Starfinder (Worm/Starfinder RPG)

While everyone else is flipping out over Amy's powers I'm just squinting at John's Shield Projector like 'hmmmm... weird'.

Shield Projectors were nifty little 'weapons' in that they… weren't weapons. You couldn't really use one to hurt someone if you tried, short of just gunbucking them with the thing anyway. Instead, anyone hit with a Shield Projector got well… a shield. A body hugging energy shield, to be specific. Typically Shield Projectors came as heavy weapons - fuck huge minigun sized devices that dispensed defenses to your allies. The one Merlin was using was the only pistol variant I could come up with, which gave it the unfortunate drawback of not being very strong. So, instead of girding me against hails of gunfire, each shield would hold against… I want to say maybe two bullets.

See, the canonical Shield Projectors in the Armory book are *weird* - there's only 4 of them, which are effectively all the same weapon at different levels in Starfinder's classic 'product line' approach to improving your gear. They're all classed as 'Small Arms' proficiency, i.e., they're all pistols. But also they're Bulk 2 - 20 times heavier and bulkier than a normal pistol, heavier than many rifles. And then their description section goes and describes them as 'A shield projector is a heavy weapon that encases its target in a short-duration force field' - which is flat-out untrue unless it means the mundane 'weighs a lot' version of 'heavy' rather than the games-rules descriptor version of 'Heavy Weapon'. And none of them are mini-gun style devices either way. Unless you're taking Bulk 2 to mean minigun sized; plausible, as a heavy machine gun is also Bulk 2, but then you run into the issue of the level 4 shield projector also being Bulk 2...

Honestly the whole thing is a weird rules mess and I think basically the most likely explanation is Paizo fucked up somewhere while editing Armory.

Where was his old suit? Did the PRT recover it after the Natzi counter ambush? Did the Natzis keep it? I'm kind of disappointed Amy got a different power, there are enough movers and brutes out there already but Biokinetics are interesting.

Hope her power is a bit more unique than a typical New Wave roster. Also, will Carol think of Amy a bit more like family with a power that is obviously related to them instead of Marquis? It would be in character, but also really fucked up to only be accepted into the family because you have a power now. Like without that power you are not useful and therefore not important.

The Nazis kept it. I assume they are trying to get what use out of it they can before it breaks down on them.

I think they'll have put Victor in it, maybe using Glory Girl's familiarity with the armour to catch her by surprise, as she would instinctively think of it as 'friendly'.

Yeah I kind of fudged it a bit so it would make sense. I think there might have been an errata on the topic at some point but I couldn't find it so this is where I ended up.

Fair, fair. There is apparently no official errata for Armory at all, which is... about in line with Paizo's usual level of quality assurance. But yeah - Shield Projectors look like they started out as heavy weapons, someone tried to edit them to be pistols instead, stopped halfway through and didn't fix the many discrepancies. Or possibly the other way around. Either way, I think what you've done is pretty reasonable (although if John is using the canon level 4 shield projector, which only grants 1d4 temporary hp, his 'two bullets' estimate is a bit optimistic. But that's a character's estimate, he's allowed to be wrong.)

Rather sure Mystic Cure won't remove desease, although "restoring HP" may mean restoring deterioration effects caused by cancer, and by so giving additional time. To cure it MC will need Remove Affliction, the same case with curing clinical depression and it lvl3 spell (lvl 7 character), he is not here yet.
Also, Biohacker's abilities will sure shine here, however it while open still totally new path MC is currently reluctant to step onto.
LOL, between possible low-level upgrades this one Doppleganger Morphic Skin is one that worth being the only power of decent middle-level Stranger. Although would be much more valuable if this fic was written on QQ.
There are Serums that allow him to shapeshift.
No biological upgrades necessary.

"All right, let's get on with it." the Director stated bluntly
Let's.

COMMENTARY
1) Clockblocker is covering for Sophia?
Might or might not buy him brownie points with the girl. Especially since his hormones have decided she's hot.

2)The offhand comment about a bike...he can build her a hoverbike now, can't he? I assume John can go shopping in a local junkyard or secondhand dealer for a motorbike chassis. Unfortunately Sophia is too young to own a motorcycle permit in her civilian ID, so it's gonna be a PRT only ride.

