Quest to Become a Hero

The Traits Born of Heroic Legacies
[X] Traits

It seems like an obvious choice to you honestly, your mind not seeming to register the strangeness of having to choose just one category or until after you focus on the Traits category. As the tab expands you seem to realize that you could only choose one this visit and if you end up not wanting to obtain any of the options then the trip to this unique dreamscape might as well be wasted for what little you will have earned aside from pain. Ignorant, or simply unconcerned with your thoughts the multicolored flame surges before spitting forth more light that turns the screen before you into chaos for a moment until it finally reshapes itself into a list of choices.

Basic Heroic Legacy Traits
[] Sturdy Physique [2] - You come to possess a body that is much more resilient than your original form allowing you to withstand roughly twice as much damage before your body gives out resulting in death.
[] Quick to Act [1] - You are fast to respond in dangerous situations, where others are still confused about changing events you have already begun to move in response to them.
[] Awakened Heroic Spirit's Vessel [5] - You find yourself able to change the power the Heroic Spirit grants into a more suitable form for use in the real world. You can use it to withstand blows that would slay others, empower strikes to lay low enemies far beyond your reach, and more. Yet to do so burns the very power meant to help you grow stronger, turning long term gains to short term ones.
[] Lucky I [6] - You are blessed with good luck and it tends to favor you above others to some extent.
[] Swift Growth I [10] - With enough power the Heroic Spirit can even help you grow, increasing the rate at which you earn experience by twenty-five percent permanently.

Profession Heroic Legacy Traits
[] A Sage's Eyes [15] - You are capable of reading things tens of times faster than the average person and your mind perfectly retains the information read after just a single reading.
[] Wise Words [5] - When you speak on subjects you know and within your realm of knowledge on them you are incomparably convincing for your words carry a sense to them unlike any others. Wisdom is the tool of the long lived and successful after all.

Recorded Traits
[] Aspire to Sagehood [4] - You've come to find yourself a seeker of all forms of knowledge and find it easy to learn those skills a scholar finds most useful. Perhaps with enough work you may achieve acknowledgement as a Sage, a master of countless fields of knowledge. Increased skill gains for scholar related skills.
[] Connection with Beyond [3] - You find yourself strangely connected to whatever realm belongs to those Gods, Deities, and Greater Beings. You are more likely to detect traces of the Divine or Transcendent.

Which traits do you purchase?

Or...

[] Refuse to buy any of them.

Titles:

They Who Seek the Crown (Level One, 10/25) - A title earned by gaining the blessing of the God of War in a chance encounter with his will. It is a boon granted to those who seek to become like Lords, towering above the world with every action and word capable of bringing great waves of change. Currently it is weak and only grants you the power of Domination, but if you grow stronger and perform in a way that meshes with this Boon then perhaps its strength can grow.
Heroes can be Thieves Right? - In the name of Heroism you stole classified information from the Church of War without being caught. Now no innocent souls shall be ended with this dangerous knife, but ... yours might be if you mess up? Slightly increased chance of learning stealth and thievery related skills until discovered, lost if the Sealed Scroll is destroyed.

Ethical Scholar - A scholar's duty is that of facts, numbers, honesty, and boundaries. You have a devotion to the work of the written word that few would follow in the face of potential benefits. You seek simply to perform your work to the best of your ability and stand within the morals of your scholar code, even find yourself compelled to do so. Established personal Scholarly Code, sticking to it makes your work easier and better while going against it more difficult and with worse results.
  • Scholar Code I - No work is better than hasty work. {Provides +2 to scholarly rolls when followed, take -2 to scholarly rolls when ignored.}
  • Scholar Code II - Provide the facts to those that hire you, nothing more and nothing less. {Provides 2 bonus experience when followed, lose 2 experience when ignored.}

An Injured Adventurer and a Scholar's Weak Stomach
[X] Refuse to buy any of them.

It takes a considerable amount of effort to resist just obtaining any of these traits right now, but in the end your will overcomes your greed. You reluctantly express your intentions and in answer the multicolored flame stills for a moment before the brightly colored panel before you explodes into dots of light that hurriedly dart back into the heart of that ever-burning fire. Shortly after you find yourself once more drfting away, oddly enough it is the feeling of going to sleep that envelops you before everything disappears.

