Please, when he wakes up, he'll need a friend waiting, Wolf.
"Hey dad, why doesn't it do anything?" the boy asked his father while lugging the sack that was much larger than his small frame. "You think it's dangerous?"
The father looked over at the strange creature that resembled a dog made out of metal. It hardly did anything but sit on top of the hill. The large bags over his shoulder and under his arm shifted as he gained a better grip on them. "There's not much to worry about, it keeps to itself. As long as it isn't hurting any of the villagers there's no problem. Besides, Devola and Popola assured everyone it was harmless."
"I guess so..." he pouted as curiosity ate away at his young mind. "You think it gets lonely? It's like it's waiting for something, or someone." the boy almost tripped over a rock, but his father's steady leg stopped him from falling. His cheeks burned red as his father chuckled.
The father took the large sack out of the boys possession, the added weight seemed to cause no inconvenience to his massive frame. "Everyone gets a little lonely sometimes, don't you think Yonah does whenever you decide to help me for the day?" The father looked over at the children running around the fountain in the distance, laughing without a care in the world. "We all need someone, family and friends are important, don't forget that."
The boy crossed his arms as the wind blew through the grass. "Family and friends, huh?" his father and sister were the most important thing in the world to him, he couldn't imagine life without them. He looked back at the mechanical hound and wondered if it had something important as well? What drove it to wait as it did?
"I'm leaving you behind if you don't hurry up!" his father teased from further up the grassy hill.
The boy protested his fathers booming laugh, his legs moved to catch up. "Y-you can't just leave me, Dad!"
Bladewolf sat on the hill that overlooked the village, he watched as the father and son returned to their home. It was a routine he observed, one of many in the small but bustling village. He didn't know what happened, the world changed, it became more primitive than what it once was. The AI had often wondered if this is what fear was, he was so confused and there was nothing he could cling to.
"You could always join me sometime at the fountain, you must get bored just sitting here all the time." Devola pointed out as she plucked away at the strings on her instrument. "Popola wouldn't mind if you sat with her in the library either." Bladewolf couldn't understand what happened to the world, how long had he slept?
Why was Raiden still sleeping?
Devola sighed as the wolf stayed silent. He was there when humanity was at it's peak, she couldn't help her curiosity. What must have it been like?
"There were cities filled with humans, everywhere you could see. Buildings that almost seemed they touched the clouds." Bladewolf wasn't sure if it's what she wanted to hear, but he had learned how to become more descriptive with his explanations. Humans appreciated that more than simple statements. "Vehicles that were faster than I am, some were able to go into the vast sea, the moon and further."
Devola continued to play even as she was caught off guard by his speech. This was the first time he had said anything. Her hair fell down as she looked at her fingers that continued to move. Even with his monotone way of speech, she felt there was something more to his words. "...Are you sad to see them reduced to this?"
Bladewolf considered the question, birds chirped nearby. He was not human, he did not 'feel', not in the same way that humans typically described it. "I am not capable of feeling sadness, I am indifferent to the population of humanity."
The androids fingers stopped, her hand trembled. "How could you say that? Aren't you even a little upset over the state your masters have been reduced to?"
"I may resemble a dog, but I am no one's pet or slave." Bladewolf's tail brought a white flower towards his face. "Humans had the capacity for terrible things, greed and power were often their downfall. They were able to commit great acts of destruction." His tail placed the flower on Devola's lap. "They were also able to perform acts of unexplainable selflessness. I was created and chained by humans, a weapon to be used at their discretion."
Devola took the flower in her hand, it was a lunar tear. A flower often said that it was able to grant wishes. The way he described humanity was completely foreign to her, she really couldn't believe it. They've been working so hard to survive and live, it was impossible to think they were selfish.
"...but I was also saved by a human, one who helped me understand and reach the freedom I desired. Even as his life broke apart, even as he began to lose everything he loved, he still only thought of saving others."
Devola continued to play her instrument as the Wolf continued to wait.
[X] In the large building at the end of the bridge.
With a small push, A2 opened the door to the curious building. The darkness swam away from her as the light chased it away. She stepped over the rubble, her attention focused on the stairs, where a figure seemed to rest on them. An unmoving android, snow white hair was caked with blood, as was the rest of his clothing.
Her eyes were cold, her expression stern. "Were you the one that made that mess out there?" she had to question noticing the sword gently in his grasp stained red. "Is that why you're in this state now?" A2 paused and noticed she was being too inquisitive.
What did it matter?
It wasn't her problem.
This was a mistake, she shouldn't have followed Raiden and Bladewolf. There was no reason for her to offer help. A2 hated the crushing solitude, and the whispers of guilt as the last survivor of her squad.