I assume he could build two and leave the second for whichever Ward is on duty patrolling. Assuming Piggot would let him that is.

3)Okay, the scene with Dennis in his lab gives some idea of John's production capacity, and why it matters.

A Healing Ampoule is an ounce of liquid, which comes to roughly 30ml of liquid; a little under a tenth of a soda can. There's 128 ounces in a gallon. 1280 in ten gallons. A 50 gallon drum would be 12,800 ounces.

If he cooks up a single 55 gallon drum a week, the sort you buy at Home Depot for less than a hundred dollars, thats almost 13,000 doses. Doses that can be administered by anyone, shipped across country, and stored indefinitely. Panspecific doses that address physical injury safely and can be handed out as a precaution at S-class events.

That's both a significant bargaining chip for PRT ENE when negotiating with HQ and other departments, and something that has significant utility in mundane hospitals.

And that's me being conservative. The brewing vat he was using in this update was ten feet wide, not ten inches wide. Assuming that when John was talking about industrial-sized containers, he was referring to a 500-gallon vat or larger? That's 130,000 doses at a time. Congratulations, he just became a strategic asset, with many people invested in his welfare. So much for a low profile.

Expect a lot more attempts to wrap him in cotton wool and away from danger. Much to his own frustration.

4)Worth noting that John doesnt have to wait till he's Caster Level 3 to intervene in Dennis father's health. He can craft an Analeptic Tablet(Level 6 item, price 600 ) instead to purge an affliction. Its slower and might require multiple treatments, but should be able to fix him over a month.

5)Sophia is about due to get a younger sister, isn't she? Her mother had a third child in canon; Regent thought the kid looked four, but she remained small enough to carry so might have been as young as two. And the picture in which her mother was pregnant made Regent think Sophia was around 12 at the time, which means she could have been as old as 14 when the child was born.

Basically, they are about due for an additional household addition. More drama

6)The video by Stitches is hilarious.
Very on brand for the Merchants.

The van spun around twice quickly, like we were inside a dry cycle in a laundry machine.
COMMENTARY
1)Vicky getting hit is probably coincidental.
There is no reason for a teen member of New Wave to get targeted, and what happened to Fleur guarantees that New Wave's reaction will be guaranteed to be...robust. Atrocious luck though. Dean is going to freak. Her family is going to freak. John is going to freak. And insist she start carrying an Ampoule with her. Or maybe a protectivering.

2)Interesting trigger with Amy.
Manton-limited Changer-Striker with a biokinesis specialty I'm assuming? That would leave the foundation of her canon power intact while tweaking the functions she found problematical in canon. More likely to use her power if she's comfortable with it, while leaving a loophole to tinker up tools to affect human biology if she wants.

3)The Merchants are about to become the focus of Sophia's attentions arent they?
Assuming the PRT dont lock her down to avoid precisely this scenario.

4)This incident is probably going to draw Youth Guard review. Not every day a new Ward gets swarmed by essentially 3x armed APCs mounting heavy weapons and the equivalent of 3x squads of infantry backing up a Shaker/Brute. Even for BB this is atypical; any other serving Ward in his position with the possible exception of Aegis, and most of the Protectorate, would have died.

5)John established himself as a serious heavy hitter here. Ward or not. Look at what happened: He got hit from ambush. He has to carry six ineffectives, seven if you include the driver. And it's just him against 30x armed normals, a Brute/Shaker and 3x APCs with turreted weapons before receiving receiving reinforcement.

He won. He disabled at least one of the APCs, he put down most of the looks, he stalled Mush until Armsy showed up.And he did so without killing anyone. He kept everyone on his side alive. He kept the normals off Armsmasters back. And he played battlefield medic in the middle of that situation, first to his troopers mid-combat and once Armsmaster arrived, took over getting civilians out. Without his doing so, this encounter would have been a bloodbath.

Consider how it looks to the nerds on PHO, to the PRT troopers, to other capes in BB and beyond, and the public at large. Especially if video footage of this gets out from shop security cameras.

For all the trauma bait, thats solid R reputation right there.

