Imagine a city outside of time, floating in the clouds of the sacred realm of the Kais, a mighty hourglass at its centre. Imagine the eternally winding path that is Snake Way around this city and beside it the mighty cage of Tikitoki.
Imagine a police force located within this city, tasked with protecting time itself from those who would distort history for their own ends. Imagine the mightiest warriors of every age battling against demons and monsters from worlds beyond.
Not that you need to imagine these things. As a member of the Time Patrol you have become accustomed to the daily trials and tribulations of time travel. But you haven't had to deal with anything as surreal and mundane as this before. Not only did the ancient and deep voice of a wish dragon awaken you, but your boss, the Supreme Kai of Time herself has gotten involved. Of course she got involved by trying to argue with the dragon, but what can you do?
"I don't care who said you could, you aren't taking one of my Time Patrollers! Do you have any idea how much work it takes to safely remove a mortal from the timestream? And how long I have to spend to get them trained? Nevermind the paperwork I have to fill out-"
The dragon itself looks similar to the wish dragons of Earth and Namek; Shenron and Porunga, but with the horns of a ram, a third eye and a second mouth to distinguish it. It's primary mouth moves once more, the dragon's deep voice echoing throughout the Time Nest.
"Brave warrior. Through a desperate wish, you are summoned to defend world 7 of universe 13." The dragon repeats for the dozenth time, never looking away from you. His words infuriate the Supreme Kai even further.
"You keep saying that! But it doesn't exist! There are only 12 universes, so you'd better tell me who's trying to steal my patrollers!" The silence lasts for what feels like eternity before the dragon responds.
"At the dawn of time, the first Kai wrought 12 seeds from the raw firmament, plundering the infinite potential of chaos to create 12 perfectly ordered universe. The ruins the first Kai left behind congealed together and formed a thirteenth, lesser universe. One unbound by the laws of the Kais but with little potential for growth." The dragon explains. The Supreme Kai of Time clearly has issues with this explanation but the dragon continues before she can speak.
"On one of the worlds of this damaged universe, the remains of a once great empire are ravaged by a relentless horde of monsters. Their guardian was slain long ago. You are called to take his place."
You tune out the Supreme Kai of Time's protests and consider the idea. You don't know why you'd get chosen for the role of planetary guardian, as you possess the lowest power level among the time patrol and aren't capable of creating Dragonballs like Dende the guardian of Earth. Nor can you unlock the hidden potential of a warrior like Guru once could. But you can fight as well as any mortal, so you know you will accept this position.
You Are:
[] Jazz/Punk, the Human Martial Artist
Though you are the weakest of the Time Patrollers, you make up for it by being as dedicated as Percel or the numerous Capsule Corp robots. You are an expert martial artist by any standards , adept in the invention and learning of novel ki techniques as well as an intuitive understanding of the vagaries of time travel. You were recruited just before you signed up for the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, which you now know would have led to your death at the hands of Demon King Piccolo if you had fought.
Perks:
-Native appearance: Jazz easily passes as a native of the world
-Expert Training: Jazz has had the best and most comprehensive training, with the clearest idea on how to improve himself
-Limitless Potential: like all humans, Jazz has no upper limit that can only be broken with a transformation.
Drawbacks:
-The tough road to power: Jazz has no easy route to get stronger. He can only improve himself through training and hard work.
[]Tatsi, the Saiyan Exile
When King Vegeta decided to exile his son Tarble for his own safety, numerous other high class saiyans followed suit. Your parents sent you to the backwater world of Manu due to your cowardice and weakness. You happily joined the Time Patrol the moment you were offered something more interesting than killing giant toads. Since then you have learned to pick your battles, that you don't always have to retreat in the face of overwhelming firepower and of course, the basics of how to fight.
Perks:
-Zenkai Boost: Every time Tatsi survives an otherwise fatal wound, her power grows incredibly
-Oozaru form: Under the light of a full moon, Tatsi can take the form of a giant ape, increasing her power tenfold
-Super Saiyan: In the right situation, Tatsi could unlock the Super Saiyan transformation, increasing her power 50 times over
Drawbacks:
-Cowardice: Tatsi is not a warrior. Her response to a foe is to blast it and then to retreat, only fighting in the most favourable of circumstances.
[] Nerite, the Dragon Caste Namekian
Seventy five years after the defeat of Majin Buu, the demon Mira destroyed New Namek. Your people migrated to Earth and started training, so they could be ready for the next battle. You studied the magics and myths contained in the Namekian books of Legend, preferring to fight from a distance than to engage in fisticuffs. As you sought out the Time Breakers wherever they could be found, it was decided you were a natural recruit for the time patrol.
Perks:
-Alien Physiology: Namekians can survive solely on water, reproduce asexually, posses stretchable arms, regenerate lost limbs and telepathically communicate with their kin via their antennae.
-Legendary Knowledge: You have studied all the Namekian tomes of ancient knowledge, allowing you to know the truth of the universe. Including the secrets of the dragonballs.
-Fission/Fusion: As a namekian you can divide yourself in two seperate beings with a single soul or fuse with another namekian to greatly increase your power level.
Drawbacks:
-I'm a scholar, not a fighter!: You have prioritised knowledge over battle techniques, so you start at a disadvantage in combat. You are obviously not a human.
[] Alakazan, Majin Warrior
Though the Majin race is known to the galaxy as the progeny of the kind hearted Mr Buu, several existed beforehand, the result of Kid Buu's endless rampage and absorption of his foes. After destroying the planet Hera, Buu split himself into his destructive side and the arrogant side that resulted from absorbing the egotistical Herans. You hibernated for years before waking up, traveling to world after world and challenging their mightiest warriors, before absorbing them. This would have turned you into an unstoppable menace, if the Time Patrol hadn't crushed you into paste and forced you to join.
