So You Woke Up in a Room.

Makes sense. I'm Nirkuhiib the Wormy Waste Gobbo full title, Just Hiib for the ones who want to be friendly. Although i doubt i could effective at discussing surface maps, our city is mostly underground built in the tunnels and the old nesting site of the Earth Warden.

And at that he breaks away from his previous conversation partner.

"Wait does that mean displays of magic will get this place to attack us?
And it would be nice if you described what's behind the safe doors. I'll fill in the sleepy ones later."
"Well," Galen began, "We've only seen what's through three of the safe doors. This one," He pointed to one with what looked like grass etched into the stone, "Leads to a field. That one," He pointed to another door, this one with a tree. "Leads to a forest of some kind. The final one," He pointed to a door with a water droplet, "Leads to a beach." Including the skull leading to some kind of death forest, that made 4 doors. There were eight in total. The others had a crack of some kind as its symbol, another had a tree in water, another still had a mountain, and the final one looked like it had an angel with its hands clasped in prayer..

Srax let the conversation flow around him as he focused on disentangling his fishing gear from the rest, taking the opportunity to check the inventory (and entirely missing the mounting horror of the goblin). While whatever had brought them here had preserved the bare necessities, he'd lost most everything else. Medical supplies, to start. A lot of his mining gear. Tools and holdout weapons. His hunting bow.

At least most of the general camping gear was there, along with Ol' Chippy. He really needed to replace that poor knife. Thing was almost as old as he was, and it showed. He strapped the beaten thing, sheath and all, beneath one of the roomier armor plates.

Finally having sorted the lures and hooks back into their compartments, he stood back up and returned his attention to the group. His hands are busy spooling the line back into place, but he's so used to the motions that it's easy enough to multitask.

At least, it should be.

"Any - hmf," Srax drops the spool as he replies. "Anyone else have survival gear? Half of mine's gone. If one of those doors doesn't open to a town, we'll need it."

(OOC: Survival is a skill, so I assume the subject is cogent, but I'm not sure how much of it is handwaved this early on for the sake of expediency.)

Takeo knocked at the doors, trying to feel the very materials they were made of. He had no particular reason to do this, just that he was bored. He looked at the symbol on the door above. The symbol was an angel with its hands clasped in prayer, which intrigued Takeo as to what lies beyond.

Determined to take a peek inside, Takeo reached his hand for the handle only to stop a second later, remembering the door with the skull symbol. 'Should I?'

He decided to open it anyway, seeing the angel is less dangerous than a bloody skull.

(Doors are locked until everyone wakes up. I'd also like to make a note that come tomorrow, the 'no-show' rule takes effect and the remaining player characters will be awoken by via a relatively generic wake up sequence.)

To his disappointment and relief, Takeo found the door locked. With nothing else to do, he decided to meditate.

Melinoe's eyelids fluttered, then snapped open.

She sat silently upright, her gaze fixed on the unkempt figure who had climbed next to her resting place.

She spoke, her voice the sigh of a breeze wending down an avenue of cypresses.

"Who are you and what are you trying to do with me?"
"Easy there. Just trying to get you upright."
I backed up as far as the slab would let me and held out my hand. The dame on the slab wasn't the kind of girl that usually gets called a doll, I could tell that much, but there couldn't have been a better word out there to describe her. She looked like she was made of porcelain and dusted in lead powder. She had a face that looked handcrafted by some geezer in a dusty workshop, eyes like glass and ink. She had the kind of voice I'd long since associated with the kind of dame that'll wind up making me do something I'd regret later, but it came from a mouth that never seemed quite real.

"Myton Ailbhinn. You know where we are right now?"

Johnny-on-the-spot from the other slab had gone and joined the others now. Figured he'd gone on to try and puzzle this out. Not a lot of chance of that just yet. If any of us knew, there was nothing to make 'em tell.

