Sailor Moon Crystal comments and reactions

I want to see someone running the transformation sequences from the old and the new shows side by side just to demonstrate how closely they followed the originals...

Well, this was yet another lovely episode, though I see a bit of deviation at the end, I think. Though, I certainly appreciated the guitar parts in the transformation sequences.

I think Jadeite teleported at the end rather than get burned to a crisp like in the manga.

Moon Pride's initial and ending guitar riffs are growing on me so much.
-Usagi really goes so ga-ga over Rei it's fun. It's even easier to ship them now.
-The "masquerade" *snicker* is broken. Mamoru knows who she is. I assume so, anyways.
-Ami is cool under pressure. Can't track Usagi? She has the solution. Enemy appears? Hit him!
-Also, they can teleport? Hm, manga powerlevels.
-Jadeite is alive and the next episode isn't another senshi. Finally the unexpected can happen. Surprise us!

The Senshi don't seem to have the "disguise field" that Fanon gives them, given how Rei twigged onto Usagi's identity.

Maybe that's because she's a Senshi herself. Memories of the past and all that. Until someone without powers does the connecting the dots, I wouldn't really say so.

So, did Sailor Mars bring up the standards for posing this episode?

The next episode not being a new Senshi is *not* a change from the manga - it too has "Masquerade" as the fourth chapter.

The next episode features Masato Sanjouin (wonder if he still drives a white Testarossa...); a terrestrial princess that looks like Umino Gurio in drag (coke bottle glasses!) who owns a monstrously large diamond with a hilarious name (IIRC); and both Tux-boy, Nephrite and Sailor Moon all crashing the same party to check whether the rock in question is the Silver Crystal.

Speaking of *this* episode, I was a little bit disappointed with the animation quality in places, the faces looked rather strange and it wasn't AFAIK due to CGI or anything. Combining Ami's and Usagi's transformations looked OK, and bodes at least a little better for the amount of screen time that's going to be wasted on transformations over the course of the show.

However, the preview
shows a blonde, rather than the reddish-brown-whatever of Nephrite

So...Jaedite...is he alive?

I paused spammed during the burning sequence, and it seems like he teleported out.

Given the manga shows his burnified corpse, and we see a blond dude in the preview, I would assume its off the rails.

Also, a bit odd for them to pop up at the Dark Kingdom's hide-away when in both previous manga and anime it was a pocket dimension.

That's an odd choice.

I want some more pacing like the anime, and given Jaedite's possibly not dead, we just might get that.

I do wonder what the blush on Rei's face meant...either just enjoying her first time in an arcade or if she is similar to Usagi from the earlier episode....:p:D

Still sticking very close to the manga, except for one major thing:
Jadeite's survival is confirmed, and the Senshi are now aware there are four generals in total.

A bit too much time wasted on stock transformation sequences in this episode again - full transformations for Mercury and Mars, though they left off the canned pose-and-speech bit (they did use the speeches on the possessed princess though); Moon's transformation was kind of hilariously cut short though when she realized her tiara burnt up last episode. *snerk*

Also,
Forehead beam!

and of course, a cameo of one Kino Makoto.

I wonder if Makoto will deal some major damage untransformed...

No idea. Did she actually get *into* any fights untransformed in the manga?

TVTropes noted a few things I forgot to mention about the episode that were different compared to the source material: Luna being well aware of Tuxedo Kamen's civilian name, and also the deplorable lack of comsec between the Senshi and Luna (all of them call Sailor Moon "Usagi" to her face, with witnesses...)

Also, I love the irony of Usagi's mom wishing Usagi could be more like Sailor Moon. (And I'm seriously jealous of her newspaper. Full size papers basically ceased to exist nearly twenty years ago in my country, everything is tabloid format. Kind of useless as table covers. :()

Edit: Forgot to say, I think *all* the Senshi will be able to deal some damage this time around, given the spoileriffic openings featuring some kind of water based attack for Ami that *wasn't* her Aqua Mist. Also, who's kind of looking forward to a Magicka style combo? Water from Ami plus fire from Rei equals steam, plus lightning from Makoto... What would be Minako's contribution? :)

My only complaint is they didn't use the transformation music for Mars that they used in the last episode. It's much cooler and more interesting than just recycling Moon's/Mercury's music.

It was pretty clear that all of this week's budget went into the second half of the episode. What was even happening with the faces before the break?

Nice to have that confirmation that Jaedite's still around.

It is strange that, for once, I'm more anticipated about the fluff episodes than the actual main plot ones.

Also, I just know someones going to make a vid with Sailor Jupiter and a certain song.

VA gags are fun. But I think it would kind of fit better if they put her transformation to this one instead...

(Looking at all the VA's credits lists gives me ideas for a lot of gags. Having Rei tell Makoto "yes mother" doesn't work quite as well with her current VA as it would have with her old one, though.)
