Internal Events:
Valyria has fallen and its sins reduced to ash by the gods command. However with the Fall of Valyria, it is little wonder that talk within the Orosi League has turned towards it's future now that it's age old foe has been defeated and the League left triumphant. Spurred on, some say, by Mantarys, a faction of powerful Senators from the Northern League led by Jaekar of Viserion, a renowned orator and lawyer, have called upon the League to disband now that it's purpose has been served. Arguing that it was for Valyria alone that the League existed and that it's continuation only invited subordination to one central power, Oros being implied to be this power though none said it outright, these Senators have proven to have a powerful sway in the north where many of the cities have chafed beneath the League's auspices. For the time being, they have condoned acts of violence against the League and encouraged peaceful dialogue but few in Oros itself believe that such noble words will hold if the League chooses to hold together despite the outcry of it's member states.

Having just destroyed the sinners in Valyria I hear the mutterings of disbandment of the League out of fear of Oros accumulating central power and simply becoming another Valyria. If I may make a suggestion, perhaps a vote in the senate to disband the league should be held. Thus it will be the will of the Gods alone to decide if the league falls. I understand some fear that Jaekar of Viserion is simply a puppet of Mantarys, thus what I also suggest that perhaps instead of the league is a defense pact between all the former cities so should Mantarys attempt to annex the cities in the north, thus revealing their greed to the gods and the world, we could still unite to defend the northern cities. Regardless I am a loyal servant of the senate and the gods, what ever decision you make, I shall follow.

House Arryn Internal Event
King Osric calls off future attempts to attack Braavos across the Narrow Sea, and signals his intention to the nobility of the Vale that the Kingdom shall march in force against the enemies of House Bracken before the year is out (in an attempt to salvage the Arryn's PR as well as reunite the Vale and maximize its military power for the campaign to come).

In the meantime, Lord Royce is quietly ordered to return to the Bloody Gate with the troops he prematurely brought into the Riverlands. If he does so, all will be forgiven and he will be allowed to participate in the campaign to come. @Sidheach

(Backdated to Turn One) Parties in the Westerlands, Dragontaming, and Massey's Hook - Turn One
Mod Report
Parties in the Rock

Attendees of the Lannister Winter Bash continue to stand by their belief in the appearance of a fiddle playing skeleton who, after lamenting his lack of skill with the xylophone (skill which might have saved him on buying an instrument), spent the entire evening playing thematically appropriate music during awkward, tense, and romantic moments.

---
Driven by the growing influence of the Lords Regent in the Westerlands, there has been a noted growth in the number of feasts, social gatherings, and parties in the Westerlands as Queen Aelinor Reyne struggles to wrest influence away from the Lords Regent and towards the Crown. Such efforts have neither gone unnoticed or unmatched, however, with Lord Tywin Lannister, the Lord of Lannisport, and his compatriots making it a point to match the Queen Mother's overtures, notably maintaining the ear of the Archsepton of Lannisport, a corpulent fellow with vast estates in the countryside, whose influence has often proven key to settling disputes within the Rock. It has, however, served to highlight the leading members of the Lion's Men with Lord Forley Burdyck, of Burdyck Keep, finding himself the Queen Mother's champion with the grizzled veteran, and ennobled peasant to boot, proving one of the King's fiercest defenders in recent days.

On Wings of Flame

The Dragonmont

---
Treading in the footsteps of generations past, two young Targaryens, Aerys and Maekar, have set out for the Dragonmont in order to claim dragons of their own in the same manner as countless Dragonlords before them. Although scholars dispute the claim that the traditional approach was, as is claimed, first employed by the original Dragonlords, that is has been the preferred method of every Dragonlord for over eight hundred years with the tradition having come to be as much a rite of passage as the snow runs of the North or the first hunts of the Dothraki. Clad only in what they could make from a dragon's carcass and having drunk an alcoholic beverage made from fermented goat's milk and dragon's blood known to the Valyrians as Hair Raiser for it's strength, the two would be cast out onto the slopes of the Dragonmont by the Dragon King with a reminder that they were not to return on foot. An exercise in patience as much as daring, for the ground is littered with the bones of those who sought to claim the first dragon that flew by, the two would lay in the ashen earth that covered the slopes of the Dragonmont as they awaited their quarry. Tired and hungry, for no food could be brought nor drink, it would not be for several days before Aerys became the first to claim a dragon, a young one no older than thirteen years of age, and then Maekar shortly afterwards, claiming an older bull around forty years old, by singing old folk songs and making the traditional offerings of blood, their own, and bridles.

Flying back to Dragonstone, their success has since been celebrated with feasting and the giving of gifts, both Aerys and Maekar being given clothing fashioned from dragonhide for when they ride, as few materials keep in warmth so well as dragonhide, as well as spears tipped with Valyrian steel for use astride their steeds.

