The Enemy Within (WHF Witch Hunter Quest)

Ah, but what does it mean to be a goody-two-shoes? Just personally self-righteous, with no responsibility, consequences be damned? I'll quote myself from above:

Besides, "the Grim and the Grit" (like a Total War DLC. But who is the grim and who is the grit?) of cult-hunting in the Empire requires us to be creative, in order to scrape by and accomplish the impossible. Like Harry Dresden the wizard detective, if anyone has read Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. A Dresden that is so personally self-righteous that he does not kill Justin DuMourne is a dead Dresden, and so many bad things would follow from that.

Why make Markus undertake burden of personal corruption and potential damnation of the soul for a Graf who doesn't give a shit and a High Priest who only cares about his own ass? Maybe once the entire town's population turns into blue horrors will they decide to do something.

Besides. he's a templar. Dying pure seems like the appropriate thing, given we decided to charge into an actual daemon. The towns people will just have to make do with Edel and the Graf's decisions.

True, it would be difficult for him to come out as a hero in all of this.
The rest of the discussion kinda makes the point for me: risky deals with Darkness would not be made for the sake of the Graf that does not care, or the High Priest corrupted by money.
They would be made for the sake of everyone else.

But now it's too late, and it's no use to cry over spilled milk. Let's hope that with our Halfling guide we can pull a Corvo/Emily Kaldwin/Garrett, infiltrate the place and break down the ritual of Chaos.
And if we get spotted, well, violence becomes the default anyway😱:p

I'm pretty sure Edel won't have much of a career left to worry about if the ritual succeeds since he'll likely get his face eaten by daemons along with the rest of the town.

To be fair, I don't think Edel knew the Ordo were actually Chaos Cultists. Of course, that doesn't absolve him of fault since it's his job to guide Sigmar's flock and he failed miserably at that, but far as he could tell, the Witch Hunter known for killing merchants being sent into town was just a political ploy instead of anything serious. It's not like Sigmar's Cult is above such things.

If we get out of here alive though, I'm all for reporting him to our superiors and hoping he gets booted out unceremoniously for failing in his duties and actively obstructing a Templar's work which almost resulted in the doom of an entire town.

> implying the Cult of Tzeentch doesn't headhunt for self interested arrogant dipshits "What are consequences can you eat them?"
> implying implications

Yeah, once we get back home, the Cult is going to be very happy to hear 'So a priest of Sigmar basically got bought and nearly let a Chaos ritual kick off'.

So happy in fact, they'll send a colleague or two of his, from the Order of the Flame, to have a nice long conversation with him.

If the town gets eaten by demons Edel's career prospects go in the sewers. Even if he avoids personal blame preventing that sort of shit is one o his primary responsibilities

Never underestimate a careerist with connection's ability to weasel out of trouble. He could deflect all of the blame onto and steal all the credit from the dead in that kind of scenario, perhaps taking credit for summoning us to town and our investigations almost stopping the plot while blaming the other town authorities for hindering him.

I like how Maugan said that Eden, Teugen and Goetrin will be in real trouble when the smoke clears after we succeed. Yet we're still going on about how they'll be fine and escape all blame.

Even if it Eden has political support in the Cult (when it is all but said that most of his ties are to the upper classes in the town itself). Markus seems to be a favored protege of a Witch Hunter General, and unlike in the original adventure path Volkmar is actually GT already. You really think Volkmar of all people is going to stand for this clownshow Edel has been running when he gets the report passed up the chain?

And if we don't succceed? Big chance everyone is dead, so not like that outcome matters.

While I don't doubt a politician's ability to redirect blame, his ability to take credit relies on Markus not giving a report on who actually summoned him. It be his words against a Templar Witch Hunter's. Not saying Edel couldn't come up relatively unscathed, but it would not be easy.

This is the possible future where the ritual works, Markus is unlikely to survive
[x] Die Pure
Markus will take no dark deals of any kind, and allow the dice to fall as they may.
VOtes over, die pure and sneak in won

Well you will perhaps be delighted to know that I have begun rolling out the upcoming combat and so far everyone is fucking up spectacularly. Regular fucking clown show in here.