Perks:
-Gooey body: As a majin, Alakazan's body is composed entirely of pink goo, allowing her to be extremely flexible, divide her body mass into 2 independent parts and perfectly regenerate from the smallest parts of herself.
-Absorption: By turning a foe into candy and consuming them, Alakazan can gain on the foes' abilities and strengths. Unfortunately this is best not overused, as absorbing too many people too quickly will turn Alakazan into a completely different being.
-Purify: By venting all parts of herself that aren't pure majin, Alakazan can temporarily reach the power of Majin Buu her progenitor. If Alakazan abuses this ability too much or doesn't absorb someone immediately afterwards however, she will consume all of her ki, reducing her to an unintelligent pile of goo.
Drawbacks:
-Inhuman weaknesses: Alakazan suffers for both over and under using her most powerful techniques. She also looks obviously inhuman to any eye.
[] Arktos, Freeza Clansmen
Though your race is known throughout the universe for the actions of the mutants Freeza and King Cold, you refuse to be stereotyped as an impulsive brute. Though you tend towards cruelty in battle, your power and skill are entirely self earned. You initially joined the Galactic Patrol but went independent as the Planet Trade Organisation fell apart, seeking to end Freeza's legacy. After a fight against the enforcers Abo and Kado where you almost died, your kinsman Percel recruited you to ease his workload.
Perks:
-Paralytic Ki: As a non-mutated clansmen, your ki paralyzes your foes, though it is less powerful as a result.
-Demonic Durability: Freeza clansmen can survive the vacuum of space and recover from any non fatal wound given enough time, including dismemberment.
-Self Designed Form: The true form of race is hidden to all. By shaping your carapace with your ki you decide your appearance and potentially could discover forms that naturally amplify your ki.
Drawbacks:
-Inhuman tendencies: Not only does Arktos not look like any native of the planet, his hatred of his own kin, refusal to work with others and preference for painful yet total annihilation means he will have a hard time adapting to the new world.
[] Triploid, the Bio-Android.
A genetically engineered weapon, built using the DNA of the universe's strongest warriors and then upgraded with the best energy absorbing technology there is. Seeking the perfect army to conquer time, the demoness Towa stole Dr Gero's plans and resources, combining the bio-technology of Cell with the Energy draining of Android 19. You are the third prototype from that experiment and the only viable one. Unfortunately you were too independent for her tastes, joining the Time Patrol to find a fight worth a damn and destroying her lab.
Perks:
-Energy Absorption: Through the mechanical parts in his hands, Triploid is able to drain the energy of his foes if in physical contact with them or their attacks, adding it to his own.
-Inhuman Physiology: Due to his unknown genetic makeup, Triploid could exhibit traits from nearly any other species or individual, from a zenkai boost to the Kamehameha
-Repairable: Triploid knows how to perfectly repair any damage done to him, given time, materials and energy. He could also build spare power absorption systems and other android parts with time
Drawbacks:
-Uncontrollable Rage: In combat can enter a berserker state, greatly increasing his strength but rendering him uncontrollable.
Perks:
-Native appearance: Jazz easily passes as a native of Remnant, name non-withstanding.
-Personal Training: Jazz is self trained martial artist, capable of creating new ki techniques and teaching them to others, as well as training herself.
-Limitless Potential: Like all humans, Jazz has no upper limit that can only be broken with a transformation.
Drawback:
-The tough road to power: Jazz has no easy route to get stronger. He can only improve himself through training and hard work.
Ki Blast: basic ki blast
Flight: You can fly slightly faster than a car (over long distances)
Afterimage Technique: the ability to move so swiftly that an image of yourself is left behind.
Ki Sensing: You can sense the ki of others
Resonant Contralto: A ki infused shout that sends foes flying and cancels out the ki blasts of others. If drawn out can be used to shatter objects
Power Chord: A powerful explosive blast that results from combining five minor ki blasts into one.
Sudden Crescendo: Using the afterimage technique to fool a foe before moving to close range and blasting them with Power Chord before they can react
Ballroom Blitz: A technique that combines the extreme speed required for the afterimage technique with the precision needed for advanced ki manipulation.
By creating dozens of images, all firing ki waves you create an entire ballroom of twirling figures, melodic power dancing through the air from every direction.
-Purple gem shaped like a pear
-Massive tome of lore, written in the language of the Kais.
You Are:
[] Jazz, the Human Martial Artist
As the Supreme Kai of Time blusters on at the ram horned dragon you nod and step forwards.
"I'll do it." You say with confidence you don't really feel. "I'll be the guardian of this desolate world."
"Very well. Farewell your universe." The dragon declares, its eyes starting to glow.
"Wait" The Supreme Kai of Time declares, thrusting her hand forwards. You stumble backwards as her ki flows over you and the dragon freezes in time. Looking around you realise the only other thing moving is Tokitoki, which lazily flies over and perches on your head.
"So you really want to do this then?" She asks, folding her arms as she looks at you. "You want to go protect an unknown planet on a universe I haven't even heard of?"
You think it over. In all honesty patrolling time isn't as satisfying as you expected it to be. Sure you're protecting the timestream, but since no one other than your fellow patrollers really remembers what you've done and you're honestly sick of the way Reso and a few other patronise you for being the weakest.