---

When you truly wake from your sleep you find it is well into morning, even nearing noon, but that's acceptable. After all one of the perks of working as an Adventurer is that you make your own schedule as you see fit, an extremely satisfying thought compared to the rigorous structure of the School which left you little room for anything other than study and sleep. Clambering out of bed you hurriedly get your possessions in order before heading downstairs to claim that meal you paid for, a plate of bacon and eggs alongside a loaf of bread with a mug of watered down ale to the side making for a wonderful start to the day. Once you've finished downing it all you head outside and start to stroll towards the Guild. By the time you arrive a group dressed in full sets of plate is hurrying to enter with a teammate gathered between them, a sight that seems odd right until you see the gaping hole in the center of their stomach and the odd angle one of their elbows is bent at.

You freeze in place, a desire to vomit welling up as nausea hits you.

'I... I know this is a dangerous job, but in the name of the Gods I did not really expect that. Shit, School didn't prepare me to see people missing chunks of their fucking torso.'

Your train of thought is cut short as you rush over to an alley and expel the contents of your stomach onto the ground. It doesn't take long for it to turn to dry heaving and by the time the fit passes you find yourself leaning against the corner of the Guild, countless a passerby casting you sympathetic and worried looks that you are far too tired to pay attention to right now. When you finally catch your breath and somewhat recover from the episode you start to ponder on just how dangerous this line of work can be, it's not really something fitting for a scholar with no real ability to protect himself. You shake your head and try to shove the fear to the back of your mind, just have to focus on your plan for the day, no room for any stray thoughts. Focus.

What do you do?
[] Go check the Quest Board for work.
- [] Write-in - For if you want to pick up one of the previously listed Quests and ignore new ones for now.
[] Go purchase some stuff from the Guild Store
[] Head to the Library and throw yourself into studying.
- [] Write-in for what kind of books you're looking for.
[] Write-in for other actions.

Hidden Features? and a Successful Experiment
[X] Head to the Library and throw yourself into studying.
- [X] Find a Botany book, specifically one with an entry on Golden Leaf. Copy the Golden Leaf info (or just the info on harvesting it properly if the whole thing's too long) on spare parchment, then test Dominate Writing on the copy.
[X] Talk to the creepy receptionist about trainers.

A few deep breaths later you harden your determination before pushing yourself up from the ground again and head into the Guild. Numerous adventurers mill about, several collecting tasks from the board, and a few even turning in request forms or receiving their rewards. You take a moment to hunt down a specific receptionist, the somewhat creepy lady easily recognizable given your repeated interactions and the strangeness you had noticed through them. A short line has formed in front of her and you quickly find your way to the end of it, taking a moment to observe the lobby as you wait looking for any sign of the group from earlier. By the time you've confirmed that none of them are in the lobby and that there aren't any signs you can find of them it is already your turn at the counter, the woman's increasingly familiar voice drawing your attention.

"Hello again Mr. Stitch, as far as the Guild records show you don't have a request running and I don't see any form on you, so how can I help you today?"

You raise an eyebrow at the question, more at the astuteness and diligence that she apparently puts into her work than the question itself, before clearing your throat to respond.

"Umm, I was wondering if the Guild or you would know about anyone willing to provide training in weapon usage and things like that?"

Her eyes seem to sparkle at your question and her hand is placed in front of you as she asks for your Guild Card. You hand it over as she begins to speak,

"Excellent question, we do in fact have several trainers and teachers available which vary based on your Guild Rank alongside the exact content they can teach you. It's not information readily provided, because the Guild functions on a simple principle that you have stuck to quite well - Those who question and seek answers will be rewarded. I have added forty Guild Points to your account and you now have access to additional sections of the Guild Store which include training course purchases, if you wish to check them out then head over there.

Now, unless there is anything else I do have more adventurers to manage."

You take back your Guild Card and nod to her before turning to head into the Library with an idea in mind for an experiment. Immediately upon entering the entry section of the library you track down a book on Botany (titled 'A Simple Guide to Reglar's Plants') before bringing it over to the nearest table and retrieving a blank sheet of paper as well as your writing tools. A quick search finds the section of the book you're looking for, a page of information about the general uses of Golden Leaf as well as the correct harvesting method to follow. Taking up your pen you begin to copy it's contents down.