"So we choose were to go and the final destination will be the skull door?
Reminds me of the earth warden tunnels, some lead to valuable ore but eventually you'll run into the big earth eater if you follow deep enough.

I vote we go to the mountainy area once everyone is up and about."

"Any - hmf," Srax drops the spool as he replies. "Anyone else have survival gear? Half of mine's gone. If one of those doors doesn't open to a town, we'll need it."

I got tools, if anything needs to be fixed, sharpened or machined into a part i can do that, just not that great for foraging. I can often survive on earthworms and fungus though.

Oh, wow, that's amazing. That crow was sleeping in one of the platforms. At first I thought it was a sleeping harpy but now I can see it. It's a real crow. Probably a sentient crow if he was here with us? I had no idea. I tried to call his attention.

-Hey! Um... Crow? Are you a mage familiar or something? Do you understand me?- If he was just an animal I'm probably going to look stupid doing this, but if not... It was just too interesting.
Connie cocked her head, then gave a slightly annoyed caw as she tilted and nearly went ramming into the ground at the ill-advised movement. Damnit, where was all her usual gear? Her AR goggles would've helped her avoid looking stupid and her actual harness would've helped with the motion adjustments... she gave her pup a big shake and dropped to the ground, letting him go just as he got awake enough to make the landing and settling down beside him.

Then, looking at the person who had addressed her, she considered. He'd called her a mages' familiar, which... was somewhat odd. Maybe he meant an Adepts' linked critter? But that wasn't too common a path for Adepts to take and it didn't allow for the granting of sapience, nor linking with Awakened animals. Perhaps he was referring to her as a spirit? But that didn't really match either... she gave a slight rustle of feathers and cracked her beak open. "I understand," she replied, her voice guttural but feminine, "And no, not a familiar. I'm Connie. This big wolfdog right here is Sunker. Don't have any more idea how I got here than the rest of you do, either.... hrm. "

I ignored everything else. Even the goblin talking to other people. They looked strong, if it tried to do something they could stop it. I had something more important to focus on.

-Fascinating...- She (At least I think it was a she) didn't feel like a spirit or something. It was just... a crow. A big sapient crow. Not even a familiar.

-We don't have anything like you where I'm from. Well, we tried, some powerful mages always try to create a new species but almost never works. It's just... oh, I'm sorry. My name is Luxord Aegis. I got a little carried away.- I smiled at the crow. I wanted to check everything about her to see how she was different to other crows but that probably was bad manners when dealing with someone sapient. Then I looked at the dog. That little detail was weird. Does the crow have a pet? Or maybe...

-Is the dog sentient too?-

Connie ruffled her feathers, letting their shine slide up and down as she adjusted them around her neck with a bit of stretching. "No, I'm afraid, Sunker is just my big old dog. I've never actually heard of people, even mages, creating entirely new sapient species. Mages and scientists modifying old ones into a new one, yes, but where I'm from magic and sapience is a mystery. I'm something of a uniquity - there are other crows of my kind, but not sapient. There are some species of dolphin and whale that are born sapient, and with magic. Even an entire civilization of snakes, and you get rare animals born not only sapient but able to shapeshift into metahuman form. I never got to talk to the water-bound ones, not my kind of feather and all."

-Now I'm totally sure, my feathered friend, that we are not from the same world. If what you are telling me is true our magic isn't the same. We don't have sapient animals other than subhumans. The closer to sentient animals we have are goblins and kobolds, but not the same...-

I started looking around. People were still confused about what was happening. I was too but confusion doesn't lead to anything good.

-Seems that we all need to find home... we should work together...- I looked around. Some where talking with the goblin. He was even acting like a human.

He was from another world... maybe their goblins are different? I need more data before making any kind of decision.

-Where I'm from subhumans are our enemies... be careful. If you see anything suspicious tell me.-

And here I was offering an alliance to a talking crow. It could be worse.

