We have better odds of that if everyone knows we're somebody's future self.

"Hey Mysterious new friend, come meet my brother and play with him. Give him a hug." "Um."

"Hey Future Tatsuya, it's like, totally a pop cultural time travel rule never the selves shall meet, so...."

You have a point, still we have to make Madoka promise not to do anything unless it's absolutely necessary, we don't want her to be harmed.

[X] Tell them…
-[X] That you can't remember.

I still want to be the mysterious guy Totallynot!Archer.
As do I, but other people seem opposed to that. I still do not want the "Madoka's brother" or "came back for Madoka" things revealed yet, though. Revealing we're a time traveler is plenty.

You people have no sense of drama. Mysterious man from the future is a well respected trope for a reason, after all.

Honestly, revealing that connection is one of our best cards. No one trusts Homura because she's a complete outsider with uncomfortable truths. We really only benefit, save for the possibility of a Madoka contract, but if Homura can neutralize that with "I came here to protect you" then so can we.
From what I know (haven't watched it, only know stuff from lots of hearsay), part of what made Homura distrusted was gunning for Kyubey in a manner that scared the shit out of both Sayaka and Madoka, aggravated Mami, and generally made a terrible first impression.

Also, I don't see why Tatsuya would just drop that bomb this early. I don't see him being comfortable releasing this private information. I know that if I time traveled and met my family when they were my age, I'd rather not let them know who I was.

I don't know, but this is something I'd rather we reveal when we know what kind of waves it's going to make.

In like, the third timeline, Sayaka distrusts Homura purely because she's saying that Kyubey is bad news.

I also don't feel like retreading pre-established narrative cliches. Tatsuya lacks pretty much all social norms and is effectively a blank slate; he's not predisposed to withholding information any more than giving it because he's never really had much chance to talk to people whatsoever.

He knows these people and trusts them now. "Withhold information from people you otherwise trust" might be too nuanced.

I'm not sure, if we tell them who we are and it somehow slips to you-know-who we are going to be pestered by her until we tell her everything.

Also, our identity gives us more freedom of movement, the moment we tell Madoka who we are you can bet she will try to take us home and make us go to school and stuff, which I remind everyone we are terrible at and that we don't function well in crowds due to our traumas.

I can see why people think that telling them everything is a good idea. I just don't think it is personally.
Sure, telling them everything gets all their trust. But it could have colossal effects later on down the line. We may trust these people, but we don't know how it will affect them. It could be good, it could do nothing, or it could cause considerable complications. I have a feeling option 3 is more likely.
Im fine with everything else, but the brother part just feels like too much. Also, very personal. Telling Madoka that she may be in danger, however, is something i feel we might (depending on her Lemmingness) be able to say safely.

In other news, Bunnycat is interested in our magic. This is Not Good (note the caps people).

Which is why we have to still hold some cards in our hand and get as much information as we can from QB without telling him much at all.

...Uh, I imagine exactly the opposite. "Well, just because you have amnesia doesn't mean you can skip school or be homeless."

VS

"Oh, you're my brother from the future, so...going to school and coming to my house would be weird. Mami-san, do you think you can take him for the time being?"

We'll have to tell Kyubey something, even if it's "I don't know". His insight is useful and we've no reason to suspect it yet. Also, I'd rather risk it because withholding or falsifying information is the biggest cause of tragedy in the series canon. It's not like we're witchbombing them.

We can say we are family with Madoka, which is technically true, and avoid saying we are her brother.
She knows our name is tatsuya. She has a low sense of self worth and is ridiculously caring, but she's not stupid.
Edit: KIRIKA! STAHP.

Kyubey WILL manipulate this information to make Madoka contract. If she contracts, Planet Earth is basically on a timer. Thats honestly the biggest downside of the 'Brother vote', the other one being immense discomfort.

Yes, It's not a big thing, but it's not a little thing either. And it's personal. I just don't feel like it's something to reveal as early as this. Especially in front of Kyubey.
Call it metagaming, but if the option to metagame can be done in character and potentially helps avoid a crisis, I will meta all the games.

Do you really think Mami will let a guy with amnesia without a place to go ? Or if you want to go for Mami loneliness, turn away a possibly magical friend ?

I believe in Mami kindness.

[x] Tell them…
-[x] That you're from the future.
-[x] That you made a deal for power.
-[x] That you're hunting the Devil.
-[x] Not much else to say about me
-[x] Ask Kyuubey what does he mean with his magic not being typical.

Throwing my hat in with Team Dramatic Reveal.

Uh...yea, that's exactly what I was proposing. That Mami would let us be her roommate since we're a displaced magical hobo.