---

Golden Leaf. A small three to eight leafed plant with green leaves and a faint golden color adorning the edges of them. It's stalk is greenish brown with golden veins and the entire plant grows to roughly two feet high in most cases of maturation. Grows on the outskirts Relgar's forests, primarily in woodland clearings. Commonly used in the creation of low-end healing poultices and potions. Infrequently used to create antidotes, to fend off specific strains of infection...

In order for one to properly harvest Golden Leaf a few items are required: One's hands, wooden storage box, some water, and something small yet sharp.

First one should use a trowel or dagger to dig up the dirt in a ring around the plant itself no less than three inches away from the plant itself. Doing so makes retrieving the plant easier as the roots are densely packed and grow vertically primarily rather than branching out. Once that is done the digger should slowly use their hands to free the Golden Leaf as well as the clod of dirt it's growing in before using their hands to clear the dirt away. Finally, after the majority is cleared off water should then be used to clean the remainder before placing the harvested plant into the prepared wooden storage box. With that the task is complete and the gathered herb will retain it's effects for up to three days without further work.

---

Fingers tap the table as you work your slightly cramped hand, fitting so much text onto the relatively small piece of parchment was difficult but not impossible considering your past experiences. A moment is spent staring at the newly written page containing every bit of information the book contained on Golden Leaf, but you can't drag this out any longer since who knows when someone might come in thus ruining your chance to try this.

Instinct. You can only describe the process of using Dominate Writing as pure instinct, perhaps it was burned into your mind at the same time the power came into existence or maybe it was always there waiting to be awakened? Forcing such philosophical thoughts away, the words on the page before you tear themselves free of the page as dim golden light starts to radiate from them. Mild pain hits you as the words pour into the location on your forehead where that burning sensation had occurred during your blessing, and with it comes a flood of knowledge that seems more expansive than that written on the page. By the time it's over you understand that a simple thought will bring forth all the basic information written on the page while the act of harvesting is almost ingrained in your muscle memory at this point though only for a day. Of that much you are certain.

However, before you can really enjoy the sensation a vaguely recognizable voice echoes in the room with no noticeable source.

"Copying the books in this section is permissible, your use of those copies is entirely up to you as well, but be warned. Use that power on one of the books kept here and you will be immediately expelled from the Guild."

Your eyes open wide in shock as you look around for someone to address yet find no one. Well... that's not great, but whoever it is does not seem surprised at your power. They didn't sound like they cared enough about it to do anything other than give you that warning either.

Earned 8 Experience for discovering a hidden feature of the Guild and conversation in the thread.
Sub-ability Dominate Writing gained 2 Experience.

[X] Go purchase some stuff from the Guild Store

After putting your power to the test and discovering it's effect you decide it's best to go gather the items you need to harvest herbs. Casting a final glance around the library, you turn and leave before finding your way to the Guild Store. Behind the bare counter is the same dwarf as before, but now that strange gold coin is standing perfectly still on it's edge. He waves his hand towards you, his eyes never leaving the coin, as he says -

"Take out your Card and open the store, you will find a new category added. Good job kid."

You shrug your shoulders and do as he said, the same window appearing but in a much larger form.

It takes a while to decide between simply learning survival skills, or picking up a potential lifesaving poultice, but in the end you decide the classes are a more cost effective method for the time being. A few taps later and you can here the dwarf grunts as he grudgingly pulls a few items from under the counter, placing them on top and calling to you,

"Gonna need to see your Card. Have to add the courses you bought onto it."

You nod before closing the distance, handing over the Card, and start moving the items into your pack. First up is the case of vials, each about big enough for a mouthful or two of liquids, which is nothing much though it'll have to do for the time being. Second, and final, is a wooden box that's longer than your forearm and about two palms wide which is a fair deal larger than you expected honestly. On top of the box a handful of symbols are carved and arranged in a square.

Once you're done putting it all away you look up to find the dwarf holding your Card out to you, his sight however is focused on the coin laying heads up on the counter. A smile appears on his face as he looks up to you,

"Here's your card, and I believe you have something to ask me? After all today is a good day for money."