6)There is still the question of whether this had anything to do with John personally in the first place. An all-out offensive like this has objectives, even when launched by the Merchants, who usually have no reason to draw heat like this. If this was aimed at John, it raises the question of how the Merchants were able to locate the vehicle he was in. Points at a major intelligence leak from inside the PRT, whether HUMINT or ELINT. They do have Squealer, so bugs and hacking and cracking PRT comm encryption is all possible. Or just bribing an agent with money or blow.

Also possible is that the Merchants have acquired a precog somehow. Or a Thinker of some sort. We saw them trying to grab Whirlygig/Dervish, so it's not impossible.

7) This is a nontrivial investment of resources by the Merchants. Just the three armored school buses that attacked John's van represents significant work by Squeaker and funds by the Merchants.

WHY?
I can see the Merchants wanting to get their hands on a drug Tinker, but the chances of successfully grabbing a Ward is zero.
He lost his old suit when the Empire stripped him out of it several chapters ago. He never got it back.
Okay, the Empire 88 may be a bunch of neoNazi scumbags, but they are competent, and successful enough to be the biggest, longest lived gang in BB for over a decade. They didnt get that way by taking stupid risks.

Only a moron would intentionally wear the equipment of a hostile Tinker out on an operation. A hostile Tinker you know is still in the same city. And the E88 have no Tinkers.

That rules out the E88. Also rules out Coil, who is no fool himself; both he and the E88 are rich enough to buy their tinketech from reliable sources anyway. The ABB might be willing to make some poor mook risk it, but even they would be wary of unforseen complications.

Only faction that has Tinkers that can repurpose the work of others, or who are reckless enough to risk it anyway, are the Merchants. Squealer specifically, since
Trainwreck should not be in the Bay as of 2009.
So it could be them.

How did they get a hold of the gear though?
Betting the E88 dumped it in the trash, some hobo went dumpster diving and sold it to the Merchants . The E88 are evil, not stupid, and like I said, you have to be either a Tinker or suicidal to use the gear of a hostile Tinker who is still alive.

Alternatively, and disturbingly plausible?
They dumped it in the trash and some random crackhead civilian who found it looted it in order to play parahuman. Victoria recognizes the suit, accosts the perp and they panic and shoot her.

Tbh I'm expecting Amy to have the opposite of her usual power, instead of biological control of others she can alter her own biology. Making herself grow a set of wings would be child's play in that case and it still would leave her as an incredibly powerful Cape as fitting a Shaper bud.

Also Jesus what is going on. The merchants couldn't find their own arse with two hands and a map, what's the end goal here? Coil is the usual suspect, but with the old armor being used I'm almost tempted to say it's Kaiser trying to fuck with him on the quiet after screwing with him last time.
Coil does not have the motive or the leverage to make the Merchants stage an all-out offensive against the PRT. Neither does the E88. And even if the E88 could confirm that John was the dude who fucked up Hookwolf, that wouldnt lead them to attack Glory Girl.

At the moment, my WAG is that they got Mastered by a third party. Maybe the Fallen are in town and using them as patsies.

Clockblocker could "froze" the van and wait reinforcements in it.
Vista could flee without problem. And, probably, could've saved troopers with her from injuries if reacted fast enough.
Trumph have good AoE attack with damage and debuff. And peak human conditions. He'd have decent chances to win, but also chances to die.
Gallant would've been fucked, yes.
Kid Win and Browbeart not in Wards yet.

Protectorate... Miss Militia might have troubles, yes. Anyone else could retreat (Velocity and maybe Battery) or take 'em.

it raises the question of how the Merchants were able to locate the vehicle he was in.
Skidmark would've been here too, if that attack was aimed at John and they knew where he will be. So, I don't think they really knew it. At least definitely not for sure.
edit: Or that attack wasn't aimed (only) at him. Either or.

Betting the E88 dumped it in the trash,
Doubt it. I bet that there are at least some Tinkers (like Elite and Toybox) out there who willing to buy tinkertech for studying. Why dump something you can sell for good money?

The tablet leaves the user in agony for hours while it works. John can hold out for a less agonizing option. Dennis' dad won't croak anytime soon.

Author forgot about her. It doesn't matter because a toddler doesn't contribute to the plot at all. John doesn't interact with Sophia's mom in any meaningful way either. All the Hess kids are basically independent. And while we can criticize Miss Hess's negligent parenting style, two of her kids are heroes and one went to college. Can't argue with those results. /jokes

Skidmark heard "tinker drugs" an decided to try and steal it. A barrel of healing drugs is absurdly valuable. What? $1 million bucks? Who knows.