After saying that I looked at everyone else talking about where to go. I would like to not be surrounded by subhumans where my magic is low but they probably where my best chance at survival, even if an alliance with them is a huge risk.

"Well," Galen began, "We've only seen what's through three of the safe doors. This one," He pointed to one with what looked like grass etched into the stone, "Leads to a field. -The first thing we should do is find a good place to make a base. We are going to need water and food at some point soon. Probably in the forest. Someone with more survival skills than me should make the call but that's our first priority before finding home.-

(It's been two days, @Mina. I have to get this thing moving, so I'm waking your character up. Sorry.)
A groaning came from the final sleeping individual in the room. The centaur woke up to the sounds all around her. As she realized where she was, she slipped off her tablet and landed on the ground ready. Her glaive in her hands, she looked around apprehensively.

"And like that, we're all up and about." Galen said under his breath. "Everyone, stay away from the doors. For all we know, the 'safe' ones could hold dangers all their own." Not a second later did hefty sounds emanate from all the doors around the room. They were unlocked. "Now then, I recommend you all wait a few moments before venturing out anywhere; this place has...custodians of a sort, though they only come out a few moments after everyone is awakened."

Connie tilted her head, her primaries leaning back as she considered his terminology. Subhumans, huh? Yet he had no anger or disgust towards her. Perhaps merely an inherent bias towards specific types of Awakened sapients rather than disdain for all non-humans or non-metahumans?

She lifted a leg and ran her claws gently through Sunkers' fur, giving a slight whistle that had the wolf laying itself out and taking deep breaths. He'd keep a nose out for any danger.

"I'll assist where assistance is prudent," she neutrally responded, tilting her head the other way and letting her lore feathers twitch, giving her eyes the impression of a narrow smirk. Always difficult, translating her body language and facial expressions for humans, but well worth the effort and training.

Ha, the crow talks. Obviously a mutate not just a big old crow. I'll try not to rub it in the scruffy guy's face.

"Are they dangerous?" A lot of us were stilldisoriented and I'm not sure how well we'd do in a fight.

"They haven't harmed us. In fact they...it's hard to explain." Rupert stated. "Just...try not to hit them. I don't know how durable they are or if they have armaments, but it would be best not to test our luck."

"Easy there. Just trying to get you upright."

Melinoe took the hard, calloused hand graciously.

"Thank you, son of stone," she said. "You may call me Melinoe." Her voice made the final syllable of her name a chorus of sighs.

She looked upon the dwarf. He was akin to her, in a very distant sense - a creature of the depths, birthed from the womb of the earth. But a fog of pipeweed-smoke and liquor overlay his strong, honest scent of iron and stone. It held the sour smell of disappointment, a tang like milk curds left in the sun, and the acrid burning of hope turned to ashes.

A hard life, hard lived. And yet the gentleness in his grip, the care in his eye.

She owed him an answer, at least, for that. "... I know not. The last I remember was the sweet dregs of a krater of mushroom wine, watered in equal measure."

"And now, perhaps, we may find the beginnings of an answer to our questions."

Melinoe slid to the floor like a wisp of smoke and watched the old man closely. "This venerable master seems to know more than we, at least."

(I don't think taking over other players characters for interaction is the best way to go, but I'll leave the consequences to be between you and the Melinoe's player.)

I looked at the doors. It was time to start moving. The last group was nearly wiped out, they probably were like us. A group of strangers that find themselves in a strange room. A situation like this one needs a team that works together. I worked before with subhumans but not with Elves and Dwarves, and of course not goblins.

Maybe this was the only way.

I decided to grab everyone's attention. If we wanted to survive we needed to work as a team.

-Everyone. Listen to me.- I decided to stand in the center of the group so everyone could hear me.

-We are in a strange place and we all want to go home. If we don't work as a team we are going to end like the last group, so we need to do this right.-

I looked at them. My eyes sparkling with a little bit of my weakened magic. It always worked with recruits, it made me look more powerful even if I was doing nothing.

