She didn't ignore it. She realized the eye of sauron was giving her good fortune. She wasn't even near the walled city in the first place.
Exactly. She knew she was getting good fortune from the fucking Eye of Sauron and she just studiously ignored it. The entire plot took place because some mid-tier CEO didn't give a shit about the portal to "Where we're going we won't need teeth". Her role in the plot is essentially tangential at best. After taking a shot at the PC and Duncan the sum total of her actual actions upon the plot is 'kidnap and try to mind-wipe son so that he, too, can studiously ignore the Event Horizon turning the Walled City into a dentist's nightmare'. After the personal touches to Returns' and Dragonfall's villains, it's just incredibly disappointing. You don't even get to meet Tseng face-to-face for Christ's sake, and after all the hype given to the fact that you're technically related! I guess she was just on the world's longest coffee break while I broke into the tower where her son was getting his memories rewritten, released a Queen With A Thousand Teeth servitor in the magical department, shot up half the building's security staff, and absconded with a 65-year-old-man who'd just been through brain surgery.

Not really, I think she realised that Raymond was there to shut down the machine out of guilt, so she went in hard and fast to prevent it from happening. Also, secondly, she's a CEO somewhat. If you meet her personally doing work like a pleb, then her ability to delegate is kinda crap. Don't think she gives a shit about duncan and the PC though. After all, she had them branded as terrorists.

Have acquired cyberwhip.

I am a god.

A broke god.

Currently trying to scrounge up money for decent armor. And maybe a smartlinked Sniper since I'm stuck dumping Karma into Ranged and Quickness now.

A) Of course she did. That's literally what I was just talking about. She wanted him to just keep ignoring Warp in the basement. Her tangible role in the story is so anaemic she might as well not have a character portrait.

B) She's the CEO of a B-rated corporation that only recently shot up from about D-rated or something. This isn't asking to see Damien Knight personally. And besides, you meet Lofwyr once in Returns and Dragonfall, why not talk to her? And finally, none of that matters, because a 'villain' you never even exchange five words with does not a threatening presence make. And like it or not Tseng is all we've got for 20 hours until She Who Flosses Daily decides to cram her stupid horned head into the picture and go "REMEMBER TO CHECK FOR PLAQUE BUILDUP!"

Beeeecause she's not actually the real antagonist? Because, functionally speaking, she is tangential to the plot? She wasn't handled perfectly yeah and I would have liked to see more of an actual implementation, more of that personal connection, but from the word "go" the principal antagonist was always Qian Ya. It's her influence that's pervading the Walled City. She's the one that Raymond came to fight, not his mother. She's the one that's been tormenting him and haunting him, and haunting the player too through the increasingly visceral dreams. She's even in the opening animation bit ffs. :V

The entire plot takes place because of her and because of Raymond. Raymond built the machine. Qian Ya corrupted it. Raymond trying to stop her kicks off the plot. Josephine is just kind of there on the sidelines because, at the end of the day, Grandma Tsang was really just an enabler and an opportunistic leech. Which is...also referenced pretty heavily throughout with all the comments re: her skimming like fuck from the construction projects and Chen's comments and the revelation about the module.

You're kind of myopically focusing on this One Thing and, imo, like...saying "but you didn't Get It" is sort of shitty but I kinda don't think you did? Dunno.

I've figured out a way to do the hacking minigame and all the button punching.

...it's also the same method I used to deal with Fate/Extra's battles.

Take a pencil and paper and write the sequence as fast as fuck. :V

Alternatively, grab a calculator and punch the sequence in. Make sure it's a proper calculator, not a phone calculator because phone keypads and keyboard keypads are arranged differently.

Man, I'm not even getting to use my shiny new sniper rifle because everyone keeps walking into the monofilament cuisinart of death.

It's wonderful.
Yeah, most of the mooks
Except that one team in Prosperity Towers who are genre savvy enough to go 'screw this, I'm not paid enough to deal with the team of shadowrunners that just mowed down our elite squad and wrecked our entire security network'
seem to be pretty optimistic!
'Alright, so, that crazy cybered up nutjob over there just cut Jimmy in half with a monofilament whip...and Tom...and Jenny...but surely, he won't get me! CHAAAAAAAAARGE!'

So how much Quickness/Ranged you got to make it effective? Cause' on my 2nd playthrough, I really wanna try Adept but looking at everyone here going Glory 2.0 is way awesome, having second thoughts.

Wait, people have trouble with that?

It's trivial!

Five, I ended up with this weird 4-way split build because I changed my plan a couple times during the game.

Wait, people have trouble with that?

It's also hideously tedious busywork which every now and then will trip you up when you get complacent and make you shit fury so hard you burn a hole in your chair.

