Star Wars: The Chosen One (An Anakin Skywalker Quest)

Varya Holocron -Canon Sith
Omake Sith holocron II

All is quiet around you. Above your head the night sky is netted with stars and the moons shine brightly down on the grey sloping dunes.

There is little to be found, seen or heard on Tatooine. If it had once been more than a desert world under the control of the Hutt Cartel, more than just another slip on the Republic radar that the Senate could not be bothered with, being so far away from the Galactic center and lacking in any useful resources, you could not say. And yet...time and time again, The Force seemed to have more in store for this world.

So what was it about this planet that refused to disappear quietly, to become a none entity? You wondered, but the Force did not respond. All was quiet around you.

You looked back to the pale red pyramid with its beautiful wrought gold framework, holding it lightly in your palm as you prepared the holocron for another recording. With a touch of the Force the pyramid floated before you, beginning the scanning process that would capture your appearance and cognition, creating the closest approximation it can to yourself to be preserved eternally.

"It is Sorzus Syn who first laid down the code of the Sith, but it is on these words that I will encourage you now to meditate. Peace is a lie.

Why? Why did Syn chose to start so powerfully and with these four words reveal an universal truth that has never been acknowledged? The Jedi would tell you differently," you scoff and sneer, unable to control your instinctive derision for those outdated monks "There is peace, they say and they are not wholly wrong."

Frowning, you stare beyond the holocron recalling your journey to recover as much Sith knowledge as you could in your lifetime, beginning on you homeworld of Dromund Kaas, visiting the frozen wastes of Ziost, the swamplands of Dathomir, the void where once Malchor V stood and so many other places rich in lore and ravaged by time. However, the lessons you learnt in your long years cannot be forced on others. Knowledge could be shared, but wisdom? Therein lies you problem. So it is that you must assume the burden of teaching, even if you cannot abide most sentient species. It is for this reason you are making the holocron, so that you may continue avoiding interacting with others and not wasting your time when it can be better used researching.

Your mind turns to Korriban, the ancient birthplace of the Sith, with its wondrous tombs in the Valley of the Dark Lords and the crumbling remains of the Sith Academy. An arm and a leg were the price paid for you to delve in those ruins the tuk'ata prowled. You would give your remaining limbs too if you could have only lingered there longer to study. Alas it was not to be, but once the Force shows you why it urged you on here, you think you might make another attempt. Finally you recall that the recorder is still working and continue speaking.

"So how can both Sith and Jedi be right? Recall from our former meditations that what one person might think is right, isn't the truth for another. We share different point of views and while some have commonalities, all are unique in either thought or speech. At times you could persuade or coerce someone into agreeing with your view, but the same can be said for another. However we are not talking mere divergent views, here, no, no. Disagreements of ideals have always existed and people have and will always fight about their opinions. No, I do not fear the many and neither should you, for even if they are legion what they lack is that which is most important. Cohesion.

Instead I caution that should you fear, then fear the one that raises above, the one that brings them together and turns the many into one. Foolish is he that will not fear such a person, for if you do not fear than you will not struggle and if you do not struggle than you will not live. It is here I will leave you for now. Ponder my words, turn them over, find faults with them and let us discuss more later on the subject while you ask yourself why is there peace and why is it a lie. " you stop the recording, closing the holocron.

In the distance a lone howl of a Tusken Raider sets off a great wave of noise as more join in.

The night is no longer quiet.

Varya's Holocron

The holocron is a red crystal pyramid in gold framework scuffed from sand abrasions and can easily fit into an adult's palm, but would be uncomfortable for a young one or small race to fit in one hand alone.

It was created by a Dark side user, named Varya, a former slave, who by chance or as she later come to think, the will of the Force, got stranded on Dromund Kaas with the slavers transporting her and others to be sold. As a young orphan, she had been tricked into thinking the slavers were seeking employers for jobs in the Outer Rim and signed away her freedom. The lack of knowledge about the world as well as how little she knew in truth of the galaxy at that age, would become the driving focus of her life and work.