-I'm Luxord Aegis. In my world I was general of the human empire and the most powerful mage. My magic is now weakened but I will work to recover all my power. We should all know what are our strengths so we can know who needs to do each task. This way we can succeed where others have failed.-

And now... the moment of truth. These people needed guidance. Even the subhumans. Prideful and uncooperative creatures but maybe these ones were sane enough to accept this arrangement.

-I will be the leader. Someone has to. My experience in the higher ranks of the military makes me the most appropriate candidate to that position unless someone has a better idea. Our priority should be organization so we can work together.-

Connie immediately shakes her head. "Don't have anything against you mate," I says, "but there's a reason I became a Shadowrunner, and it wasn't to join a little mini army."

Arawyn Cu Chulainn

"Bite me arse, laddie," Arawyn mocked, a rather ugly smile on his face. "Who died an called ye king? Ye ain't old enough to lick me boots, much less order me 'round. What are ye, sixteen?"

Lysyris looked at him with a slightly confused look on her face. "Why should I be listening to you? I mean, I barely even know you and we just met a like ten minutes ago."

Srax snorts, a condescending noise caught between exasperation and amusement.

"We don't need a chain of command," he retorts, finally getting the line spooled up properly and putting it away, "just basic cooperation, if that - and don't think I missed that you tried to install yourself at the top."

Finally done with his equipment, Srax shouldered the pack, straightened to his full height, and looked Luxord directly in the eyes. Srax's own narrowed somewhat as he noted the spellcraft simmering in them.

"I've no reason to trust your disposition, or your honesty. I'll assist everyone here where I can until we find the locals. That's it."

(OOC: Gonna be occupied for the evening. Don't wait up on me.)

His ears would have perked up at that if they weren't more akin to bone textured sturdy leather than "normal" skin.

"Thingy is an army is much different than a small gang. I vote for either the harpy or black bird to lead. At least for a start.
They can fly, have better awareness of their surroundings, and can see the surrounding area from up high. Blue hair can try to lead if he performs well later.
Also, black bird? We're not a mini army we're just a hang out party and you be the tour guide. :ogles:"

And of course the subhumans are the first to object to my plan. I was going to talk to the crow. The harpies usually don't do well with authority but would follow the group and help. The elf... well, he reacted as expected.

But the kobold... the nerve of that dog. Accusing me of wanting a position of power when I was just trying to help them. To guide them so they can survive.

-What would I win for putting myself in a position of power? Gold? A castle? I just want everyone to survive. I don't think the last group had a leader and look what happened. We need organization, rules! We don't know each other so the only way to be safe is to be organized.-

I was... tense. It's been too long since someone talked to me like that. His accusation stung more than it should. How can a subhuman like him dare to... no, no... I can control my emotions. Relax.

And I relaxed a little.

-You think you can do better? Then go ahead, be the leader. Maybe in your home you where a great general too? The leader of the pack? Or maybe you think you can survive by yourself, you are strong enough to help yourself and help the rest.-

I sighed. I was being too optimistic. Of course the subhumans weren't willing to be lead by the human. Too much pride to chose the safest way to survive.

-You don't question a fisher how he fishes or a bard how he sings. It was my job and I was the best at it. You don't need to know the medic when you are wounded or the cook when you are hungry. We are all in real danger and we should try to trust each other or we will not survive. But if no one is willing to accept I can't force it. I will try to help even if this is not the most efficient way.-

I was never a king, I was a general. My recruits were willing and human. I can't lead a bunch of prideful subhumans. How can they think we can all survive without working together as a group? Maybe they think there is no need for a leader in a group? Then who is going to make quick life or death decisions?

"How about we all take a breath." He said, stepping between the arguing groups. "I agree with fuzzy (@Spook) here that we at least need to work together. Maybe we need a leader but what we need more is a goal... And maybe figure out what each other can do and what our supply situation is like."
