[x] Violet Tenebris - (TBCW, Initiates combat.)
[x] Random
------------------------------------------

The first screen lands on you. Of course you're going to get picked first... Meanwhile, the other screen lands on a familiar green-eyed, red-haired visage.

"Our first match will be between Violet Tenebris and Pyrrha Nikos." Goodwitch announces, "Please get ready and report to the arena as soon as possible."

As you begin to stand up, you recall something Melinda said about your opponent in the locker room yesterday. One particular sentence echoes in your mind...

"Basically, we're completely fucked if we end up fighting her..."

It honestly can't be that bad to fight Pyrrha, can it? You wonder as you start to walk away.

"Don't let your guard down." Weiss speaks up suddenly.

"Huh, why?" you blink.

"They don't call Pyrrha The Invincible Girl for nothing. She won the Mistral Regional Championships four years in a row. She's not one to be underestimated."

"I'll keep that in mind."

"Break a leg out there, Beacon Buddy" Coral encourages as you make your way out of the room. As you exit, you catch the rest of Team JXMN out of the corner of your eyes. Melinda seems to be giving you a subtle look of pity...

When you reach the locker room, you pass Pyrrha as you enter.

"Hello." She smiles.

"Hey." You return the smile, "So we're the first sparring match of the year, huh?"

"Yes, it seems so... "

"Well, do your best out there."

"You too." she nods, "I'll see you in the arena."

With those words, she departs, leaving you the locker room to yourself. You quickly grab your gear and suit up. Before making your way back to the lecture hall, you check your swords, considering whether or not to swap out any chambers or magazines...

[] Change blades (Current: Gemini 1 - Burn Dust, Gemini 2 - Burn Dust)
-[] Specify blade(s) to change (Gemini 1, Gemini 2, Both)
--[] Ice Dust
--[] Lightning Dust
--[] Remove (No elemental properties on blade)
--[] No change.

[] Change magazine (Current: Gemini 1 - Normal [3/10], Gemini 2 - Normal [3/10] )
-[] Specify weapon(s) to swap. (Gemini 1, Gemini 2, Both)
--[] Normal rounds, new mag (3 available)
--[] Burn Dust rounds (2 available)
--[] No change.

You arrive in the arena, taking a position opposite of Pyrrha, who has her sword and shield at the ready. Professor Goodwitch steps between you and clears her throat.

"As I previously stated, this is a sparring match operating under standard tournament rules. The battle will continue until one combatant's aura drops to critical levels. Continuing to attack an opponent after a match has been called will incur serious consequences. Do I make myself clear?"

You nod, as does Pyrrha.

"Now, let the match begin." Goodwitch states, before stepping back, leaving the floor to you and the so-called Invincible Girl. Quickly, you think of an initial strategy...

[] Take the initiative.
-[] Rush forward into melee.
-[] She's using melee weapons at the moment. Take potshots at her at range.
-[] Summon familiars. (Specify number if desired. Default: 4)
--[] As ranged support.
--[] To flank her while you fight in melee.
-[] (Write-in?)

[] Let Pyrrha make the first move.

[] Forfeit? (May have consequences.)

I recommend using burn dust on our blades as to heat them and make them less magnetic. I won't be much, but it should be effective since Pyrrha tends to use her semblance subtly, I will write up a plan when I am done making dinner.

Expansion and contraction. Metal, when heated then rapidly cooled, grows brittle and weak. It's not much to go on, and might not work at all with Aura, but our only chance to win this is by playing smart.

Shouldn't we try to keep the range and go for artillery blitz? I don't think we can win unless we awaken some dormant power but even chipping a good amount of aura off will be impressive.

So basically the idea here is to use our burn dust to make Pyrrha's subtle semblance use unreliable while also using ourselves as a distraction while our minions that are unaffected by her semblance do the big damage.

Ok, uhh, does Ranged Support mean we go all ranged with our familiars + ourself to bombard pyrrha, and then flanking means... what? They only shoot dark lightning blasts, they don't have melee attacks. How close are they when flanking? Also, I'm guessing from that flank option that we are able to control our familiars precisely enough that they can shoot at pyrrha while we are engaged in melee with her? @Evil_Nazgul0616

EDIT: I am planning to make a write-in after I get info from Nazgul about my questions

I'm going to use the fact that Gooey's Dark Laser doesn't give Zap as an argument for it not being deflected by electromagnetic fields.

The spawns don't need to worry about her semblence after all.

I realised that I forgot to write something.

... and given what I know now, what I had in mind isn't different enough from the flank vote to justify a write-in. Well, whatever.

[BGM]

You open by summoning four familiars as you charge forward. Pyrrha rushes to meet your attack head-on.

