Shadows of the Past

*shrug*
Good thing about babies, they are a renewable resource.
Looking back at the first chapter I see a lot of geographic name drops to illustrate the size of the empire, and how it, "made gardens of the jungle and tamed the desert," but no real mention of the technology/magic they used. The only thing we know is that metal is incredibly valuable and all attempts at recreating it end in poor results, and that there's a library somewhere with some of the knowledge of the empire.

Going off what we already know, the empire was massive. In light of that, they had to have had an extensive communication and transportation system. Wouldn't it be great if we found a functioning flying machine?

Hey, it's not surprising. Smelting steel is stupidly hard, if you don't have the right technologies.

Takes a ton of iron ore/sand, a ton of precious, precious coal, and many, many brutally exhausting manhours of work. And quality or quantity isn't quite guaranteed either.

And then you still got to forgeweld and then work the lumps into something, with a great risk of cracking too.

And it's all more or less wasted if you don't know how to temper it. Even an amateur eyeballing things would up the performance considerably. Of course it will take a fuckton of tries to get close to 100% perlite, but just condensing the second phase is great.

[x] [Trade] Good Bow
[x] [Main] Healing and Plant Lore
[x] [Main] Social Skills
[x] [Secondary] Learn archery.
[X] [Secondary] Learn how to evade an attack.
[X] [Secondary] Learn how to move silently

See, we won't be a simple shaman, Atl can take care of that. We'll learn and grow and become something more, something greater... So let's make sure we have a good weapon and skill to use it, no?

You actually know how to get to that place of learning. That's Tlamacatzintlihuacan, one end of the trading route passing through the farmers village.

The other end, Zacatltlalmonton, is a trading hub and would be a good place to go if you want to travel to other places, like the Burning Isles.

... Volcanic islands? What, did the empire figure out how to siphon energy out of lava?

It seems there is a tie on your third Secondary. Both knife lessons and sneaking lessons have 7 votes.

Anyone want to break that tie?

I just really hope knife lessons wins. Our entire tribe wants us to stop getting martial lessons and focus entirely on being a shaman, but I don't want to. I'm afraid that if we don't continue knife lessons that our tribe will take that as a sign of defeat.

Edit: Also I just want to improve Knife Fighting in general after we get that new weapon.

I want ranged stuff, not small knives.

:( That skill would eventually translate to swords.

Either way, @Azel, the tie for secondaries is broken although the winners for the main are still the same.

The tribe at large doesn't really care one way or another. It's just that one huntress who seems to be Mahuizohs self-appointed bodyguard and "voluntered" to "train" you.

@Azel, you mentioned bronze and steel, but are there any rarer metals in this world? Also, for bows, are there any rare materials that are sought after to craft them? Like special woods or bones?

[X] [Trade] A good obsidian knife
[X] [Main] Spirit Lore
[X] [Main] Social Skills
[X] [Secondary] Attend the offerings to the spirits.
[X] [Secondary] Learn how to track animals.
[X] [Secondary] Learn how to move silently.

Nothing you are aware off in regards to metal. The large gap in quality and the rarity has many people believing that all metals are magics of the ancestors, with smiths of today turning out only inferior copies of these grand wonders.
Especially steel is often threated as some epic substance that was stolen from the gods.

For bows, you know that the traders have some that are made from special wood that costs a fortune.
