Puella Magi Systema Fractus, or A Practical Guide To Fixing Everything (PMAS/APGTE)

Certain subgroups of people count as one. For example Kyouko and Yuma count as 1 person.

I suspect this depends on level of co-dependence. Basically if a 'person group' separates from each other for too long then they won't count as 1 person.

Madoka Kaname, Kyoko Sakura, and Yuma Chitose all mess with what constitutes this 'group'. Madoka Kaname can function as a member of the group, becoming the fifth member if there are four others, but not affecting the outcome if there are any other number of members. Likewise, Kyoko Sakura and Yuma Chitose together can function as either one member or two, depending on how many others there are."
The confirmed ones here are Madoka who would be paired with Homura* and Yuma who would be paired with Kyoko.

I suspect by increasing our co-dependence co-efficient we can have multiple sub-groups that count as '1 person'. Fortunately we can just ask Oriko if this works before we actually try it out.

*Lets be honest Homura would never let Madoka go through without her.

If that's the case, then wouldn't Mami and Sabrina count as one person?

Also Oriko and Kirika.

I think it's more like an adoptive parent+adoptive child unit counting as one maybe? And Madoka potentially counting as a cheerleader not an active participant ruining the count?
Good points. It might also be a singular rule of a person can only join as long they're not an active participant. There might also be no rule at all and it just works like this for these people because reasons*.

It's on my question list because I'm curious about how it works and to see if we can game it for better results. For example we might have to formulate the teams in advance with requiring a certain amount of co-dependence in the first place to make it work properly. It might not work at all, or maybe filing adoption paperwork will enable additional sub-groups.

Regardless of how it works we're currently coming back with a 23% of someone dying on one of these trips if we go with a team of 5 (and we're definitely going since it's the premise of the quest) so we definitely need to cheat like hell for maximum advantage.

*This is actually the possibility that I think is most likely albeit least helpful for us.

Remember than Oriko's future vision can't predict what actions we'll actually take, we can make good decisions that increase the odds of everyone surviving. Or vice versa. It's presumably modelling an average Sabrina making average actions or something.

So if we're smart about this we have a more than 77% chance of everyone surviving.

Hmm. A roughly 1/20 chance of any of the participants getting killed, eh?

But... neither of those are hard numbers...I cannot into statistics... don't trust my Numbers.

If everyone individually has a 95% chance of survival and each chance of survival is completely independent (unlikely but I don't know how exact the 95% chance of survival thing works) then the chance of 5* people all surviving is 0.95^5 or ~0.77. The chance of at least one person dying is the inverse of this, ~0.23.

*Assuming of course this is the standard 5 not including Madoka or a free Yuma. If it is including them then it's lower. 0.95^6 or 0.73 for one of them or 0.95^7 or 0.689 with both.

Rewrite our roll as 20 because if Madoka died Homura is gemsmashing us. :V

Let's not bog down Chungus with numbers? He has said he doesn't care much for math, the number the threw were just to use as an example: The imporatant take away is that the chance of death for each character is individual, not that the odds of death given are an average.

To be fair, this was already said in the first post, but I just wasn't sure...

[X] Ask Oriko more questions.
-[X] Are your powers back in general or is it just this?
-[X] Ask more about sub-groups. Does [Sabrina, Mami], [Kirika, Oriko], [Homura, Madoka], Sayaka, [Kyouko, Yuma] count as 5?
-[X] Ask for more information about what we say on our return.
-[X] Try to set up a group with 100% success chance. See if learning more about what you say on your return trips can increase success chance.

Mami, Sabrina, Kirika, Oriko all seem like good choices. Kirika and Oriko are pretty much guaranteed really since we need to drag them along to prove it's not a weird trap.

Kyouko seems like a decent choice to bring the numbers up to 5, possibly with Yuma along. We could also recruit outside girls for the final choice.

Homura would be the best choice of course but convincing Homura will be difficult and probably impossible without also bringing Madoka.

Maybe [Sabrina, Mami], [Kirika, Oriko], [Homura, Madoka], Sayaka, [Kyouko, Yuma] for a total of 5. The real advantage of this is that it makes it so that a new crisis forming is going to happen more readily thus bringing everyone back sooner. If there are no magical girls looking after the city then that means simply having some new magical girls rock up to find Sabrina not there will constitute a crisis which we'd need to come back to fix.

Edit: I've added some more questions to ask Oriko, Honestly the fact that Oriko's power works here is so hax, we can just change team composition and ask questions until we get something that Oriko says will have 100% success and walk in already knowing everything we need to.
I know I've been beaten to it, but I think only Kyouko and Yuma can count as one party slot, probably due to Yuma being smol and cute and capable of fitting some sort of 'tagalong' role.

