RWBY: When ROBs have had enough (AU)

Sure, the problem is most of them will suck, remnant weapons tech is fairly advanced, and likely built to higher tolerances.

Actually doing something, for once
"So, It's time to leave?"

Yep. You need to get out there to actually do something.

"I suppose. Can you give me a rundown of what the grimm count is outside?"

Actually, it seems like she has finally lost interest in your 'place of death'. It seems like there is just a few Ursa.

"Sounds good."

And with that, Summer took a running leap at the vortex placed before her.

The first thing Summer noticed when she got outside, was the colors. She had been stuck in the Hub for too long in her opinion, and something besides a whole lot of white was a balm to her soul. Immediately afterwards, she took out an innocuous stick, started running, and when she found a nice patch of even ground, jumped and split the stick. Suddenly, the sticks started forming outwards, into the shape of a motorcycle. With a near silent purr, she found herself blazing along the road, passing by the scenery. Wow, this goes a lot faster than I thought it would. This feels awesome. Before long, she found herself standing in front of another small clearing, this time with a trio Ursa within. Large, hulking bears, they scavenged the ground, licking frantically at some... sap? How did the red sap from forever fall get here? She wondered, before shrugging. Meh, not like it matters right now. With a flying leap, she drew out her new sword, and in a move that would make Raven proud, she completely bisected the Ursa. This immediately alerts the other two Ursa in the clearing, who roar out challenges, before stepping back by the lightning that was flickering across the sword. Summer regarded them for a single second, before activating her semblance and appearing right above the next Ursa. Sword flashing, she cut down and as if by magic, the Ursa's head fell off. Down to just itself, the last Ursa bellowed, lumbering forward to slap this foolish human's head off. Instead, it found itself seeing red, before nothing. As it had happened, Summer had taken a few steps, and using her semblance, cut the Ursa into many little pieces. A complete rout.

"Wow do I feel refreshed!" After taking some time to hunt the grimm, Summer found herself at a cross roads. She had a few places to go, but didn't know where to go. Therefore, she decided to ask for help. "Hey guys? Do have an idea of where I could go? I have a few ideas myself, but I want to hear your opinions first."

(AN: I'm back, doing something with my life, for once! yay!)

"Well, your family is doubtless worried for you. I'd check the locations of them, Ozpin, and any of Salem's cronies before you go check on them though."

"Well, I need to get there somehow if I used that, and that would put me on Watt's radar. He can't take over the CCT, but he can watch it. Unless this light cycle can run on water, I don't see anyway of getting there myself."

"It's also a teleporter, even if the range is limited. How far is the distance between the landmass you're on and the opposite shore anyway?"

Far enough that the teleporter would not be able to send her all the way. It's an entire ocean, and the Anti-ROB countermeasures reduce it's range to a single city long.

Well, that's certainly inconvenient, what was that alternate version of me thinking when they started designing their equipment to contain lethal cognitohazards for anyone who tried analyzing it? Oh right, probably something along the lines of 'if that ROB keeps stealing my shit, I'll never break out of this pocket dimension'.

Question for the ROBs here, did you try talking to that version of me before you got the device or what?

I sent a message, but all I got was a call with a swear ridden rant of 'leaving the helpless mortals alone' and 'going to stop my sick games'. Jokes on him, I quantum locked this universe, so only people I allow will go through. Jack was nice enough to let me have it for some rum though.

Eeesh... Something tells me that gear from that particular branch of existence is probably off the table for a while.

Eh, I'm just going to go dig through my old universes to see if there's anything else that might be helpful.

Well my advice would be to do what you would have done normally when you finished this deployment. I mean hunters have to have some system set up for coming home don't they?

"Yes, but that would require me to become known to Remnant again. My greatest weapon right now is animosity, and if I lose that then I could just be put in an unwinnable situation again. However, she wouldn't let me go that time."

Anonymity.

You're a huntress, you already have all of Salem's animosity.