This is a chance for you to make a truly meaningful difference in people's lives and escape being judged solely on how many of someone else's techniques you know.
"Yes. I really do." You say softly, but with significantly more conviction in your voice.
"You need to understand that I can't bring you back if you change your mind. I don't have any authority outside of Universe 7." She says, looking you directly in the eyes.
"I'll manage." She sighs and shakes her head.
"Fine. I only know who I'll get to replace you." There's a little flash of pink light and time resumes, the dragon's eyes gleaming brighter with every second that passes until red is all you can see.
As the light fades you look around. You're standing on a white, circular platform that definitely looks like Kami's Lookout. Well with the exception of the shattered tiles, the dead trees and the collapsed towers. On the bright side the central building looks pretty intact, though since the sky is as black as the shadows radiated by Mr Popo. The dragon looks at your for a moment before speaking.
"The wish is granted. Farewell." It says, splitting into 7 glowing orange orbs and scattering to the seven winds. You look around again, confused. You can't see anyone around who could have made a wish. Probably not worth worrying about. You head inside the open air structure that you can't help but call a temple and look around. An altar for the dragonballs like in Tokitoki City is at the centre, with a pool of tepid looking water at it's base. A pair of huge dragon statues flank the altar, with a pair of cracked stone doors set into them.
Before you can explore further you hear...
[] The distant wailing of a child [] The clash of a distant battle
[] Grunts of exertion This is basically selecting what year it is
You turn around and focus. There's definitely a child crying nearby, though as you feel the surrounding area you realise nearby is a relative term. The wailing is coming from below you -well below you. Presumably the child is on the world below.
You move to the edge of the Lookout and glance down. Below you is vast expanse of green, stretching from the eastern horizon to the west. To the south is the sea and north the ground turns black.
Focusing your senses you step off of the lookout, allowing yourself to fall to the Earth below. As you descend you look at the surrounding forests, noting a settlement in the most heavily forested area.
A little further down you start making out the details of the settlement. Where you know the centre of the lookout would be is a squat stone tower that you guess only manages to rise a scant 9 stories in the air compared to Korin's Tower.
Around the tower is a simple village, long since abandoned. The plants have grown out from their gardens, covering the area in flowers and fruit bearing trees.
As you land you realise the crying has abated, though you can hear sniffling and the occasional whimper from the least overgrown and arguably the simplest house. You approach it cautiously, making sure you don't look too threatening.
The house itself is made of white wood, with a single room and a solid fence hemming in the only well kept garden in the village. You knock nice and loud on the door, hearing the occupant immediately stop sniffling and start running to the door.
The boy who opens the door isn't really what you expected. Sure he looks human, but the rounded ears on top of his head aren't exactly normal. Well not for humans but that doesn't really mean anything, since you recall plenty of almost human aliens working for Freeza.
He has orange hair with little black stripes on his ears and yellow eyes that flicker from excited to confused as he sees you. He's wearing a dark honey shirt over black pants and no shoes.
"Who're you?" He asks, finally deciding on a suspicious expression.
"I'm Jazz. What's your name." You respond, in what you're certain is a kind tone.
"I'm Jasper Trinil. Why're you here?" He asks, before his ears perk up and his face lights up with hope. "Did Haima send you?"
"No. I decided to come here because I overheard you crying." His face falls for a moment before he turns defensive.
"What do you care if I'm crying." He asks somewhat bitterly before sighing. "You need to go."
"I care because you're a little kid all alone in the wilderness." You say gently. "And I'm not going to be leaving for the same reason."
"This is my home. My place to guard. It isn't safe for outsiders." He says,, looking you straight in the eyes.
"I don't think anything here can hurt me." You say confidently. "What are you guarding? The tower?" Jasper frowns for a moment, obviously thinking about whether or not he should tell the truth.
"The tower and the h-the village, yeah." He says evasively. "Where'd you come from anyway? You don't sound local."
You'll answer... [] With the truth (Everything)
[] With some of the truth (The Lookout) [] With a lie
-[] Write in
Jazz taught herself martial arts. What did she use as inspiration for her training?
[] Music
Techniques:
-Resonant Contralto: A ki infused shout that sends foes flying and cancels out the ki blasts of others. If drawn out can be used to shatter objects
-Power Chord: A powerful blast that results from combining five minor ki blasts into one
(Future Variant: Five Note Flurry. The fiver minor blasts at 5 different targets)
-Ballroom Blitz: Using the afterimage technicque to fool a foe before moving to close range and blasting them with Power Chord before they can react
[] Stellar Bodies
Techniques:
-Starlight Sabre: A blade of ki used for close combat
-Nova Bomber: A ki blast that produces a more powerful explosion than it should for its power level.
(Future Variant: Pulsar Nova: A weaker nova that produces a much brighter flash of light. Can be manipulated after launch)
-Orbital Surprise: A ki blast that goes around a foe, either to strike at them from behind or to strike a different foe.
[] The Supernatural
Techniques:
-Phantom Blast: An invisible ki blast
-Haunting Flare: A flashy ki blast that does little immediate damage but attacks the opponent on a spiritual level after a certain period
-??? (will come up with a third tomorrow morning)
"Up there." You say, pointing to the Lookout. "It's been a while since I've been out and about, so I decided to start with the closest place." Jasper looks at you confused, before following your finger and staring into the sky for a few moments.
"You're from the moon?" He asks confused. You look up yourself and realise that the full moon is clearly visible.
"No, I'm from somewhere a little closer to Earth. Though do keep a bit of a Lookout on the moon." You say, carefully emphasising your words. Jasper looks at you blankly for a moment before realisation dawns on his face.