Then, there was that unbearable love for humanity. The unconditional love that she still had for her creators. The love that made her continue to fight even as her body would crack and break under the strain. She was made to combat machines, even as she was abandoned by YoRHa the attack unit still did her duty and slain her enemies.
All for the glory of mankind and revenge.
She was getting invested into this conflict again, she chided herself and her innate curiosity. If only she had isolated herself just a bit longer she may have been able to stomp that part of herself away. The android was met with constant hostility, hunted nearly every day. To finally find others that didn't want to just destroy her-
A2 continued up the stairs, towards the large door. The soft humming grew clearer but still as low as a whisper. The android was drawn closer, and she opened the large door to what resembled an opera theater. Soft whispers continued to coax her into moving forward, towards the large stage and the enormous red curtains.
Such beautiful hair, come closer and become beautiful with me.
The sound of shattered glass snapped A2 out of her trance. She didn't even notice that she was so close to those red curtains, so close to revealing what was behind them. Her sight shifted to her back, as two figures fell from the roof.
9S stood up and caught 2B's attention. "2B that's an android! A YoRHa type android!"
"Alert: This unit is currently wanted by YoRHa. Annihilation recommended." Pod 042 informed the androids.
A2 removed her hand from the red curtain and turned around. She closed off her doubt like countless times before and met them with cold eyes.
"Annihilation? Why!?"
2B stepped forward, her hand latched onto her sword from her back and swung forward, ready to fight the android in front of them.
"Let's go, 9S."
"2B!" 9S didn't understand, 2B seemed ready to fight without hesitation, as if she's done this before!
A2 blinked in recognition of the android's designation. Wasn't that the name of the android Raiden was searching for? She didn't seem injured or lost. No, she seemed ready to fight A2. The rogue knew behind that visor, she was being given the same eyes of determination.
2B was willing to kill her.
Did that mean her suspicions were correct? Did Raiden simply lead her into a trap all along? A2's finger twitched as her sword materialized in her hand.
She really was a fool.
"Bunker to 2B and 9S." The Commander's voice rang from their pod, 9S gripped his sword tightly. Were they really going to fight another android? An ally? "We picked up a signal from the black box of a fugitive known as A2."
"What you see in front of you is your enemy."
"But she's-" an android, one of us!
"She deserted us. She's destroyed multiple pursuit androids. Now kill her, before she kills you!"
9S couldn't let this happen, not like this! So he did what he knew best, in order to stop the conflict with minimal injuries.
He hacked into A2.
A2 gripped the side of her head. The attack unit yelped, she grit her teeth. It was painful! Nothing like when any of the other androids that hunted her tried. Enough that she fell to her knees, even the rest of her body felt the vibrations of pain. "Stay out of my head!" she yelled, everything felt like it was going to burst!
The overwhelming pressure of being hacked stopped. 9S fell backwards as a spark ignited from his body.
"What the hell?" 9S muttered, smoke escaped his lips. He only got a glimpse, A2 had decent resistance against hacks but he was a scanner model! She wouldn't be able to force him out like that!
"Counter hack successful." Pod 573 announced as it floated to A2's side.
9S stared at the pod, there was something different about it. It wasn't a normal unit, what the hell was that thing!?
"Heh." A2 smirked while she shakily got back to her feet. "At least you're useful for something." she gently tapped the side of her head and blocked the strike 2B attempted while A2 tried to gather herself together. "You really wanna do this? I've destroyed androids like you plenty of times."
2B didn't respond and simply kicked A2 away, providing enough distance for the battle unit's pod to fire a giant laser aimed at the rogue android. A2 skid to a stop and leaned to the side to avoid the attack. With a twist and release from her hand, her massive blade sheared itself through the air towards the battle unit. A2's hand swiped through the air behind her. She gripped 9S in mid air as he tried to attack her from behind.
The scanner gasped as she tightened her grip against his throat. "Why!?" he gagged out desperate to know the answer. "Why did you betray us!?"
"Let go of him!" 2B yelled as she came from the side, nearly slicing A2 in half. 9S was sent flying as the female androids clashed again.
9S collided with the wall, with a grunt he tried to pick himself up. His right arm was shattered and he didn't even register her ripping it off of him. He wasn't made for combat and that Pod the attack unit had with her prevented him doing his job as a support. He had to do something, they weren't ready for something like this, they were unprepared and outclassed.
2B suppressed her gasp of pain as she was send flying by laser from Pod 573. Counter fire from Pod 042 prevented A2 from exploiting the advantage. The androids stopped without a sound, waiting for the other to make a move.
