"I swear to serve you for a year, or until you reach the stage of Gold." The words left your lips and you felt a pang in your core, as you created a soul oath to that effect. You weren't thinking of what exactly you were swearing, or on how open ended that oath was as you made it, because the offer of things beyond your home was just that tempting. Perhaps if you were older you would have worded your oath better, but now all you had was the hope it would not be abused.
"And I in turn swear to pay you justly for your services, and to ensure you grow to meet the standards of an Akura servant for the course of your service." Gratitude pressed her palms together as she said that, the haughtiness fading for the moment as she took her own soul oath - an oath that you could feel the reverberations of. While you both had made an oath, hers was clearly much more powerful due to her more advanced stage of development.
I wasn't really in favor of this plan but if it happens it happens and now we just need to make the best of it.
"I do not care what happens to those. Take them home. Rip them to pieces. Feast on their meats. Use their bindings to empower yourselves. Just remove them from my land. Now, Lōkahi," Wait, she got your name correctly, even down to the pronunciation. So she was just pretending to not remember it? "You are to start cleaning the rest of the house. We have supplies to remove blood, ash, dust, and more within the bottom floor left wing annex hallway's secondary closet space. This task will be finished before you next sleep; if you feel you cannot handle it naturally, the second floor central hall third doorway is where you should look. There you will find a variety of simple stimulant elixirs, including Vibrant Quicksilver Invigoration elixirs. You are only to use these and all other elixirs while fulfilling duties I allow you to use them for, using them only strictly as necessary when you cannot do without, and only making use of exactly the ones I allow. Understood?"
You nodded quickly, "Bottom left annex... second closet... yeah?" You had never been in a building as large as this one. Or a building shaped like these at all. It wasn't even entirely shaped out of stone, which was impressive. "And the second floor central hall third door. But only when you tell me I can." You were pretty good at listening to instructions though, after working with Semis for so long on complicated things like advanced cycling techniques.
"Correct. Except that you are woefully lacking in manners." She frowned in a way that made her displeasure obvious, and you could feel a small catch in your spirit as your Oath took effect, "A proper manservant will begin their sentences with 'Certainly, Lady Gratitude', or at the very least end it with a bow and a deferential 'my lady'. Every so often I shall allow 'your greatness' or 'mistress Gratitude', but not always. I will only be lenient with your manners for so long." She turned up her nose as she said that, "Expect punishment if this continues. Now then, I will be returning to my room. Do not bother me until your tasks are finished." As she walked up towards the doorway, she moved to push it open - but she shifted towards her right arm that was no longer there. A moment's hesitation before her left arm rose and opened the doorway instead.
Gratitude is being a demanding bitch but that's to be expected. She is actually competent though which is a relief.
"She kind of reminds me of Nuanua and Natano." Your cousins had a similarly superior attitude, it was part of why you didn't associate with them too often. "But did you see all that stuff she has?" You couldn't help but be excited, "Even just studying the techniques used to make all of it could last me a whole year!"
"Yeah, if a day's labor can get me something nice, I'll bow and play nice. I'm used to bowing down and serving, after all." Aisha frowned as she said that, "Honestly, I was kind of hoping you'd deny her, she probably would have taken me instead. Not that I'm mad at you or anything. Just... surprised." Her gaze on your was softer than it was when you first met, you could tell she had some fondness of you... for some reason that you didn't know, "Most mainline kids wouldn't even consider bowing down to someone else. Not just your bratty cousins." Seeing as she worked for the same workshop the Twin's Father was an instructor for, you guessed she was familiar with the names.
"Oh... well.." You had hesitated a little but not a lot. "My brother always said to accept where you are lacking, and not to try to uhm, act pridefully or pretend like you're good at everything." Tama's advice had always been more lax than your parent's, though even your Mom would accept backing down if you thought it was the right path and had considered all angles, "This felt kind of like that. She - I uh, mean 'The Lady Akura'," Speaking properly as a servant was going to be the hardest part of this, you sensed, "is a Jade. And I think she's even younger than me!" You weren't exactly a large five year old, after all, and she was still smaller than you. "I don't mind admitting she's better than me."
