QA could fake a Thinker power that lets us name people's powers. Taylor's already a crazy grab bag, it wouldn't even be that unusual.

PRT might be really nervous about the ability to out capes, though.

We could give them information, but in a really cryptic way that's unreliable? I feel like it loses half the fun if we keep the Shard thing completely secret.

I kinda want to go full disclosure. Which, obviously, will be disregarded as nonsense due to the brain damage.

Then, way, way later on in the quest the dawning realisation of "oh, shit. She was serious." will be glorious.

[] Deflect. Your memories are effectively nonexistent prior to the horror that was your prison. You even had to be told your own first name and you only just uncovered your familial name.
-[] They'll need to make that judgment call on their own.

This is my preference. I'd rather play it like we're trying to pretend to be Taylor, if a brain-damaged version. Giving out too much information too quickly about how shards work feels like it would rush us past the fun parts with QA badly trying to pretend to be a person, interacting with the Wards, and having fun with death-pets in snazzy hats.

If we can work it in under the Deflect heading, I'd be cool with it.

Hehehehe!

[] "Greetings, Gunny-Host. This Taylor is unable to properly process your request at this time. Cause of damage to others is likely the result of an attack, suspected assailant is unknown additional party. Additional, Cause of damage of Taylor unknown. *Twitch* Urgh, My.. My head. Whats going on? Who are you?"

Basically, playing up fake 'Thinker powers' with brain damage and sending the PRT on a wild goose chase for a 5th person. We must escape.

I seriously doubt QA's acting skills are up to the task.

At best it would look like the Thinker power has two modes "Assuming direct control" and "such a massive crutch for the brain-damaged wreck that there might as well not be a human in there".

QA is unwilling to go along with this plan. She thinks it would make Host look incompetent or otherwise incapable of taking care of herself. She's also not confident enough in her acting abilities to pull off such a shift. [/killjoy]

Too bad Shaper didn't recommend QA refer to Shards as Fairies, Titania!QAylor is a favorite of mine.
As it is,

I'd also recommend a plan that doesn't include lies. Mislead, yes. Half-truths, yes. But lies? No.

I'd also recommend avoiding revealing too much Shard knowledge. That means no helpfully explaining that the unconscious people had powers or the potential, or anything that mentions Shards are aware / sentient, or the cycles.
Basically: Stick with facts that you know and that are safe.
1. You woke up in a locker filled with biological waste. Fact.
2. You were in there for an unknown amount of time, in a location with a relatively large number of people nearby and no body helped. Fact.
3. You woke up with powers, but missing most/all of your (?) memories. Fact. (? = some sort of qualfier for this to refer to Taylor's memories without making it seem QA has mastered her her or has MPD or is insane. So no 'human memories'...)

Once asked about the three who are unconscious, you can mention that it seems quite odd that all this occurred. Someone must have stuck you in the locker, but how did they prevent anyone from freeing you? Does anyone remember it or are you the only one with missing memories? Was the school under control of a malicious Master who attacked her and knocked out three others?

Basically suggest the possibility that someone else was involved in a way that forces them to actually investigate and question the school population. The Trio's control over the school might be tight, but I highly doubt it's tight enough to ensure no-one breaks and tells everything when they're questioned by PRT/Protectrate at which point the fact that no-one else revealed stuff either means they're complicit / mastered / mind-wiped...

I don't want to tell the truth. Yet. We can come up with a good story when it's reasonable.

On deflecting... something seems off about the default. So I'll put in a write-in for explaining the memory damage, hopefully making it clearer that we were a lucky survivor instead of the cause:

[x] Is she sure it happened to them before you? Your earliest coherent memory is from inside that prison.
-[x] You really don't know, though.

Leaning towards deflection in some form, personally. Amnesia will excuse the sudden personality shift, the inability to remember names, and lots of other stuff. Certainly won't be wierd, given the brain damage.

I suspect we'll be considered the cause however we slice it. We're the one who Triggered, and that would usually have knocked SS out anyway. Given the clear fact that some aspect of our Trigger went horribly, horribly wrong, or that something otherwise forced our Corona Gemma and Corona Pollentia to take over other sections of our brains, I doubt we'll actually be blamed for anything. This was clearly a terrible accident of some sort, of the kind no one could possibly have predicted or stopped.

I'm guessing our unique brain structure will get the credit for our immunity to Thinkers and mind-affecting, too. Since we don't actually have any powers that interact with brains (excepting the use of hats, which we obviously lacked in the locker), barring the passives, they really don't have any reason to think this even could be deliberate.

OOC info as this is itself born from OOC: This is more-or-less overkill. Four individuals simultaneously came down with crippling brain damage, one of whom was a Ward and all of whom seem to have been parahumans of some sort or another. That and the gigantic biohazard on the premises is painting an awfully ugly picture.

...You know, I hadn't actually intended to use it to ensure players wouldn't pull as heavily from meta-knowledge (for Serious Business purposes), but Last Scream does do a good job of discouraging it. It's unnecessary.

I'm fine with deflecting.

[X] Tell the truth. You'd assume they had, or could have had, powers. When your own connection went awry, the other humans may have been unfortunate collateral damage. It won't happen again.
-[X] You're worried their powers might yell at you later. It's not your fault, but they'll think it is.
-[X] You don't foresee any problems arising from healing them.
--[X] You'll be surprised if the connections to their powers remain intact, though. Powers don't like dealing with damaged partners. Unless the humans in question were really promising or creative, most wouldn't stay long enough to see them be healed.
-[X] Add that the three should've been bonded with Phantasm, Perfectionist, and Architect. Phantasm was an active partner while the other two had yet to properly link. Does that help any?

Refuge in Audacity, hopefully they will think were crazy, not responsible.

Cryptic, you say?

[j] I think they were or could have been my dream-cousins
-[j] You can wake them up, but they probably won't dream anymore
-[j] Unless they were very inventive daydreamers
-[j] Dreams don't like boring dreamers you see.

[X] Write-in: Something along these lines:
Stare at Arsenal's host. Blink a few times. "Well." Turn and look at our reflection in the mirror on the wall. "Gosh." Turn back to Arsenal's host. Brace self and proceed.

"From the tenor of your question, I'd guess you suspect a causal connection between my collapse and the others. I honestly don't know, though. When did I collapse? Or...where? That might be relevant." Back to reflection. Make faces in the mirror. "Faces are weird, aren't they?"

Wait for her reply, but interrupt. "Oh! You were worried that trying to wake them up might cause more damage? Couldn't say. But for what it's worth, I just woke up, and I feel fine."

Turn and speak to our reflection. "How do you feel? Fine, thanks. And you? Hey, do you mind?" Indicate Arsenal's host. "Kind of in the middle of something." Give reflection the finger. Turn back to Arsenal's host. "She says she's fine."