So beautiful, the beauty of conflict
A2 trailed her sword across the ground, 2B's attention was caught by the action. A2 smirked, a moment's attention was all she needed. Her heel was a blur, the ground exploded, debris and dust. She knew it would take a moment or two for the enemy android's visor to scan through the distraction. That was all the time she needed.
2B was propelled into the wall, a large gash laid across her form. The android struggled to rise, her body desperately trying to recover the damage as quickly as possible. The only thing she remembered was an overwhelming amount of force and the color red.
An overabundance of red.
A blade tickled her throat, it was hard for 2B to concentrate on A2. The attack unit's form exploded into crimson energy, enough to crack the ground beneath them. 2B was prepared for the strike that would cut her down...
Givemeyourmybody
A2 swung her katana above her, the body of an unmarked android split to pieces. Androids laid upon crosses of steel, stripped to their bare skeleton, shot down to the ground. Others fell from the theater stands and the podium. Steel pipes instead of swords were brandished by them. They continued to slowly move forward as the red curtains began to be pulled back.
"Looks like everything is out to get me today." A2 flicked her sword with a scowl. "It's really beginning to piss me off." Another whisper to her ears, that strange humming tickled her senses. Her body exploded with more crimson energy, her giant sword materialized in her grip. Within the crimson lights laid a ghoulish grin. This was it, she could feel her body breaking apart, she was at her limit.
A broken energy regulator, a fuel filter ready to fizzle out. She was a mess, held together by fragile pieces that continued to be battered beyond their use. Pod 573 floated in front of her and she almost laughed, it almost seemed concerned. "Unit A2, it is inadvisable to continue with the current course of action. Proposal: Retreat from this battle."
She pushed the pod out of her face with a scowl. "Shut up, Tin Can."
"I desire it." A machine clad in red cloth and adorned with android bodies like jewelry, the humming became louder from the stage.
This would be her last battle, she knew that better than anyone else.
"Give it to me!"
"I don't have much longer..."
"Join me and I could make us oh so beautiful!"

[X] A large and tightly shut door that lead to a castle.
Raiden stared at the large door that blocked his path, at a glance it resembled wood but it was actually made of something a lot sturdier, he couldn't really place what kind of material it was. He supposed he could cut it down easily enough.
"You can't go in, it's closed off to outsiders." Raiden turned to his side, a small machine, covered in a black cloak, fiddled with something in it's hands, how did he not notice it? "No one's allowed in unless you're invited."
"Invited?" Raiden mumbled as he walked over to the machine. "Sounds pretty fancy for a bunch of ruins." It at least let him know there was something there. "Who are you?"
The machine's green eyes faded in and out, resembling someone who blinked. "Milo." the machine's hands continued to work. As Raiden got closer he was able to see Milo was holding onto brightly colored gems. "Yes, it was a kingdom for machines, that decided to live under one ruler. They lived happily for a while, until their king died." Milo's round head moved, eyes staring at Raiden. "They had a new king, a prince waiting to be a king, but they lacked the knowledge to turn the prince into a king. A kingdom cannot exist without a ruler, it has crumbled and withered away. Now just another forgotten whisper."
"You make it sound like something that happened recently." the man was surprised to talk with a machine, they were usually docile or hostile, but it seemed they held a lot more intelligence than he thought if they were forming societies. "So then what exactly happened to this kingdom?"
"A machine and android came, they arrived to make something new." Milo ripped a piece of string from his cloak. "Something for everyone." Raiden looked over towards the door, wondering just what awaited him there. The giant castle loomed a bit farther away. "Only the android resides here now, a listless doll, often sitting upon a throne that rules over nothing."
An android and a machine? Could it be 2B? If it was, then Raiden was closer to finding her than he realized. "Is there a way to be 'invited' into this place?"
Milo stood up and waddled in front of Raiden, the machine took hold of Raiden's hand. A small bracelet made of gemstones laid on the man's wrist. "Find the entrance and you will be allowed in, a place for machines and androids to live freely and peacefully."
Raiden flipped to the side suddenly, a massive blade zipped along the ground. His eye caught Milo collapsed on the ground, a red spear embedded into it's round mechanical head, it's eye flickered for a few moments and completely stopped.
"So you're the one that has White upset." Raiden focused on the new presence, a tree branch cracked, a blur of crimson swirled on to the ground. A red cloak unraveled as the enemy began to stand at it's full height, taller than Raiden thought at first. Flowing white hair emerged from a white mask, attached to skin almost dark as night. "YoRHa unit H, target acquired."
