Summoner's Rise (Pokemon/Naruto)

"Children of Arceus that will bring forth peace and hope," Saya said, repeating the words of her mother.

"I see ..." Itachi said. Saya huffed.

"No, you don't. Look, Arceus is the god of all pokemon. He created well, not our universe, but the one where all pokemon come from, where my summons come from." Saya explained with the fervent urge of a believer. Sasuke gave her a look of disbelief.

"That's crazy," he said, earning him a glare from Saya. "There's no such thing as aliens."

"Sasuke," Itachi chided. "You should be open minded."

Saya made a rude noise. "I bet you don't believe me either."

"You lack proof," Itachi reminded her. "But Darkrai is not a normal creature, I admit."

"Anyways," Saya said. "Do you need anything else from me?"

"No, you can go now Sayaka," Itachi said, giving her leave which she gladly took. She gave a sigh of relief as an ANBU escorted her out. Darkrai followed her and she turned to look at him, ignoring all the looks she was getting on the street.

"We really need to do something about the lack of pokeball," she muttered.

[Saya, I apologize, but I must depart.]

"What? What do you mean?"

[There are many humans here with nightmares they must face. Fear, Regret, Guilt ... There are truths that must open in their hearts.] Darkrai explained. [And I fear I will hold you back if I stay.]

"Darkrai ..." Saya said quietly.

[Fear not, Saya.] He pulled out a black tattered cloth from nowhere and gave it to her. [Just simply ask for help while clutching this and I shall come.]

The next morning, Saya and Shikamaru found themselves in front of the Godaime.

"Last night, Uchiha Sasuke left the village and we're pretty sure he's heading to the Sound village," Lady Tsunade said. Saya blinked.

"What?! Why?!" He asked, shocked.

"We think Orochimaru has him convinced he can be stronger under his tutelage," Tsunade explained. "Saya, Shikamaru, I'm assigning you your first mission."

"Bring back Sasuke, right?" Shikamaru replied, furrowing his brow.

"Yes, but this mission needs immediate action and odds are, there's going to be trouble from Orochimaru's henchmen," Tsunade explained. "You two distinguished yourselves for your leadership and intelligence during the chuunin exams, so you'll be the leaders on point for this mission."

Shikamaru frowned. "Are there no chuunin or jounin available for this?"

"No. Everyone's doing missions, you should know with your father ..." Tsunade explained. "Within the next half hour, gather as much genin as you deem necessary for the mission and leave the village. Take Naruto, of course."

Saya nodded smartly as she and Shikamaru left. Shikamaru sighed, but turned towards her as they strided out.

"Sayaka, we can do this two ways. A single five man team or two four man teams, led by me and you respectively. We're not taking your bird by the way." Shikamaru explained.

"What, why?" Saya asked, surprised.

"It's a giant target in the sky, very noticeable, and they might have something prepared for it. Discretion will help us more," Shikamaru pointed out.

"We should go with the two four man teams," Saya decided. "I can gather up any genin you need with my clone jutsu and we don't know how strong the enemy is. Plus leadership will be easier to handle this way if we have our own squad cells."

"Alright," Shikmaru agreed with a nod. "Who are you thinking for your team?"

"I'll take Karin, Hinata, and Naruto," Saya decided.

"Alright, I'll take Kiba, Neji, and Chouji," Shikamaru decided. Saya sent out her clones and they promptly brought back the aforementioned people. After giving them a quick debrief, they split up and Shikamaru's team took point with Saya's team following behind. She was keenly aware this was a test of her loyalty to Konoha, and was determined not to fail.

"Alright, Karin take the lead, Naruto stay behind me, Hinata stay behind Naruto and keep an eye out," Saya said sharply. Hinata was probably the weakest link of their team, in her opinion, but her byakugan was too valuable to not have.

"Yes!" Hinata said, looking determined if slightly nervous. They ran through the forest for a while before finding an area filled with traps. Neji and Hinata found all the traps and Shikamaru knocked out a strategy for them. Saya's team would hold back while Shikamaru's team did the strike. It all fell apart as Shikamaru's team was found and quickly trapped. Saya held back Naruto from attacking, who looked furious at it.

