Repensum est Canicula - XCOM Empire Builder Quest

Would be nice to know what countries to focus on if their mood started dropping.

Alrighty. One Approval Monitor coming right up!

I've been toying around with the idea of my own XCOM thread; one of my ideas would be replacing money with Influence. The players would get influence every turn from the Council Nations, corresponding to the Panic Levels and Approval.

Influence would be spent to make them go along with any ideas they don't approve of, like recruiting The Totenkopf into the research division, or to increase the chances of success for actions (basically convince them to throw more money and people at the problem).

@GrayKnight3445
Question: Does this game take the XCOM's (the computer game) troop numbers and deployments literally or did they have more than one Skyranger? The OP seems to point towards the idea that they did have more than one Strike Team/Skyranger, but I'd like to make sure.

Also, thanks for starting this game!

Ah, I love alien-fighting games where America isn't in charge!

XCOM had much more than 1 Skyranger & 1 strike team. The first update will include the current state of XCOM and its assets.

Thank you for participating! :D

They are a bit of a rarity it feels.

Would it be possible to continue conventional SSTO research? Something like skylon so that we are not too reliant upon elerium and so that we can have civilian space infrastructure go up quickly.

Or we could focus on discovering how to make elerium. That should be top priority, since we seem to be the only ones with capability to research it, and it would give us a tremendous edge in everything.

The problem with that is unless we either sell elerium/transports or space-lift capacity on the civilian market the recovery from the Etherial's satellite destruction will be significantly slower.

Absolutely! Problem is that conventional SSTO takes years or decades to do what Elerium a few months.

Right, so our safest bet is get Elerium production up, and from there....

Just move onto Luna, Earth's overrun and gone to shit.

It's not overrun quite yet, just on fire. We just have to put the fires out before they get too bad.

The fact that the aliens are no longer actively invading (due to their leadership caste going kaboom) will help a lot, but leftover EXALT that have gone to ground - or other human collaborators - might be an issue. Let's also hope that we didn't get too many rogue 'Lids dropped on us.

Maybe you should try gluing the Temple Ship back together while you're at it.
Works for me, Airplane glue work or should we break out the Gorilla stuff?

*Points to OP*

For one year humanity fought the invaders with all of their might. Their efforts lead by the soldiers and scientists of XCOM, an international paramilitary organization made up of the best and brightest humanity had to offer. Some victories were made, such as the capture of an alien battleship during Operation Slingshot and the destruction of their main terrestrial base. There were also many defeats. Japan has become a tomb to over one hundred million souls infested with Chryssalids and zombies. London, Washington, Moscow, and so many other major cities have been either cast into ruin or completely flattened.

It is now the dawn of the new year, less than a month after the war ended. The remaining funding members of the XCOM project (China, Russia, Great Britain, Egypt, Brazil, Australia, Canada,) have formed the Earth Alliance, the closest thing there is to a world government.

Information to be Aware Of
1) Currently the nations of the Earth Alliance are the only pockets of human civilization left. Practically every other nation on Earth has collapsed into anarchy. Warlords and forces belonging to the remnants of the governments battle for control of cities and resources. Warbands of alien survivors also fight for control of their own tiny fiefdoms, and woe be to any human who lives under their yoke.
We don't have the resources to take the planet back, and there's shitloads of Chryssalids around.

We don't have the resources to take the planet back,

All at once no, but we do have the most important resource of all: time.

and there's shitloads of Chryssalids around.

On the Japanese islands. Presumably the aliens targeted them all with massive terror attacks or something sometime before the Temple Ship got popped... or so I would hope. The alternative is rather frightening. As long as no one travels to the islands to do anything but bomb large concentrations of the buggy bastards from the air hopefully we should be fine as far as quarantine goes.

They got targetted by massive terror attacks as retaliation after XCOM captured that battleship and took out their amazon base.

So fist transports then the elerium for the transportation and then we start moving essential infrastructure off of earth.

If things are truly bad and we start loosing ground on earth we can probably leave the earth behind. Preferably using bacteria to seed a habitable biosphere on Mars before the colonists arrive.

This is probably going to be spoiling, but unless you guys deliberately start cocking up every turn you won't be permanently losing any ground.

What's this talk of leaving earth behind?
If forced to, we can strategically withdraw for a time, but we must never, ever, completely give up on HOLY TERRA!

It's our freaken homeworld, it must belong to us, xenos' be damned.

Look, until we know what kind of population we're working with, you're talking about rebuilding most of the Earth. That is a LOT of territory.

Canada, China, Russia, Great Britain, Brazil... even torn to shreds, that's pretty powerful.
And don't get me wrong, I'm under no illusions about how nasty the situation is.
It'll be like pulling teeth, but I think humanity will get on it's feet again if we play our cards properly.
