I'm including the stealth research vote so that the MC doesn't just sit around if he's still tired after eating. I'm going with stealth over meditation because we already purchased the class on stealth, and I'd like to research it beforehand to get the most benefit out of it.

Should we be purchasing Vicious Rabbit meat to heal up Velvet? We'd need 3 pounds for about 18 Coppers, but I'm not sure how fast regular healing works.

Backstab - You force an opening in your opponent's guard and shift yourself into place to deliver a well timed, well placed reverse grip stab to the foe's back with great force. Such a move is straining on you, but has incredible effects when successfully performed. Make a single attack that deals four times damage to the enemy if it lands, uses a moderate amount of Stamina.

This makes me excited and curious if we could unlock a Parry ability, too!

Skills:
Evasion (Beginner,
8%) - Increases the Difficulty to Hit by 4.

Fighting (Learning Beginner, 32%)

I want to try learning to Fight from our bunny. Maybe we'll get a distinctive Vicious style?

Description: Many farmers and travelers have reported the Green-pelt Wolf population have been restless in the forests nearby, this announcement has been posted to deal with the issue before it can get out of hand. All we need is the fangs for confirmation, the rest you may do with as you will.

I suspect this will become a raid soon enough, if enough adventurers dont sign up

I can't wait for Velvet to get a bit more bulk, poor thing.

I'm inclined not to purchase extra meat for Velvet. She's not in danger, and cash is tight. In general, I want to hunt for her meat.

I'm surprised everyone is just going along with the exam, I thought we'd have more of an argument about this. Was it the good practice session that convinced everyone to go for it?

Could be that the general vocalized plan was Advance asap, so the skill ups and "victory" certainly don't hurt.

We can combat now!

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with that Forest Bear corpse. After all, the MC noticed that the wounds looked like they came from wolves. Maybe the wolves are killing but not eating their prey for some reason.

Also, I think that Velvet has the Fighting skill because she can't really use weapons. Her style of fighting probably doesn't match up to the human body too well since she tends to throw herself at her prey and bite them.

We're not going to have time to hunt down meat for her before the Advancement Exam, which is why I was wondering if we should buy meat to make sure she's at her best beforehand.

The good practice session and the fact that the Dominate Writing buff dissolved are the reasons I'm going for it. After all, a Heroic Spirit is supposed to strive for ever greater heights so we can't stall unless we have a good reason.

If we dominate one, maybe it'll have some "poisoned" status effect letting us know what's going on

(Also, we have to train it to use a short sword in its mouth, for the glory of Sif)

Velvet hops over to nudge the side of your head before laying down next to you, but you pay it little mind as you try to settle your heavy breathing.

Hahhh, I knew getting that Shield was premature, and that we should've saved for the Greenpelt leather armor instead because it's compatible with any build we wanted to go with. Now there's suggestions for just selling it back after carrying it around for days without even getting to use it... Ok, let's see if we can consolidate what we have to work with before suffering the no doubt steep price depreciation that would result from that kind of buy back. At the least, we still want it to deal with the Monstrous Corns' explosive death attack.

Now, we were told that John couldn't dual wield with the shield yet because he wasn't skilled enough to multitask with the dagger, shield, and evasion all at the same time, so my estimate is that he'd be able to start doing that once he's at least Beginner level in all the component skills. Since we now have Beginner Evasion and Dagger Mastery, we just need to get Beginner Shield Mastery to use them together.

However, if we want to focus on the dagger as our primary weapon, then keeping the kite shield probably isn't the best idea. Even though we don't know if this has any mechanical effect, the dagger's minimum length doesn't seem like it would mesh well with reaching out to attack past our more bulky shield's guard. It's really more of a Stealth and Evasion style weapon, at best you could use it with a buckler for parrying in a straight fight.

But since I don't want to use the dagger as our primary weapon, and would prefer to keep it as our holdout and sneak attack weapon, that leaves other options open (funnily enough, having the shield stowed on our back helps protect us from getting Backstabbed ourselves). Because even though we still haven't identified the dagger's damage value, it's probably lower than every other iron weapon of the same tier (although I'm not sure how the Weapon Speed value that just showed itself balances that out). We just discovered our first technique in the Backstab, so we could decide to pick a weapon that's compatible with it. This rules out blunt weapons and slashing-only weapons like axes. I'm pretty sure that the Short Sword and Short Spear can use Backstab, but I'm not nearly as certain about the Long Sword or regular sized Spear.

Of course, we don't have to restrict our build to the first technique we figured out from a single sparring session. I'm sure we could discover equivalent techniques for other weapon types (Chopping an enemy's limb to "debuff" them with an Axe? Covering distance with a Spear Charge to knock over or impale?). Eh, we still need to see what's available at Porcelain before deciding anything.

