[X] Argus

And set a watcher upon her, great and strong Argus, who with four eyes looks every way. And the goddess stirred in him unwearying strength: sleep never fell upon his eyes; but he kept sure watch always.

Is it just me, or does anybody else get wedding vibes from the oaths? Or at least something like a knight and his lady?
Exactly my thoughts.

That, and a PseudoBolo and its Commander/crew are deeply bound by fate. If the PseudoBolo dies/gies explodey, the crew is gone with it presumably.

*looks at our PseudoBolo*

Supposedly.

You stare at me for several more moments, your eyes drinking in every line and curve of my hull. I am tempted to activate my countermeasure suite and vanish before your eyes, to arm my weapons and melt a hole in a mountain for you, to deploy my tactical screen and wrap you in an impenetrable bubble of protection.
"Don't worry, Senpai, I will protect you! S-S-S-Senpai, don't look at me so intensely...*blush*"
"And I am pleased to meet you. I have been assigned as your Commander. Henceforth, you are my responsibility. I shall lead you into battle, guide you and assist you. I will fight by your side and die there if need be. This is my duty."

"I have been assigned as your vehicle. Henceforth, you are my Commander. I will follow you into blackest pits without fear, and smite your enemies without mercy. I will guard your life with my own, and never falter so even the least of my processes still runs. For this is my duty."
I pronounce you now husband/wife and tank. You may now kiss the viewscreen.

Absolutely.

Another idea is Sun Tzu, which I won't vote for unless it gains traction. Still a good name though

[X] Argus

I like the shades of Argo there, as well. Bonus points if the Commander's name is some play on Theseus, as a reference to the Ship of Theseus paradox.

Vetoed, I'm afraid. If you have to post a Wikipedia link to explain who the person was, they are not notable enough to be used as a namesake. Good thought though!

*Shrug* The Commander is an highly educated gentleman (or woman) and a scholar, with knowledge both rare and esoteric. A 'common' hero would be less appealing to him/her, imho.

Because this thing NEEDS Culture name.

Not a bad idea. Don't know if it fits the personal name of our tank AI, though.

Because in love and war the only thing that matters is victory. Also, that update's descriptions seemed somewhat lewd at certain points. :)

Wedding? This is straight up tank porn!
I can see the suppressed haste in your steps and the slightly giddy expression that begins to creep onto your face when you think no one is looking. I am glad, because I can feel the same excitement building inside me. I have studied your file, and I know from your browsing records that you have studied mine.
[...]
You round the final construction bastion and stop dead as you see me. I listen as your heartrate increases and watch as your irises widen. Your mouth has fallen open slightly as you gaze up at my towering hull.
[...]
You stare at me for several more moments, your eyes drinking in every line and curve of my hull.
[...]
I see your facade crack again as you run an admiring hand along one of the smooth hulls I am currently constructing.
'vibes' :D:D:D

Education isn't the problem. Time and cultural drift is. For setting reasons I'm currently unable to reveal, any historical figure whose name isn't globally well known in the 21st Century would not make sense as a namesake for 9968187.

Mmmm... Dem turret housings... Yeah, baby, your thermal ablation strips are so hot! Is that an ICBM in your silo, or are you just happy to see me?

We have a thread with names. Maybe Broadside of a Barn?
"Big Sexy Beast" would work with @HeavyBane and @Nevill's recent line of thought, though "The Precise Nature Of The Catastrophe" might be fun...

These are, naturally, jokes though: 9968187's builders did not come up with a series of highly formalized activation oaths just so the new commander could then name the state-of-the-art megatank "Size Isn't Everything".

Someone deleted wikipedia?

In all seriousness, this would imply that for some reason most detailed cultural knowledge was lost, while technical knowledge was maintained. I have trouble contemplating a scenario in which that may happen.

Wait and see. I promise the naming thing will eventually make perfect sense.