Also, asking after Oriko's powers does sound like a good idea.

Isn't that 6 people?

Also, we should precommit to debriefing Oriko anyway once we're out of the barrier, so that we have the advantage of knowing the highlights of anything important. Oriko can be like "Uh huh, yes, I remember the blue eyed frogs. Yes Sabrina, I was literally right beside you when they tried to eat Sayaka."
That way we don't have to lose out on precog due to taking the seer with us.
Again, beaten to it. I'll edit my voteto make it more clear.

Oh, I was assuming 20 was death, well that's good for us I guess. :p
Hey now, what if it was the 4s that represented death. :thonk: Poor Yuma. Why does it have to be the youngest ones first...

You know, I find it oddly funny that there are two decent write-ins, and the currently winning vote is [ ] Arrange for your absence.
Nothing else, just that.
The counter-PMAS vote

[x] Onmur

Fine I'll vote then. I'm significantly more in favour of Niko than Sayaka though.

[X] Put out ideas for who should come.

Its convenient if you don't like the grouping and are waiting for a more favored group while too lazy to make the group!

Not like there are that many possible combinations. :p

If we want a team of five, and we got these candidates:

Sabrina, Mami, Homura, Sayaka, Kyouko+Yuma, Oriko, Kirika... let's say, Masami, Hiroko, Niko, Kazumi, Kaoru, Umika, Saki, Satomi, Mirai... uh... let's just throw everyone in,

I mean, who are candidates and who aren't? If we limit oureselves to Sabrina's close friends, we got, besides her, Mami, Homura, Sayaka, Kyouko, Yuma, Oriko, Kirika, the Pleiades... everyone else is kind of... not quite as close.

:thonk: OK, so how many groups of 5 can we make with these... 14 candidates (taking Yuma and Kyouko as one):

Basically, we got 14 people and want to make different groups, so there's only 240240 combinations. Not a lot, see? Even less if you count Sabrina and Mami, or Oriko and Kirika, etc., as pairs that need to go together. Also less if you consider it's unlikely we're gonna just ask for 5 Pleiades to go do this adventure thing in our stead. So really, it's not like it's a big number? I don't know what's paralyzing your decision process.

:V

I'm more on the Niko train for more practical reasons. Like wanting Homu to have good support when she's holding Mitakihara and how the hell do we come up with a story to convince Sayaka's parents to let her leave for like a week?

That's terrible. It should be:

[Q] Arrange for your absence.
-[Q] Update Create your Will.
--[Q] In the case of my death, I leave:
---[Q] To Madoka, a refund on all my Potential, I trust in your ability to loophole this to work.
---[Q] To Mami, please grieve for me and then move on. You have many friends who love you.
---[Q] To Sayaka, I leave my sword, that I totally got in a legitimate way.
---[Q] To Kirika, I leave my brain damage.
---[Q] To everyone, love and hugs and all that stuff, you know me.
---[Q] PS: Don't kill each other, pretty please?
---[Q] PSS: Tell Yuma she's a good girl and that she shouldn't think too highly of others opinions about her and that it's OK to ask for help.
---[Q] PSSS: That goes for you too, Oriko.
---[Q] PSSSS: Also you better take care of my Best Buddy, or we'll have words once we meet again.
---[Q] PSSSSS: Also I can finally say this, but I always thought of you as my Best Buddy, Kirika.
---[Q] PSSSSSS: Also don't listen to what anyone says, Homumom, lesbians aren't evil and you should just ask Madomom out.
---[Q] PSSSSSSS: Yes I'm pretty sure I'm your daughter from the future.
---[Q] PSSSSSSSS: Dying is so liberating, I can finally say all these things!
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSS: Look after Nagisa for me, OK?
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSSS: Also, technically, as a teenager you aren't either heterosexual nor homosexual, going by some schools of psychology, this is only set in stone after teenagerhood, and it depends on your experiences.
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSSSS: It's probably more complicated than that.
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSSSSS: Lots.
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSSSSSS: I'm running out of space so I'll just say I love you all and please each of you try to get a good psychiatrist? No offense, but you need them, that's basically a consequence of the same reasons why that rat KB targets you, so really...
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSSSSSSS: The only one who doesn't really need some psych help is basically Hitomi. She's nice and good and sane and mature and all those good things that help you not go crazy.
---[Q] PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS: Really running out of space now so just gonna say

Then what about Homumom and Sabrina?

...

Wait.

an adoptive parent+adoptive child

...

Homura is our biological mother confirmed! Word of Lord Chungus himself!

Checkmate, atheists! :V

Our interactions are Maximum!
Pretty much just voting as who I want to see more of in the quest. I mean Kirika's pretty great, but Orikos no Homura or Kyoko.
