Star Wars, a Fractured Galaxy - Game Thread

To: Moff Baltzar Vall
From: Emperor Marcus IV

That is an interesting offer, Moff Vall, but we both know it is not one that I can reasonably take. To endorse and then retract my support for a candidate in such quick succession, without any change in external circumstances, before the eyes of every authority in the Empire? The damage such a thing would inflict on already unstable institutions would be beyond measure.

Still, you speak of a desire for diplomatic solutions, and we are not as yet formally engaged in hostilities. Thus, let us speak as once we did, Emperor and Moff. I would value your counsel.

My original intent had been merely to lend sufficient force to Moff Murali that Moff Rhysode's ill-considered ambitions would be swiftly crushed. The Executor would be reclaimed, Contessa Rhysode would be placed under my protection as a Guest of Honour, and the first sparks of an outright war would be stamped out before they could spread. I would then go before the Moffs, explain my actions and repeat my request for a conference upon Imperial Centre, much like the one that you yourself initially championed.

I should like to think that, had events played out as they were intended to, that even you might have approved of my actions.

Alas, fate intervened, and while the engagement could still be considered a technical success, it utterly failed to achieve my goals. A move to stamp out the flames of war instead wound up fanning them ever higher, and in the immediate aftermath every analyst at my disposal agreed on one thing - that lines were being drawn and that any hope of a truly peaceful resolution was dead and gone.

If war is inevitable, then in my eyes it is better that it be ended as swiftly and decisively as possible. If that means violating ancient tradition and getting my own hands dirty, perhaps even risking my own life and station in the process, then so be it. I would prefer a less ugly solution, and if you can present me with a way to resolve this whole issue without such extreme measures I would take it in a heartbeat... but unless I am gravely mistaken, circumstances beyond the control of even an Emperor have rendered such a thing impossible.

Do you disagree, Moff Vall?

To: Marcus Pallopides
From: Moff Baltzar Vall

You speak much of your intentions, your mistakes and what you cannot do. Of what bearing is this now? If you desire my counsel, perhaps you should've asked for it before you made such a foolish decision. Diplomacy, you say? Like Thelstar, you offer fine words but no substance - what exactly can you provide us with now? As you say yourself, the damage is done, and if you are too proud to take responsibility for it then there is little I can say to help you.

And do not play the martyr, Marcus. If you wanted to end the war swiftly and decisively, you have only succeeded in ensuring the opposite. Before it was a war for a position, a spat that has occurred countless times in our history, but with your ill-considered actions you have made it into a fight for so much more. Did you believe the Moffs would just roll over whilst you assumed total control for yourself? If you were too blind to see the gravity of what you were doing then I pity you, but appealing to the tides of fortune is disingenuous; you have only yourself to blame.

My offer stands. It is the only offer you shall receive.

You mistake my intent, Moff Vall, and more than that; you underestimate my resolve. I have no pretensions towards 'total control'; had I such thoughts in mind I would have found some excuse to delay the appointment of a Supreme Commander indefinitely, set the Moffs against one another and eventually assumed power over a mountain of corpses.

Instead I made but one appointment; had your concern merely been with protocol and tradition, then such a thing could have easily been opposed. Call a conference of your fellow Moffs and convince a sufficient majority that I am forced to back down, find some leverage over my family that could be used to exert control, perhaps even arrange an unfortunate accident for Thelstar and insist on a more traditional method of choosing his successor. All of these methods and more would suffice to check my power and achieve your ends without weakening the overall fabric of the Empire, but instead you move towards outright war.

If you would not have me play the martyr, Baltzar, then have the decency to cast aside your own pretensions first. And if despite it all you are determined to see this through, then so be it - we shall meet upon the battlefield, and let the dice fall where they may.

From: Hsskor Dominion
To: Nearby Independent Worlds @Sidheach
Private

To the leaders of those nearby systems, the Hsskor Dominion has long maintained its independence from any greater powers, as have your own systems and worlds, however independence does not and should not mean lack of diplomatic or economic ties. The times now are troubled in many ways and history speaks to how the many sentients of the galaxy can suffer due to a galaxy caught up in so many conflicts, the longer the last and the more worlds are conquered and reconquered as one polity and then another seeks control over them. This not only affects those worlds who so exchange hands, but the many worlds who trade with them, and the worlds who trade with them, and so on.

Of course we know you will all be fully aware of our own potential benefit from such galactic war, and it is true that as providers of mercenary soldiers and fleets the Hsskor Dominion stands much to gain from such conflicts.... but also much to lose. Our economy is not, as no economy can be, totally based on mercenary contracts. We now as ever trade with many systems around the galaxy and sell our goods in many markets, and as much as we gain from wars we sometimes lose just as much, if not more. We feel as the galactic markets and diplomatic situations change and shift to try and come to terms with the many conflicts that are taking place and no doubt will take place, fostering a close economic relationship with those worlds closest to the Dominion is more important than ever.

We also realize that in these dangerous times all worlds will be looking to shore up their own defenses. Of course, we would be more than happy to provide mercenaries to our neighbors against their aggressors as we have many times before, but we feel we can do more for one another. Firstly we would like to establish deeper diplomatic relationships, and so would like to open embassies with those of you who do not already host such embassies. We also feel we should begin to deepen our economic and trade ties with one another, DoshWorks has many domestic, consumer, and military goods we would be happy to sell to our neighbors and as part of our former request we feel both sides would benefit from establishing more formal and considered trade agreements.

Finally, we would seek an arrangement with any worlds willing that would benefit us both. Despite our great numbers of willing and recruited soldiers, the Dominion is always looking for more capable sentients willing to accept the difficult training and challenging work required of a mercenary, whether in the navy, the army, or in other more specialized fields. As such, we would like to begin more in depth recruitment on the world near to us, to help us bolster our ranks. However, you may ask what you would gain to benefit from this? Firstly, the Dominion is willing to pay for the privilege of opening recruiting departments and offices on your worlds, whether in credits or as more favorable concessions on aforementioned trade deals we hope to work out between us.

