Surviving the apocalypse Quest (mutants, zombies and more)

[X]Open Shoe/boot crate.
[X]Make fish traps(only need to be checked once a day)(if pick choose 1 of the following)
-[X]Netting(-1 action)
[XX]Have Cedric try to decode part of the manifesto(can be taken multiple times)

I'm not sure what to do for the plants.

Um, why? The rest of your picks are perfectly sensible choices, but hops are pretty useless unless you want to make beer, which I suppose you might want to, but then you should grow barley too...

@prince84 When you say corn, I assume you mean maize? Mostly cause you have a category later on called grains, which does not include it... What time of year is it anyway?

Witch seed do you sprout pick up to 5 seed types from the farming knowledgepost:
[X] Micro greens
[X] Radishes
[X] Green peas
[X] Corn harvest
[X] Onion (Ailsa Craig)

Listed from shortest to longest growth-period. These are all things you can eat raw, they're also mostly high in carbs and easy to make something with. Micro greens and radishes will make a good and early salad staple, then well get green peas a month later, and maize a month after that again and then onion. Maize is extremely versatile, onions too, They take some time to grow, but store and travel well, generally.

Pick 4 afternoon action.
[X]Have Cedric try to decode part of the manifesto(can be taken multiple times)
[X] Write in: Have Cedric try to teach one of the new people (not teens) to decode manifestos.
[X]Open Shoe/boot crate.

-[X]Wire mesh fencing(-1 action)

So, can we maybe start to make silent (electrical) alarms now we have some electrical equipment? I think we want to raid the ambulance station and the library in the mornings when we often have enough actions to them and other stuff. And the two gas stations can be raided when we have less time to spare. Like evenings. We want to get the ambulance station as soon as possible and the library pretty soon.

Thanks for catching that it should have been maize(corn) fixed it.
It is mid summer.

I will add the option tomorrow as it take time to plan something like that.

Hm, then we might want to avoid planting onion and anything that will take more than 80-90-ish days. Unless we feel confident that there wont be any significant cold snaps in September to early October. I dunno. Onions are pretty useful and versatile.

Regarding electric alarms, we got David thinking about it back here, so hopefully that will be of help.

What your farming/growing
What your farming/growing in units.

Sprouting needs replanting after day 14 and before day 21
1 Radishes = day 29
1 Green peas = day 62
1 Maize harvest = day 77
1 Onion (Ailsa Craig) = day 97

No replanting needed
1 Micro greens = harvest starts day 21

Plan Eri won.

Day 7 Afternoon
Day 7 Afternoon

This morning was fairly fruitful but your group still has much that needs to be done. The weather has other ideas this afternoon after a perfectly pleasant morning it began to down pour so hard you can barely see beyond you arm length slowing all outdoor work to a crawl. David has drifted over to the electrical parts several time this afternoon and seems to be looking for something.

Improvements:

With the trays filled and place where they will get enough light you begin to plant the seeds. Being midsummer you decide to choose fairly fast growing crops. Hopefully they will be harvested before the winter frost have a chance to kill them. You divide the trays into five groups and call the amount of seeds you can sprout in each group a unit so everyone has an idea what you are talking about when you give an order.
You are now planting the following
1 unit Radishes = day 29
1 unit Green peas = day 62
1 unit Maize harvest = day 77
1 unit Onion (Ailsa Craig) = day 97
You also plant 1 unit of mixed Micro greens with will begin to supplement you food beginning at day 21.

Setting up the pools seems to be hitting one delay after another. This time you had to stop work during the worst of the down pour because you couldn't see what you were doing. You are sure you will be able to finish it today but you now have no chance at filling them until tomorrow. instead those working on the pools help out with making the fish traps.

General Actions:

You open the shoe crate to find it is full of runners and flip flops. While not a stunning find you can now replace shoes that are damaged or lost.(no penalty for lost footwear)

Cedric has decided he has had enough of going through the manifests along and begins to try and train one of the new people to help him. While he did not have great success Cedric now has someone who can double check and review anything he finds.(Cedric's apprentice +4 to decoding manifests)
This help has led them to uncover a small crate of hunting supplies. These include:
Hand cranked lanterns
Hand cranked radios
Hunting and skinning knives
and lots rope and twine.

With the extra help from the people that had been setting up the pools the progress on making fish traps goes extremely well. They manage to complete a full 9 wire traps and get them set as the rain begins to die down at the end of the afternoon.(Gained 9 wire traps) This should help stretch out your food supplies thought fish does not keep well and you might lose power to the fridge at any time. Maybe you could figure some thing out.

Pick 3
[no]Build better lock/barricade on the shorting yard gate(takes two pick)(bard choice)
[ ]Study the gardening manuals again

[ ]Have Cedric try to decode part of the manifesto(can be taken multiple times)
[ ]Continue to explore the surrounding area
[ ]Try to design a fish smoker dryer
[ ]Try to open a random crate/container
[ ]Finish exploring the next building's yard pile(the piles)

[X]Raid Gas station(2 actions)
[X]Try to design a fish smoker dryer

I'm thinking: if the designing doesn't go well, there's a pretty decent chance of finding salt or even a freezer that could be appropriated at the gas station. Also lots of other useful stuff, since most gas stations I know also double as mini-convenience-stores. (We could probably use some extra toilet paper for one.) If nothing else there should be gas. It's sort of risky, but we have to try out raiding something at some point and a gas station isn't terribly daunting.

I'd rather not try raiding while it is raining out, at night, with that strange beast we saw hanging around a few nights ago.

Also, remember how the new arrivals said they were stalked by some kind of murderous creature before meeting up with us. The one they said only comes out at night.

Oh, it's still raining? For some reason I thought it let up. My mistake. Need to work on my reading comprehension apparently. :) (It is midsummer though, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we would've probably been back before nightfall.)

In that case, though.

We may also want to think about making an indoor planting area. Perhaps in a pool? Or we could build some self-watering planters? We have woodworking tools now, right? Put them where they will get the most light and when we're replanting we should plant the onions there. Maybe the corn too? Just to be on the safe side so we won't lose them if there's an early frostnight.

They are not larger but you have a large Number of them. Also until you find a was to move fully loaded shipping containers you do not have room for the pool.

I thought we had room, since you gave us the option of setting it up inside earlier?
Anyway, how big are the pots and planters we have in large numbers? More than 12 inches deep? Or wide for that matter? Because unless they are, we might want something deeper. At least for the Corn. The onions probably won't need more than ten inches depth.

You had the option of setting up the pots both inside and outside. The write in for pools said set them up inside as well if possible, it is not possible. You will use the right pots for each plant.

As for pot size you have many. Some are long and shallow, others are two to three feet high and two feet across and every thing in between. So you can grow everything inside but you only have enough pots to grow 4 units inside at a time. Micro greens do not count they use so little space you are growing them in nooks and crannies.

Hm, then I think we want to grow anything with growth-time more than eight-ish weeks in pots so we can move them inside if it looks like it might become too cold before we can harvest them. So, peas, maize and onions. Then we could pick some more "short" growth-time plants and plant them outside since there will be more room.

Maybe:
Cabbage=50 days(can remove leaves to eat starting at 20 days)

Pole beans (Mascotte Patio Beans) =50 days (grows easily in pots)

Beet roots (leaves also edible on harvest) (Boro) =50 day

Tomato (Alicante) = 55 days

Or read some more to find some that have even shorter growth-times. Lettuce or carrots maybe? By the way. This is totally something well have to do.