"Huh." She gave a nod, "I getcha. But I don't know how many people around you will."
Lōkahi has shown before that he's willing to put aside pride to win and get stuff in a way this is a bigger continuation of that. Being able to access this knowledge and resources is worth the price of service to him. The fact that a pseudo noble is able to do that at Lōkahi's age is impressive.
That turned out to be a concern for another day though; as it turned out that cleaning an entire battle scarred mansion was harder work than you'd expected. You weren't quite so wealthy a family as to have servants do the cleaning for you; your Father preferred to put that money into funding your Mother's projects, so you'd cleaned before. But you'd never had to get on hands and knees to scrub, and especially not with chemicals so unsafe that you had to wear gloves and clothing scripted to not break down under what was practically an acid.
Just the scent of it made you lightheaded, so you did your best to not breath as you scrubbed, having to stand up and move away to take a breath safely. Your body ached, your muscles burned, and you wished you were at little more physically adept if only because scrubbing up the blood alone was enough to make you regret your decision. If only a little. At least you were not like Aisha - even her Iron body was only allowing her to drag the armored defenders towards the graves she had struggled to dig, all while running with barely any madra in her core.
Hours passed, and your eyes started to feel heavy, your body felt exhausted in a way it hadn't before. Aisha caught you just before your went face first into the cleaning fluid eating away at the bile left from the stomach wound of a body she'd long since removed, "Woah there." She had already finished her job, but she was still waiting for you. She wasn't helping you, but she was nearby, cycling what Life and Cloud she could out of the air to refresh herself, and keeping you from injuring yourself. "Think it might be time for one of those draughts of hers."
This is really pushing Lōkahi's physical abilities so at least there's that.
'For best results, utilize as a replacement for sleep for no more than two consecutive days, barring express permission. Do not exceed recommended dosages without proper permission from your masters. Failure to do so can cause; psychotic episodes, hallucinations, permanent insomnia, dream-overflow, or sudden expiration of the consumer, as well as potential citation by your Akura masters. Recommended dosages are as follows; Iron; five drops every six hours. Jade; quarter bottle every six hours. Lowgolds, one bottle every six hours. For Highgolds and above, please request a 'Waking Solar Ray' draught for similar effects.'
There was no recommended dosage for a copper. But that didn't mean much, and you were too cold to really worry about it. You removed the elixir, and looked around the room - finding a simpler shelf nearby, with a script for cleaning what was put inside it. You were thankful you understood how to read the scripts, as that saved you a lot of pain and suffering, as your toes felt like they were freezing. Inside were a variety of droppers, which would allow you to pull the slightest amounts of elixir from the bottles.
One drop. That's what you decided on, as your hands shook. You pressed the dropper straight to your tongue, the silver shining liquid bead touching onto it as you released the drop. And for a split second you felt like you could see beyond the world, as a rush of pure energy flooded through you. Life and Dream madra mixed through your body in an instant, and you felt warm as your body filled with more energy than you'd ever felt. A good night's sleep was nothing next to what you felt now, despite having been up for nearly ten hours, and spending seven of those doing hard scrubbing.
And it made you hot. Your whole body felt like it was burning up, as the energy ran through it - the chill of the room around you a forgotten memory as you felt sweat pouring from all of your pores. This lasted for almost a minute, as your body coursed with the energizing draught's power. More than that, your aches and pains felt like a distant memory, as the Life madra not only energized your body, but stimulated your muscle's recovery. You weren't sure if this would have healed any real wounds, but it made you feel light as a feather for the moment.
Being safe with the elixirs is a good idea. Also it goes to show how potent they are.