"Wait until they leave, and then we'll strike," Saya advised. They left and she sent Naruto to strike at the back of the dome with his new technique and Karin sent her chakra chains to rip the large man from the dome. Naruto opened the dome and they piled out.

"Eight man team huh? Konoha sure loves to sent children to die ..." The man said, after absorbing the chakra chains from Karin who looked disturbed.

"He absorbs chakra, be careful!" Shikamaru barked out. The man then threw a house sized rock at them and Chouji broke it with his baika technique.

"Me and Naruto will take him!" Shikamaru started to bark out, but Saya jumped to his side, furious.

"You're squad leader, you don't just leave it to handle one idiot!" Saya reprimanded.

"Girl's right, you're a real nitwit, must make it hard for his subordinates ..." The enemy ninja insulted.

"I'll take him!" Chouji yelled, clenching his fists. He pulled out a bag of soldier pills. "You guys take these and move on."

Shikamaru looked shocked, before smiling. "Catch up to us, okay Chouji?"

Saya licked her lips as she released Haunter. "Haunter, help Chouji, okay?"

Haunter nodded and giggled as he melted in the ground.

They immediately left them, taking the pills on the run. With Hinata and Neji, they noted a lack of traps and arrogance on the part of the kidnappers. Shikamaru transformed into the enemy shinobi and entered their group. But the henge failed as they realized he was an imposter and attacked Shikamaru. They surged upon him, but found that his chakra web was difficult to fight against unless you had the gentle fist.

"Go, I'll take him," Neji said, after snapping the shinobi's web strands from Karin. Hinata appeared at his side as well, already in her gentle fist form.

"We'll take him together," Hinata said, resolutely.

"Lady Hinata ..."

"Don't you dare tell me to leave," Hinata said, sharply.

Neji smiled. "I wouldn't dare."

So they continued on, four less than it was. Saya had concerns about them, but she pushed them away to focus on the mission. They cornered the last two shinobi with their group and managed to grab the coffin. However, a trap Kiba set with Akamaru went wrong and Kiba went back to save his dog. Kiba, Akamaru and the strange shinobi fell into the cavern. Saya released Fearow instantly.

"Follow Kiba and help him!" She ordered. Fearow fearlessly flew into the gorge and they were left with just the female sound nin.

Or so they thought. They were kicked away from the coffin. Karin, Saya, Shikamaru, and Naruto flew back hitting trees.

"Kimimaro!" The female sound nin exclaimed, sounding fearful and surprised.

"Tayuya, I will let you live, so take care of these pests," he said, tonelessly. He picked up the coffin and left in a blur.

"Saya, Naruto, go take on that guy, Karin and I can take care of this one ..." Shikamaru said. They ran past Tayuya as Shikamaru and Karin engaged the female sound nin.

Saya noticed Naruto's face growing increasingly feral and worried about his control.

Saya wrapped Kimimaru with a genjutsu as soon as the Naruto clones charged and released Honedge. It was one that would make him disorientated and feel as if 100 times gravity was pushing down at him. The effect was immediate as he slowed down enough for a bunch of clones to dogpile him and land hard blows. He threw them all off with great effort and stared at Saya through the crowd venomously.

He started making his way slowly through the crowd of Narutos towards her. She kept moving, trying to place the greatest amount of Narutos between her and Kimimaru, but he then erupted into bones and started slicing through the Narutos at a renewed speed! Honedge deflected his attack and Saya changed the genjutsu so he'd be restrained, completely covered in cement. His seal started leaking however and he broke the genjutsu with sheer strength! Sasuke then came out of the barrier coffin looking strange and ran off. Kimimaro renewed his assault despite Saya trying to reapply the genjutsus that he was breaking by using his seal. Fortunately, Lee and Tenten suddenly burst onto the scene.

"Can't believe you guys left us behind!" Tenten complained, pulling out a giant hammer.

"The springtime of Konoha blooms again!" Lee shouted. Naruto and Saya looked at each other and ran forward after Sasuke. However, they encountered something strange, something unbelievable ...

"Looks like Orochimaru's desired host body is in perfect condition," Saya's brother, Sora, said, as he looked over Sasuke. His short blue hair fluttered in the wind and his red eyes gleamed with interest. "And that the delivery people are seriously sloppy, tsk tsk."

