Star Wars: The Chosen One (An Anakin Skywalker Quest)

[X] [Story] Write-in: Go with Qui-Gon and join the Jedi. Tell Master Zan about the offer to study at the Jedi academy. Say that it was a dream of ours to become a Knight, but that training under her has been an honor. Ask if, upon passing the Trials, we could come study under her once more. If she says yes, ask her if there's a means to contact her on her home planet and if she has any independent study materials we could use while at the Academy. If she says no, express our regret.

@Arthellion, these people are voting to join the temple but with an unnecessary stipend attached that I think we're going to get anyway, does that mean they still count towards the greater majority of the Go to the Temple votes or are they separate? Because they do want to go to the Temple first, as do a majority of the voters.

I've always said that, because we want to leave it now doesn't mean we'll want to leave it then. Even if a lot of people say they want to go.

I've said that we'll really only have two major opportunities to go before we become a knight.

Yes, but it'd probably be when you're a padawan after a mission you didn't like or something.

Or if you don't choose a master.

Realistically, that really only means one'll be likely to happen.

So that's it. Nothing else, and only one shot before waiting all the way to becoming a knight, which could mean the clone wars are about to start, and then we've got other priorities. If not, there's probably a bunch of other stuff we'd have opened up in the meantime that could distract other people.

So sue me if I'm banking on doing this now, and hoping for things to work out later.

As for the Jedi archives having a lot of knowledge, yes, that is true. But you're forgetting that we'd still need to get access to a lot of that knowledge we'd actually really want, especially things that should be forbidden. The Coruscanti are super paranoid about dark sider knowledge and a bunch of related sticky subjects because they're afraid of people falling because of that.

The Jedi are a lot of things, but forthcoming with knowledge they deem dangerous or inconvenient to their own worldview they are not.

Discussed earlier - iirc together.
If we were going to get it anyway he wouldn't have approved my write-in.
is the only option that lets us take both.
Assuming it takes longer to finish the Teras training than it does for the order to be given, yes.

Is there a chance Master Zan can go to the Jedi temple as a teacher?

First off, I think we all need to take a moment to calm down. Name calling doesn't help anyone, whether it be reductionist or crass. Next, I think we need to take a step back and try and think about this entire mess without getting worked up.

McLuvin, it is true that multiple people voting for Coruscant have said that they are willing and hoping to leave the Order when Anakin finishes his training, yourself included. However, multiple other people voting for Coruscant have said they regard it as the only way to get to Knighthood. There will certainly be a faction at that point voting strongly to remain in the Order because of the Sunk Cost Fallacy, or the idea that getting a Master is the best way to become a Knight. Thereafter, becoming a Knight will likely preclude a focus on anything beyond Jedi teachings until after the Clone Wars are in full swing. Assuming of course, that the Clone Wars still become a thing.

Next, I think both sides should consider what information will be available to an Initiate at the Coruscant Temple. It's not all going to be Force Techniques. In fact, the Jedi Order at this point in time wears so many hats, and Anakin's coming so late to his training, that it probably won't even mostly be Force Techniques. Anakin's going to need to learn multiple languages, diplomacy, how to pilot Jedi craft, Galactic History, Galactic Politics, Galactic Culture, and a thousand and one other things that are required of the Defenders of Peace and Order in the Republic. Added to that heavy workload he will also learn how to use and build a Lightsaber, and likely construct his first following a trip to Ilum.

There will be a heavy social pressure for Anakin to conform to Jedi norms while he's an Initiate, which will include squashing any memories or attachment to his family, not acting from emotion, and considering the Greater Good above all else. It is likely, though not definite, that Anakin will have very little in the way of Free Time while he's catching up with the training the rest of the Initiates have undergone.

While on Coruscant, Anakin will also have the opportunity to interact with the main body of Prequel canon, both plot and characterwise. That' s a mixed blessing, given the Sith, but also given the various cool Jedi who will be around.

Now, let us try to compare this to going with Master Zan and the Followers of Palawa. We now know that Anakin's Teräs Käsi master is Arden Lyn, a veteran of the First Great Schism and a woman who's been wandering the Galaxy for a millennium at this point per the GM. That means she's a Dark Sider, but also that she predates the toxic ideology of the Sith. From what we know in canon, her distaste for the Jedi of her day was warranted, as they destroyed her homeworld unprovoked, and were the ones to initiate combat with the Legions of Lettow before they'd done anything beyond study the Dark. Now, it can be said that the Legions were a clear threat as Dark Siders, but at that point they hadn't done anything besides form a powerbase of Force Users distinct from the Jedi. Not in opposition to mind, just distinct form.