You glance at the dwarf and then down to the coin several times as you put away the Card before coughing.

"Yeah, I would like to know if you have any shops you'd recommend that sell items not found in the store."

In answer he holds out his hand, "20 Coppers."

You grunt and grudgingly pay the man causing his smile to grow wider.

"Good choice Kid, name's Gunnerson. Godric Gunnerson. Now, for your question there are several stores I would recommend that should fill every category you'd need.

For any of your weaponry and armor needs I highly recommend Gunnerson's Smithy which can be found on the main road of Trade Street, run by my brother and sister as well as handling some of my occasional wares. It is not really self advertising since every Dwarf who leaves the Mountainhomes are masters of their craft, we're required to pass a test given by Elders from our Craftsmen Guilds before we can set foot outside of Dwarven Lands after all. Goods there will be much more costly, especially if you want to request your own custom orders.

Next up would be the Berry Brush General Store, contains most ever common good you wouldn't find here for sale. Quite the wonderful old woman runs it and is more than willing to help you hunt down more obscure items if you need it. The store's inventory is taken from a variety of sources though, so you won't find the quality there nearly as consistent as the goods the Guild sells.

Finally, when it comes to alchemy goods I am quite certain that your go-to store should be Gerald's Apothecary. As a man he's utterly insane, but his work is impeccable especially for a human. You will find all sorts of weird items at his shop, and a number of the usual poultices as well as potions. Their actual effect... well it'll vary from time to time, but nothing so severe that it'll be useless. Assuming you don't buy his experimental items.

Thanks for the coin, kid. Good luck with your endeavors!"

With those final words he picks up the golden coin and starts flipping the coin between his fingers. You thank him then leave to go grab the harvesting quest from the board before lining up behind the others in line, your request being added to your Card shortly after by the usual, strange receptionist.

What do you do now?

[] Go to the woods and harvest some Gold Leaf!
[] Go visit one of the stores that Gunnerson recommended.

An Encounter on the Road
[X] Go to the woods and harvest some Gold Leaf!

You decide to ignore going to a store for the time being due to your lacking time, the boon granted from your writing will wear off by the end of the day after all and thus the more time you get to harvest the more your returns. With that in mind you head out of town on the main road, heading north with excitement filling you at the thought of the adventure ahead. It might be a bit childish to call it an adventure, but truthfully you have never left Relgar since birth so even this short journey is a new world to you.

Of course it doesn't take long for the world to proves it's danger, as you stroll along the road towards your destination you suddenly hear something tearing through the grass to your left. Turning to look finds a Vicious Rabbit baring it's teeth at you as the fluff-ball launches itself towards your head. You throw yourself back, narrowly avoiding the pain of having your face chewed off, and roll across the ground for a moment before you can manage to push yourself upright again. Doing so allows you to see the little creature just now recovering, your hand moves to grab your dagger from it's sheath as your brain tries to think about how to act.

How do you combat the vicious rabbit?
[] Charge it with your dagger and don't let up, hack it until it's dead!
[] Immediately enact the most tried, tested, and proven tactic of human history.... RUUUUUUUNNNN!!!!
[] Use Dominate on the little monstrosity.
[] Write-in.

Your First Minion and Harvesting
[X] Use Dominate on the little monstrosity.
-[X] Afterwards use your axe to make a wooden cudgel in case more Rabbits show up, to follow the Beginner's Guide advice on not ruining the pelt.

An idea comes to mind as you face off with the killer bunny, it's blood red eyes turning to glare at you as you focus on the original power of your boon. Your brow seems to burn as you draw upon the gifted strength, an incomparable feeling taking over as you become certain of a single thing. This creature will serve you whether it is wishes to, or not.

Dim golden light radiates from you for a brief moment before a golden crown encased in a book materializes and then charges at the unsuspecting animal, screeches of pain coming from it shortly after impact as it collapses to the ground and begins to shake. Time seems to slow as you feel a connection being forged to the little beast, the fur at the top it's hair beginning to burn as a symbol takes shape upon it until a crude crown is carved upon it. Everything seems to come to a finish the moment the crown take's shape, a clear mental bridge forming between you and the Vicious Rabbit as you come to understand it at a level that far surpasses what you understand of yourself.