You couldn't help but think about how much you could get done if you'd just pocketed this elixir. Vai's class would be a joke if you could just take a droplet of this every time you started to hurt too bad and wanted to give up. You'd be able to study your cycling technique all night long without needing to sleep, you'd be able to push your techniques further than anyone your age. This one singular elixir was enough that it would grant you an insurmountable advantage over all of your peers. And you were using it to be able to clean the mansion faster.
And it wasn't even one of the apparent valuable ones. There were three dozen of just this one potion, when one would easily last you half, maybe two third sof a month, even if you took it every six hours without break.
What would happen if you drank one of the valuable ones, like the Prismaticly Clarified Rainbow Lotus, which lay alone on its shelf, with extra scripts surrounding it to prevent it from being opened without the proper keystone. What could that possibly provide?
Your greed was interrupted by a panging in your soul, as your Oath reminded you not to betray the girl who you swore to serve. And that pang reminded you of your current job.
Cleaning went by in a breeze as you dreamed of the rewards you would be given.
Lōkahi is very aware of how much of an edge these resources are.
You opened your mouth to speak, but Aisha spoke first, the older girl taking charge and speaking louder than usual, "Lōkahi and I were practicing his cycling technique nearby, when the crash happened. He wanted to take a closer look, and I did not want him getting injured, so I accompanied him. We arrived just before the defenses were restored." She lied without hesitation, there was not a single hitch to her breath, as if she had been preparing to tell this lie all day while you worked and cleaned, "It looked as if they were attacked before they landed here, as there were two dozen dead men. The surviving resident is from some sort of powerful faction of the outside world, powerful enough to have created a five year old who is already a Jade," There are a few guffaws, but most people seem to be taking the story at face value, "and despite being only a Jade the place was littered with Truegold weapons that she can activate." That instantly causes a murmur of fear amongst those gathered.
"But, she just wants to be left alone." Aisha cut off the murmurs, with practiced ability. Despite being only a teenager talking to full on adults, she didn't back down or hesitate. She was taking charge on this matter, "She intends to reach Gold and leave, without ever leaving the ship. She made an oath regarding that." Another lie, once again without hesitation. Could you trust anything Aisha said, when she lied openly without a moment of hesitation? "Her only requirement is that Lōkahi continues to visit, as he is apparently trustworthy. Likely due to their similarity in age."
You felt the eyes turn to you, and you realized that you had to inform people of your status with Gratitude. It was unlikely that she would ever find out what title you gave to yourself for the Spires to know; but... was lying really the right thing to do? And if she did find out... well, you wondered what she would do. Your oath didn't stir as you considered calling yourself something than other than her servant ultimately deciding on;
Props to Aisha for lying about things this well and keeping her cool, sure it's to get her own cut out of things but still. The Jade who has Truegold weapons and a ship defense is a good deterrent.
Lōkahi found that their duties were fairly simple, if time consuming, as a manservant; they cleaned and dusted the mansion, they prepared meals, drew baths, gathered elixirs for Gratitude's daily regimens, arranged clothing, and cleaned those which were used. Along with this he also was in charge of purchasing the few supplies Gratitude needed from the locals. Apparently he was also supposed to care for the mansion gardens, but those had unfortunately been blown to pieces during either the attack, the descent, or the lightning strikes from the Storm-Wall, and Gratitude had no interest in replacing the gardens with some shoddy beginner's work. He also served as the go between for telling people to stop trying to break into the ship, as Gratitude pointedly refused to leave the safety of the barrier.
A lot of these tasks were a first for you, though they found that 'preparing meals' was a lot simpler than it sounded. Many of the ingredients that were stored in the kitchen's on suite chill-room, which was notably less cold than the cold storage elixir room, were sacred fruits, vegetables, nuts, or similar. And, annoyedly, Gratitude had explained that most of them simply needed to be cut, skinned, deshelled, or otherwise made presentable for her to eat - not properly cooked.
In exchange for these, Gratitude provided Lōkahi with plentiful rewards, staying true to her oath and word;
On the bright side Lōkahi is learning a lot of life skills from this.