She was a Jedi Knight before leaving to join the Legions, and so is at least as knowledgeable as a modern day Jedi in the ways of the Force. Her knowledge of Lightsaber techniques is likely rather more sketchy, but we don't know what she's learned in the last thousand years. Regardless, training with her will focus on developing Anakin's ability with the Force, and probably also a fair bit of history and philosophy on why the Jedi aren't all that and a bag of chips.

She may also push Anakin to Fall, or she may not. It depends on what her end goals are, and whether she's fallen into habits typically associated with the Sith. As a Thousand Year Old Dark Sider in a GALAXY OF PARANOID JEDI I doubt she has, but who knows? We only know as much as we do because the GM told us!

Both options are roughly equal in what Anakin will learn. Before he went to bed Arthellion said as much, that Anakin will learn well and strongly in either choice. So really, it's more about what you put a priority on. Is it spending at least the next 3-4 years focusing on becoming a well rounded Jedi of the Coruscant Temple's style, followed by further training, be it Jedi or otherwise, or is it spending the next indeterminate amount of years learning the ancient ways of the Followers of Palawa, followed by further training, be it Jedi or otherwise?

As was stated before me while I was composing this beast of a post, Arthellion has stated that he will count this particular write in purely as a vote for the Temple with a little extra fluff as that is how Arthellion views it.

Wow, what an incredibly hotly contested vote. Over 90 voters so far - That's damn impressive and shows how invested people are in the quest, which is great to see. I've just caught up with all the discussion, and I have to admit that the Palawa option seems more tempting now than it did earlier, what with the GM revealing all of the potential esoteric abilities on offer, which are much more exciting than plain old Teras Kasi. However, I'm surprised by how little reaction there has been to the fact that our potential teacher strongly considered kidnapping and experimenting on us, as well as the GM's warning that she's likely to ask us to do some very Sith like things.

Personally, I don't think this sounds like a woman that we want to have almost complete power over us for the next half a decade or more, especially as those will be some of Anakin's most formative years. It's especially ironic as much of the earlier pro-Palawa discussion centered on how going with Zan would keep us safe from the attention of dangerous dark siders lol.

It's primarily for this reason that I'm sticking firmly to my Jedi vote.

My goal is for anakin to become leader of the CIS and rule the galaxy. Having connections to the jedi who will be the ones commanding the republic forces interferes with that plan you know with the whole divided loyalties thing.

can you make two votes like that?

can you make two votes like that?

He should if it were approval voting buuuut seeing as how both votes lead to the same outcome he is essentialy doubling his votes.

We can just manually subtract one from the combined tally. So currently 53 instead of 54. Hold on, make that 52 as it looks like Rjrulew did the same thing. Looks like they're the only ones though.

So currently 52 Jedi vs 40 Palawa.

I don't think we actually know why the Jedi destroyed Palawa. For all we know they had a perfectly justified reason. And well:

Followers of Palawa
Palawa
Teräs Käsi

"They fled their homeworld of Palawa to the Outer Rim planet of Bunduki after Palawa was destroyed in a long-ago war involving the Jedi Council."
"This planet was the original homeworld of the Followers of Palawa. The planet was destroyed in a battle that had involved the Jedi Order, and the Jedi arranged for the relocation of the planet's inhabitants to Bunduki."
"Teräs Käsi, or "steel hand" in Basic, was an unarmed combat discipline. It was created sometime prior to 3678 BBY[1] on the planet Bunduki by the Followers of Palawa, refugees of the planet Palawa, which was devastated earlier in a war somehow involving the Jedi Council."

A war involving the Jedi Order/Council, but not necessarily started by them for no good reason whatsoever. Maybe it wasn't even a war between the Order and Palawa, but a war between the Order and a third party with Palawa merely being in the crossfire. Considering they had no problem relocating the survivors to Bunduki, I don't think the Jedi destroyed the planet on purpose.

Question, why are people still adamant on Palawa? For me, it's not like Anakin can't develop his own skills when training with the Jedi. There's a whole galaxy to see during Clone Wars. Just my two cents here.

Both actually count as the same vote for the matter of Temple vs Followers according to the GM.
Exactly and since both count as the same thing but tallied seperately and said tallies are added together at the end, a vote for both=2 votes for going to the jedi temple

Well my reason at least is that if we take the jedi option it will be almost guaranteed that we will be on the republic's side during the war. I do not want that I want anikin to be leader of the CIS and that option gets more difficult if he joins the jedi order as then he will have connections there.

There's no guarantee the Clone War will even happen. How would living as a hermit on Bunduki for the next 5-12 years help with becoming leader of the CIS anyway?

Hmm, but joining the Order could put us into contact with Dooku. He might even be an option as our Master after we've finished Initiate Training.
