Sport Tanks and the Shangri-La

....if you look at the end of the latest update, we are given voting options in three categories - General Strategy, our Driver's actions, and our Commander actions. Voting for this update will, therefore, consist of three selections - one from each of those.

Please take the time to read.
Thanks for the heads up. I was under the impression that write ins were allowed during combat.

Edit:
[X] Plan: Disappoint Sensei
-[X] Fan out a little
-[X] Spot for tanks
-[X] Radio check to communicate
--[X] "Alright everyone, keep a sharp eye out for the enemy. We're basically just gonna sit around until they show up, then light 'em up! Don't fire until you have orders or are being fired upon."

Correct me if I am wrong, but the designated correct format is "vote on 'Stick together/Fan out a little/Spread out a lot,' then say what your command tank is doing," yes?

Yes. You can also lump it together into one large plan; I won't mind that.

Is this the correct formatting to use? If not, could you please point me to the post on how to format votes?

No, and also no. This isn't something there should be a post for, this should be you reading from the options and selecting one. Write-in votes outside designated areas are ignored.

[X] Plan the Tree's say Oui
-[X] Fan out a little
-[X] Drive to tile N-14-7
-[X] Radio check to communicate
--[X] Okay we're moving out follow me. When we get to our point spread out a little I want a full 360 watch also be on the look out for the other team the whole time report it in if you see them.

This is my plan no I couldn't come up with a none joke name trust me this is the least bad.
So basic idea is use our tanks small size to our advantage and settle into the forest to hide our forces and provide cover from incoming fire while also having everyone watch out for the other team and to call them out for us.

EDIT: edit done to fix Coordinate misreading.

I feel like I'm misunderstanding the coordinate system somehow in some obvious way. For instance, where is n-21-20 for coyote's plan?

Imgur Link shows how I'm trying to find it, but 21 on the left and 20 on the right don't meet N in the same place.

In general, aren't the first two coordinates sufficient to uniquely identify every point? Also, how exactly are coordinates near the top edge referred to? Take the hex immediately below the letter U: if I understand the note about negative numbers correctly, that would be referred to as U-0-0, which is also how a number of squares immediately below it would be referred to. Intuitively I'd refer to it as U-T-V, or simply U-T since I think you only need two coordinates to uniquely identify a hex.

@7734 Any chance you could clear things up? Thanks.

Okay I think I got my read on how to do the coordinates wrong hang on I'm going to fix it.

[X] Plan Take Initial Terrain
-[X] Fan out a little
-[X] Drive to P-8-3
-[X] Radio check to communicate
--[X] Tank 3, with me Northeast to the center hills. Tank 5, get to tree cover North. The rest, tree cover Southeast.

Self explanatory. Take the center and spot+communicate from there. Get tanks moving to the flanks for now for more information.

I like going to the hills northeast of here near p-9, but I'm a little confused again about that coord. P-9 looks like a hill, but the three would go through the mountain one tile north of that. Hilly Forest/Jungle Hills look preferable to Mountain Pines, which is what I'm guessing the mountain is.

As much as I'd like to do fancy flanking and spreading out, I'm worried about us getting defeated in detail - I'm kinda assuming we suck and various spread out tanks might get snuck up on or otherwise disabled without getting to communicate or shoot back. Maybe after we've got an idea of where the enemies are.

Hills should be good because the range on caliber 1 guns is kinda bad (though less so with the ones with +1), so the extra range band from hills is a large proportionate increase.

I'm inclined to just take some decent terrain right away and then start spotting. We'll look kinda dumb if the enemy is in immediate range already and we don't see them, but getting to the good terrain first has some advantages.

We also need to only drive 4 tiles a turn to stay within cruise speed - I think P-9 exceeds that for us.

[X] Plan Sit on a Hill
-[X] Stick together
-[X] Drive to O-7-1
-[X] Radio check to communicate
--[X] Everybody, with me! We're going to circle up on those wooded hills to the northeast.

The coordinate system is not great, and the problem you described is both real and one I need to figure out a solution for. When I get that figured out, I'll share and update everything to the new standard.

Imgur Link This is roughly what I'd suggest, if that makes sense. I believe every tile would have a unique, two dimensional identifier that way - it's basically what you're doing, but:

a) drop the third coordinate
b) if going up and left goes through the top, instead of using 0, just use whatever letter the line goes through at the top. So the tile immediately below the letter F on our match map is F-D, the tile below that is F-B, then F-1.

It's a little weird having adjacent tiles not have sequential letters, but whatever.

Obviously, up to you, but I thought I'd toss this out there.

No, I just goofed because I got crosseyed tracking out the coordinates left. It should've been P-8-3. I wanted the mixed hill+forest. Fixing it, thanks.

The problem is I think our tanks just aren't any good either. You're probably not going to win a head to head with these guns and armor, so I'd rather try to at least have an option to do something (also giving more angles to spot and flank from).

General Strategy
[X] Fan out a little

Your Actions
Driver
[X] Drive to tile xyz
-[X] R-5-2

Commander
[X] Spot for tanks

I think the opposing team is around R-1 and don't want them to creep onto the hills and plink at our team. If they aren't to the north the hills are still a more central spot to wait at and perform hair-brained ambush tactics.

Will our team know what to do if we don't radio? I'm a little worried about what they'll do if we just start driving off without saying anything, though hopefully they'd follow.

Edit: maybe we're in range to just shout at our squad.

It's the first match and there's nothing depicted about automatic strategies or defaults. We have no idea what they'll do without prior comms...

We can yell at them after if they don't follow. I really don't want to drive right into the other team and have just a little hope that when the commander tank moves the others will follow.

(Presumably we bark out a word or two over the comms for general strategy.)

Reminder you only need to make a Radio check when not in visual contact.

Oh no, you have to have faith in your fellow players system approximations to have good sense. How traumatic.

Alright, with the communication thing cleared up, I'm going to consolidate behind kellogo's plan. I'm pretty happy with anything that involves driving up to those hills together.

[X] kelllogo's Plan

Edit: can we assume our tanks start loaded? That is, we get to shoot once before we need to reload?

Yep. Since your plan called for Cruise speed, and that doesn't make the check by more than 6 (6 vs 14) Bad Things now happen. Let's roll them bones!

Dice say 2; that's a knock to your transmission. Ouch...