"YoRHa-?" his blade blocked the red sword craving to carve him in half. Sparks ignited as the two swords groaned against each other. "Just who the hell are you?" Raiden rasped out, the trees shuffled, startled birds flew away from the shock wave that enveloped the forest from their clash. None of the androids he had fought had such an overwhelming presence. The ground began to crack underneath them as Raiden pushed back against his enemy. This android was different, Raiden knew what this feeling was.
This android was willing to kill him.
"I can see why you shocked her, you look just like him." the cyborg buckled under the pressure that the android continued to force onto him. "Were you one of the models that were lost?" H mused as his eyes bore into Raiden, shifting erratically, processing every piece of Raiden's form. The cyborg's sight almost seemed to glitch before returning to normal. "No, you don't have a black box, do you? The technology you were carved out of is old, very old. Even a simple hack is incompatible against you." H leaned forward. "Perhaps you are a prototype, before this war began? Were you there? When humans still walked this forsaken world?"
"Why are you after me!?" The cyborg ninja's knee snapped forward, the enemy android's jaw cracked back. Raiden's bicep expanded as he followed through with an uppercut that rattled H's head. He followed through with a stab that pierced the android.
"You aren't like other rogues. You know how to fight against androids." H's left hand clawed on to Raiden's forearm, the blade dug deeper. Raiden's face was snatched into a death grip, and he was raised higher. Face to face with the unsettling android. "Unfortunately for you, I also have some experience dealing with androids."
He was being hunted now, not knowing the reason. Even in this desolate place, in a war that was beyond his time, he was still dragged into conflict.
Raiden's eye shined crimson as his fist collided against H's temple. H slammed his head against Raiden's who took the full force of the attack. Raiden immediately returned the favor with a head butt of his own causing the adversaries to skid away from each other from the collision.
Raiden slowed his breath, he needed to get in contact with Wolf or A2, he had a feeling this android was the one that caused that chaos in the amusement park.
NO RESPONSE
"Don't bother trying to send outgoing communications. I've already made preparations against that." A red spear was in H's hand, pointed at Raiden. "You can struggle if you'd like." Raiden suddenly pulled his blade in front of him.
Fast!
That was all Raiden could think, barely being skewered by the red spear, that slid to the side thanks to his instincts. It didn't stop the momentum of H who crashed into the cyborg, blowing straight through the entrance of the castle. Splinters and metal followed Raiden's trajectory and slammed into the ground, the cobblestone being undone from the impact.
"Get up." Raiden saw H above him, spear ready to run him through. He dodged the stab, and returned with a counterattack. H's arm was severed from his body, Raiden rolled backwards and flipped to his feet, lightning crackled against his body. "Impressive, only a battle unit capable of a berserk mode would have dodged that." H seemed unconcerned over the severed limb. "Though you aren't in any pain, I wonder just what makes you tick, old android."
Raiden observed as the severed arm gained tendrils that swam towards H.
"Oh, ho..." H seemed amused at the red hot knives knives that cut the connection, before the arm could reattach. He exhaled as steam escaped his chest, the other knives fell from the android's body. "Now this is interesting, it seems you've fought something that could piece itself back together." H examined his arm pinned to the ground, multiple knives impaled it with a constant current of electricity. H chuckled in amusement as his spear materialized in his remaining hand. "Then I guess this is an even match now, wouldn't you agree?"
Raiden leaned to dodge the sudden spear toss, his footing slipped while the ground shattered underneath him. "A tree root?" his eye followed the large root to the tree behind H outside of the entrance. "Smart bastard."
H tackled Raiden through the castle corridor, only destruction left in their wake as they struggled against each other. Raiden didn't have enough of a chance to notice the countless machines that were caught in their crossfire. His arm hooked under H as he slammed his feet down onto the ground. The android and cyborg struggled to a sudden stop. Raiden's arm bulged, and lifted the android off of the ground.
"Get ready!" Raiden shouted and slammed H's head into the ground. The entire castle shook, as the ground gave away from the massive force. Raiden fell on his back as stone continued to fall to the depths of the castle. He picked himself up and listened. "A waterfall…?" Raiden confirmed, he seemed to have landed in a cavern under the castle.
A glint of red attacked him, aimed for his chest, which he hastily blocked with his arm. Yellow translucent fluid poured out of Raiden's bicep as the spear continued to dig.
"I was aiming for your core." H spoke as he looked down on Raiden. "It seems I'll just have to get rid of your other arm for you to go down."
Raiden clenched his teeth and his leg's spun, catching the android off guard. H saw Raiden raise his leg, sword hooked to the end of his heel as it slammed down. Like a specter H slipped away, his red clothing trailed towards the cavern entrance. "Trying to lob my head off are you?"