Freed by the Prophets of the Dark Side for her Force-Sensitivity, she joined their ranks as a learner, but was disatisfied with much of the Dark Force cult and their teachings. She was a believer that knowledge is power and power is freedom and that it was folly to separate them. More than that, even if her time as a slave was not long, it had built an abhorrence of emotional outbursts and lose of control, when one of the other slaves was killed as a warning because of his temper.
A cold, calculating woman she was patient and diligent in her studies, if not fanatical about how willing she was to go just to learn more. She lost an arm and leg while exploring Korriban's tombs, but thought it a price worth paying for what she gained.

An archelogist, historian and polyglot, she began preserving all she had learnt in the hopes that what she re-discovered would not be lost again and to instruct future students without having to interact with them. A Force vision saw her journey to Tatooine where she dissapeared among the sand dunes never to be heard from again, her holocron lost to the ages.

Holocron Teachings:
The Sith Code
The Complete History of the Sith Empires from the First Schism of Ideological Schools of the Je'daii to Present Day
High Sith, Common Sith and Masassi(languages)
Maps of the habitable worlds in former Sith space (Dromund Kaas, Korriban, Dathomir, Ziost, etc.)
Knowledge of all Sith Abilities, but not how to use them;
Knowledge of Sith Alchemy but not how to use it;
Meditations of the Force and the Dark Side and how Letting Your Emotions Rule Outside of Battle is Bad and Even in Battle You Should Not Completely Let it Go;
(427 words)

@Arthellion I'm sorry at first I read that we should write how the holocron was lost on Tatooine and by who it was lost, and I thought it had to be a short story of 1500 words and so much of the omake was written before I realized my mistake. The scene before the information on the holocron, its creator and its content is the night Varya gets captured by Tuskens and dies.

I think Sith knowledge should be our focus and that's what I chose for the holocron. Don't get me wrong, there are some sweet dark side abillities but if the Jedi sense anything dark about us, we'll never get taught by them. The holocron I describe is a fount of knowledge, not to mention that it has information that we can use later to retrieve other holocrons. And yes the Force more or less called Varya to die on Tatooine for us to get her holocron some hundred years later.

I'm sorry if its bad you guys, I stayed up to write it but now I'm kinda unsure, still nothing gained, nothing ventured, right?

edit: added two more sentences to make the transition more smoothly in the omake.
edit2: fixed some spelling mistakes.

Sidreona Holocron -Jedi Canon
Yeah...um...copy and paste doesn't really count.

BUT...

I appreciate the effort.

Non-canon, but you and @Indalecio have earned you guys +1 Chosen point.

I actually expanded on mine.

"To my son Dace,

I have seen you wrestle with you doubts and fears. While it has filled my heart with sorrow to see you struggle so, it also gladdens my heart to see you have not given up. It is my wish to the Force that you continue your efforts, as I have told you often, its not necessarily the most gifted that succeed, but its ones that work the hardest that see success.

While I hope to continue to be around to train you, hopes are not always realized and I hope this holocron may be a small comfort if I am ever absent. As always, you have my love.

Koroght gaghgt Takt" (translated from Tusken, "Blessed be your going out from us")

The holocron is blue, roughly 3cm high cube with nicks and scratches all over and one corner bent in. Despite this, it still works and contains the consciousness of the Jedi Sidrona Diath and his son Dace Diath. The notes from Dace seem to have been added at a later date and contain his musings on his Father's writings.

The holocron descibes various types of meditation and breathing exercises in order to touch the Force, along with the following abilities.

Tutaminis(Absorb/Disapate Energy)

"..under the twin suns of Tatooine, you should have no trouble finding opportunity to practice this."

A skill practiced by many force traditions, and not just the Jedi, it granted the ability to absorb heat, electricity and even some abilities such as Force Lightning, and redirecting those energies, either allowing them to disapate, or redirecting them to power other Force-based abilities. While these abilities were often taught to younglings, it often took an entire lifetime to master them.

Curato salva(Heal Self)

"Ouch!" -Mantra spoken by many Curato Salva users.

A skill centered around the practice of healing oneself. It covered everything from nicks and scratches to curing disease and poison, to even lenghtening one's lifespan. It was theorized that it could even restore maimed limbs, but if so, it would need a very high level of mastery.