I don't like to attribute everything to a Coil plot, but this was a big coordinated attack on multiple PRT trucks by basically the entire of the Merchant gang. Maybe the Merchants learned about this from staff at one of the hospitals Star Finder would visit, but I doubt it. Spoiling a Ward an excellent debut of a healing Ward seems like something Coil would want. All he would need to do is have one of his spies in the Merchants tell Skidmark about the new Ward and the barrel of tinker healing drugs he has.

Doubt it. I bet that there are at least some Tinkers (like Elite and Toybox) out there who willing to buy tinkertech for studying. Why dump something you can sell for good money?
They had the suit for weeks at this point. Once it became apparent that Star Finder would not retrieve it, may as well use it. I guess you could put an E88 grunt in it just in case it self destructs.

Of all the serving Wards, only Aegis would have survived that car collision in working order, given the general condition of the PRT troopers in the van with John. Of the Protectorate, Armsmaster, late-stage Dauntless maybe, and Assault. Miss M, Battery and Velocity are not immune to blunt force trauma.

A conscious CB could freeze the van, but this was a crash. There's holes in the windshields and windows. Vista could run away if ahe was conscious, but she could not take anyone with her. Triumph is a Blaster; hes very fit, but he's not bulletproof. Aegis wont die, but heavy weapons can trash him regardless. Gallant WOULD die.

Stalker would actually do the best here, assuming she goes Breaker from the beginning.

As for the Protectorate, Miss M and Velocity would die. So would Dervish and Dauntless. Armsmaster alone would be dicey. Same with Assault and Battery.
Skidmark would've been here too, if that attack was aimed at John and they knew where he will be. So, I don't think they really knew it. At least definitely not for sure.
Or Skids was needed elsewhere.
Insufficient data ATM.

These are the E88. Neonazis. That limits the number of people who would deal with them even in the criminal community, or who they would be willing to deal with in good faith.

And they certainly didnt sell Tinkertech to a rival gang in the same city. They canonically despise the Merchants and would have no desire to strengthen them by arming them.

Besides, the E88 are probably the wealthiest parahuman gang in the city, with overseas connections to Gesselschaft. Its between them and Coil, and they almost certainly have more liquid assets due to their access to corporate money. They dont need the money, not when Kaiser runs Medhall.

I suspect them too. My comment was about pointing at implausibility of the idea of dumping the tinkertech, becuase even if someone don't want or unable to use it, they can sell it.
Well, maybe not some rando, because one need at least some connections to reach tinkers, but E88 isn't some rando.

BAHAHAHAAHAHAHA! That'd be hilarious. Especially if she is just curious about him because his Shard, IF he has one, is utterly unusual.

But yeah, I think the Asexual or Demisexual thing is going to be his best bet going forward. Especially dealing with Victoria and Dean, not to mention Emma and Taylor.

I wonder if Emma can convince her dad to pull strings to get her to Arcadia and Taylor can go with her there instead of them both going to Winslow. That'd be something she'd probably try to do because 'her hero' goes to Arcadia. Even if he swears a lot. And is a weird guy. Because he is hot and her hero. Sigh. Emma is going to crush so fucking hard its not funny.

Hopefully John can keep them all safe.

I still wonder though if something is going to happen. Its theory that the Simurgh actually arranged for Khepri to happen and for Taylor to trigger in the first place. Its worrisome.

Still, just finished a full reread and damn, this is so fucking good. God, I can't wait to see how the butterflies fly.

I mean, Shaper could trigger Amy into a full on Changer rather then a healer so she gets the ability to fly. Taylor could end up a Tinker. Who knows at this point.

Also there are a lot of Endbringer attacks between now and canon. John is going to have to be careful to not get too insane and draw attention.

Aaaand there is the whole 'JackFinder' plot thread.

I wonder....

Maybe our MC could avert Sheryl aka Squealer from ending up drug addled and dependent on Skidmark?

Or helping her get Clean?