"Big brother?" Saya said, eyes wide.

"This guy is your brother?!" Naruto asked, incredulous.

He looked over at them, and smirked. Sasuke disappeared and Naruto surged forward, but Saya put a shaking hand on his chest.

"Saya-chan! They sure didn't try if they only dyed your hair," Sora mocked. "I'm afraid this is the end of the road though. Even though I'm in a very delicate phase of my science, Kabuto ordered me to make sure Sasuke makes it to Oto."

"Sora, I ... " Saya had all these words in her throat that she couldn't say.

"Honestly, having a family reunion with a person watching is kind of a drag. C'mon short stuff, go ahead. Pinky promise I won't hurt you." Sora jerked a thumb towards Sasuke and Naruto took a step, but paused, looking at Saya's sallow face concerned.

"Go Naruto." Saya managed to say. Naruto dashed forward as he chased after Sasuke.

Then it was her and Sora.

"Ah, the golden child. The one who was promised. The one who will bring salvation." Sora said, making a face as if the words were foul on his tongue. "What a bunch of shit."

"Sora, it's not my fault the scroll didn't choose you," Saya said quietly.

"I know. It's mother's fault for discarding me after trying to build me into the perfect heir. It's mother's fault for failing." Sora made a humming sound. "You know, this just isn't a family reunion without mother. Let me get her out."

Pulling out a scroll, he unsealed their mother's head from it. Saya screamed. He plopped the head on a nearby rock and grinned.

"What have you done, Sora?!" Saya screamed, off balance.

"I killed her, duh. You've always been so fucking stupid Saya." Sora said, looking down at her. "You were just the mediocre spare and Mother didn't even cultivate you. But you were the one the scroll choose. You."

He started walking towards her. "Your friends shouldn't have left you alone with a jonin. I'm looking forward to getting that scroll and finding out what makes you so special, Saya. Is it your heart? Is it your brain? Is it your kidneys?"

He pulled out senbon from his sleeve and from the gleam, she could tell they were poisoned.

Saya pulled out the cloth that Darkrai gave her and whispered, "Help."

Darkrai erupted from it and faced Sora who stiffened. To Saya's shock, Sora then pulled out a pokeball himself. It was old, weathered, and scratched up.

"Guess I have to reveal my trump card a little early!" He said, releasing a Metagross. Saya gave a small gasp. Darkrai eyed the Metagross with trepidation.

[Metagross of Steven Stone ...] Darkrai said.

[No questions. No answers.] The Metagross said, before unleashing a hyper beam as thick as a Konoha tree. Darkrai dodged and the battle began. But Saya couldn't focus on it, because Sora had jumped towards her and she was running. He body flickered in front of her and threw senbon. Honedge appeared and smacked them away, in turn causing Sora to pull out his own sword and start smashing on Honedge furiously. His bladework was far superior and he threw senbon in between clashes with Honedge. Saya managed to dodge most of them, but one hit her leg and she immediately couldn't use it anymore, the poison paralyzing her muscles. He unleashed a powerful fire jutsu on Honedge and Honedge screeched, wrenching himself away from the flames. Honedge clattered to the floor, shivering in pain. She applied a stone genjutsu on Sora, but he broke it with a single hand kai.

"Saya, please stop with the tricks. Come give your big brother a hug!" He yelled, pulling out more senbon. She made earth clones to delay him and dragged herself with the dead leg towards the battle with Kimimaru and the others. Saya needed help. Arceus please, someone help her. Sora strolled up to her, humming an old nursery rhyme to himself.

Saya gritted her teeth and waited until Sora is right next to her before snapping out four explosive tags and overloading them next to them. Sora yelled as the explosives consumed them both and all became black.

Saya woke up in the Konoha General Hospital, wrapped in bandages like a mummy. Numbly, she looked down and saw that she had no left leg anymore. Below the knee, everything was gone.

Her career was over. Her hopes were gone. She wouldn't be able to wall walk or water walk, basic things that shinobi needed to be able to do.

Was this what she subjected Ganjobu to? Pure regret and despair filled her.

It was this moment a medic walked in and looked suprised. "Miss Tsuchi! You're awake!"