Altus sopor(Force Invisibility)

"Not invisibility in the truest sense. Altus Sopor merely blinded the minds of others so that they wouldn't notice your passing."

Altus sopor wasn't true invisibility as you could still be detected by droids and mechanical recording devices. What it did do was prevent sophonts from registering you were there. They could see you, but not attach any significance to you being there, and were even less likely to remember your presence.

Prima Vitae(Sense Life)
Tactus Otium(Sense Force)
Psychometry

The holocron has this listed as potential subject to learn, but when selected, only projects static. Its likely that damage to the holocron is preventing you from viewing these entries.

Precognition

"I've got a good feeling about this." - A particularly unfortunate smuggler before being shot in the back.

Precognition or danger sense was the ability to sense danger before it happened. It sometimes manifested in the form of visions, but would more often manifest in the form of a small voice or feeling warning them of danger or suggesting a course of action.

Telekinesis
Affect Mind
Alter Environment

The holocron has this listed as potential subject to learn, but when selected, only projects static. Its likely that damage to the holocron is preventing you from viewing these entries.

Animal Friendship

"...and that's how I managed to keep my arm while moving past the Krayt Dragon nest."

Animal Friendship allowed you to form a powerful empathic link with a chosen animal. They saw their needs as your needs, their hungers as your hungers. This could prevent an animal from attacking you, goad it into attacking someone else, have it serve as mount or as a guard. This power could be affected by the instincts of animal, it emotional state and/or how alien it was from a sophont's mind.

Form I(Shii-Cho)

"Clumsy and inelegant. I am reminded of a womp-rat flailing its forelegs in an attack. However, it is the basis of the six other Lightsaber Forms, and learning it will give you a good foundation for learning the others." Jedi Sidrona describing Form I.

Form I or the Determiation form was simple, with simple moves and parries. It was the form that every Jedi dabbled in before learning one of the other forms. For those that mastered it, it was similar to Form VII, with chaotic attacks and defenses, relying wholly on the Force to know where to place one's blade.

Form II(Makashi)
Form III(Soresu)
Form IV(Ataru)
Form V(Shien)
Form VI(Niman)
Form VII(Juyo)

The holocron has this listed as potential subject to learn, but when selected, only projects static. Its likely that damage to the holocron is preventing you from viewing these entries.

I umm...fanwanked some stuff.

@Indalecio That's the sort of holocron I'd expect to see in ancient temples or from some wise, ancient Jedi masters that we won't be allowed to touch until we're Knights and has a lot of cool abilities that don't really make sense if it was meant for the training of a kid. History of the Jedi, the Code, Meditation, Form I, telekinesis, animal friendship, precognition these make sense. But techniques like

These are too OP for seven year old Anakin and too strong for a training holocron for a Initiate. Why would his dad not wait to teach those abilities when he had free time to teach Dace, instead of leaving them to the holocron?

Tutaminis is taught to Jedi Initiates. As I mentioned, its really easy to learn, much harder to use effectively and really difficult to master.

Anyway, the holocron senses the level of the user, and can scale back what it teaches. One thing I noted was that Sidrona Diath died in battle against the Mandalorians in the Great Sith War. He may have sensed he was going to kick the bucket and prepared this ahead of time to teach his son in his place.

EDIT: Also, the holocron is damaged, so not all the skills listed can actually be learned.

I know some of the skills listed can't be learnt, I did read the omake. I still think those three abilities you describe sound dangerous without a proper guide and not just a holocron, especially since Dace was sent to Ossus to train with Master Vodo-Siosk Baas, after his father finished training him.

Healing and absorbing heat don't sound that dangerous depending on what the technique to actually do them is. Like, it's not like our character has such a powerful relationship with the force that he'll absorb 4 C's of heat * his mass and instantly deform his proteins.

I pretty much chose the lowest of the low levels skills. They become great when sufficiently mastered, but that takes years, and in the case of Tutaminis decades. Anakin might be able to pick up a few nifty tricks with this holocron, but nothing OP.