However, these tasks took up much of your time. Trying to find time to do anything else was difficult, even your compulsory education became a lot less compulsory as you began to ditch classes so that you could get to work, even your family's cultivation time became less and less a concern as you considered cutting it out to get to working earlier - after all, you could always cycle on the ship. You could only spin so many plates and stay rested, even with Gratitude allowing you to use the Invigorating elixirs every so often. Though not as often as the warnings would have allowed on their own.
Your family is ultimately accepting of the deal that was brokered with Akura Gratitude, though your Mother briefly indicates that if you break the scripts, she will murder Gratitude herself to keep her from abusing you. Which was pretty scary. When you tell her that you don't want that, she eases up, and forces your Father to let things happen once again. Giving you the freedom to make the best of your decisions and opportunities.
She's a really awesome mom both in the letting Lōkahi do what he wants if he chooses it and the protection.
[x] (Title) "I'm helping her repair her ship." You puffed yourself up, trying to give yourself an officially Soft-Storm role. Even though it seems unbelievable.
[x] Plan: Crafty Maximized Synergy
-[x] (Reward) A weekly stipend of one high purity Truegold Scale of Shadow madra; which while not the most valuable of madra types here, was still enough to purchase a Jade treasure or multiple Jade refinements per week, more than doubling your family's income if shared.
-[x] (Reward) A drudge originally built to serve a Soulsmith of the Akura who had died on this journey, it is suitably made to be of Truegold quality, though you cannot access all of its features currently, it still allows you to analyze scripts, bindings, treasures, elixirs, and even people at the level of an advanced Jade scan - a tool that denotes a Soulsmith, and that every Soulsmith must have to do their work.
-[x] (Reward) A Bottomless Bottled Cloud, a 'natural' treasure of pure Cloud aura, a bit stronger than your home's natural aura, usable at any time, anywhere, that Gratitude believes would last you through to Highgold even if you only cycled using it from now until then, even with your wasteful technique.
-[x] (Reward) Access to the Iron Body repository, a collection of various iron bodies 'perfected' by the Akura Clan, along with a promise of additional resources to ensure that Lōkahi's Iron Body will be as powerful as possible, no matter which they select.
-[x] (Reward) Access to dreamslates regarding more general knowledge from masters of their subjects, those who have studied language, etiquette, history, science, and maths to their limits, instead of pushing their cultivation.
-[x] (Timeslot) You spend additional time on the Cloudship, learning as much about the deep, powerful scripts that run the ship and its mansion, trying to repair as many damaged scripts as you possibly can and deepening your knowledge of scripting in the process.
-[x] (Timeslot) You spend additional time repairing the physical aspects of the Cloudship, which are all works of soulsmithing, pushing you to put the knowledge you had only watched others do of making actual physical product to the test. Requires Drudge reward
-[x] (Timeslot) You spend time with your Mother, learning to Script, Soulsmith, and use your Proclamations technique more freely, thanks to your newfound financial boon freeing up her time to mentor you. Requires Scales reward.
These rewards are far better than what we would get for any regular use of our time. The timeslots working on the ship help us develop our skills and get paid very generously simultaneously, so those are obvious choices. I went for the money and mom time because we can take what we learn from the ship and work it out with her. There's a natural synergy between Mom, drudge, ship scripts, and ship soulsmithing. I also think the mundane dreamslates will help there, it's already been established that regular knowledge of language, science, formal logic, etc. will help us with egour scripting. I went with the bottomless cloud because it lets us cultivate at any free moment, not just each morning. Finally, the Iron Body repository comes with incredible knowledge and support, it just seems like the highest value reward.
If we're going to be her minion we may as well take full advantage of it and go all in on getting these resources that we can't get in the island.

Basically it's the same as Crafty Maximized Synergy but it trades the and cultivation resource for knowledge on Cloud Paths and improvements for the Cycling. The increased knowledge is the biggest edge here with this Lōkahi becomes a proper Scripter, Soulsmith and scholar while still laying the foundation for their path.