Would be hilarious if the Big Boobed Trashy Tinker latched on to him.... The reactions of everyone to it would be even funnier! ^_^

There are thee spellcaster Classes in SF, each one derivating from nerfed Arcane and Divine magic and Psionics power users of D&D and Pathfinder, and MC likely has access to all three of them . Mystic class is what left from Divine magic users (and that's likely where he got his healing spell from, since Arcane-like Technomancers don't have it, only Mystics and psionic-like Wichwarpers).
However he can't do that much more than using his ampoules - his own spellcasting is restricted by several uses per day, and every spell he knows may be also charged into Spell jems - so every given moment he'll likely have much more prepeared healing ampoules than spellcaster's daily quota of spell uses .

There are the Genetic Templates as an option?

Like "Healer Template" that provides Regeneration that scales as John would level up.

Also Templates like "Alpha", "Paragon" and "Amphibious" etc.

Then you have Genetic Grafta of Xeno's, not only can this include stuff like extra limbs, wings, void survival etc, but it can also include Spell like Abilities such as Psionics, Healing Spells, Shapeshifting etc.

Heck if John wanted to, he could graft into himself the Astriapi Racial ability to make Magical Healing Honey..... Either that or do some Modifications to some Bees to get the same? Lol

He could even replicate some Symbiotes?

Sadly, from the 'tanks', its probably too late. But rescuing her and adding her to the 'Older Women who respect and like him' role is an amusing thought. Right along with Whirligig/Dervish and Miss Militia.

Heh.

The tablet leaves the user in agony for hours while it works. John can hold out for a less agonizing option. Dennis' dad won't croak anytime soon.
Eight hours, during which you CAN take painkillers.
Given as John has no timeline for advancement of his levels, he kinda has to consider it. Any cancer patient would trade several hours of pain to be disease free.

Not to mention the pill is a nice to have in the event that he himself gets poisoned before learning Remove Affliction. The Jack Finder subplot exists, and Bonesaw has been with the Nine for four years now.
Author forgot about her. It doesn't matter because a toddler doesn't contribute to the plot at all. John doesn't interact with Sophia's mom in any meaningful way either. Toddler complicates John and Sophia's lives.
Thats enough reason to have her around.
Still, not the author.

Coil doesnt orchestrate attacks for the hell of it.
And this early, he had no agents of influence among the Merchants. This is unlikely to be him.

They had the suit for weeks at this point. Once it became apparent that Star Finder would not retrieve it, may as well use it. I guess you could put an E88 grunt in it just in case it self destructs.
Trackers exist.

The E88 have no way to check for something like that in a Tinkers gear, and the moment John escaped, this became an issue. Said issue became even more pressingly after Sophia showed up as a Ward, since they had to consider the possibility that the PRT or John had been tracking its location across their safehouses, the way he was tracking their phones.

They would have dumped it immediately and begin sanitizing their safehouses. Evil, not reckless or stupid.

All the Kings Men
"Amy calm down. I'm in a PRT van headed to headquarters - my transport was attacked by Merchants. Can you get Vicky downtown instead?" I asked quickly, mind racing.

I was already pretty stressed out on account of everything that had just happened, so Amy 'give you cancer for looking at her funny' Dallon being mad at me was definitely not something I was interested in experiencing.

Really, what I wanted to ask was why she didn't heal Vicky herself, and barring that, what the fuck she had biotinkered up on the spot to be able to fly anyone anywhere but I got the distinct impression that straying from to topic at hand would probably just piss the brunette off.

"No. You have to come here." Amy quickly - too quickly actually - refused my request. There was definitely a certain degree of worry hidden by the anger in her voice that was putting me on edge.

"Amy, what did you do?" I demanded.

"Nothing! Just get here!" She snapped at me, before then immediately hanging up.

I worked my jaw for a second, trying to think of what exactly I should do or say to make this situation work in my favour. With my weapons down to zero charge, I couldn't use them for the jump jet functionality any more than I could use them as a weapon. I kept spare battery packs in the storage compartment of my armor, but I only had so much space to carry stuff and had already used them all up during the fighting. So my mobility was severely limited. I could probably use a Personal Gravity spell to get around but I'd have to break out of the van first and-

Wait what the fuck was I thinking? Was I stupid? Was my mind just stuck in fight or flight mode?