Okay, the problem is that I didn't know these techniques aren't OP because they sound like they are. The QM might have to make levels for how far we advance in them, because otherwise it could get OP very quickly.

I mean, like, it kind of explicitly made it clear in the descriptive text that these techniques take a shitton of practice to become OP. No one is going to redirect force lightning day 1. Just look at zuko.

Edit...
Tutaminis: Want to refrigerate your home? Hire a Jedi Master today!

Why do those abilities sound like DnD spells?

They're actually originally from the Star Wars RPG by West End Games. Later Wizards of the Coast, which makes DnD, acquired the Star Wars license and made their own RPG, borrowing some elements from the earlier game. I think the latin sounding ones came from the WotC edition.

The problem is that they sound like techniques that need a teacher to make certain you don't do something to hurt yourself! Even if they're techniques you are thought early in life and expand upon, Anakin is a Vergence in the Force, a nexus point, which means he is powerful. He has a preternatural as well as an instinctive grasp on the Force that most Jedi cannot even match with years of training. He won't be throwing lightning on day one, but a year from now?

@Polemarch is also right that those abilities do sound like D&D spells which is probably why I think them OP.

edit: well they are from D&D, apparently.

Bandon Holocron - Noncanon
Omake Sith Holocron: 1060 words. Double bladed lightsaber HO!

Darth Bandon looked across the horizon of Tatooine. Through his set of macroculars he could just spy Revan and his minions ascending into the Great Dune Sea out of Anchorhead, passing past the Sandcrawlers. Revan was weak now, far from the man Bandon had followed into battle, back when he was a Jedi Padawan. Bandon couldn't imagine that Revan could pose a threat to him, not the vanquished Revan—he who Malak had already proven his lesser. No- this was only another indignity by Malak, truly this mission should have been assigned to some weaker Sith, not to one such as Bandon.
It was nearing the time of recompense, quicker and quicker did the petty betrayals come, and soon Bandon would take what was his. No more would the weak rule him, not once he took Malak's head. Still, Revan once was strong with the force, even if the Dark Side betrayed him; no battle was ever a certainty, not with so fickle a tool as the force. He gestured to the two apprentices wh. Reaching back, Bandon pulled out a glowing red pyramid. He was strong, and it was only fitting that the future Dark Lord of the Sith, should impart his knowledge to future generations. Imagine that such knowledge was lost. He could hardly face his fear that perhaps sometime, far in the future, no one would tremble at the name Darth Bandon. He could almost imagine himself lost, his name laughed at, a mere stepping stone as Revan ascended once more. No. He couldn't let this happen, not to him- not ever to him.
He looked towards the end of the ship and found one of his sycophantic underlings, a young Sith apprentice whose name he'd forgotten as soon as it had been mentioned. The boy was unremarkable, possessing all trademarks of a lower class of Sith. Into his scrawny little fame was packed far more ambition than skill, and far more malice than brains. Personally, Bandon doubted the boy even knew what a Holocron was. The boy was perfect.

"You will not take part in this battle."

"But Master-"

"You are to travel to Mos Espa, the largest city on this world. You will guard this artifact with your life. Live and die, but do not let this fall out of your hands. When I return, if I've found you've lost my artifact, it will be a mercy when I finally kill you. Do I make myself clear?"

"Perfectly." The apprentice gulped. Bandon despised the weak, and if it wasn't for the Holocron, he would strike down the boy where he stood. His death would only improve the Sith Empire.

He handed the pyramid to the boy. With the blank look the boy was giving it, Bandon was sure that his supposition was correct; the apprentice truly didn't know what he held in his hand, the vast repository of knowledge that could transform even such a meager soul into a true Sith. True, it might only look like a piece of art, a small pyramid of carved obsidian glowing with the blood red runes of the True Sith. It was into this small vessel that Bandon imparted all his hatred, all his knowledge. Even should he perish here, even should the Dark Side turn against him, they would still know the name of Darth Bandon, once more the mindless multitudes would cower.