"Wait, you're the ancient guardian of the Dragon's Lookout?" He asks incredulously. "The legendary warrior of a thousand battles?"
"Yes." You say carefully.
"No way. The guardian is over a thousand years old!" He says, pulling the door all the way open to step forwards.
"I moisturise a lot." You respond with a smirk.
"All the stories say you're a guy!" He yells indignantly.
"Stories change over the years. So why's a kid like you guarding this place all alone anyway?" You ask, keeping your smirk up.
"My family has guarded the tower for centuries. If the lore in there got destroyed by grimm or the wrong people found it, horrible things would happen." He explains, stepping inside and gesturing for you to follow. "But a few years back someone stole a book my sister was studying, so she had to chase after him. But we couldn't leave the tower unprotected, so stayed behind." He explains, sitting on a stool and sagging. "She really should have been back by now though." You step forwards and pat him on the back.
"Chin up kid. After all, I'm back to protect the planet." You say confidently. "How exactly are meant to protect this place anyway? A little guy like you can't exactly scare anyone off."
"With these." He says, pulling a pair of weird looking knives off of his belt. "Tiger claw karambits. The blade is shorter than a normal karambit, but since I'm still small they work fine."
"Huh." You say, taking one of them out of his hands. Other than the weird design it seems like a fairly ordinary weapon. Not that you've ever needed to use weapons. "So you must train a lot to be any good in a fight at your age." You realise. He shrugs and puts his weapons away.
"Well the grimm stay away from the village unless something horrible happens, so I just need to make sure any travelers move on." He explains. "And I haven't really been in a fight. So you're really the legendary warrior then?" He asks hopefully.
"Yes I am. Jazz, Guardian of the planet." You say, remembering that you still don't know very much about the place.
"Could you train me then? Make me strong enough to actually fight like Haima can?" He asks.
"Sure, but on one condition." You decide. "You need to answer any questions I have without asking any of your own, no matter how weird they are."
"Okay." He says happily. "When do we start?"
"As soon as I check out the lore in that tower we'll head up to the Lookout and get started." You tell him, ruffling his hair.
"Great! I'll just grab some stuff." He says as you step outside and fly over to the tower.
Sadly the tower's interior was just as unimpressive as the exterior. Just a spiral staircase leading to a large room full of books and a pear shaped purple gem lying in a small pot. A quick check reveals that the books are all written in a language you only vaguely recognise as that of the Kais. You'd probably be able to translate them eventually, but nothing immediately useful.
After grabbing the thickest book you go back outside, where Jasper is waiting with a small bag.
"Ready to fly kid?" You ask, grabbing him around the chest before he can answer and taking off.
"SortaaaaAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!" He screams as you accelerate.
Once you get back to the Lookout Jasper starts looking around and you take stock of the situation. You're officially the Guardian of a planet who's name you don't actually know and your only assistance is a little kid and incomprehensible books. Still, it could be worse.
You have 3 actions to take over this turn (3 months in universe). One has to deal with Jasper (this restriction will be gone in 2 turns) and the exploration option does count as 2 actions.
You will train Jasper:
[] Like you trained yourself. Only more efficiently, because you know what you're doing now.
[] By finding out how he thinks he should train and working with it. After all, this world's techniques could be stronger than your own. It isn't likely, but it is possible.
You shall personally:
[] Clean up the Lookout and village, focusing on any hidden secrets. Like those two doors beneath the dragon statues. [] Start translating those tomes of lore. It can't be too hard, right?
[] Investigate the gem-pear.
[] Explore the surrounding area for anything interesting
[] Quiz Jasper on the planet and anything else he knows that could be useful [] Try and contact the Supreme Kai of Time. You think you remember the basics of telepathy and long-distance ki sensing.
You gracefully land on the Lookout, silently thanking the local deity that Jasper stopped flailing after half a minute or so.
"Welcome to the Lookout kid."
Jasper is clearly amazed, looking around with wide eyes at your utterly trashed base of operations.
"Its been a while since I cleaned up and clearly the caretaker left a while ago."
You say, noting a lightning rod that has snapped in two.
"We're so high up."
Jasper says astonished, his ears twitching.
"No wonder no one ever found this place."
"Well there's supposed to be a spell to keep intruders away, but it may have worn off over time."
You say with a frown.
"Anyway, down to the details. I said I'd train you and this place really needs to be cleaned up before I can tell people I stay here. So the way I see it there are two ways I could train you. I could just teach you my way, with the flying and stuff, but that would ignore centuries of progress in martial arts techniques. The other way is to watch you train for a while and make my decision on method once I've seen how your training stacks up to mine."
You explain as Jasper nods at everything.
"I'm going to do that, since it also leaves me free to get this place cleaned up before we start on the intensive training."
You continue, easily reading Jasper's disappointment and determination from his face.
"How do you train anyway?"
"I follow the moves drawn in this old book."
Jasper says, pulling it out of his bag.
"By mastering the methods of fighting I'll achieve oneness of soul and body."
He says, reading out of the book.
"Fairly standard idea then."
You say with a nod.
"First you learn about violence, the art of hurting other people. Then you learn about yourself."
You muse, remembering the magazines that originally inspired you to start martial arts.
"Anyway, I'd better get started. Nothing ever cleans itself unless its a cat."

You get up before the sunrise and grab a meal of fruit and berries, noting that the cupboards in Jasper's place are bare of anything that couldn't be gotten in the village and that everything for actual cooking hasn't been used recently.