"Star Finder to Console, I need to detour to another location. Glory Girl is injured and can't be moved." I quickly radioed in.

There was a pause, and then Armsmaster replied to me instead of the agent on the console.

"This is Armsmaster. What is Glory Girls' current location?" He asked pointedly.

I hesitated but ultimately kind of had to answer the question.

"Her sister managed to get her to the abandoned building I used to tinker in. It's near my home." I offered with a silent apology to Sophia for giving up the location of our hiding spot to the PRT. I swear to god, Amy better have a good fucking explanation for this or I was going to visit evey torture Soph was going to heap on me back on her twofold.

"Negative. There is an active battle between the Merchant and the Empire in that area. Star Finder, return to base and give me the address, we'll have an ambulance pick her up." The console guy ordered.

I tensed and didn't immediately reply or confirm that I had heard him.

"Merlin, can we get Amy back on the phone or..?" I asked my AI urgently.

"I have been trying to do so sir. She isn't answering." Be replied simply.

God dammit Amy.

"Armsmaster, sir. I keep extra supplies there. I can rearm and be prepared to heal more people if you escort me. O-or you can take them yourself!" I asked urgently.

Truthfully, I didn't keep that much extra stuff at the fish packaging plant anymore. There were maybe… three vials of healing serum laying around somewhere, a polymorph and… I want to say a spell gem? The only thing of real use at the place was a bunch of extra battery packs I kept for when I wanted to do some extracurricular caping. Still, if I had to, I would just dump my personal supply of healing tech in Armsmasters lap and lie about it. I had used so much of the stuff today, and made so much of it that I doubted anyone could have reasonably kept track besides myself or Merlin.

The thing was, I really didn't want to piss anyone off by jumping out the back of the van and sprinting into the distance- but I absolutely would if I had to.

I think Armsmaster probably picked up on that. Or at least, misunderstood enough of my mental state to realize I wasn't in a good place to be fucked with at the moment, because eventually his stony voice came back to me over the comms.

"This is Armsmaster. I'll take point and lead us around the worst of the fighting." He eventually put forth.

I slumped in relief, not that it was noticeable to any of the troopers around me through my armor. I wondered if I should be concerned that Armsmaster of all people seemed to have the best grasp on what kind of person I was. Then I put the thought out of my mind. Maybe he was just better with people than I gave him credit for - he was the leader of the local Protectorate.

Still at least one thing was going right. I just had to get through this and then I could get out of my armor and catch some sleep.

"What the actual fuck?" Was the first thing I had to ask upon walking into my old hideout.

Armsmaster had been true to his word, and we had made all haste towards the place once he had plotted out a course around all the fighting going on today. Apparently my particular location had been one of the least dangerous to be in, or at least, had experienced the quickest ending to hostilities. The rest of the Protectorate were still running around the city putting out fires and stomping out small riots. I had no idea what the hell the Merchants thought they were going to achieve, but many of the other attempted attacks on the PRT had dissolved into less focused bouts of looting and violence that had spread out over a wider area.

Which is about what I'd expect from an army of crack heads.

Regardless, I was glad that Armsmaster was holding off on getting into the fray for my sake. He had to be chomping at the bit to dive back into things.

Which was all entirely separate from exactly what the fuck I was looking at when I walked into my old workshop.

The doors that usually had stuff piled in front of them so only Sophia could ghost through and open them? Those had been bulldozed open. At first I figured that maybe Vicky had gotten it together long enough to muscle them open, but the damage was much more consistent with a large object ramming them open - like a car or something.

When I carefully stepped through the doors of the building - I had held Armsmaster off with some bullshit about disabling defenses - it was to find a… hell I don't actually know how to describe it. It was like a biopunk approximation of a Gryphon.

A normal Gryphon - and I say normal here in reference to depictions of the things in myth and legend - was a lion with the head and forelimbs of an eagle, and a wingspan that allowed the lumbering thing to fly.

What I was looking at was almost that. It had the Lion body down, but it was hairless. It had eagle wings that looked like they would be as wide across as an entire city street when extended - but instead of feathers it had these huge balloon-like pustules dotted along their length, which made it look like an angry plucked chicken. When I entered its field of view, massive ophidian eyes swiveled towards me and the entire thing shuddered and hissed at me, spitting tiny droplets of acid across the ground in front of me.

