Bah, the Frenchie won. Okay, well, time to work with that.

Was being a little weak in the knees in front of a new teacher normal?
Probably, if not necessarily for the reasons you are.

It was there, crouched down with your ass in a seatbelt-webbing sling and your right arm pressed against the turret ring while your left was accomidating itself around the recoil guard and the turret crank, that you then learned what the next step was going to be after a water break.
accommodating

Also, only so much you can do with an iffy platform to begin with...

The cardboard… you could probably re-use the cardboard. It was clean enough. Unfortunately.
Ah, we're still in the "actually cannot hit the broadside of a barn" stage.

"Showers, then food." Cerdan said, grinning. Fortunately, there was in fact a field shower, as well as a giant cart full of fresh coveralls. "Trust me, you'll never taste it through the tank in your mouths."
That just means they're not tired enough that they need sustenance first over everything.

With the tanks we have, it doesn't really matter if we have bad gunnery, nothing's going to pen at any range anyway. :p
Instead, we can crutch by focusing Driving and just using terrain and maneuver to get into point blank range and roll dice. (Also if you roll your tank before seeing the enemy, your gunnery also didn't matter.)

Similarly, we're also so bad that intelligence doesn't matter and winning exhibition matches isn't -that- important right now. Just train until things do matter.

More intel is best intel.

For those wondering how small our tanks are here's a pair of pictures of an American FT from my local park. The close up one is eye level from me standing on the concrete pad and I'm around the same height as our protaganist so that's the turret ring.

I told you the Fr*nch was a mistake. I told you.

Not helped by the fact Cerdan is the single deadliest tanker from that whole vote with the most expensive tank and will drag you up to her standards kicking and screaming...

"The world was made by people smaller than you."

Doesn't help these are eighty year old chassis either.

Bold assumption, that. Take a look back at what I wrote, then look at the Wikipedia page again. Notice any discrepancies?

Very interesting quest.

Train, train and more training! You want to make a good debut in the first match, after all.

That's not an assumption. Your own character even said that even the Hotchkiss 25mm is not great at too long a range. :p I'm obviously being a little hyperbolic, since of course Gunnery technically still has value with a potato gun if you are somehow good enough to deliberately knock treads off and the like.

Yeah I was confused for a little while too until I actually saw that the 25mm was going to be put into an FT alongside the 47 that where on Chars and souma's.

If my reading holds out, it was depending on a turret rebuild which honestly never happened. Since in this universe tanks don't die so much as get shuffled off to inner-city elementary kids, the turret upgrade happened.

Part of the problem is the information that's delivered in character is, in fact, in character. As the Hotchkiss is a Caliber 1 +1, it blows chunks past 300 yards, but that's still miles better than your SA 18 guns (caliber 1, automatic breech) that top out F 150 yards and the "you madlad" option I'm not letting you take right now, your Dushkas (Caliber 0, machine gun).

There is admittedly a very tiny part of me that wants to kit a single IFV as a scout/trollwagon with as many HMGs as can fit and create something that's a legitimate threat if it can flank and fish for magic.

Hit them. No distractions, no diversions, no bells and whistles. Just. Hit. Them.
A tank could literally be an oversized stationary cannon, and it would be enough to (theoretically) win.

It would never work; HMGs can only reliably do damage in adjacent tiles (range band 0) can't load HE (and therefore get garunteed disables) and don't actually get a shot at getting lucky (no multiple rolls unlike some other systems). Mostly they exist to be a number for tanks that require more daka to not die, beat off armored cars, and encourage people to stay right the fuck away from a ram. A caliber 1 autocannon like a Okilieron might have more luck, but honestly most things under caliber 2 have a hard time pressuring things.

Sadness. The system doesn't allow for carrying multiple guns to get more rolls to simulate the third point?

It does, but one person means one dice roll. You can buy sponsons or additional turrets, but the weight penalty gets absurd very quickly since the additional gun and crew member or members count against you. Half the reason the Maus still has its coaxial 75 in this system is so that they've got a second shot ready while the crew chug another round up to the 128- and the people who go from a .30 cal spotting gun to a .50 cal coax have the same logic.

Hmm. Surely the weight penalty would be offset by the fact that this intended Lethal Joke platform doesn't have a main gun, rotating turret, and all the heavy main gun caliber ammo?

If OPFOR has an overpowered terrain perk I want to hear about before the match instead of after. Winning (or losing not quite as badly) strikes me as better than a chance of perk.

No, because that's not how the Weight rules work. Even if you have negative Weight and therefore 30+ concealment, you still loose concealment while moving and considering how much of final concealment is based on distance, you're not overcoming that to make Yo Wa Shock your theme music.

Practically this is a decision to make the game simpler to run for the GM, since playing the early match vision game is going to be the single hardest part of the game to run; especially if the players have a theoretical information advantage. I say theoretical because like it as not the GM's side has an absolute information advantage, and I don't want to pressure them with it when it comes to keeping the enemy behavior honest.

We're early in the quest. This is a permanent improvement, the opposition research is presumably only useful immediately.

[X] Coordination (Grants one random Leadership perk)
[X] Driving (grants one random Drive perk)

Any of these might be fine. Terrain perks might not apply in every fight (an urban warfare perk isn't useful if we're fighting in a forest, for instance), so I'm approval voting for everything else.

Listen, just whatever you do don't put Toyopet parts in an AMC system or you'll erode causality and your tank will shrink three sizes in the wash.
".....Chika, how did you even get our tank into the washing machine?"
"I don't know!" :D
Later, that was the exact moment you identified where everything started in on a rather quick jaunt vaguely downwards, right to hell.
What are you talkin about, you whiner? 8 is sleeping in! I used to have to get up at 5:15 so I could be the first guy to report to the company that we were all alive and kicking at 5:45. And then we get dressed for an hour and a half of PT!

150 yards? At that point you're better off just putting me on the roof with a scoped rifle and telling me to go for the eye slits. I'd be a better shot.

You live or die on your intelligence and your Force multipliers. So we need coordination to get the most out of all of our tanks in our unit, and we need some Intel because walking in blind means walking out dead. And you can put together some pretty good intelligence from open source stuff, because some people just do not know what opsec means.

I'm something like 95% sure we're going to suck ass this match, regardless of how good our intel is.
Why are we going for intel when we could be going for longer-term knowledge?