Jasper rises at sunrise and runs laps around the lookout until he falls over tired.
Sadly he only manages three.
After he eats the food you give him he starts going through poses from the book, cutting at imaginary foes and blocking imaginary attacks.
Analysing the style you note that he's using the karambit similar to how most traditional martial artists use knives.
He mixes slashes with punches, mimes deflecting a powerful blow and leading straight into a throat cut. Weirdly most of his moves seem to assume a much larger foe. And not a man sized foe, but one the size of a bear.
When Jasper's arms get sore he flips through the book, practising various stances and muttering passages. After getting frustrated with the book he starts running again.
Assured that he's settled into a excercise you start removing the dead trees. No sense in wasting time after all.
{1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {6} {7}
A few nights later you grab Jasper's training book and flip through it. Its written in an archaic script but its not too hard to understand the gist. The foreword talks about enlightenment through training body and soul, mentioning something about 'great and unique power' that will be unlocked.
The drawings depict what appears to be a saiyan with a furred tail fighting humans and beasts. A lot of dramatically drawn beasts.
"Jasper. Whats with the animals in this book?"
You ask him the next morning.
"What do you mean animals?"
He pauses in his routine and and frowns as he speaks.
"The big black beasts in the diagrams. Why did the artist expect someone need to fight so many animals?"
You say, flipping to one depicting a spinning boar.
"Everyone has to fight the Grimm. They don't really give you a choice."
The matter of fact way Jasper says this belies his sudden nervousness. Which of course means you need to know more.
"What exactly is a Grimm?"
You ask, noting the immediate confusion Jasper shows.
"You don't know about the Grimm?"
He says raising, his eyebrows.
"I've been asleep for a really long time."
You say, trying to deflect the question. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work.
"But the legends say you slaughtered them by the hundreds at the Battle of Scarlet Valley!"
Jasper says indignantly. This could be an issue, but you have a way to handle it for now.
"Jasper, remember our deal? Just answer the question."
You say gently. He sighs in response and nods.
"Oh, right. The Grimm are soulless abominations that take on the form of animals. They seek to obliterate humans and faunus alike and all we have created. So anyone who intends to live outside of he four kingdoms has to be able to fight them."
He says, frowning and lost in memory.
"So the kings do a good job in keeping their subjects safe then?"
You say, trying to distract him from questioning you further.
"I guess."
He says with a shrug.
"I've only heard stories. I don't think the kings have any power after the war though."
That sounds really strange.
"Back to work kid. You'll never get stronger if you slack off."
You say, leaving complex questions for later. Like when you have someone other than a five year old to question.
{1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {6} {7}
Cleaning out the Lookout is a task that is more complicated than you expected, especially since you'll need new tiles and other construction materials to repair most of the damage. That said you've managed to plant new trees and got rid of the dirty water from the fountain, so you are making progress.
More concerning than your inability to fully repair the damage is the dusty interior of the lookout. The doors beneath the dragon statues lead to numerous dark corridors and rooms that don't seem to correspond to any sensible floor plan that you can think of.
Only after you decide to draw a map to you realise why this is - the interior corridors form the symbol of a Kami, with each statue leading to a different part of the symbol. Once you manage to find a truly ancient set of keys in what might have been a bedroom before all the furniture rotted away you can say you've seen almost every room in the lookout.
Well, except for three that completely lack keyholes, don't budge no matter how hard you push them and have the only non-faded paint in the lookout upon them.
The first sealed door bears a circular symbol not unlike that of the Time Breakers painted in blue. The second sealed door features 28 orange stars arranged to resemble the head and body of a dragon. The third sealed door is located at the centre of the lookout and at the lowest point of the interior and is painted with a symbol clearly intended to represent a gust of wind in green.
Once you clear out the dust and mold from every room in the interior you start furnishing it. The only options are simple wooden furniture from the abandoned houses, but sleeping in the lookout feels infinitely better than sleeping in someone else's long abandoned house.

After a few months of dedicated training you can definitely see a difference in Jasper, though he probably can't tell. He's definitely got more muscle on his tiny frame and goes through his training regime with loads more confidence. You haven't done much beyond show him a more efficient running technique and occasionally acting as a dummy for him to practise on.
You kept finding out information from him though. The common forms of Grimm and their abilities, the fact that the world is called Remnant, the names of the kingdoms and their relative locations and something new - hunters.
Apparently they act as the primary protectors of Remnant, roaming the wilderness and fighting the Grimm. From what Jasper has said they pride themselves on individuality - which makes some sense considering how eclectic the Z Warriors and Time Patrol can be, but it also doesn't sound like it's produced a unified defence force to actually drive the monsters back.
You never expected you'd think this, but it sounds like the Red Ribbon Army would actually be a good thing for this place.
It also doesn't sound like they know much about ki. Jasper says he's never heard of someone flying and you haven't sensed the intermittent flares of energy that crop up when someone uses ki blasts.
Apparently your predecessor could do both, destroying numerous Grimm with a helix shaped beam and managing to travel between kingdoms in hours. Useful information to know.
{1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {6} {7}
A few days before your third month on Remnant Jasper starts asking questions. Well, he starts expecting answers at least.
"How do you fly anyway?"
You pause and think before answering.
"By pushing my ki downwards I create a platform of sorts. There's a lot more to it, but that's how you start and once you can float a little the rest comes naturally."
You explain, deliberately floating a little bit above the ground.
"Why do you ask?"
"Well, you'll teach me to fly right?"
Jasper asks, looking both nervous and hopeful.
"Eventually. I'd have to teach you about ki manipulation first, and I'd prefer to save that for after you have a better grasp of the basics."