Raiden followed through the waterfall, and ran against the wall, sprinting towards H who was running back towards the castle.
"Watch your step."
Raiden's jaw clenched, a fist sent him flying upwards through the ceiling of the cavern, the rocky surface did little to slow his ascent. He slammed roughly against a wall, pages of tattered books scattered about. The cyborg grunted as he pulled himself out of the debris. He took notice of the multiple levels of the library and the various shadows being casted by the sun.
H hopped into view, jumping towards the second floor of the library. His spear scraped along the ground, eyes roaming for his missing foe.
"Did all of you fight to this extent back then? I've already learned much from battling you. More than I have in the past 7,745 years." H stepped over wood and books that littered the floor. "My designation is Hunter, the only one of my class. An absurd amount of resources were used to craft me, I'm not like the little androids out there fighting for humanity. I've been around for a very long time. I've fought against aliens and have faced destruction to the likes you have never seen." The android stopped under the sunlight that shined from a hole above him. "Everything hangs in a particular balance and my purpose is to keep things according to the plan."
Raiden crouched over a banister, his form dipped in shadow, his eye trailed H's form. Before H could take another step, Raiden dove like a bullet, his blade meeting the android's neck almost instantaneously.
"That was fun." H whispered as his body collapsed to the ground, unmoving.
Raiden's back met a bookcase as he struggled to keep standing. H's spear was embedded into his torso. "Damn it." The man couldn't believe the android was able to counter him even at the last second, he underestimated him. With a grunt the spear was removed, his body protesting against the action while his knees met the floor. He could hardly concentrate as warning continued to pop up upon his HUD, a constant beeping rang in his ears warning him of the damage he currently sustained.
He blinked, finding himself in a small courtyard, holding himself against a boulder.
"Could you stop making so much noise? You're scaring the fish."
Raiden slid his back down upon it, as he caught his breath and looked at the pond across from him. An android clothed in a simple white shirt and white slacks stared at him. A wooden fishing pole held lightly in her hand, looking unamused at Raiden.
A2 continued to feel the strain against her body, she decided to:
[ ] Use the distraction and escape, her last moments wouldn't be spent in battle.
[ ] Protect 2B and 9S and give them a chance to find out the truth themselves. [ ] Destroy the machine in front of her that lured so many other androids to their end.
[ ] Write-in
Raiden blearily stared at the android, before responding:
[ ] "Heh, looks like I found you, 2B."
[ ] He couldn't respond, his eye was already closing.
[ ] Write-in
So is A2 going to die regardless of the option? Because that's what it sounds like; even the 'run away' option still implies that these are her last moments whether she fights or not.
I guess if that's the case... how do we want A2 to go out? How do we want to define her in the end? Sacrificing 2B and 9S so she can spend her final moments peacefully, and maybe prolonging the inevitable (or possibly even managing to repair her later and preventing it altogether if we really dare to hope)? Protecting 2B and 9S in the hopes that they might learn the truth themselves and making them into her legacy? Or destroying the machine that is a clear and present danger so long as it continues to exists?
[X] Use the distraction and escape, her last moments wouldn't be spent in battle.
[X] "Heh, looks like I found you, 2B."
9S' uncovered eyes followed the red cloak that trailed behind his savior's form. Slung over the shoulder of the tall android that he didn't even know existed. "Who are you?" he questioned with his eyes shifted to his unresponsive partner laid upon his other shoulder. "Why did you save us?"
"YoRHa Unit H." the scanner model could feel the smirk that radiated from his savior. "Why did I save you? Curiosity and perhaps because I'm in a pleasant mood. Maybe because we fight for the same cause."
9S remembered struggling to survive the onslaught of android husks while 2B tried to take on their leader. A2 had left them to die, and 9S began to understand the Commander's words, why traitors needed to be put down. 9S and 2B were used as a distraction, for her to get away.
Traitors deserved to be wiped off the face of the earth.
Ever since 2B came back he was terrified of sharing the same fate. She had been replaced, and it still haunted him. There were gaps in her memories, ones even before the incident in the desert. Yet, she wasn't as cold as she once was.
9S believed that she was actually enjoying being his partner and it only made him happier, which made the guilt stronger. That guilt lead into anger, anger he had no where to place. They had their mission, their purpose, they were going to bring mankind back to the surface eventually...
"I'll kill her..." he muttered as his fist wound into itself.
"Oh?" Unit H stopped in his stride. "Just who exactly do you wish to destroy?"
"I want to destroy A2, that traitor left us to die!" he couldn't hold back the rage in his voice. "Why would anyone betray us? She's no better than the machines! She's evil!"
