We're going to need to kill this guy. Dead men tell no tales.

We need to get out of here before the civvies realize that one of the enemies lived.

@Shrooms all the civvies hid at the sound of the tag, right? We can escape without being seen if we go right away?
We gotta bring the bodies with us regardless so Jun can deal with 'em.

But I had a thought about a real fun-and-risky play we could do:

Play it like we're being good Rain ninja, keeping everything quiet, but: Give Naegi Kayo information on this. Is it risky? Yes. Very. However, at the same time as we're handing her an axe to keep over our heads, we're providing her information on the nature of the war to come. And the thing about high level negotiations like this is, the implication of them fucking you over is worth its weight in gold. With that executioner's axe to hold over us, they won't have any reason to fuck with us otherwise. It's kind of like taking out a massive loan to be paid back over a period of years from some rival clan; it gives them power over you that can be used to strengthen bonds.

[X] Drag Sai back to Sarobetsu immediately and have Kobayashi-sensei interrogate him.

Either they were in the middle of defecting, or doing a false-flag, whatever the case Sensei can get the info out of them. If we did run headfirst into a friendly fire situation...well, it wouldn't really make sense to execute us for finding out. We'll probably just get drafted to be the next shadow op team.

Why does that matter? There's nothing suspicious about taking a Rock-nin captive for interrogation.

I'm more worried about leaving evidence behind (i.e. bodies that can be identified as Rain-nin, that incredibly distinctive umbrella, etc.).

Also, maybe we don't want to meet Jun in the middle of Sarubetsu? Or at least not bring Sai with us—the fewer civilians that know what's going on, the better.

[X] Action Plan: Oh Shit, Traitors
  • Kenzou and Shion take turns watching the captive. Knock him out and keep him that way via medical ninjutsu, if possible.
  • Search the bodies for clues. Mission orders, personal journals, storage seals, etc. Take the Rock Headbands as proof of their allegiance/traitorous intent.
    • Were they about to turn traitor to Rock, were they doing a covert false flag mission, what's the deal?
  • Destroy the bodies and their effects (especially clan identifiers, such as the Umbrellas) beyond recognition via Kenzou's swords. Scatter the remains away from the battlefield, and where Momoka believes chakra beasts will find the remains.
    • If there were storage tags on the bodies (and if there is enough room), seal away what body parts we can.
  • If they have storage seals, bury them as deep as Momoko can via jutsu (after searching their contents, and sealing away evidence, of course).
    • Much like the remains, do this away from the battlefield, and away from where we deposited the remains.
      • We're clanless, and Jun hasn't shared his, so this is incriminating evidence.
  • Meet up with Jun, dragging our captive. Leave the captive at a distance outside the range of eavesdropping. Cover lips with hand to prevent captive from lip reading.
  • Debrief Jun, see what he thinks (he's been a member of Rain since, nearly, its founding): traitor to Rock, or false flag?
    • If the latter, do we play up catching enemy Rock ninja, and show off the headbands as proof, knowing that Rock's leadership will keep to this narrative, since it buys them the same international scandal they were going for, but without as many civilian deaths (which would've harmed their infrastructure)?

I don't know if this is in the consideration of everyone voting to head back immediately but it will be dark by the time you get there. You're welcome to do so, of course, just keep that in mind

[X] Action Plan: More like Gruebait
  • Grab any identifying gear and anything from the barn
  • Search the "Rock" ninja for seals, orders, anything interesting.
  • Grab the bodies and the captives and haul ass for Sarobetsu.
  • Set up camp once night falls.
  • Once we get there, camp hidden outside the village, send Kenzou to secretly get Kobayashi-sensei have him interrogate Sai.

So we weren't in this village on an official mission. Sensei sidetracked us here.

Who wants to bet that we just blew an official, compartmentalized op in a big way?

We can still blame Rock for this with their headbands on scene. We just have to go "yeah we came back, ran across some Rock nin doing shady shit on the way, want to invade Rock about it?" and it works out how Rain wanted anyway.

Yeah except we've just killed a bunch of clan nin and one of them lived to relay that information to the Tower.

This feels like we might go missing over it.

This was a pretty interesting plot twist BTW and I look forward to seeing where it goes!

surprised no one has asked any ill-fated questions about the enemy Aspects or anything

Perhaps they know I will only vaguepost :^)
