Springtime of Nations: A German Republic Quest

The limits of our ambition for annexations are, AFAICT, the borders of the old Confederation, so Austria and Bohemia, but no part of what is currently Denmark (we've put our toes a bit over the Confederation borders in Schleswig, but what's a few square kilometers between friends?), or Poland, or any of the old Prussian territories annexed by Russia or Poland.

Poland's yoke ought to be smashed, but that is another matter entirely.
I don't think the old Confederation is relevant tbh? Its a question of self-determination of the people. If Austria wants to remain a separate polity that's entirely fine. I would prefer unification but that's a decision the people have to make. Not allowing Prussian territory to join us because of some old border seems misguided tbh. If they would prefer to be independent or part of a Free Poland or even Russia that would be fine too.

Clandestinely nothing. CV are in government, part of their program is setting up a school for revolutionaries in Germany.

While I think essentially everyone is in favour of exporting [socialism/communism/anarchism/what-have-you], doing so with deniability is important for our long-term goals.

It's one thing for a bunch of nations to decide to have leftist movements that may-or-may not be supported by Germany. It's an entirely different thing for Germany to be actively and publicly destabilizing its neighbours. The latter is a clear and existential threat to basically every other European nation given enough time, and could tip the scales in favour of everyone joining together and kicking Germany's shit in. If we can reduce the apparent threat of what we're doing and introduce doubt, it's far more likely that France/Britain won't team up with the Austro-Russian alliance, which in turn means that the balance is on the side of "let's not try invading Germany on our own". We want to influence as many nations before the collective European leadership catches on and decides to do something about it.

It'd have to be plausible, if socialist and only socialist rebels are being heavily funded and foreign weapons coming in, then everyone is going to pretty much think it was the only socialist nation who is not being particularly shy about how they feel about anyone not socialist.

If we break the Austrian Empire I think Austria proper would probably want to join up with us, assuming we aren't marching through its cities in the first place. Vienna's a city built off the back of resources provided by an empire. It can't support itself off a smaller country. I'd like it if Czechia joined. That way we get access to its industry, resources, and a nice borders. We can switch our name to the Central European Socialist Republic. :p

Getting a name change through a popular vote and steadily de emphasizing german nationalism would be a good mid to long term goal.
We have to keep in mind foreign policy. Naming ourselves "Central European Socialist Republic" can be...uh concerning for our other central European neighbours.

We should only do that after we liberate them from reaction.

The RSFSR didn't become the USSR until it had SSRs to aggregate with. I don't see why we would approach this any differently.

So I am new to this quest and I just skipped over the german civil war because I wasn't interested in reading about Germans killing each other due to them failing to work together or comprise with each other before it started. Basically did anything super important happen other then some parties losing and some winning? Should I go back and read it?

You were just one of those germans off to an expedition to the north pole or somewhere remote and just got back right as the civil war concluded.

I just realized something

Guys I don't think the American civil War is going to end out how it did OTL

Because 10% of the Union Army was made out of German American immigrants from this time period

We did in fact send volunteers to the ACW, though, and several veterans of that conflict fought in our own civil war, including historical figures like Edward S. Salomon (who in this timeline was a volunteer who returned to Germany, rather than an immigrant who naturalized to the US).

It was also mentioned that Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and William H Seward were successfully assassinated. Rumors abounded in universe of the assassins getting foreign funding. Franco-American and Anglo-American relations substantially cooled afterwards, though I'm not sure where they're at now.

The main thing would actually be breaking the stranglehold of the plantation owners, for example by forcing them to give up their land and distributing it to their freed slaves. Political power comes first from economic power.

I think I figured out a plan where everyone can give their support.

We build pacifist parties all over europe.

We go ahead and help build as many socialist and jacobin parties who will be the core of opposition to imperialist wars in other plans and we also help build pacifism as the big tent coalition.

We decrease wars overall and when the imperial powers finally lose patience and repress the movement, the socialist and jacobin parties will have a new influx of radicalized members for a war of liberation.

All our sister parties are already on board with opposing imperialist war. "Do you really want to die for capitalism" is going to be one of our core arguments in the future. Not sure it should involve us astroturfing non communist peace movements though.
