These are, naturally, jokes though: 9968187's builders did not come up with a series of highly formalized activation oaths just so the new commander could then name the state-of-the-art megatank "Size Isn't Everything".

The tank is highly advanced and clearly sapient AI and she damn well can get one-liner name as long as it is in a good taste.

On the contrary. The tank is highly advanced and clearly sapient AI and it can damn well get a real name like the real person it is.

Culture AIs might enjoy giving themselves joke names, but the ones in megatanks like Bolos and 9968187 have always had a bit more, shall we say...gravitas. ;)

Well, maybe 9968187 stood back?

I will admit, however, that the names in that thread are freaking hilarious, @ctulhuslp. I almost wish I could allow some of them, just for the humor...

"More Warheads Than Sense"
"Socially Acceptable Massacre"
"Look What You Made Me Do"
"Existential Relocation Facilitator"

It's not one one picking the name. Its Commander is. You know, the person who really wouldn't want the powers that be getting any ideas that they might not have the 'proper temperament' to command the most advanced land weapon ever devised...
Sounds good. Let's give our Weapon of Moessive Destruction a proper name.

Maybe if we adopt acquire things like gunships or regular tanks at some point we can sue those as their names. It would be fitting.

"Wide Load"
"The Pointy End Justifies The Means"
"Duck!"
"Big Stick"
"Gleeful Implication"
"Lemonade, 99¢"
"VLT (Very Large Toaster)"
"Bigger Than Yo Momma"
"I Can See Your House From Here"
"Bucket List"
"The Gunner Will See You Now"
"Fat and Furious"

[X] Your Mother

Because it looks like it's between Dawn and Argus but I like both of them and can't decide so I voted for a name that amuses me.

As the first of a probably-revolutionary class of heavyweight combatants, there's no more fitting appellation. Also, I don't particularly mind which of the front-runners wins, so may as well put my mark on the vote tally as neutral.

:eyebrow: Really. You're going with a deliberate misinterpretation of a well known phrase? To mean something that isn't even related? That... I don't know if there is even a description of what kind of fail that is.
1) In case you missed the :V-emote, it means that the post was meant as a joke.
2) In case you missed the quotation marks, it was meant to indicate that the sentence was coming from the moetank we have been making jokes about.
3) One of the translations for gravitas is literally "weight".

:eyebrow: And you fail again. I specifically addressed the issue that this was supposed to be a joke, based on a misinterpretation of the word gravitas. While I suspected that it was from the tank's POV it was clear that it was from someone else's point of view, meant to be misinterpretation, and I was pointing out that it failed as a joke. AND check the link. Unless you misspelled something when you googled, gravitas does not mean weight. It's specifically a reference to a mood, or nature of speech. It's root gravi also adds a synonym of gravity to it, but weight isn't one of them. So, no. Fail, fail, and fail. Plus the original fail.

Also, neither this nor my former post were in any indication of aggravation. The only one getting upset here, is you.

Could have fooled me...

I can see this this conversation is taking the express route to Flame Town, so I think I'm going to nip it in the bud. Whether or not @Icipall's joke was all that funny isn't really a topic worth discussing anyway, much less getting so antagonistic over.

Very well.

I have no idea what is going on here, but I very much enjoy it.

I wait until you have rounded my massive port track before slowly opening the huge doors to reveal the two Divine Guardian superheavy tanks that wait within. My maintenance drones hover and buzz around them, their nanite constructors putting the finishing touches on the two tanks as you finally enter me.

Why do we have to adopt tanks/aircraft/other vehicles when we can make our own?

(also discovered this this quest last night. It is really awesome. I cannot wait to see where it goes.)
