Quest to Become a Hero

Any write-in for fighting smarter? Like throwing rocks to lure them into a trap? Can we make trip wires btw?

I doubt the Monsterous Corn Tree will go anywhere overnight. We should probably go back for now. Maybe we can read the second volume of local monster info to see if there's anything about the tree.

We have to find a hunter to buy cords to make tripwires with. Also, we have no idea what the tree is and what it can do. Velvet is down to 3/8 HP.

Perfectly acceptable as a write-in, also you'd have to decide what you're making the traps from and given your current skill level quality work is far from assured.

[X] The big one can't or won't move. Use the rags and oil flasks to make three improvised firebombs, lighting them beforehand and chucking them at the big one, one at a time. Don't approach, just take out the remaining corn if they attack you.

[X] Use your robe and the Monstrous Corn corpses vine arms to tie everything together and bring it back to the Guild, these thing should be durable enough to drag on the ground after all.

Nothing could possibly go wrong, I say.

Quick note: You have only one flask of oil, the number is that the oil it holds is enough for three separate 'uses' such as preparing a single torch. Using it as a firebomb would require the entire flask.

Relief fills you until you hear a sudden pop and feel obvious pain pouring forth from Velvet's end, your body desperately moving to right itself.

I'm pretty this is supposed to be "rope" right? Taking off our Scholar's Robes to tie stuff seems silly when we have a perfectly serviceable rope.

We can't make three fire bombs when we only have one Oil Flask (which costs 75 Coppers each BTW). Plus throwing three fire bombs sounds like complete overkill, just one would probably get them all. Though I'm paranoid about setting that thicket of trees on fire and it spreading into an out of control wildfire.

Lets not start a forest fire, or try making fire bombs when we have absolutely no experience. Sure it might be as easy but we can still mess up and until we have the experience to deal with suddenly being covered in burning oil we shouldn't risk it.

Throwing one bomb then.
That looks like a spawner can't leave it alive.

Fire hazard is small I think, unless its unusually dry

Actually, do we even want to take out the tree? The quest was to collect Monsterous Corn corpses so that people could eat them. If the tree really is a spawner (which we don't know for sure), then it might be better to sell its location so that someone can farm it. I really think we should try to find out more before doing something irreversible.

That's a good point, the Monstrous Corn seems to be treated more like a commodity than the pests or hazards that the Rabbits and other Monsters are. Whether we can find a description of this Corn Tree in the Library or not, when we turn in the corpses we can ask Liara if finding something of this description would be considered valuable or dangerous, and who'd be interested in getting the location from us, either the Guild or a business.

I corrected the "robe" typo, because even though the image of John stripping down to his skivvies to haul Corn is humorous, I don't want him to actually do it.

Well the corn breeds by stealing corn apparently.

Hmm.

Alright.

Absolutely prepared to farm a Monstrous Corn Spawner. We might just want to make sure to spend some time Herb Gathering so that we don't get called a failure. Also, we only have two more days before the skelly quest deadline. Maybe herb gathering Tomorrow for money, buying stuff the next morning, and then another littlebit of monstrous corn fights for EXP?

And giving Velvet all the EXP again because she's our best bun and is really saving our bacon in combat.

We actually did our Herb Gathering earlier in the day, this Monstrous Corn encounter was our end of day side track.

I'm still interested in doing the Vicious Rabbit Quest at least once before we go. We can Dominate the Skinning Copy while getting enough practice to get the skill up to Beginner. We can also stock up on health potions Vicious Rabbit meat for Velvet for the trip if we research smoking meat. We're not going to have a lot of time to farm the Spawn Point (if that's actually what it is) before we leave, so it may be more profitable to just sell the knowledge of its location for other people to farm while we're away. Not to mention that the Corn isn't as efficient as hunting Rabbits, because each individual Rabbit earns more in the Quest Reward than each individual Corn and we get to profit off their pelts and meat (whereas we need to give up the whole Corn for the Quest).

And giving Velvet all the EXP again because she's our best bun and is really saving our bacon in combat.
Velvet actually already earned more EXP from this fight than John did, so I'm fine with not giving her any extra this time. John's gotta Level Up too.

We'll deal with this in the morning. After all, that giant corn thing isn't going to go anywhere.

I think it might actually be more efficient to trade the meat for jerky instead of researching and then trying to make smoked meat if we're still planning to go on the Disaster quest in about 2 days.

I'm still considering whether or not I want to vote for it. John's battle here against the weakest monsters around did not impress me, though he should have people fighting alongside him against the undead. John's father dying in battle is also discouraging. Finally, I just like the idea of continuing to work on our skills while researching in the library, though I know we can't do that forever.

If this is the second group to go, then can we put off the quest for a couple of weeks to go with the next group? There might not be a next group if the situation is resolved in a couple of weeks, but I think it's more likely that an emergency will be declared instead.

I don't want to destroy a spawner folks might actually want without checking. I do not want to fight when Velvet is at 3/8 health. I do not want to set the fields on fire by accident and get executed for carelessness by the lord of the town. The principle is 'question everything' not 'set everything on fire and ask questions later.'

Velvet got more experience from this fight than John did, I don't know why we'd give her more.

This many corn down in one day is really better than I thought John would do, I'm satisfied and still don't want to be out after dark.

[X]Wysteria

For those reasons. Given John's "performance", there's a reason I'm voting for more easy stuff. No sense in becoming another bloody statistic. Not before we've done our second dominate creature. Not before we actually acquire a fighting style we're going to use. We're working at less than full power. Let's pick up more before running after death.

Time to bail out!
Also I'm thinking we might wish to read up on that Monster taking exam and see how that works out. I'm...Not entirely sure what to expect, because a behavior test is one thing but if it tests general aptitude with dealing with monsters that's going to be far different then asking Velvet to roll over and look cute.
I hope you guys don't take offense but uhh, even if we had some bad rolls this is more or less what I figured we were capable of as far as combat goes-good enough to take out a majority of the Corn, not good enough to necessarily take on the big guy.