"But you could tell me about ki now right? You said that training my mind is as important as my body."
He says, throwing something you'd off-handedly said five weeks ago in your face.
You blink for a moment before talking. Afterall, he can't really use this knowledge to hurt himself.
"Your ki is literally your life force. It exists as a tangible force within every living being and can be drawn out of yourself, to exceed your physical limits. It is composed of your mind, your willpower and your strength."
You say, creating a small orb of ki on your finger.
"By channeling your ki throughout your entire body instead of your centre you can increase your strength and speed well beyond what should be your physical limits. You can manipulate it to create waves of energy to assault your foes with or to fly."
You send the ki wave flying, seeing Jasper stare, utterly fascinated by it.
"My blast has the same energy as a punch. So alone it's just punching someone from a distance."
You explain as the wave detonates.
"But I can store this energy up, making the blast the equivalent of two or three of my punches at once."
You form a much larger orb of ki in your hand, sending it flying once more and producing a much larger explosion.
"To create a more powerful blast I could charge it up for longer. Or I could manipulate it carefully."
You form an orb of ki over each finger of your right hand.
"Five ki waves together would be a powerful blast. But I know my ki. I know how to shape it. By combining them in the right manner..."
You say, firing off your Power Chord technique. Once it is a safe distance away id detonates, creating a brilliant lightshow and ringing out the distinctive sound it is named for.
"I can increase it's power exponentially. Any other questions?"
You say smugly, as Jasper if obviously dumbfounded.

Your first three months on Remnant have been surprisingly quiet, considering what you've learned. Beset by monsters called Grimm, you can honestly say they need a guardian.
You apprenticed a local youth and have learned a decent amount about this world from him, though you have been lying to him about your identity.
You've cleaned all the debris and dust out of your base of operations and learned that it has secrets to tell. But what do you do over the next three months?
How to train Jasper: [] Have him keep going like he has been
[] Personally train him in your fighting style
[] Personally train him in the fighting style that is in his books.

Personal Trainer, Translation Frustration and a Fight?
Training Jasper is definitely your first and biggest project. So you'll sure to wake him up at sunrise every morning for the training. Admittedly the training will be more standard for a martial arts school than your own intense evolution of jazzercise or the weighted extremes of the Kame school, but there's clearly some sort of end goal in the books and you might as well pursue it properly.
You'll start every morning by drilling him on the basics - strikes, blocks and stances. After breakfast you'll make him properly exercise, running laps followed by whatever you tell him to do - squats, push-ups, weights, pull-ups and so on.
Once you're convinced he's tired you'll give him a short break before making him use his brain - you'll teach him what you remember of mathematics and science while improving his literacy.
After you get bored you'll spar him, him with his karambits and you either unarmed or with a sword-like stick.
Once you finish beating him you'll break for lunch and leave him to reading his books while you either translate the divine books or keep improving the Lookout. Hopefully you'll find a key or somethi-
"You're going to teach me how to fly, right?"
Jasper asks, interrupting your planning.
"Eventually, yes." You say. "I'll have to leave the Lookout and actually get to work on the business side of being a guardian - fighting monsters, giving vague advice and mysteriously looming over important events."
You explain, smirking at the thought of basically being Gandalf.
"And when I do, you'll need to be able to feed yourself while you look after the Lookout or maybe keep up. So that means flying is something that I will have to teach you. When you're ready of course."
Jasper is grinning at the thought of being your sidekick-well you assume that's what.
"Sooo, when will I be ready?
"Soon. First I need to train you myself."
"Cool."
You grin at the schmuck bait.
"But first, push-ups. Go."

Sadly translating a completely unknown language is harder than you expected. After all, you're a fighter, not a scholar.
That said, you do make progress. You can recognise the symbols for Kai, Supreme, Demon and God and you think you can recognise the difference between the many symbols that could mean god.
The thickest book is almost definitely about the creation of the universe, and there are definitely six books on the dragon balls, judging by the cover. And a seventh book is missing.
Judging from the pictures in several of the other books they're about individual species - saiyans, namekians, brenchians, freeza's mysterious race, humans, various combinations of humans and animals, metalmen, whatever the hell Appule is, tuffles, kanassans, arlians, etc.
It seems to detail Namekian fusion and fission, along with the many variations on Super Saiyan.
These books could tell you everything you need to know, answer your every question, solve every problem! If you could understand them. Still, you don't really have a better solution than to keep trying.

One afternoon a couple of weeks into the new training regime, you find yourself trying to repair one of the four miniature towers that you think are solely on the Lookout for looks.
As you try and remember the paragraph you once read about tiling, you feel a twinge of power through your ki sense. You turn away from the pointless building and focus. You can feel something happening 10 kilometres west - two fairly normal ki signatures and a mass of oily ki that you can't really pinpoint.
You drop to the ground and run over to Jasper.
"Hey kid. There's a fight or something happening to the west, you expecting anyone?"
Jasper sits up from what was probably a nap, looking confused.
"I'm up. How do you know there's a fight?" He says, rubbing his head.
"Part of being a master martial artist like me is knowing how to sense ki. And I can sense two people fighting something that way." You explain, pointing west.
"My sister wouldn't bring anyone back, so I'm not expecting anyone."
"Alright, 10 kilometres is two hours or so walking and most fights only last a few minutes."
You say, thinking it over. "So I could go now and see what's what, or we go down to the village and make it look like we've actually been living there before the fighters could get here."
"Why would you need to do that?" Jasper asks.