Just a thought is enough to make this new minion throw itself to it's death... It's a strange, disconcerting feeling to hold this degree of control over another being's life, but you're pretty sure you could get used to this. A smile spreads on your face as you order your follower to keep up and set out to take care of your work. Along the way you find a sizable branch and use your axe to trim it into a simplistic club in case you run into more of the little furball's brethren, better to salvage what valuables you can considering your current wealth.

By the time the sun is not far from setting you've managed to harvest nine Golden Leaf plants. Four of them are rather poorly harvested, but you do manage to gather two of them in absolutely perfect condition with some help from your new servant, apparently the creature is rather useful for finding and digging up herbs even hunting down three of the plants you ended up harvesting. However, just as you're beginning to think about heading back you stumble across a clearing with an animal's corpse lying in it.

A Forest Bears mostly intact remains are at the heart of the clearing, it's body covered in bite and claw wounds that you're fairly sure is a clear sign of Green-pelt Wolves though why they'd leave a source of food intact and out in the open is a bit strange. Perhaps you should take this chance to get a few items to sell when you go back?

Gained 2 Experience for the Domination Ability
Gained 2 Experience for Title: They Who Seek the Crown
Obtained a Minion, Level 1 Vicious Rabbit

What do you do?

[] Go forward and cut anything that might be worth some money off the Forest Bear.
[] Leave, this is a bit too strange. Might as well take what you have back to town.
[] Leave, but continue harvesting more Golden leaf. You'll be in the outskirts of the forest at night, but it will be worth more.

A Pet License?
[X] Leave, this is a bit too strange. Might as well take what you have back to town.

It's a simple answer really, no. Just, no. Clearly a trap that is more likely to kill you than grant any kind of benefit, so you slowly back away before deciding to leave for town now that you'd managed a decent enough harvest. You make your way back to town spending part of the journey in the dark though you do have your ever alert bunny servant to keep a good look out which (probably?) is why the trip is entirely uneventful this time aside from the oddity of your new companion. Arriving back at town you are greeted by a pair of guards who stop you as you try to enter,

"Gonna need identification if you're going in. As for that Vicious Rabbit behind you, is it your pet?"

You show the guard your Guild Card, the man pulling out a small dull-grey box to slot it into, before replying.

"Yeah, something like that. Why?"

A series of three beeps issues from the metal box, the guard's face relaxing as he pulls the Card out and hands it back to you.

"All Druids, Beast-masters, Tamers, Summoners, and the like are required to purchase a license if they wish to have their supporters following them around the town. It'll cost a silver for us to issue a license, you will also be expected to take full responsibility for the creature or creatures under your care. They tear up the town? You'll be punished for it.

So, do you want a license or is this thing staying outside of town?"

Do you purchase a license?
[] Yes
[] No

Hefty Rewards and Another Quest Complete
[X] Yes

A license is rather important to have, and besides a silver isn't that much money considering the amount you've managed to make in less than two weeks.

"Sure, I'll get a license then."

Your reply causes the guard to tap a few places on the grey box he inserted your Card into, it's surface lighting up in the process as faint bands of blue light pulse across the surface periodically before disappearing when the box dings. A metal plate the size of your Guild Card pops out shortly after and the guard hands it to you,

"Well, there you go Mr. Stitch. The Lord's Office charged the funds on your card, processed it, and then gave permission to create a Grade D Companion License which is what you have now. With that you are permitted to bring all creatures at Level Four or lower within the premises of the town, up to a maximum of four monster companions that is.

In order to upgrade to a Grade C License and gain the right for Level Eight and lower monsters as well as a group of to ten in size you will need to directly visit the Lord's Office and pass a test. A fee of 75 Silver will need to be paid for every attempt at the test as well, so make sure you're prepared if you don't wish to waste money.

Have a good day, sir."

With that the guards draw aside and allow you to enter the town, your carnivorous pet looking around this strange new place and sending an intense feeling of curiosity along your mental connection. You chuckle and bend down to pat the little thing before heading towards the location of Gerald's Apothecary.

