Shadows of the Past

I wonder if it'd be possible to use alchemy on our dagger with a spider fang and poison gland as the ingredients. The gland should instill some concept of the generation of poison, while the fang would primarily be the concept of poisoning whatever it punctures.

If our alchemy skill was high enough to meet the dc's instead of catastrophically failing them, we could get an awesome permanently poisoned dagger.

I think it wouldn't be poisoned per sé, but making the material/metal poisonous by itself. Probably need good gloves, but it possible, this is not a bad idea.

@Duesal Going for the Silver Peccary once our equipment is done wouldn't be bad. What'd be even better is of we could somehow cut down on the total time by combining it with gathering herbs for more Alchemy, we need both the XP and the products.

That's what I'm leaning towards as well, though that might change if a better opportunity comes up in our rumor mill. If there's word of a new dungeon to raid I definitely won't say no to potentially getting another artifact like our golden sun calendar medallion.

But with the Silver Peccary, it has the benefit of not being alone, meaning that after a successful hunt we'd have the Silver Peccary and a lot of normal Peccary hides.

Nah, not metal. I'm almost sure she is making something of the spirit. I just can't get a good idea on what...
I asked Azel earlier and she wanted two legs and one bone plate as her part of the spoils. Maybe she's having masterwork bone daggers or something? Or maybe she's getting the bone incorporating into makeshift armor of her own? I dunno, it's all speculation at this point. We'll find out soon enough.

Just a small thing, @Duesal, the archery training in your post, does it comes from Xochi? Or are we training by ourselves? In this kinds of repetition skills (AKA, martial arts, weapon techs, archery) there comes a limit to how much can be achieved with help, with the rest purely out of training and use... I don't think we got there yet, though.

What if what she's doing isn't battle oriented? I know, she seems like that kind, but there are other nuances... Maybe a symbol of our partnership? A small token to always remember the hunt? It could just be so much G.G

Xochi. We did pay her for training, after all, training which hasn't yet been finished, and by that point she should be healed up. I want to get to the point where we can get her Close Combat Archery trait. We should be able to focus more on it once we finish learning how to read. This on top of the fact that Azel said as her companion it's a lot easier to ask her for more training. :)

Could be, but I think she's more practical than to waste the spoils of a spirit kill on something like that. Yaxkin did note that Xochi would probably try to stab her with it... I'm going to bet on either a masterwork dagger or sword that's been coated with bronze.

Ahh, but that is a bit disingenious, no? Yaxkli has confused alot when watching people, like when she first met Xochi and her companions, or how it was surprising the way Xochi tried to train us... What made a surprise how she jumped literally on the hole to help us. Our little girl is good for plants, animals, and even spirits or artifacts, but hasn't got that good a perception about people.
She could, of course, be right. She already knows more about our companion now. But she could, still, be wrong. We know about nothing of her outside work and childhood dreams. So though Xochi seems like someone who would prefer weapons even as birthgifts, this may not be the truth beneath appearances.

This made me remember that thing about "X talking about Y reveals more about X than about Y".

All too true, but at the same time Xochi just doesn't strike me as the kind of person to waste her spoils that much. There's enjoying a roof over your head and good food and drink, and then there's having the spoils of a spirit battle she barely survived carved into something sentimental rather than forged into something that would help keep her alive. Either way, I have no idea. I can only really guess at this point. I'm still counting on a dagger or sword.

Like I sayd there's just so much she could do! And especially because it's such a harrowing experience that some people prefer a sentimental bauble. The most classic example is the hero's jorney where he just saved a non-combatent friend, and while he uses what he gets for more/better equipment, his friend makes a pair of ring/amulets/what-have-you and gives one to him. Thus, is such a story you get both, no need to choose. But here there is a need to choose, and I higly doubt she will put anything above the bow... Although, now that I think about it, can't she have a real special bow made out of that?

She could, but apparently none of the experts here know how to make a proper warbow. Only longbows. :( Ironically enough, despite how insanely awesome spiritbone is as a crafting material in a master craftsman's hands, Xochi is better off using her old bow.

And doesn't this means the best she could do with her materials, in a purely min maxing way, is spiritbone arrows? We needed smaller things, but her arrows are alot bigger than ours...

Maybe, but likely not. She wanted two legs and an armor plate, and presumably that's what she took as her spoils. The masterwork arrows are made out of the fangs.
[] Have arrows made from the fangs. (Gain 60 Masterwork Bone Arrows)
If they can be made out of the legs then yeah, she might have made arrows, but I have no idea.

Like I sayd, our arrows are very diferent from hers, maybe the fangs are too small for hers. About the armor plate, I think she wen't with the same logic as us, that it would sell better. We know better, now.

Clearly Xochi ordered a bone-carved figurine of Yaxkin slaying the foul monster. In ten years, when we become a world-famous explorer and demon-slayer, this Limited Edition will be sold for thousands of Tlaltepoztli!

Actually, you will be using the same arrows as her with your new bow. They are fundamentally the same, just that longbow arrows need to be longer then those for a regular bow.

I wonder whether it is worth it to go back to exploring the ruins near our tribe at some point, preferably after we have learned how to read.

We left a lot of interesting buildings unexplored, like the Palace, the Serpent's Home or the Temple.

I'd be very interested in poking around the palace myself. Granted, we'd need to keep a careful eye out for the Flesh Moths and anything else that might have set up shop, but yeah. There should be some amazing artifacts in there.

How do you fight flesh moths?

Metal should kill them. The only problem there is that you'd be trying to stab a swarm of flying bugs. It's not possible to get them all unless we have incredible evasion and knife fighting, and even then a bad roll might screw Yaxkin over and end with her infected and doomed. Best to just avoid them entirely. Those things are small and weak, but way more dangerous than they initially seem. Literally the second they touch your flesh they can burrow inside.

That's why I asked - going voluntarily into flesh moth hunting grounds without an option to reliably evade, fight or cure them doesn't sound wise.