"Because the Lookout isn't much of a secret base if I don't keep it a secret." You explain.
"Of course the abandoned village probably won't give anything away on its own." You will...
[] Investigate the fight
-[] And observe
-[] And join in
[] Prepare the town for the possibility of strangers
[] Hide and observe via your ki sense.
You think over your options for a moment. You could avoid all contact with the strangers, but where's the fun in that?
"Keep training. I'm going to see what the situation is."
You decide, speedily flying away before Jasper can say anything. You deliberately don't accelerate to your top speed, since that'd involve making your aura extremely visible.
You arrive in less than a minute and your ki senses don't tell you anything new. Shrouded in the clouds you focus and observe.
Below you two humans are fighting the black beasts that Jasper called Grimm. Even though you can see the individual creatures, their ki still feels like one oily mass. Albeit one that is shrinking as the humans steadily slaughter their way through the animals.
You descend carefully, doing your best to stay out of sight. Once you reach ground level you move forwards, keeping the trees between you and the humans. You sit comfortably in a branch when you get close enough, happily watching the fight.
A pair of humans, one wearing red and the other white are fighting black boars, wolves and weird two legged things. Both humans are wearing what looks like stylised armour.
The human in white is far more acrobatic than the one in red - a man you realise. While the red man stays still the human in white is flipping around, spearing animal after animal.
You blink as you properly take in the details. The human in white is a woman, armed with a metal lance. Her acrobatics are coming from the lance - some sort of propellant coming from it's pentagon shaped hand guard. The woman never stops moving, disregarding the creatures she spears through as she targets even more.
In comparison then man in red is wielding a heavy one-handed sword, cutting his way through the animals with heavy overhead blows, using his gauntleted left hand for punching and grappling. He occasionally imbues his blade with some sort of power, causing his slashes to create crescent shaped waves that cut their way through the creatures.
Though the fight is visually impressive, you can't help but criticise the humans. They are both dependent on their weapons, the woman far more than the man. They don't feel like they're using ki and looking carefully you see that the blade waves starting in the hilt of the red man's sword. Considering that the woman's lance probably shouldn't be able to spin her around like it does you assume they have something - maybe they're like Triploid, using multiple types of ki to avoid being easy to scan.
They manage to kill the last of creatures within a minute or two, the man grinning as he cuts the last boar in two.
"Told you. Three minutes to clear them out."
"We should have been quicker."
The woman complains, the point of her lance coming apart and sliding into the handguard, which you realise functions as a shield, albeit one with a hole in the centre.
"Those were young Grimm, practically babies. Students could have wiped them out before we did."
The man snorts and sheathes his sword.
"And how many rounds would they have wasted? How much dust would have been used in flashy theatrics to bring down the group? My way was better."
"The five round challenge.'
The woman says with a grin.
"You-."
She falls silent as you shift on your perch, the tree creaking minutely. The two turn and look straight at you, the man with his hand on his hilt and the woman's lance spiraling back out.
What do you do?
[] Reveal yourself
-[] Act friendly, pretending to be a local
-[] Act friendly and identify yourself as the guardian
[] Stay hidden
[] Bail
So I can't find decent pictures I could use for these guys, but the woman is wearing slightly more armour than Cardin does while the man wears significantly more.
There's 1 kudos up for grabs if you can guess the inspiration for these 2.

Well, they've clearly spotted you. So you push of the tree branch, dropping down until you're almost on the ground before flying towards them, slow enough that you don't come off as a threat.
"Hi there!" You say cheerily, greeting them with a wave as you land in the clearing. The woman raises her eyebrows in surprise as the man in red sighs and runs a hand through his brown hair.
"And you are?" The woman asks.
"I'm Jazz, Guardian of Remnant. Who're you?"
The woman looks at you skeptically before glancing at the man, who's looking straight at you, a serious expression on his rugged face.
"Bianca Essex. That's Carnelian. What are you doing out here?" She says, frowning and crossing her arms.
"Investigating you guys actually. Your fight was the first interesting thing that's happened around here since I woke up." You say, your smile growing wider as Bianca slips her shield onto her belt.
"Since you woke up? What happened yesterday that was more interesting than us?" Bianca says, gesturing at herself and Carnelian.
"Well I went to sleep a few thousand years or so ago and things apparently started going to hell. So someone got fed up with this and used the dragon balls to wake me back up." You explain, glancing at the dissolving Grimm corpses as you do. Now that you think about it, self disposing corpses is really useful but really weird. Why do they do that?
"Wait. How did they find a dragon, and how does a dragon's test-" She starts to say in confusion, but Carnelian cuts her off with his own realisation.
"So the stories are true then? There's such thing as a magical wish granting dragon that you can summon with the 7 dragonballs?" He asks.
"Yep. If you manage to gather the 7 dragon balls you can summon the eternal dragon to grant you any wish. So long as you don't wish to kill someone stronger than the dragon's creator of course." You say with a frown, realising you have no idea who's power the dragon is drawing on.
"But yeah. Someone wished me back, the balls scattered to the seven winds and I couldn't find whoever it was."
"Well this might explain a lot." Carnelian says rubbing his chin.
"Would the dragon affect the weather at all?"
"Well whenever you call upon a wish dragon the sky goes blacker than anything you can imagine. Which generally results in a bunch of clouds appearing out of nowhere." You say, thinking of the stormy skies that always accompany Shenron and Porunga.
"We got sent out here to investigate the cause of the freak storms that made interkingdom shipping impossible over the last few months." He explains.
