Ah, but what does it mean to be a goody-two-shoes? Just personally self-righteous, with no responsibility, consequences be damned? I'll quote myself from above:
Besides, "the Grim and the Grit" (like a Total War DLC. But who is the grim and who is the grit?) of cult-hunting in the Empire requires us to be creative, in order to scrape by and accomplish the impossible. Like Harry Dresden the wizard detective, if anyone has read Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. A Dresden that is so personally self-righteous that he does not kill Justin DuMourne is a dead Dresden, and so many bad things would follow from that.
Why make Markus undertake burden of personal corruption and potential damnation of the soul for a Graf who doesn't give a shit and a High Priest who only cares about his own ass? Maybe once the entire town's population turns into blue horrors will they decide to do something.
Besides. he's a templar. Dying pure seems like the appropriate thing, given we decided to charge into an actual daemon. The towns people will just have to make do with Edel and the Graf's decisions.