We will of course be paying these mercenaries directly of course and as they are natives to your worlds and not ours, much of their credits would find their way back home. Lastly however, is the fact that such recruits are not a permanent addition to the Dominion's armies or navy, as we do not require them to be. The Dominion is highly aware of the nature of mercenaries and mercenary work, and mercenaries trained to the professional and high military standards of the Dominion need only serve in Dominion armed mercenary forces for the limits of their own personal contracts, which usually vary on a case by case basis but generally last a few years. Once they have finished their contract, and with full pay and their share of the contract percentages, all such mercenaries are free to return back to their worlds of origin and bring their hard earned skills and experience back with them. Dominion Mercenaries pride themselves on being at least the equal of any standing army in the Galaxy, and the breadth of training, both military and otherwise, as well as the breadth of experience one can earn serving with the Dominion will not only benefit those individuals, but the worlds and societies to which they will return home. Many former Dominion mercenaries who are not Dominion citizens end up joining the military of their home systems and give the benefit of all their experience and training not only in their own personal service but in their ability to train others.

We feel that these are all offers which will benefit each and every world near to the Dominion as much if not more than the Dominion itself, and we wait to hear the reply of those near to us who wish to take us up on any or all of our suggestions. We would like to stress that none of these offers are contingent on any of the others, and those worlds who wish to take any of them up are not pressured to accept any deals or agreements they are not comfortable with simply to procure such agreements as they may find beneficial.

Thank you for your time and your consideration,

-Clandosh Virilak Hazar Sulvoss

You do not have the power to appoint a Supreme Commander in any circumstances - the Moffs choose, you acquiesce.

It is probably a shame you did not pursue that course of action then, Marcus, because in that case you have only accidentally overturned the constitution of the Empire, threatened the position of the Moffs and overextended your power. You talk almost in riddles - if you refuse to withdraw your appointment now, then why am I to waste time and energy on conferences and protestations? If I only use the approved means of opposing your decision, I am afraid it is not much of an opposition.

You have forced us into action, Marcus, and no amount of choreographed speeches or rhetorical flourish will save you now.

Kingdom of Greater Tion
Turn 3

Ruler: Queen Lecille Durron, Chief Adjudicator , Grand-Master of the Knights of Tion

A young but ambitious women, the queen has spent her years training as all members of the Durron line do, in politics, strategy and the force. The poisoning of her brother and subsequent detonation of the ambulance carrying the previous ruler of the Kingdom are purely incidental and in no way have been linked to her, despite contenders to the throne making the best effort before "evidence" linking them to the assassins was conveniently located.
Heir: WIP
Royal Family:

  • King Canderous Durron a.91, death from "Heart Attack"
    • King Riess Durron a.24, death from poison/explosion
    • Queen Lecille Durron a.21, married Prince-Consort Adriac Drommel-Szbłaza. a.20

  • Various Branches of the family.

Navy: 21 Fleets

The Tie-Crusader, newest model produced by our friends in Sienar Fleet Systems

Formed by the Founder-King, Kyp Durron on his victory against the CSA hordes at Dellart, the Kingdom of Greater Tion has gone through many names, its borders in flux, but always comes back to its power being concentrated in House Durron and the Tion Cluster. Recent events have been a small skirmish to run off a syndicate of criminals before they could seize control of a beneficially neutral Columex and a recent change in leadership.

Internal Events @Sidheach
- The Knights continue their policing efforts, expanding their reach into the outer planets to the north and east to aid our allies in the Aquatic orders and to show the benefits of being under our protection to unaligned planets.
- Fortification of the strategic Lianna System continues as always.
- The usual pleasantries to keep the aristocrats in line and the lower classes entertained.
-A Permanent bounty is continued on the Wandering Sons, labelled as terrorists and ne'er do wells.
- The Knights Praxeum on Ossus continues its construction, the local inhabitants recruited from thanks to their high force sensitivity and unusual disciplines. They will be considered an asset by the Order. The Planet of Ossus is officially claimed by Greater Tion, where technology might be used to improve the locals quality of life and aid the slow terra-forming process.
-Greater Tion continues its part in the Northern League, a collection of smaller powers joining their influence together to remain independent.

Diplomacy
From: Queen Lecille Durron
To: Whomever it might concern

Let it be known i am looking for a consort to sit beside me as i rule my people and bind ours closer together within the galactic community in jolly cooperation.

From: Lyane Paramexor, Lady Castellan of the Northwest March
To: Moffs and Governors of Ord Mirit; Noquivzor, Borleias, and Vakkar

I bid you all Dark Greetings.

And now that we have that out of the way, you all have a very simple choice to make. You can side with me, and not have your fleets and soldiers dragged south to die fighting Thelstar or Vall.

Or you can ally with Moff Solusar, piss your forces away trying to press his claim against half the Moffs in the Empire, and also I personally will try very hard to burn as many of your holdings as I can.

The choice is yours.

General Announcement To The Galaxy
I, Lady Castellan of the Northwest March, hereby declare Moff Solusar of Palanhi to be engaged in High Treason against the Empire. All shipping and commercial activity within Incarnadine Sector shall be assumed to be in support of said treason, and will be subject to seizure by leal forces.

Failure to comply shall be punishable by lethal force.

To:
That Insufferable Cur Solusar and His Sorcerer-Catamite @Sidheach

Run away now and I'll give you both a week's head start before I place the Bounty Hunter's Guild on retainer to bring me your skulls, which I intend to gift to my great-grandchildren to use as chamber pots.