The Fall of the Hook

Justin "Milk-Eye" Bar Emmon

---
In a largely overlooked campaign, largely due to it's swiftness, the Kingdoms of the Dusklands and Dragonstone would bring an end to Massey's Hook after growing tired of the depredations of it's many pirate denizens. Luring the Bar Emmon fleet into a trap and then following it up with an invasion overland, Massey's Hook has swiftly fallen, many of it's noblemen quickly switching sides when briefed on the size of the enemy armies, though Justin Bar Emmon has tragically escaped capture. Though reports differ on the circumstances, one account claiming that the King of Massey's Hook grew bored halfway through a battle and abandoned his kingdom to it's fate, that the Milk-Eye managed to escape to Essos has been confirmed with several empty ships being found near Tyrosh, the crew having all been blinded in one eye and hung from the mast, which largely fits the infamous pirates prior activities.

With the kingdom having fallen, all that remains is to settle the question of how to divide the place with both the Dusklords and the Valyrians proving to have strong ideas about just where the dividing line should lie.

City of Pentos - 240 AD

The Sea-Bull of Pentos

Name: Pentos
Religion: R'hllorism; Eastern Rite Faith in the north; other religions tolerated
Ruling body: The Council of Magisters

Prince of Pentos: Yollo Ennios
Yollo Ennios is a hedonistic, dimwitted man in his early fifties, who was elected after intensive politicking and lavish bribes made by his family, who hope to use his rule, short as it may very well be, to enrich their family as much as possible. Several of his family members have already been nominated to prestigious positions and the corruption, always an incentive to become Prince, is reaching impressive levels.

Prominent Magisters:

Vaelon Sorrassar
The Sorrassar family is one of the oldest in Pentos, allegedly able to trace their family tree back to the founding of the city itself. They derive a certain amount of pride from their light hair and dark blue, almost purple eyes and have held on to the valyrian customs longer then most. Some speak of Magister Vaelon himself still worshipping the gods of old. In the council, he is an outspoken supporter of Volantis and has repeatedly called for closer ties to the Targeryans of Dragonstone.

Roholys Ennios:
Nephew of the current Prince, Ennios had fallen on hard times before his uncle's election. The Ennios had never been the wealthiest family, but a number of poor business decisions by Roholys' father had almost reduced the family to beggars. After the untimely death of the last Prince, Roholys heavily indebted himself in hopes of buying his uncle the title and has since used his family's new-found prestige and access to the treasury to his best ability. Several of his sons, nephews and cousins now hold official titles and receive a generous stipend from the city.

Narkyros Moparis:
Also called Narkyros the Cheese Lord, the Moparis family rose to their current position due to their large herds of sheeps, goats and cattle. As his family's wealth depends more on the fertile Flatlands than the sea, Narkyros' prime concern in the Council is maintaining a strong army and warding off raiders from the east. He has personal contacts to the Andals and Rhoynar, usually hosting their delegations to Pentos in his manse on the Lepto, the smallest hill of the city.

Syridos Hestaris:
One of the most influential shipowners of Pentos, Syridos Hestaris was a natural choice for admiral of the pentoshi fleet in the war against the Coalition of Silk. As is tradition, Syridos contributed many of his ships to the fleet, often commanded by his sons, brothers, cousins and nephews. When the fortunes of war turned against Pentos, Syridos was not only humiliated by defeat against the combined Silk Fleet, but also suffered the loss of two sons, three cousins, one brother and one nephew. As if this was not enough to break a proud man, many of Syridos' ships were sunk or captured over the course of the war, seriously threatening his trade. Since the war, Syridos is concentrating his fury into rebuilding his fleet and regaining his wealth. But in his heart sits a burning desire to enact vengeance upon the Coalition of Silk.

Gyllesso Paeniros:
The richest man in Pentos and owner of the largest manse in the city. For decades, Gyllesso has been the Council's unofficial ruler, but lately, his power is slipping. Nearing his seventy-fifth birth day, his body has begun to fail him and with no sons or living relatives, many wonder what will become of his great fortune after his death. Dozens of young men vie for Gyllesso's favour, hoping to be adopted as heir by the old man, while Roholys Ennios works to ensure that Gyllesso's possession will fall to the city upon his death.

The Prince's Palace:
Build on the northern most hill, the Dragon, the palace sits at the edge of the city and is part of the the city walls. Overlooking the port, the palace is both a central part of the city's defense and the seat of Pentos' government. Here, the Prince resides and the Council meets.