2B had lost memories because of him, she had lost herself. She knew who he was, certain missions they'd gone on, but there was so much left blank.
Was this what 2B felt when he lost his memories?
9S was placed onto his feet and he examined the android that had saved him. H's eyes bore into him, moving faster and faster. Then his eyes stopped straight onto the scanner model.
"Do you wish to be stronger? To make more of a difference in this war we have continued to fight?"
Of course he did, he couldn't protect 2B. He couldn't protect himself. "I need more power, I'm too weak." He was useless.
9S was startled at the booming laugh, H began to walk, no longer needing to carry 9S upon his back. "Then come along little hero. I'll grant you your wish."
9S shot one more look back at the ruined amusement park and turned away without looking back.
-
"Heh, I've been looking for you 2B."
"Why?" she questioned, an irritated scowl tore across her face. There wasn't any reason for him to be here in the first place, let alone to be searching for her. She wanted to be left alone.
"Because 9S asked me to."
Of course he had, 9S would always worry, he would always care in some capacity. "You don't owe him anything."
Raiden paid little mind to her claim, his bicep began to repair itself as his yellow blood continued to drip onto the ground. "I know what it's like to live with regret."
She tightened her hold onto the fishing rod. She refused to look him in the eye. "I'm not the one he wants, not anymore."
There were a few moments of silence shared between them.
"What are you doing 2B? Why are you in this castle? There's nothing here, you have a friend waiting for you out there."
"What would you know!?" the android couldn't stop herself from screaming at him. It hurt, too much, she was trying to bury it all away and he only dug up the wound. "I don't have anything anymore! I've lost everything that I am. My purpose, my identity, they're no longer mine! You have no idea what it's like to have everything stripped away from you!"
The fishing line on the rod snapped, the pond gently waddled but returned to stillness.
"I questioned every day since my creation. 'Is this the right thing?' 'It will work out in the end.' 'I just have to hold out a little longer.' 'Mankind will finally come back and forgive me.' I've killed more of my kind than I wish to remember. My partner has been among those too many times. No matter how hard I try I can't escape this feeling." She gripped the chest of her white shirt, her hand shaking. "I can't escape what I am, what I've done. I continued without an end in sight. That's all I wanted, the end of this nightmare."
Raiden sighed, it wasn't too late for her to fix herself, to avoid that point of no return that he had long since past. He realized it now that these androids were cursed with the same thing that plagued humans.
"Don't ignore it, by the time you realize it'll be too late. You have a chance to make things right for yourself."
Raiden struggled to find the words to ease her pain, he wasn't Snake, he wasn't good with his words. These androids were cursed with the burden of humanity. To love, to hate, to laugh, to cry. Yet they had no one to teach them this, they had no way to understand what this was. They were left with these burdens and responsibilities they weren't ready for, that they never asked for.
It would destroy them if left unchecked.
Ever since he woke, he hadn't seen the presence of a human being. It was just androids and machines, fighting this war that had nothing to do with him. Even now mankind's cruel finger continued to torment these beings. They probably didn't fully understand, Androids were the children of humanity in a sense. They were even more clueless than their creators and it only tugged on his weary soul. They were told to fight and so they desperately fought, just as a child soldier would.
The android didn't know why she could comprehend the sorrow radiating from him. His eye spoke more than the words he conversed.
"It's too late, Raiden..." She whispered softly, her fingers began to fix the line of the fishing rod. "I don't have anything left, I don't have anything left to give. My only end in sight is the destruction of humanity."
Raiden couldn't admonish her, he couldn't tell her she was wrong, he couldn't tell her that everything would be alright in the end. He didn't have the right, he wasn't a shining beacon that could fix everything. The cyborg couldn't save anyone, he couldn't even save himself. He was no hero, just a monster wishing he was.
The only thing he was good for was fighting.
All he could do was watch the world turn, that was the feeling he understood from 2B. Everything continued even when you wanted it to stop with all your might. It continued even as you pleaded for it to stop, for it to listen.
Raiden was a monster in the presence of the form before someone became a monster. The fear, guilt, regret, loathing, the evil that continued to swallow you into it's depths. It had eaten away at him his entire life, he couldn't escape it, but she still had a chance.
Raiden didn't even remember how old he was.
"You'll regret crawling into that darkness 2B."
The sound of boots hitting cobblestone interrupted their conversation.
"How interesting, just what do you know about that darkness?" Raiden jumped to his feet, hand already on his sword. YoRHa unit H stood at the entrance of the courtyard, headless-No that wasn't right. Raiden examined his enemy's hand that clasped onto long white hair. H looked pleased. "Did you really think that was enough to stop me?"