I can see pluses and minuses to sword, spear, and bow, not that we can afford any of them. One thing I'm certain of is I don't want to go full plate armor stand your ground warrior. We're not the tank.

If we do sell the shield, I'd prefer selling it on the guild card or directly to another adventurer, rather than to the smith. I do not want to offend the smith. Though maybe we could trade it in for a weapon?

It still feels too early to say which weapon would work best for the MC. We might want to see how easy it is for him to improve his stats first. Right now, I think that the strength required for using an axe would just drain his Stamina even faster. I'm even worried about him trying to carry a shield. @The Richmaster, another topic for the To Read list is "how to get fit" or how to improve speed, strength, stamina, etc.

Also, we've been thinking about having the MC learn magic, but it's hard to say beforehand how easy it will be for him to learn it. He might end up taking the class multiple times, which would require us to save up a lot of GP. If he can't learn magic quickly, then he'll need a different way to attack enemies from a distance, like archery or a throwing weapon.

The fighting abilities of our minions should also play a factor. Right now, Velvet is best for harrassing the enemy while the MC deals the major damage. If we get a minion that does more damage, then the MC can support with a spear or long-range attack (assuming he has really good aim). Are there minions that can fight from a distance, or are they all short-range attackers?

One idea I had for fighting pack creatures is to temporarily dominate one and send it to its death fighting its fellows. The opposite of our slow growth strategy with Velvet. I'm not sure about dominate's cooldown, but we could potentially do a lot of damage that way. I'm just not sure if there are downsides to a soulbound companion dying.

I wonder if the one of the hidden features of the Guild is a gym to help their members improve their stats. Of course, there will probably be a fee for some features so we'll have to see if it's worth it, assuming I'm right anyway.

Very glad to see the rogue-ish style has some benefits - I was hoping there was a backstab unlock and I am very proud we got it.

I'm guessing that the "Heroes can be Thieves Right? " helped us unlock that. Backstab is probably a thief skill.

We probably are not going to have that title forever so maybe we want to get that stealth training in soon.

If we pass the exam, I'd like to do herb gathering for the rest of today and do stealth training tomorrow before fighting corn.

Though I suppose if we pass the exam there might be new quests, but the general idea to take stealth tomorrow is good, I think.

Hm... I'd like to actually learn pickpocketing and picking locks from this title, but I don't know what would motivate John to do so. He's pretty law abiding usually.

Good point. Maybe guild trainers for more skills will appear after we pass the test? Maybe at least adventurer rogue type skills like disarm traps and such.

Or we could try to learn those skills ourselves. Maybe there's a book in the library about lockpicking or something.

Lockpicking and trap disarming are both basic rogue skills, so it wouldn't be too far off from the current "theme" for the MC to get motivated to study them in preparation for ancient tombs or haunted prisons or whatever.

Adding the library conditional, but changed stealth for meditation because I find it likely that there's more knowledge and stuff buried under meditation than there is under stealth.

Looks like Stamina is a feature through which Adventurers can go beyond normal limits for a little bit, what with Backstab being able to cause massive damage.

And something I just thought of, maybe when that Evasion instructor commented that we were out of shape and had too little stamina she was actually also referring to the actual thing Stamina, and that's why an ability that Rogues can generally spam out every couple of seconds is mildly exhausting to us.

But still, being able to beat back a Porcelain level guild training bot fills me with warm and fuzzies.

Gained 5 Experience for learning Dagger Mastery, Beginner.
Gained 12 Experience for learning Ability - Backstab.
Gained 5 Experience for discovering Stamina.

Sub-ability Dominate Writing gained 2 Experience.

Gained 4 Experience for discussion in thread.

Shouldn't Velvet have gotten a little EXP for participating in the fight? Or was it too short/safe for any EXP to be earned?

Is there anything else that I might have missed?

Mathematics, local laws, local administration, books on local festivals, Stamina, see if anyone's put together a "101 ways noob adventurers will probably die" book. Maybe read about royalty and the whole feudal structure we've got going on here to. Read about what high-end Adventurers tend to see/do on adventures so we know what to prepare for. See if anyone's written a book on how veteran adventurers generally handle housing.

That's why we don't sell it back, we put it up on the Adventurer's Auction for a smidge under market value. Someone buys it and gets a deal, and we recoup almost all the money we spent on it. Win - Almost Win.

I wonder if there isn't a hidden apprenticeship/mentor program.

We should probably ask Liara about this or see if there's a book in the library that conclusively details what features this Guild has.
