Y'know, when I was doing the hacking minigame, I kinda got the impression I was really good at it when I was consistently filling every single dot before cracking the code with a good 40 or so seconds left, but I figured it was more likely that most people were doing that well. Glad to know that I do, in fact, have a thing I can be smug about. :p

In non-spoiler-related news, the speed with which your party members fall behind you if you don't just rush through the story is still a huge problem. Their plot-locked level-ups and unique powers are nice in theory, but in practice by the final runs my character was an invincible buzzsaw of cyberclawed murder while the other three were basically just along for the ride. Gobbet was regulated to Haste-duty and that was it. Certainly didn't help that Is0bel got bugged like two hours in and lost the ability to mark targets for the rest of the game. Plus the fact that you can only loan items to them for a single mission so you have to re-do their inventories every. Single. Goddamn. Time.
In my run, I definitely didn't have this problem. If you decide not to put points into the skills you're not using for combat but get a good bunch of dialogue options from and go all in on a combat build, yeah, you're gonna be able to break the combat system, but... no shit? And you're missing out on tons of other little advantages if you're not getting those dialogue options so it's not like that build is really any more effective than one with a more narrative bent so unless you actually did manage to just break the combat without going all in on it I'd have to figure that you went all in on becoming a combat monster and are upset that that is exactly what happened.

Speaking of which:
A pure support build might be interesting. A character with no notable combat capabilities at all, or at least no direct ones.
Basically, make a Techno-Shaman. Put all your points into Charisma and Intelligence, and get Conjuring, Summoning and Hacking as skills.
Then you can just take three combat characters as allies on all missions, which should take care of all your combat-related problems. And hey, conjuring and summoning means you can still meaningfully contribute to combat.

Could be. Though, I don't think you'd be able to cover all the roles; just not enough karma for that. Still could fill most though, I think.

i've done it, it's stored as a double instead of byte, and there's a couple of values IIRC but only one is the main value.
Okay, tried it at home. No matter what I do I don't seem to be able to find the values for the heat. Are you sure it's saved as double? Because when I do the first scan, I pick up the initial value, but then I lose the addresses when I try "Increased by value". And yes, I'm searching under Double, not bytes.

Edit: Nvm, tried searching under "Float". Worked like a charm. :)

I have few questions
  1. In rescuing Raymond mission is there a way to access security room in thaumathurgical research floor while retaining access to the mage office?
  2. In stealing the books mission is it possible to reach the last optional objective? I can't seem to find other loot ( I do find the ones hidden behind books)
  3. Reliable Matthew, is it better for me to give him BTL chips or not?

1. Yes, the guards have keys. Just kill them all and loot it off their bodies.

2. Just get the two hidden objects then grab everything worth at least $950.

3. BTLs are basically super addictive psychological drugs. Do you really want to get someone hooked on them?

Now, someone on another forum actually was talking about the same choice, and they made a pretty good point. Like, his life as it is just soul-crushing and shitty. In such a situation, without any way to really change that, is it really wrong to use something like a BTL to dull the pain?

Also if, like, you actually ask Ambrose about it he tells you that they're not the "brain frying mega heroin mixed with Sword Art Online" variety.

It just gives the dude good feelings for the workday and lets him pretend to be someone else. Plus, y'know, it's a teensy bit hypocritical for someone who's a terrorist/mercenary/assassin working for the triads to take a hardline anti-drug stance. If nothing else. :V

Edit: Or if you pass the check iirc?

Ambrose wouldn't tell me they were special safe BTLs until I'd already withheld them from Reliable Matthew so I wasn't able to fix my mistake and give them to him.

Damn you, Hotwheels.

also, unrelatedly:
someone on another forum said that Cheng is basically Lucile Bluth as a crime boss and I
I just can't not see that anymore
it just fits too well

Yeah, pass the check and it tells you that this BTL aren't the life destroying one, but still based on previous games I didn't want to take chance.
Oh well next playthrough give it to him.

Remind me what you were going for. I tried doing a jack of all trades (human diplomat, decker, pistoleer, mage) and while it does the job, it ain't perfect.

Started as Body+Strength with a bit of Charisma for Melee Yes, started pumping Charisma hard for ettiquetes, then realized that my whip needed Quickness and Ranged and started pumping that.

Just finished the game with, like, 7 body, 7 cyber-affinity, 6 quickness, 6 strength, 8 Charisma.

Guys need help with decking, specifically:

On the Prosperity mission. How am I supposed to save Raymond from ASIST when everyone is shooting at me and you have only ten turns left?

Gotta say, I'm a little annoyed that the included a non-lethal takedown, and then made it the same as killing someone. I get why they can't treat it differently, but it's still annoying to have the option there, taunting me. When they make the next one of these I hope non-lethal options figure more heavily into it.

Alright, so this is a bit long, so I'm gonna spoiler it, but it's simpler than it looks.

If you hack the head researcher's console on the 46th floor, that will give you the passwords for the IC walls. Send your decker into the matrix ASAP; you really only need three people to hold the room, if you're being liberal with stun grenades. Hint: be liberal with stun grenades. Put AOE effects across the door to get people as they come in (I used plague barrier). Anything specific giving you trouble?

Seriously though it's not particularly hard, it's only counting turns outside the matrix and those only come up every couple turns when you're in a fight in the matrix so as long as you don't take forever clearing IC and don't trigger like, every single watcher you should be fine.

Ah, welp, didn't have the password. It's the fact that I gotta kill all the ice before I can activate them. Time to reload.

As for holding the room, guys shooting my decker (which is myself). Ugh, gotta do this all over again.

Push your squad up to the cover in the middle of the room. It's what I did in my game, and the enemies took the cover at the very entrance of the room as a result. Seemed to be far back enough that noone really attacked Izzy in my run. I suppose my adept player character running around in melee over there could've been the cause of that as well, though.

Take your time in the Matrix. If you're not in combat, no time is passing, so you can save a lot of time by avoiding unnecessary fights. If you're having trouble killing the ICE that it is mandatory to fight, consider using ESP to burn through them quickly. You should be rolling with level III programs at this point; make sure you have Sniffer so that you can actually hit your targets with Killer and normal attacks.

Is the problem getting through the walls or just killing the ICE fast enough? The password won't help the latter. If you're running around with underpowered programs and no ESPs, you may be in deep trouble.

If the problem is people killing your body while jacked in, make sure you jack in from cover, and use stun grenades on everyone.

(Seriously stun grenades solve SO MANY PROBLEMS)

If you want the passwords are:
(Not really sure about the last two)
  1. Dawn
  2. Dusk
  3. Noon
  4. Night