Raiden clenched his teeth and drew his sword. "You're a tough bastard to kill."
"I could say the same for you, old one." He raised his head to his neck and twisted it back onto himself. "I've never had so much pleasure fighting." 2B tensed, H's attention impaled towards her. "Oh? What's this? Another 2B model, how interesting." his laughter grated on her, like she was missing some kind of inside joke. "Now this is quite amusing. He is sure to lose his mind."
"Just what the hell do you want? If I have to cut you down again I will." His blade flickered with electricity as his eye shined an eerie crimson. "Don't test me."
"I don't doubt it but..." The unsettling android raised his hands in exasperation, smile still adorned on his face. "I can't have the same exact model running around now can I? Especially when she isn't fulfilling her duty. Traitors aren't tolerated, and she is no exception."
2B's swords flashed into existence behind her as she stepped forward. "I won't go down without a fight."
"I don't doubt that, Executioner models were made with the intent of finishing their enemies no matter what weren't they?"
2B froze in place. "How do you know about that!?" she demanded.
"There are many things I know." H's eyes moved sporadically and stopped. "I'll let you live for now as a favor to him." H pointed at the cyborg. "I had fun, but make no mistake. Traitors will be dealt with one way or another." His cloak twirled around him, compressing his form further and further into itself. His eyes still set on the android. "You're going to wish your existence ended by my merciful hand." H faded away with the sound of a zipper.
The cyborg's eye returned to the female android. She appeared absolutely terrified beyond belief. "So they know I'm here now. It's only a matter of time before I have to fight, to just wait here and destroy any of them that step foot in this castle."
Raiden sheathed his sword and contemplated his options.

"Unit A2 it is imperative to repair energy regulator-"
The stupid pod wouldn't shut up.
"-You are currently running on 2% of your optimal energy-"
Didn't this thing get it already? It was over for her.
The grass bowed under her heel as she made her way towards the large bridge that separated the rest of the area from the giant abandoned mall.

"A2, I was unable to determine your location. There was a ruined theater filled with destroyed androids." Bladewolf popped up on the holographic screen that Pod 573 displayed.
She didn't have the energy to lift her head. Yet, she still had one question she wanted answers to.
"What are you? You and Raiden?"
The static was getting worse, yet she was able to tune it out, her focus on the sound of the birds. There were many times where she would sit and listen to them, they were usually the most peaceful moments she held.
"Raiden and I have existed long before any of this occurred, this war androids and the machines fight."
The Attack Unit chuckled a little. "That can't be possible, the earth, androids, machines, they've been fighting longer than even I know."
"If my calculations are correct, the current year is 11,945. It has been over 9,902 years since Raiden was put to sleep. I awoke in 2049, nine years after."
A2 couldn't make sense of it. "That's impossible." she protested weakly. If that was true then both of them- "That means you two were around when humans were still on the earth! Why aren't you doing anything!?"
"I do not understand your question."
How could he not? He had the experience of living with humans, something every one of them desperately wished they could experience.
"Both of you are old, you have knowledge that was probably lost to YoRHa and the council of humanity! Why haven't you gotten in touch with them? Your knowledge could help turn this around. Idly standing by as everything went to shit! What's wrong with you!?"
A2 lifted her hand to her cheek, liquid dripping from her eyes. Why the hell did her creators build a stupid function like this? What was the point?
Bladewolf answered her. "I am not invincible. As I waited for Raiden I fought against the alien invaders, I fought against the uprising of androids. I did what I believed Raiden would do. The last time I allowed myself to fight for your kind I was betrayed by two red haired androids. In the end my efforts were meaningless and I do not hold the same sentiments androids do."
Then what was he? A2 knew he wasn't an android, yet he wasn't a machine either. Bladewolf was something stuck in between.
"There has only been one being that has never tried to control me. It's my duty to watch over him until the end. That is the directive I have given myself, the one I chose to follow."
"You mean Raiden, don't you?" Her mind was sated, they hadn't led her into a trap. She wasn't set up, it was just another cruel joke of the world. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The windy breeze only made the silence heavier. Although Bladewolf wasn't antagonistic, he wasn't exactly friendly with her. She understood herself, being lied to, betrayed, it wasn't an easy thing to forgive. She was still learning if it could ever be forgiven, what YoRHa did.
She was tired of being angry, of being miserable. She wouldn't allow that anger to consume her now, not anymore. To hold onto it when she just wanted peace in these fleeting moments.
Another tap, another step of her heels onto the bridge. It groaned with her weight, but made no further protest.