---

After walking all the way across town you finally coming to a stop in front of Gerald's Apothecary, the open sign on the door slanted at an awful angle and the shop window spattered with mud. You can't help but feel a bit of worry as you hesitantly push open the door to find a dimly lit store, counters and shelves covered in various kinds of potions, poultices, pills, and vials in a manner you can only call haphazard. In keeping with the carefree organization of the shop itself, you find no one manning the counter though you can hear the faint sound of gurgling coming from a back room along with chopping noises that sound rough rather than the measured strikes one would expect.

Clearing your throat you call out,

"Hello? I'm here to deliver some Golden Leaf I harvested, I'm from the Adventurer's Guild."

Whoever is chopping stops immediately, the gurgling sound intensifying, before one of the doors behind the counter bursts open to reveal a disheveled young man in a heavily stained and faded green robe. His light blue eyes stare at you coldly, pale skin and bags under his eyes only serving to make the man appear horrifically sick rather than intimidating. A hand moves to push a mass of blonde hair out of the way bringing the full view of his almost hawk-like features into view as he crosses to the counter and slaps a hand on it.

"Gerald. Obviously you're from the Guild. Show me what you brought. Stop wasting my time."

You pull back for a moment, shocked by the man's stilted and blunt speech, before pulling the storage box from your backpack. After placing it on the counter you are given no chance to open it as Gerald pulls it over, opens the case, and immediately sorts the herbs inside into three separate piles that seem to be based on the plants' quality. He glances at the three piles, looks up at you, and then shoots down to stare at the Vicious Rabbit grooming it's fur beside your foot.

"Ah, I see. Four barely usable Golden leaf, forty coppers. Three passable ones, fifty coppers. Two utterly perfect specimens, astounding work honestly. Most people wouldn't be able to avoid causing unnoticeable damage to the roots, but I'm betting your little pet there helped with that. A silver a piece for those. Total of two silvers, ninety coppers. Go get your reward from the Guild, I have experiments."

Without another word Gerald closes the box and hastily gathers the plants into his arms before storming back through the door he came from leaving you unable to say even a word. Relgar had far more weirdos then you ever expected, perhaps the School trims out those of more extreme personalities? Regardless, you have payment to receive at the Guild and this guy clearly isn't going to provide any help now that he's stuck back in whatever experiment he was performing.

---

Upon returning to the Guild you meet a pair of late working Adventurer's like yourself and your usual receptionist, you push any stray concerns to the back of your mind and focus on letting her process the reward onto your card. Due to your apparently fantastic work you end up getting two silvers and ninety coppers as well as five points towards your rank advancement and , likely due largely to the perfect samples you brought back. Walking away from the counter you think about how to proceed now that you've finished today's work.

Early Wake Up Call
[X] Transfer 10 experience
[X] It's about time you got a meal and slept after a long day's work. Maybe they'll have something your Vicious Rabbit can eat.

It's an easy choice really, food and a good bed seems like the best idea right now especially with a hungry carnivorous bunny following you around everywhere. It doesn't take long to find an inn with spare room, too be expected considering how many of them Relgar has due to acting as the crossroads of two highways, where they charge you 30 coppers for room and food. You spend a short while scarfing down fried fish, a half loaf of bread, and a baked potato while your pet bunny consumes half of a roasted version of it's own kin with ease. Bone and all, a very sincere feeling of satisfaction being sit to you in turn.

'Huh, they're cannibalistic as well? Decent thing to note.'

With your meal taken care of you head up to your reserved room and decide to pass out for the night, work can wait until you're well rested and fed once more after all.

---

You are awakened by a rhythmic tapping on your chest, your drowsiness fighting you as you struggle to open your eyes to take a look at the culprit. It's a rather amusing sight as you find the Vicious Rabbit sitting on top of you, it's foot tapping you repeatedly in an effort to get you up for a new day of work as it's head turns to the side slightly observing your expression. A somewhat annoyed swipe sends the rabbit bouncing off your chest and onto the floor as it begins to hop around the room impatiently, your connection making it clear that the little monster wants something to eat. Sighing, you force yourself up and begin the process of gathering your things before heading down to eat your breakfast as well.

As you enjoy oatmeal and slices of bacon you contemplate your actions for the day.

Minion #1 gains 1 Experience.