City of Towers:
Pentos is famous for its many square, brick towers rising high above the city. Build adjacent to the homes of merchant families and magisters, they are a result of the pentoshi topography and economy: built on the shallow shores of the Bay of Pentos, the city rises only a few dozen feet above sea level at its center. The Five Coins, the only hills within the city walls are dominated by the Prince's Palace and the estates of the richest of magisters. This allowed those select few to spot arriving merchant ships hours earlier then their less-fortunate competition, granting them a distinct advantage in trade: Captains use flags to signal their employers the amount and type of goods they bring, allowing the shrewd merchants to adjust prices and buy and sell goods that would drastically change in value once the new goods were brought to the shore. Not to be forced out of business by the richest five magistrates and unable to afford a house on the Five Coins, merchants began to build high towers into their houses, allowing them, too, to view the bay and communicate with their ships at sea.
Today, every family of renown or aspiring to become one owns at least one such brick tower, even those not directly involved in the maritime trade. More than sixty towers give Pentos its unique appearance. On days holy to R'hllor, fires are lit atop the towers, bathing the city below in the light of holy fire.

Temple of the Light that leaves no Shadow:
The large Red Temple of Pentos sits between the harbour an the market. Build from red marble and tiled with bronze plates, the temple is the largest place of worship in Pentos. At the heart of the large prayer room, richly decorated with mosaics, bronze braziers and red, white and yellow silk banners, lies the atar. This perfectly square room houses the Holy Flame and is decorated with mirrors made from the finest myrish glass in such a way, that the flame's reflections light every spot, so that no shadow may be cast in the atar even when the fire is tended to by the red priests.

The Forys:
The central market of Pentos is where goods from the pentoshi hinterlands and greater Essos and those brought in by ship from the North, South and West are exchanged. Pentoshi cheese and linen, myrish glass and lace, metal goods from Qohor and Norvos and rhyonan herbs, westerosi wool, dornish oranges and slaves from across the known world are traded in one of the largest market places in western Essos. This is the major trading place for the northern Rhoynar and southern Andals. The most prestigious market stalls can be found under the roofs of the market hall, a tall stone building, easily accessible by foot and cart through its high arches. Here, only the most valuable of goods can be found: gems, jewellery, spices, perfumes and the finest silk. The air is heavy with expensive smells and the cool air and more subdued voice of the merchants provide a short respite from the loud haggling and the overwhelming smells of fish, cheese and cattel that dominates the rest of the Forys.

Current Event:
  • News about the abortive invasion of Braavos by House Arryn has the Magisters worried about further westerosi attempts to gain influence in northern Essos and have reinforced the city's desire to bring the current war in Andalos to a favourable conclusion. Andalos is seen as a natural region of interest for the city and the valemen's ambitions and the mutiny it caused are seen as a looming threat that could undermine Pentos' influence in the North even more than King Bleda's own desires.
Economy: Good

Despite the war in the north, trade is thriving. The rivalry with Myr, Tyrosh and Lys is hurting business somewhat, but by far not as much as war with them did. People come from far and wide to trade the Forys of Pentos and pentoshi trade ships prowl the seas. However, captains and merchants alike follow news about the recent upsurge in braavosi piracy and the tales of Milk-Eye Massey with worry.

On the army and navy of Pentos

Alliances, Agreements, Pacts and Trade:

  • Pentos attracts trade from all over the world and pentoshi merchants travel north, south, east and west. Only trade with Myr, Tyrosh and Lys is currently limited.
  • On good terms with the small andal kingdoms to the north, with Goyan Drohe to the east and Volantis in the far south.
Problems:
  • The recent defeat at the hands of the Coalition of Silk has hurt the Pentoshi self-esteem harder than the pentoshi treasury.
  • The Andal war continues into it's second year, tying up a large number of troops and drawing the city's attention away from other brewing crisis in Essos.
  • The misfortune of the Vale's naval adventure has strengthened the braavosi pirates, never a good thing for Pentos.
  • The current Prince is more corrupt than the Magisters are used to or comfortable with.
  • Build on slave labor like the other city states of Essos, Pentoshi always live under the threat of a slave revolt, uncommon as such an event is.

We desire stability along our borders and we may be willing to support you if you aid us in this goal and eliminate your rival warlords.

We would like to send observers and scholars to catalog the historic moment of it all. We are interested in gathering texts and documenting the city before it is destroyed. One must learn about heathens if one is to prevent it from rising again do you not agree? We only ask that we allowed to transport some materials back with our party to Anogaria. Given that your league is in control of the city we thought it prudent to ask you as to your intentions first before sending any party to the city.

Texts of blood magic and that ilk. Those are symbols of sins to the gods and must burn in the pyres with the dragonlords.

Is there any possibility we may copy such texts and let you destroy the originals? We are attempting to catalog the history of Valyria, including its downfall at the hands of the Orosi League. Surely the original items are what contain the affront to the gods given their usage? To be reserved for the highest scholars as a part of the great tale of how such magic can be the folly that leads a people to greater sin should not be a great blasphemy?

Are there any restrictions on how much our party may return home with?

We are concerned about the growing power of the Orosi League now that Valyria has fallen. They may worry that other states represent a continuation of the Valyrian legacy and may launch campaigns against Volantis in the future.
