Shapers of the Apocalypse (Cosmic Horror vs. Player Characters)

Was a tally until Joe butchered it.

Simplifying the vote, further edits and math incoming. Doing this on phone so it'll take a bit, just posting this early so you all know I'm working on it.

To the best of my knowledge we have 15 voters, so anything over 7 is enough to earn passage on the expedition. It'd be more complicated if there were more weightings, but as is it was pretty clear.

You have Freeman twice.

Edit: Though they're separate votes, so I suppose there's nothing wrong with that.

I... don't know what to vote for. I'm sure that everything will work out fine whoever we pick! Right lads?

....

Right?

My character is sort of constantly baffled and incompetent, but hopes everything works out for the best, much like me in this quest.
Also I'd change my avatar but it doesn't lend itself well to doing so.

I believe our labrador retaining friend has the gist of it. Our expedition should be seen as a small training exercise, so that aur dear association can get on its feet again after the death of dear founder. Now where is the soda?

I basically agree, but I will laugh so hard were the dice to say:
You will get horror, now!

Why do you want to send a 4 person team rather than sending along all but one person with good charisma and one with good management?

Alright, how many people do we need if things go horribly wrong and what skills do they need? Do we need to give up training Corbyn and fulfilling his ambition because we have no other lawyers?

The answer Is surprisingly simple and straight forward: We don't know. While some skills will doubtlessly crop up more often in some places than others, there's no reason why they still couldn't happen. It's all about hedging your bets, even when you go for the big ones.

The more people we send on an expeditions, the more events they can counter, but some are liable to cause complications themselves, and others may have overlapping skill sets. Plus, there's always the risk that an expedition may take more than a year, leaving us short on key members, should we send them away on an extensive expedition

That doesn't address the difference between keeping two at home and keeping four.

That doesn't address the difference between keeping two at home and keeping four.
Four people are enough to run our organisation. Two are not. Should we need to act without the people who we send on the expedition (whether they are delayed, trapped or dead), we need enough members at home to be able to arrange further expeditions and recruitment.

Edit: another way of looking at it, not necessarily connected to the above response, is sending out a team on xcom when you're short on soldiers. If you have 6 slots and 8 soldiers, do you send out all 6, leaving two at home? Or do you have two teams of four? If you send six and they fail, the two remaining are screwed. No way you can compete a mission with just two people if even a full team can fail.

But if you send just 4, the chances of failure are higher, compared to the more capable team of six. The six might succeed where the four might fail. Or it could be doomed either way.

The difference is, if the expedition doesn't return before the year/turn begins, we'll only have two, or four people to do things with.

Interestingly, several people were near useless this year, for lack of projects they couldperform. In future, we should probably make note of these people, and ear mark them for expeditions, or as major candidates for one of our leadership positions.

The only person who wasn't used this year was Wilhelm, and he'll have a use when we start needing cartography checks.

The number of people doesn't really matter for this, it's only the people who can research and the people with elected positions that count. Plus, it's less likely to take two years if we send a full complement of people.

One guy with charisma is enough to recruit, but if everyone on an expedition is lost our society is done for anyway.

Personally I'm hoping that this will be a much easier choice once the first expedition happens and we know how it works.

Meant to note this before, then I forgot :p, then I remembered again! Kind of topical if we're talking about assignments for our members.

Dealing with the complication -> Corbyn -> Law
Rolled 1d100 + 4d10 - 10 Non-executive = 84 + (3, 6, 4, 9) - 10 = 96
Quickly cleared up

Taking Corbyn off Library Research and keeping him in reserve turned out to be a really good move. In general I think that's probably where we should keep him, in between rewarding him by letting him go on safer expeditions. If we could unlock an executive slot for "Society Counsel", then that'd also be great.

a conditional where he abandons his research if any legal opportunities come up would be nice, I think.
