That is a worthy goal for all good Christians
I think something is missing after "Christians".

[X]The Cannons: There were only ten cannons here, and that would have to do, seeing as the walls will be out of range, and you will be forced to target infantry formations (Your engineering skills and your ability to do math will make you well suited. You will be in danger.)

Hellsing Abridged reference aside, we could probably come up with a good firing solution for the cannons, like an oblique angle shot to hit multiple formations, or a devastating volley to break up a section of the line that our troops can exploit. Improvised canister shot is a thing, you can pack rocks and scrap metal into a cannon with a bit of wood acting as a sabot to turn a cannon into a giant shotgun.

[X]The Vanguard: Those idiots do not know how to shoot, and you do, so you damn well will join them and smash their attack (The Most dangerous option, but one where you will be able to affect the battle the most with your marksmanship, and your ability to repair any gun with limited tools)

Let's go Vauban. Though I must say I like the Vanguard option also

only the stupid or very very brave/needy join the van on their own.

uhm personally i do not think we should be on the field at all. but too keep with the quest. lending a hand with the cannons does sound a bit more IC and up our alley.
also as good a shot as we are, i really do not like the idea of having a 7 year old boy in the front line.

Well it's not unrealistic for the time period.

Chapter 7.2: The Battle of Rome (Battle)
Chapter 7.2: The Battle of Rome (Battle)
In Which Our Hero discovers the Joy, and Terror, of war, and Artillery

Mario was the man who was in charge of the cannon, a member of the order of solutions who had some experience with cannon. He was also, quite obviously, not a very smart man. "No I want to angle them so that the cannonballs will fly over our lines, and we do not have an incident where our men can get killed!" You shouted.

Every moment you talked was something that could have been used to sight in the guns more, and get more men killed than would become.

"And I know how to kill me, we want to disorient those bastards when they are fighting!" Mario proclaimed. "Do not tell me how to wage war boy, you know nothing of it!"

You frowned. "And how you aim it is precisely why no one trusts the Cannonier. Aim higher, and you will hit the enemy farther away, without the unnessiecery risk of killing our own men! So either does that you fool-" You drew your pistol. "Or I will shoot you and do it myself!"

Your proclamation and your gusto, and the threat were enough to make the man, Mario, pause as his men looked like they were about to shoot you themselves and say it was the enemy if you were understanding of the mercenary thinking.

Instead, Mario nodded. "Alright, lads! Follow the little shits order, angle the cannons higher, and prepare to fire at the Boys angles!"

You had done the math. Twice. The average cannonball would sail and gain even more force falling down at an angle, and there was a very large possibility that the balls would crater. You had heard that the ball could even cause the gunpowder in certain conditions to explode. You know they were lying, but the possibility of shattering the barrels

And the city's defenders would have gunpowder near their walls.

"Wait until Severin gives the order." Mario said as he and his men finished adjusting the angles of the cannons.

Severin, riding on his horse, before dismounting in the vanguard, disappearing into the thicket of men and rifles.

But then he fired a single shot in the air, the smoke impossible to miss.

That made Mario smile. "FIRE!"

The Twenty Cannons unleashed hell, their roars made you cover your ears, and your heart jumped in your chest, your entire body tried to escape the skin to escape.

But even as you saw the balls sail into the air. And a moment later, all twenty balls hit a group of enemies. Men were sent flying, some were torn apart and you saw one vaporized as a ball collapsed on him, and his body turned from meat and bone, into jelly and paste.

You felt bile rise from your throat and then you unleashed it onto the ground, as the men at the cannons, those that were not reloading their cannons, laughed.

"Got to be his first fucking battle." Mario joked to his men, as he walked over to you, hitting your back. "There there, let it all out."

You finished throwing up, as you took several steady, shallow breaths. "They… they."

"Aye, they were boy," Mario replied. "Look at them, they are reforming up and preparing to retreat back to the city. Severin won't let them."

Severin's Battle Plan Success: 91+115+81=287 vs 83

And then, the Cavalry came from the Flank, having forded the River Tiber to block the bridges into the city, and force the forces currently on the field to make a difficult decision. Charge and try to break out, leaving their flanks exposed to Severin's advance, or try to fight both ways, against mounted cavalry.

Severin had planned that the walls would focus fire on the cavalry, so as to keep his infantry safe from the possible fire of the wall artillery pieces. Meaning that the artillery crews, if they were not under the command of Borgia himself, may have conflicting orders on who to fight, and who to fire at, the mounted cavalry, or the charging infantry.

And since the infantry were still in range of your Cannon, you knew they would be killed.

And you fired the cannons again, this time, to take advantage of the confusion. Within five minutes, there were over 200 cannon shots fired, and all the ammunition was used for the artillery.

Mario had not expected you to use so much in such a short period of time, in fact, he had his men fetch water to cool the guns, to stop them from melting.

And men died.

And they collapsed, with only a few men standing as the men dropped their weapons and fled, either into the city to avoid the great infantry charge into them.

Borgia must have realized that the battle would be lost if he did not try to rally his men, or get into the city and command what was left of his army inside the city walls.

But Severin did not give him a chance, as you saw the man fall down from his horse, a bullet hitting his head as Severin's line fired. He had died before he hit the ground, as his head smashed into a few pieces as his head hit a rock.

And so ended the battle of Rome.

And so ended the reign of the King of Rome, Cesere Borgia.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Battle was over a few hours later, as the men of the Order of Solutions did some minor and, in the grand scheme of things, harmless looting, in some houses outside the churches.

And the Pope was freed by his guards.

The Battle of Rome was over.