I would just use the Force option at every single Blocker IC if I could.

Seriously though I'd rather play the hacking game from BioShock 1 instead. I can understand why some people have problems with it. Makes me save every single time I deck.

Remind me what you were going for. I tried doing a jack of all trades (human diplomat, decker, pistoleer, mage) and while it does the job, it ain't perfect.

Wait, people have trouble with that?

It's trivial!
I get a little mixed up numbers and spelling and how things are arranged. >_< Not enough to qualify as dyslexic, but enough to screw me over for this. >_<

It's a the way the game store the data, if you know that with cheat engine or something similar to can track down the value and modify it.

Also it's amusing to hack hacking minigames.

I'm facepalming for not thinking of this, lol.

Seriously though I'd rather play the hacking game from BioShock 1 instead. I can understand why some people have problems with it. Makes me save every single time I deck.

ttell me about it. Alpha Protocol's hacking was much better.

Anyway basically you need a program called Cheat Engine. You start Shadowrun Returns Hong Kong first, and then you open Cheat Engine and open the Scan Processes button until you find [randomnumbers]SRHK.exe. Choose that as your process to scan. Start your game and be ingame. Now, checklist time.

1. Enter the scanned value in to the search field, and pick New search. We'll do this with my assumed Nuyen figure of 1500.
2. After searching, in the left you'll see a whole host of addresses with values for 1500.
3. Now, ingame go to a random merchant and buy something - say, a grenade that costs 75 nuyen.
4. Now, in the search field, enter 75 (the value that went down) and then in the dropdown menu, choose "Decreased value by".
5. Click on "Next Search" next to the New Search button.
6. If you're lucky, you're down to 2 addresses. If not, rinse and repeat 3-5 until you're down to 2 or 1 address.
7. Double click an address, and then in the field below, double click and change the value. We'll make it 15000.
8. Check your nuyen ingame. If it didn't go up, then delet that address form the BOTTOM of your screen, pick the other address and change the value. SHould work now.

And that's how you hack nuyen and karma.

For the heat level while you're decking, theoretically you want to do the same process, except that you start with searching 0, and instead use "Increased value by" how much your heat goes up. Once you lock down that address, just Rambo your way through and then periodically use cheat engine to reset the Heat value to 0.

Theoretically. Because that's how it should work, but I need to run it for myself to verify.

i've done it, it's stored as a double instead of byte, and there's a couple of values IIRC but only one is the main value.

So after beating this the other day I've got a hankering for another playthrough of Dragonfall. The only question I have is what build should I use?

Also, are there any good custom campaigns floating around the internet? The best I found was Unlimited which was a pretty good way to waste a few hours.

You can never go wrong with a standard Ranged build.
Aside from increasing Charisma (you'll want some, for etiquettes and checks), you'll be putting most of your points into Quickness, Dodge, Ranged Combat and one or two weapons of your choice. Rifles are a good idea - assault rifles are murder at close ranges (but still good at long ranges), while sniper rifles are great for long ranges, obviously. But you can also go with shotguns or pistols - just avoid SMGs, they are pretty crappy. At least in Hong Kong, they are a decent support weapon thanks to being able to flush enemies out of cover.
Maybe a bit boring, but it definitely gets the job done.

Other than that, you should always buy some Body - you'll take damage eventually, more HP is never a bad idea. Don't forget to get some Willpower too, to defend against spells.

Or replace most of that and go with a mage. Pump your Willpower and Spellcasting, grab combat-spells.
You'll still want some Quickness and Dodge, to avoid attacks. So it's a bit more Karma-intensive
Since you should invest into charisma anyway, it's almost never a bad idea to grab some shaman-abilities too. You don't even need that much to get some nice spells that make for pretty great tactical combinations.

Melee builds are an obvious alternative to that. But in those cases, you will need Strength too, and probably more Body too since you'll be exposed more often.
As for Deckers - a player-character decker should always be a rigger, too. Send your drone to do combat for you, and you don't have to invest notably into body, quickness or willpower. I had a playthrough in Dragonfall as one, and it does work very well

...I already know how to play the game and build characters, y'know. I've beaten all three campaigns. I was asking for a suggestion on what type of character to play as.

Ah fuck it I'll just build AMERICA-SAN Dervish. His portrait is right there, begging to be used after all.

My only regret is the unavailability of stars and stripes-painted power armor.

Anyone used the minigun?
While it seems awesome, its accuracy is dogshit, the AP cost is terrible and the multiple attribute dependency (since you need 5/7 strength depending on the version in addition to shooty stats) really hurts. Just use an assault rifle instead.