Oh. Oh Amy. Why?

I got the immediate answer to that question when Amy - looking haggard and wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt like she had been jogging before this - stumbled into view, then swatted the thing on the side.

"She's this way." The brunette told me urgently, stumbling past the… thing… and grabbing me by the hand to drag me further into the plant.

I didn't move of course. I just stood still, the weight of my armor making it impossible to shift me with Amy's lack of upper body strength.

"Amy what the fuck-" I started to ask, only to be cut off.

"After. Heal Vicky first." She ordered me, and I shit you not her voice came from two places at once. The fucking Gryphon thing and her own mouth.

"Oh god that is so creepy." I mumbled, finally allowing myself to be moved inside.

"Here. Fix her." Amy demanded of me again once she had pulled me to the disused conveyor belt that Vicky was laying on.

Vicky had the same 'just going for a jog' look that her sister did, only the bottom half of her pants were soaked with blood, and she was pale as a ghost. Her legs were also definitely not pointing in the right direction, which made my initial assumption that whatever had broken in her legs had probably clipped an artery or something. It was a small miracle she wasn't dead yet - which wasn't to say the possibility didn't still exist.

"Merlin." I quickly ordered, setting whatever the fuck Amy had going on for the moment in order to keep my friend alive.

After all, she'd have done the same for me.

"Enroute." He informed me, no doubt exiting the vehicle where I had left him and sprinting into the room.

"Armsmaster this is Star Finder - I need to perform emergency surgery in here. Hang tight." I quickly informed Armsmaster - out loud, so Amy could hear me - then turned to her while also quickly disengaging my armor so I could slip out of it. I generally wore a PRT issue generic body suit when I was in the thing, so I went from feeling sort of stifled to cold in a matter of seconds once my sweat drenched skin hit the outside air.

"Confirmed." He responded simply. I had to assume at this point that the Director had given him orders to stick around, probably because to her this was going to be a favour owed by New Wave, and was relatively safe to me personally.

I didn't really care at the moment however.

"You need to hide that thing." I informed her quickly while rushing over to my old chemistry set to grab a pair of scissors I typically used to open plastic packaging.

"Why?" She asked me, her tone somewhere between angry and worried.

I didn't bother gesturing at the monster as I spoke, instead running back over to Vicky to start cutting the bottom half of her pants open so I could get at her legs. Merlin quickly had Science Dog draw even with me, and it was a testament to how freaked out Amy was that she didn't even question the presence of the robot dog she had probably never seen before.

"Looks like some Biotinker shit. No one likes Biotinkers." I grunted as one of Merlins manipulators came up to begin injecting healing serum into Vicky.

This was kind of touch and go, all things considered. Unlike Starfinder - where injuries were purely measured in the form of hit points without regard for the nature of said injury - I had to deal with a few quirks from my own healing. For one, if I didn't set the bones in Vickys legs properly, then when the serum kicked in they would just heal in the broken position.

One thing serum was good for, however, was replenishing blood loss. So basically what I had to do was slowly inject enough into Vicky that she wouldn't die of blood loss - while simultaneously keeping the dosage low enough that I wouldn't have to constantly re-break her legs to set them properly.

I probably couldn't have done it alone. I definitely couldn't have done it without the free encyclopedic knowledge of human biology and the medical procedures pertaining to it that my power gave me. Knowledge that I wouldn't have if I was 'just' a Technomancer or 'just' an Engineer. For the first time I found myself heavily drawing on the knowledge inherent to the Biohacker class - which, in case it wasn't obvious, was almost literally the Starfinder equivalent of a Biotinker.

So you can probably see why I hadn't made it my primary focus.

"I- is she going to be okay? You can save her right?" Amy asked me instead of directly responding to my statement - though I did notice the Griffon thing start to sort of… fidget… where it was standing on the other end of the room. Frankly, if I wasn't so burned out from the rest of the day's events, I would probably have been a lot more distressed by its presence behind me.

As it was, I was just ignoring it.

"Yes. Now move your monster before Armsmaster sees it." I snapped, finally shearing through enough of the blood soaked cloth to get a look at what I was dealing with. It wasn't as bad as I feared, but it wasn't great either. Her femur had pretty much split into three separate pieces - one of which was stuck straight through the skin at an angle. The offending shard of bone had probably clipped her tibial artery, hence all the bleeding.