She rushed out and in a few minutes, came back with the Hokage and her assistant Shizune with Karin and Sakura trailng her. Hokage sat next to her and eyed her.

"You're a real idiot you know that?" she said, bluntly. "Who the fuck overloads four tags next to them?"

"Lady Tsunade!" Shizune chided. "She's injured!"

"She needs to hear her mistakes or she'll repeat them," Tsunade said sharply. "She's lucky that her stunt didn't kill her. As it is, most of her skin's permanently fucked and her leg is gone."

"She still has options!" Shizune insisted. Tsunade shook her head.

"Don't give her false hope, Shizune. It's either a surgery that'll probably kill her or a prosthetic that'll pain her for the rest of her life," Tsunade said sharply.

Shizune turned to Saya, looking grim. "Lady Tsunade is ... correct. You don't have enough hair to replace your leg as it wasn't that long in the first place and the explosion burned most of it off. Your body fat is low due to your training, which would normally be good but that means we might have to take from your muscles to replace your leg. As it is, the surgery could possibly kill you if we take too much material for it. You'll have a sixty percent chance of surviving, even if Lady Tsunade is the one performing it."

"The safer option is a prosthetic made with your chakra sword. It won't be as good as your real leg and the connection period will be a real bitch, but you'll still be able to perform wall climbing and water walking. Over time, I think we can refine and improve it, but it'll always be a weak point for you."

Saya stared at them. The Hokage sighed and stood up. "You don't have to give an answer right now. We'll give you a week to give us an answer."

Karin rushed to her side and hugged her. Sakura tentatively approached, but Karin grabbbed her and pulled her into the hug.

But all Saya did was sob into her shoulder and feel guilt.

What was wrong with her to have not supported Ganjobu during this moment?

People kept coming to drop gifts off for Saya or yell at her in Han's case. He was mad that he wasn't there, he was mad that Saya had accepted the mission, and he was mad that Saya was going to take another risk on her life by doing the surgery.

"You could take the prosthetic!" Han shouted. Saya didn't say anything and a medic then asked him to leave as he was disturbing the patients.

Why she was doing this was ... complicated. She felt guilty and depressed. She didn't care if she died really at this point.

As she went under, she wondered if she actually wanted to wake up again.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but it was a success," Tsunade said, looking tired.

"Oh," Saya said, staring at her new leg. She wiggled a toe.

"You'll have to do physical therapy for two months before you'll be ready for duty," Tsunade explained. She sighed. "There's another thing I wanted to talk to you about. Your brother."

Saya grimaced. A memory of him ruffling her hair as he smiled passed through. Another memory of him screaming at Mother after the scroll rejected him passed through as well.

"We managed to save his life but we put him in a coma for now. The ... Metagross creature is in its ball and hasn't come out, thankfully. We wanted your input, since you know him best. We have two paths here, we can either just execute him or ... 'reform' him using the Yamanakas," Tsunade explained.

Saya felt conflicted. She remembered a kind and caring brother, but was that just a ruse, a face he put on for her until he failed to get what he wanted most? He killed Mother, though ... she was not perfect either.

Saya wanted Mother to play with her like she did with her brother. Aunties always took care of her, but they were boring and smelled bad and never wanted to play. Mother was beautiful and playful with her brother and Saya craved that attention for herself. She went to the part of the clan compound where her brother and Mother lived and snuck inside. It was nice and warm. She saw many pictures of her brother and drawings he did, but none of it had Saya in it. Her drawings were nowhere to be seen. Saya wandered around until she found the the fire pit that they sometimes barbequed food in that made Saya's mouth water when she smelled it. She sat down next to it and grabbed some of the charcoal to play with. Picking up a particular piece, she found a shred of paper. Curious, she picked it up and realized it was her drawing.

"What are you doing here?" Mother's sharp voice cut through.

"Mommy, I-" Mother was already dragging her out.

"You should be training instead sneaking into my house," She snapped. "You'll never be a proper shinobi with that work ethic!"

No, she was not perfect.

Over the next two months, Saya worked on improving her body and doing physic therapy. She found herself working hard and getting her old physicality back.

When it ended, she found herself with a lot of free time on her hands.