[39+10 (from strategy) = 49 Okay]

Pyrrha manages to parry all of your blows easily sending blasts of cold air in all directions as your icy blades make contact with her sword, though your familiars manage to get behind her and start attacking, forcing her to divert her attention between you and them. She blocks a few shots with her shield, but your assault makes this attempt at defense less effective than it would be, and she ends up taking a couple of hits.

Not to be deterred, she quickly changes her strategy. She continues to parry your attacks, but when your familiars next fire, she disengages and dodges to the side. Your eyes widen in surprise as the projectiles from your own familiars hit you square in the chest, knocking you back and shaving off a chunk of your aura.

Seizing the opening, Pyrrha charges you once more. You're reaction time must be slower than you think, as you are unable to get your weapons up to block her in time and end up taking another hit. Sliding backwards in a defensive stance, you eye your opponent cautiously as your familiars regroup...

[] Keep up the same strategy, but position your familiars so that friendly fire is unlikely.
[] Change tactics.
-[] Break off and engage at range. Refresh your familiars when they expire.
-[] Summon a larger group of familiars to distract her, then attack when there is an opening.

Seems I was mistaken. You have no idea how many times I've tried to use that attack to apply Zap and have it fail.

While thinking about it, I realized that the 4 aspects of magic in RWBY line up surprisingly well with the 4 matters in Kirby Star Allies. One possible mapping between the 2 is:
  • Destruction = Darkness
  • Creation = Soul
  • Knowledge = Dream
  • Choice = Heart
While Destruction and Darkness and incredibly obvious, the other 3 are far more ambiguous, largely because Kirby seems to like doing its own thing. (Also with the whole "recreate weapons from memory" thing, you manage to combine Creation and Knowledge.) Not sure what permutation makes most sense in the grand scheme, but it's an interesting observation regardless.

Unrelatedly, I kind of want to see Gemini get destroyed just so we get to see the aforementioned "recreate weapons from memory" thing. The copies would fade after the battle, but it would definitely confuse a few onlookers who are used to her "normal" semblance. Who knows, she may even be able to summon other weapons that she doesn't have a conscious memory of, but that her soul has seen.
Ah, the fun that can be had when completely up to date on the backstories of both source materials. And souls.

I think that was just her dodging instead of usage of her semblance. The first vote option saying "position your familiars so friendly fire is unlikely" supports this.

[94 Success!]

You quickly put some distance between the two of you and switch your weapons to their pistol mode. You begin to shoot her, getting a few hits in before she raises her shield in defense.

Your familiars begin blasting her as well, though she begins strafing to make herself harder to hit, blocking or dodging your familiar's bolts. As you begin strafing in turn, your familiars expire, so you quickly summon four more to take their place. Unfortunately, Pyrrha uses this brief lull to switch her own weapon into its ranged mode, and she begins to take aim at your support.

With a couple of shots, she dispatches two of your familiars, before moving towards you with her shield raised to block your incoming shots. Pointing your twin pistols towards her, you pull the triggers...

...Only to be met with a dull click, indicating that you need to reload. Eyes widening, you are barely able to dodge the incoming shield bash, before you rapidly transform your weapons and swing at her side, meeting Pyrrha's weapon as she turns to block. Your remaining familiars take up positions to the side of her, using their dark bolts to force her to break off.

[] Lunge at her with your blades while she's backing off.
[] Retreat and reload, before resuming your ranged assault.

Hopefully, she isn't able to dodge and have them hit us again while we're 'connected' to her.

Ran out of ammo for Pleasant Dream. Guess we're switching to Lonely Blizzard. (Yes I will continue referring to her attacks by the names from WiKirby)

[10 Fail.]

You flip a switch on your weapons' hilts and inject some extra Dust into your blades, before lunging, seeking to exploit the opening you've been given. Unfortunately, rather than parry, she simply sidesteps your attack and bashes you rather hard with her shield. The force of the blow knocks you away and sends you to the floor.

You have your familiars try to blast her as you attempt to recover, but she still manages to close the distance before you can fully stand. You raise one of your swords to block, only for the blow from her weapon to knock the weapon your hand, sending it skidding across the floor as you take another significant hit to your aura.

Thinking quickly, you roll backwards, directing your familiars to place themselves between the two of you as you spring to your feet. You know that they won't be able to keep her away for long, so you'll need to think of a new plan quickly. A quick glance at the aura gauges on the screen shows that you're currently in the yellow at around 40% aura, and Pyrrha still has around 70% of her aura remaining.

[] Retrieve your weapon as soon as possible. Use familiars to cover you.
[] Continue the fight with your remaining weapon. Retrieving your weapon now might give her more openings to hit you.
[] Reload your remaining weapon and keep her at a distance while circle strafing. Retrieve your other weapon if able.
[] Concede the match. Though with so many people watching it might affect your reputation.
[] Other strategy? (write in.)