"Raiden is unstable. I waited over 9,000 years for him to come back. When he awoke he nearly lost his already fractured mind. Sorrow for the family he could not save years before a deadly disease threatened the earth. It ate away at him and he could only blame himself. Grief for the girl, the last thing he had left to protect, who sealed him away as she was gunned down."
"You're saying humans killed each other?"
"Even as their numbers dwindled, as a threat was there to end their lives. Humanity is not as kind as you would like to believe."
"Why are you telling me this?" Bladewolf knew nothing of her and her past.
"So you can understand why he agreed to look for an android he had no relation to. To understand that he will blame himself for what happened to you."
The attack unit scoffed as she held on to a section of the rope that held the bridge. "So, someone's going to miss me, huh?" It sounded stupid to her, they weren't friends. A2 could only wonder, maybe they would have been.
It felt nice to know someone could grieve for you even if they were just a stranger.
She didn't want to be angry anymore, not halfway across the bridge or even when she reached the end. A2 wanted to look up into the sky and see it for what it was.
Someone would remember her.
"How was he able to function after so long?" A2 could only think that Raiden lived with humans, she could understand the sentiment. It was painful enough as it was longing for humans to return, but to have them ripped from your grasp. The android wouldn't know how to handle that.
"I do not know. I have never fully understood the illogical ways of humans."
A2 stopped cold as her grip on the rope tightened. The static around her sight grew heavier. "What did you just say?"
Bladewolf easily ignored her question. "You were assisting Raiden, Pod 573 briefed me of your predicament. I apologize that we put you into this situation."
He was sorry? A2 fell to her knees, her optics losing color. "It's a little too late for regrets now." She unknowingly smiled as she struggled to stand again. It wasn't for long, not nearly long enough for her to feel a deep connection. "For what it's worth, it was nice talking with you both." They weren't friends, but it was better than being enemies. "See you, Wolf."
A2 cut the connection as she continued to the end of the bridge.
"Hey Tin Can, how much time do I have left?" A2 couldn't read her HUD, everything was muffled. She knew she had finally made it to the end of the bridge.
Her weapons fell to the ground.
"Minimal, 1%. Twenty minutes"
She sighed in relief as she stumbled to the side of the bridge, falling near a patch of white flowers at the edge of the cliff. She would wait and watch the clouds, even with the unanswered questions she couldn't find it in herself to be angry.
At the very least she finally met a human.
Her tears continued to fall, she had so many questions for him. But the only thing she wanted him to answer was: "Did I do the right thing?" she whispered as the wind flew by her.
And so A2 continued to watch the clouds, waiting for the end.
"You look so much like her and yet you've found the beauty in the polar opposite." The crunch of boots trailed her attention, they were black. "You found it haven't you?" His voice questioned, even as she couldn't place the face. "You've found out how to forgive."
"I just don't want to fight anymore."
He chuckled lightly, amused but not condescending. A black glove brushed the hair away from her failing vision. "If you don't, who will? Who will protect humanity and your fellow androids from the destruction that's coming?"
The sun was blocked from her eyes.
"What are you talking about?"
"I will respect your wishes if you don't want to fight anymore. You will pass on with the relief you hold, I will build a grave for you here." She felt his arm under her back, her head fell to his chest, she couldn't move anymore. "But if you wish to continue fighting, I'm afraid it won't be pleasant. You might lose everything that you are."
"Who the hell are you?"
"There's a more important question you must consider." his glasses shined with the sunlight and with a smirk he asked:
"Do you wish to continue fighting, little android?"

What did Raiden decide to do?
[ ] Convince 2B to reconsider
[ ] Take 2B with him, find Bladewolf and A2
[ ] Stay in the castle and let his body recover
[ ] Write-in
I'm going to go over the decisions and what they meant for the quest from the last update A2's choices
Bladewolf would have found his way to the opera theater after visiting a village of machines. A2 would have saved her fellow androids and her control would have been passed over to 9S, she would hand off her memories and entrust them to him. He begins to search for the truth she spoke about and to learn about Raiden's origins. The Opera singing machine Simone would have repaired A2's body and taken it over.
This is the option that would have had A2 wiped out completely, 2B and 9S caught in the crossfire as she destroyed everything. At the last moment Simone would have attempted to hack into A2. This would have created a new virus that would begin to slowly infect everything, causing androids to feel the need to stop existing.
Raiden's choice
This would have caused Raiden to fall unconscious and waking up in Adam's copied city. Raiden would learn the truth about the machines and androids.
Trying to find the others at the moment will likely only delay the fight without letting Raiden heal before the inevitable fight, so he should repair himself and prepare for it vs banking on the chances that he just might find Bladewolf before YorHa finds him. Besides, this way he can still talk to Original-2B until the YorHa forces arrive.