Well I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to accomplish then. Do you wanna hit another soft target while she thinks you're dead? What even is a soft target with the Grimm?

"The Grimm might not have a soft target, but she doesn't only have Grimm. If I can kill or subvert a powerful pawn in the future, then I could easily derail her plans entirely. That, of course, will rely upon you guys telling me where I can find said powerful pawn. I could also go to a place that becomes powerful in the future, and give them an even bigger edge with technology that shouldn't exist here."

Well the smart play would be to kill off/beat the stupid out of the fall maiden then.

By the time Ruby turned 15 in the original timeline the mantle had fallen to Amber something or other, and she was a colossal idiot.

I mean for crying out loud, when you have a power up that can be transferred by killing you, you don't leave civilization without at least 3 other rag-tag adventurers in the party, and the horse only counts if it has class levels... or hunters, and unlocked aura with combat training in the local lingo.

Finding a little green haired girl with red eyes named Emerald Sustrai, and getting to her before Cinder does might work.

The Assassin Marcus Black could stand to loose about a foot of height before he manages to turn his son into an omnicidal monster.

A lot of damage could be headed off if Jaques Schnee were to die in a manner unrelated to the faunas.

Although it might be early enough to expose him as a gold digger and get his wife to dump his ass out on the street if he hasn't consolidated his control over the SDC yet.

Quashing Roman Torchwick's criminal career might be doable at this stage but the mysterious nature of Neo makes that risky.

Another option might be to ensure that the White fang and similar peaceful faunas rights movements and operations get more support and recognition so the the White Fang doesn't radicalize in the future.

Also once we start butterflying things in earnest we need to make sure professor Polendina survives. He's basically the best shot for humanity's survival in the long run, especially if we can start sending through a few non-dust power sources to solve your space-flight issues. Also need the other project, but I don't know who worked on that outside of it being someone under Ironwood.

Are you sure? You're a mother, you should know better than to assume that about a little girl.

EDIT: All I can find is that she's a city dweller, probably lower class if not already homeless, Emerald Sustrai is her real name as far as I know so searching for her family may yield fruit. Medium-dark complexion, mint green hair, red eyes. She's in the same rough age bracket as Yang, possibly a bit younger, hard to tell given how malnourished she probably was as a kid.

Edit: I'm inclined to guess Mistral or Vacuo, because I'm not sure she could have survived in Mantle/Atlas given the weather and the background didn't seem Valian but I'm not hyper confident about that evaluation.

Oh, she's also human, not faunas.

Ok, um...I looked around, but I can't find exactly where it is that Emerald lived/grew up before Salem's crony recruited her. It just says 'A city'. So, seeing as how remnant is a pseudo-death-world with relatively little civilization, that *does* narrow things down a little. But seeing as how civilization is so scattered, that could also make things rather timely if we guess wrong.

Now, the limited images we have of Emerald in her home (as well as her choice of apparel) suggest that her homeland is rather warm, which knocks out Atlas as a possibility. Emerald has dark skin, so that *might* indicate that she lived in Vacuo, since people with darker skin tend to be more common in how, dry locations due to biological adaptation, but seeing as how Remnant is has modern-ish transport capabilities, that is nothing close to a guarantee.

Most people *assume* she's from Mistral, since that kingdom is suggested to have a lot of poorer people and it's also where Emerald and her 'team' pretended to come from in the OTL.

Hm...ROB, can we send summer Images through this message system we have with her? Maybe she'd recognize the architecture of the buildings around Emerald when Cinder grabbed her.

We know nothing about Cinder's backstory before Salem got to her. The earliest we've seen of her was I think when she was planning to gank the Fall Maiden, and she was *Well* under Salem's control by then.

Edit:
Oh, also, something we could do is send Summer a Lasgun and have her give it to Atlas to reverse-engineer, so all their soldiers would be armed with perfectly-accurate light-speed weapons with next-to-zero recoil that hit with the same power as a standard assault rifle at worse, and a .50 Cal sniper rifle at best.
