the case.

@Sendicard, how are the enemies arranged around us?

that basically leaves getting up there, whih seems to mean climbing or fighting up the stairwell.

Thoughts?

I meant, are they evenly distributed, or more concentrated in some areas?
 
Streetside (to your right) has the highest ratio, there are only a few in front of you, a bunch to the other streetside (to your left)

What exactly is in front of us? A park, office building, a fucking hot dog stand etc. ?

Because if there's a hotdog stand I vote we just spend our deathly days pursuing our true passion of being a hot dog entrepreneur.

    It'd had been a long journey together, they'd had a lot of crazy adventures, started a war, fought for what they believed in. But they'd paid for it, every moment of happiness they'd built had come at a price. Their relationship was like that straight from the beginning, a single smile was paid for a hundred times.

    And so it didn't surprise her when she found herself being shaken awake by a clone of herself. Blonde hair, and her black winged insignia sown into a white cloak.

    No, it didn't surprise her, but it did hurt. It hurt more than she could possibly describe given a thousand days and a thousand nights.

    "No, you can't!" She screamed without even giving a moment, rushing up and grabbing her clone by the shoulders, staring into her obsidian eyes, eyes like mirrors. No, she couldn't let this happen!

    "I'm sorry." Was all the clone said, was all she said before she broke her grip and walked to the door of the cabin, a sense of finality. But no, she wouldn't have that, couldn't.

    "You'll die, they'll kill you!" She rushed again, only to be stopped by a hand on her chest and a deep kiss invading her lips.

    "Some things," She said, tear filled obsidian orbs staring into her green eyes as their faces parted, the only trait her love had refused to copy no matter what. And it was then, that she knew, absolutely knew, that there was no stopping her. As the obsidian orbs in front of her turned green as the first tear dropped. "are worth dying for."

    "But, why?" She asked, her own tears starting to fall, this was it wasn't it? All they'd work for was gone. And she was going to lose her, really lose her. "The Deaths have taken everything from us, and for what, a silly war?" Her voice cracking every other word.

    "I won't let them!" Her clone shouts. "Not you, they won't take you!" Green eyes glowing as if on fire, the water only making the glow more beautiful. "Wait until you hear the first explosion, and then run."

    "But-"

    "No buts! Run!" And then she walked through the door.

    She knew, as the explosions shook the ground and she took off running, that it was over. She'd finally lost everything.