"Since at least one angry ex-employee with plans to make a weather controlling machine vanished into the wilderness recently, Horizon decided it was worth getting professionals to check it out."
"So hunters take commissions now? Guess you learn something new every day." You say as you feel something oily approaching.
"But this is probably a conversation best had in safety." You say, turning and firing a Power Chord at the approaching bear.
"I've been staying at an abandoned village to the east. Meet me there and we'll talk."
You say as your blast detonates and leaves only a few wisps of black smoke. You take off before they can respond - you should probably tell Jasper about this.
{1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {6} {7}
In less than a minute you're back at the lookout, well ahead of Bianca and Carnelian. Jasper is actually awake now, his karambits holstered on his belt and he's clearly washed himself.
"I found the fighters. A pair of hunters against a horde of Grimm. They're heading to the village now, wanna meet them?" You ask casually.
"Yes!" Jasper says, his ears twitching in excitement.
"Then we need to go over some ground rules. No mentioning the Lookout or any relevant legends that they don't know - I want to see what is remembered by people that don't have an ancient duty related to me." You say, mentally going over what you've said to him.
"They're here to investigate a weather disturbance which may have been caused by the dragon when I was woken up. So they know something at least. Anyway, let's go." You say, grabbing his shoulder and taking off.
After you land Jasper sits on the fence of the only really livable house in the village while you sit on the air, making sure you're eyes will be on the same level as Carnelian's.
Also you're floating a meter or so off of the ground, which is always fun when people try and get more serious than you.
When the hunters arrive you examine them in more detail as they walk through the winding path that isn't overgrown with fruit trees or flowers.
Bianca is wearing pieces of white plate armour detailed with gold over something green - maybe a one piece body suit or something. Her pentagonal shield is strapped to her right forearm and fully retracted - not only is the hole gone, but you can now see that it greatly resembles a symbol on her more ornate left shoulder guard - a vaguely pentagonal white rose. Unlike Carnelian she doesn't have a helmet - instead she wears a metal headband with her short blonde hair.
Carnelian in comparison wears a full suit of dark red plate armor, complete with helmet. There's some done in a dark silver, in particular a patch over his heart that makes a pentagonal red rose stand out - either these are personal symbols or they belong to a greater organisation. Either is possible.
His large sword is hanging on his belt and his helmet is tucked under his arm as the two come into view, his cropped dark hair managing to look fairly good despite the fight he was just in.
"So, who are you?" Bianca says, looking at the tiger boy next to you.
"I'm Jasper." Responds, waving at the hunters.
"He's basically my assistant." You explain.
"And he isn't the one who wished you back." Bianca says doubtfully. "So how'd you find him then?"
"He was living here when I woke up. But that isn't too important right now. What comes next? You go home and tell your boss that there's a dragon that grants wishes?" You ask.
"God no." Bianca says."Tell a corporation about a dragon that can grant any wish? We'll just say some nomad with a weather manipulating semblance went and killed himself drinking dust. It's happened before."
You look at them for a moment, doing your best to keep confusion off of your face - you can ask Jasper what that stuff is later.
"Is that common?" You ask, going for a safe option.
"Not really. Semblances that affect such a wide area are pretty rare, and it's practically impossible to get dust in a consumable form in one of the kingdoms, let alone the wilderness." She says.
"So you're just going to lie to your boss for me? I'm flattered." You say.
"We'll be telling people." Carnelian interrupts. "Just not Horizon."
"Smart. Hope they're trustworthy." You say. "That said, it's not like knowing about the balls will do anything. They're scattered all over the planet."
"You never know, someone might get lucky." He says.
"So what happens now?" Jasper asks.
"We'll need to start heading back." Bianca says, pulling some sort of electronic tablet out of a bell pouch. "Horizon went and put a time limit on the mission, so we won't get payed if we don't get back in a month."
"Your bosses sound like great guys to work for." You say with a smile.
"Lien is lien." Carnelian says with a shrug. "We're heading to Vale from here and then we'll go overland to Vacuo before crossing back over here. The round trip should take us a year, give or take a couple of months."
"Brilliant." You say. "Hey, when you come back could you bring me…

After the four of you share a meal the hunters set off, to return eventually. You mentally note that they're heading East, which means whatever Vale is it's that way.
You get back into the routine after they leave, making sure to subtly question Jasper on the new information.
{1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {6} {7}
"I'm guessing you don't know who or what Horizon is then?" You ask Jasper as he strains to perform pull-ups.
"Nope. Haima would be the one to ask there. She's actually been somewhere other than the village." He responds.
"Which also means you don't know who Bianca and Carnelian would trust over them." You muse.
"It could other hunters that mentored them, or maybe the rest of their team." Jasper says. "I think they operate in teams of four."
"If true that says a lot." You say. "I can't imagine being in a team of four and hiking across Grimm filled wilderness in only a pair." You say, mentally adding 'not at their power level anyway.'
"So what's a semblance?"
A semblance is a unique thing everyone has - something you can do with your aura that no one else can." He says, pausing for breath. "My father's allowed him to send dozens of foes flying while empowering allies."
"Aura." You say. "I was assuming it was a new term for ki but that may not be so. Can you learn to perform someone else's semblance?"
"No, never." Jasper says, letting go of the bar in surprise, landing fairly gracefully.
"Weird. And dust is?"
"Dad always said it was crystals that fell from the stars. Mom said that lots of people didn't agree with that though." He says, standing up. "It comes in a bunch of elemental types and can be used for energy or fighting. I haven't seen any myself though."
"So much for that." You mutter. "Back to squats shrimp." You say.