"I am!" Amy growled back at me. Again, I didn't bother responding, I had bigger fish to fry. The 'operation' as it was, was over pretty quickly. I didn't have to do much, I just had to work very fast. Which is not to say I enjoyed digging around in Vickys leg or anything, but all I had to do was roughly put all the pieces in the right spots before dialing the healing up. Once I was done that, I then immediately moved to my old chemistry set.

"What are you doing? Are you done yet?" Amy demanded of me, following behind me like a nervous mother hen.

"I was just digging around in your sister with my bare fucking hands. I need to cook something up to stop her from getting an infection. Amy. I love you, but please fuck off." I barked, causing her to jerk away from me, and for a massive shadow to cast itself over my workspace.

Irately, I looked up to find myself staring into the eyes of a giant fucking gorilla.

I'll be honest. I just about nearly shit myself.

"Amy, what the fuck?" I demanded again, nearly knocking over my chemical set trying to move away from the thing.

"You said not to look like a Biotinker!" She responded to me with an angry hiss.

"So you made a fucking gorilla?" I asked incredulously.

"No you ass, I made my power a gorilla!" She snapped back.

It clicked into place for me then.

"You're a Master?" I all but cried out, turning back to the time sensitive task of cooking up something to make sure Vicky didn't get an infection.

"No! Yes- why do you care?" She snapped.

"Because Master powers come from feelings of isolation, loneliness, abandonment, and betrayal - you're not supposed to have one. You were supposed to get-" I stopped, whipping my head around to stare at her. She stared blankly back at me, like she couldn't comprehend a word I was saying anymore.

I panned my head to look at Vicky, who had been restraining her 'feel good' aura for over a month now, and had been spending increasing amounts of time with me and Soph until recently.

Okay so… maybe there was grounds for a Master power there.

"So what, you can make monsters?" I asked in worry.

"No! This is like… a benign tumour? I can feel it all the time. It's biology. How to change it, how to make it do what I need it to…" she trailed off, getting a glassy eyed look that coincided with the entire gorilla rippling like it was made of jello and then growing slightly.

"…make it better." She finished with a shrug.

What, so like, her old power but it only works on the projection?

Wait, did this mean I was going to be stuck at the hospital alone? Ugh. I had so many questions.

Yanking the vial of green fluid I had been concocting while we spoke of the conveyor belt my kit was on, I set all of that aside in order to rush over and pour it down Vicky's throat.

Then I released a sigh of relief.

Her skin tone was already back to a normal rosey pink, and her breathing had evened out. Her legs were healed, and the Drone detected no sign of complications from anything we had done.

One problem down. I glanced at Amy who was standing less than a foot away, staring at Vicky like her life depended on the girl's wellbeing.

Many more to go.

"- and she flew into a wall and fell and her legs are all messed up and she's screaming and can't fly so I'm flying her to your stupid warehouse because this is your fault and you have to fix it!"
Such Amy.
How the fuck did they even get his old armor and weapons?
The real question is how are they using it. Tinkertech falls apart and needs constant maintenance from the one who made it.
On Coil: It does sound an awful lot like Coil. But... is Coil even a thing yet?
Coil should be in the Bay at least. He was making money off the markets and in other ways for years to prepare for making a big move and to pay Cauldron back. No Undersiders and without Tattletale he should be very hampered. The number of moles is always questionable.

edit: beat by chapter.
He's going to be saying that a lot.
Wait, did this mean I was going to be stuck at the hospital alone?
Only if he lets himself get pushed around.

Ooh nice! I certainly didn't expect her power to be like this, but it's a pleasant surprise nonetheless! It still has a lot of potential to be quite versatile due to Shaper shenanigans, and she can probably cook up some very interesting things once she has enough training with her powers.

Oh, and thanks for the amazingly fast update as always and keep up the good work! You are freaking speed mate!

This is definitely an interesting power variation for Amy, the real question is can her projection generate complex serums and other compounds. IE does she still have full Shaper under the hood. Or is this a more Master / Protector version which is much more focused around being a great bodyguard.

I'd also be curious if her minion can have minions =)...

Experimentation Ho!