Bandon had never been much for philosophy. He understood the words, the mindless platitudes that weaker minds used to fuel their connection with the Force, but he had never needed it. He was the wild-fire, and it was through his rage that his powers were unchained. Through the force he could fight all enemies, take more damage and inflict more pain. Bandon seethed with the dark side, all that he could take he did and he dared any to try to stop him. All that he had it was by denying the weak teachings of the Jedi, by going against all that they preached. Ambition was his fuel and fury his fire. He burned with a self-interested rage that there were things not yet his, knowledge that yet to be revealed to him. Bandon wanted it all, for he deserved it, and all the galaxy mocked him by keeping it from him. He knew that others had different philosophies as to the nature of the Dark Side, emphasizing cleverness and a cold burning hatred but all that cunning would be cut in half by a good saber. This was to be the testament of Bandon, not of Malak, not of Revan. This was a prophecy of anger.

So, Bandon had transcribed his most precious techniques into the Holocron, those which had transformed him from the weakest of Padawans to the strongest of Sith. All else was useless, lesser skills that were sure to be preserved by lesser Sith. On his own Holocron, he would speak only of that which would elevate. Bandon spoke of infusing oneself with the Dark-Side, absorbing the strongest of attacks by using your own pain and anger to fuel healing. But Bandon had always preferred to leave his enemies dead before they could wound him, and it was for this he had learned -as a much younger Sith- the ability to force a Berserk state upon himself, one in which he would not halt his blades until they were forcibly halted. Finally, he transferred all his knowledge of the use of the saber-staff, with which he had trained since childhood. For that was his most precious ability, and the one he had spent countless hours perfecting, a beautiful dance that could strike down the most fearsome of Jedi. Bandon knew that when he struck down Malak and claimed the empire- it would be because of his skill with the blade. The soul who unlocked the Holocron would learn from the most experienced swordsman among the Sith- nay- in all the galaxy. Bandon could only imagine if he had such a teacher at the beginning of his journey.

As the apprentice sped away on a swoop bike; Bandon returned to the task at hand, killing Darth Revan once and for all. Alas for Bandon would never return from those desert sands, left to die in the bleakness of the Jundland Wastes. The Holocron would end up lost, in the hands of those who had no experience with the force, gambled away in a backroom Sabbac game after it was pried from the dead hands of the Sith Apprentice.

@Indalecio @Appirinia @Polemarch

I love all of them....

For the sith, both were extremely well written. I'm torn. Bandon provides Sith saber training (Juyo is only available with sith training, Vaapad is the Jedi Variant), but Varya provides history and philosophy. Hmm...

I'll say Varya is the canon Omake simply because it's more suitable for a young Anakin who really isn't able to train with a lightsaber, much less a double-saber currently.

That said, for excellent work, I'm awarding 4 Chosen points (including the one I mentioned earlier)

You will find the Jedi Holocron and the Sith Holocron during the upcoming update.

Well done everyone :)

Results of OMakes: +4 Chosen Points, Gained Jedi Holocron, Gained Sith Holocron.

It's unlikely Anakin will learn more than a few of those abilities before TPM and it won't be overtly strong.

Mainly Jedi philosophy and some meditation precog.

All else was useless, lesser skills that were sure to be preserved by lesser Sith.

This is the best quote for Varya since I wrote her as both a weak duelist and weak in the Force. All she has going is her mind, her hunger for knowledge and the will to see her ambition through irregardless of who gets killed or how much pain she goes through.

edit: Also Darth Bandon sounds like an overconfident ass. I love him!
edit2: Also I propose that since we have 7 Chosen Points we pick the upcoming turn both,

[] Teras Kasi Master: One of the janitors of your home is an elderly woman who's stern glance could kill a rancor. She apparently thinks you're a weaking and offered to teach you the teras kasi martial arts style.(3 Points)
[] Faster Learner (4 Points): You gain Perk Points at double the rate. (Lvl 1-10: 2 points. Level 11-20:4 Points. Level 31-40: 6 points)

I supposed we should get the perk/chosen thing to allow us to use dark-side or light-side abilities without affecting our karma. that would be most efficient, not to mention us slowly becoming what the force users of old were like, not like sith or Jedi but the OLD, OLD, OLD way from before the republic.

would be funny to do so! not to mention the most rewarding and hardest way possible! BRING IT!
