[] "Must be nice not being a monster anymore, huh?"

Your eyes settled upon the girl before you and you stared at her radiance. You didn't like it. You hated it. You want to get away from it. It only fed your dark thoughts once she greeted you. Your red eyes met hers as you parted your lips.

"Must be nice not being a monster anymore, huh?" You asked with every bit of venom you could muster.

Sai immediately went pale while Reika choked right in front of you. Madoka remains still and expressionless in her gas mask as she watched the proceedings.

For her part, Kazumi's face broke into confusion into that of hurt. She blinked twice at that and stepped back.

"Is this what it takes?" You asked her with an even sharper snarl, "To be loved and cared for? A Soul Gem? Just by getting one people will accept me more?"

Kazumi winced as she stepped back, "I-I..."

"It's not fair. Why do you get to be friends with many while I get shunned?" You spat as you got up your seat.

Sai's eyes widened in alarm as she got up, "Yukina-"

"It's not fair. You must be so happy. Maybe that's why you could smile and laugh that much. Why you're so radiant. If you were a magical girl, no one would bat an eye on what you were before. Because being a magical girl is better than being a monster," you hotly continued as you ended up grabbing Kazumi by the front of her clothes, "It's not fair-"

"Yukina-"Sai snapped at you as you were about to toss Kazumi out of the café.

Your grief spiked up before a hand slammed into your neck. You lost all control of your limbs as you fell on your knees. You crashed into the ground as Madoka stood over you. Her boot rose up and-

It was dark.

.....
....
...

Opening your eyes, you noticed an unfamiliar ceiling. Blinking, you felt a little better now having gotten some sleep. Your seeds were still heavy with corruption but they were at least dormant. You didn't dream of anything though.

You were in a single but bare room. Rising up from your pillow, you looked around and held your neck. You sat on the bedside and thought back on what you did.

You're.... You're in so much trouble. You got up and staggered bare footed to the door. You opened it and came upon a hall. Turning to your left, you followed the sounds of voices until you found your companions.

They were speaking in hushed tones and seemed to have come upon an agreement of sorts. That girl from before was there too, her smile was gone as she had a more serious expression. Sai must have explained the situation then.

They turned to you once they noticed your presence. Reika shot you a glare while Madoka stared you from the wall impassively. Sai faced you without any emotion, simply giving you a scrutinizing look while Kazumi was... Wary. Almost scared.

"Yukina. You're up," Sai said in an unnatural clipped tone.

You winced at that as if you had been struck, "Yes..."

"Are you feeling better now?" Sai asked again as if her words were needles to your consciousness. She wasn't your friend now. She was your superior you just embarassed on a level even she found unacceptable.

"Yes... Ma'am," you said as you slowly made your way to the side.

"Come here," Sai continued as her eyes pinned you in place. It wasn't a request.

You did as you were told as Kazumi composed herself while you stood by Sai's side.

"We've come to a conclusion. Kazumi has generously allowed us to investigate within Asunaro while in secret. But again, like with Umika, she has her conditions," Sai said as she glanced at the other girl, "These conditions will hold until we're done here."

"Sorry," Kazumi said as she lowered her head regretfully.

"What are the conditions?" You asked warily.

"You will stay here in this apartment and never set foot outside. This room, this place will be where you will be staying until called upon by either anyone in this room. Except Kannazuki-san of course," Sai explained as she met your gaze that seemingly took hold of your heart, "You will not go anywhere but here. You will stay and behave... So that no other person would be harmed by your presence."

"We have enough reason to do so," Reika added as she closed her eyes on the side, "Lady Kaguya has great trust on you after the two incidents you completed. After what we witnessed, as your superiors, we're obligated to report your performance should that trust be squandered."

"Do you understand, Yukina?" Sai asked you with a steely tone.

*sighs* Yeah, thought that might happen. Wasn't sure which, if any, options would allow her to keep her temper. Maybe the punch request was the best option, since we'd be asking first...

Building a write-in for once. Trying to keep it minimal, and I hope I'm not pushing it too far, but there are a couple of important things to say at some point here.

[X] "I understand. I will say and await further orders."
-[X] "What should I do if I am attacked or forced out?"
-[X] Apologize for attacking Kazumi before they leave. It was not her fault, and you shouldn't have lost it like that.

Witches are a problem, and we are on a stealth mission, too. Establishing an emergency procedure now might prevent misunderstandings later.

We lost our shit, and should prove we're more than a caged beast.

I agree with throwing Kazumi an apology, I really didn't expect Yukina to go off that bad on her. Disagree with asking about response to an attack. It's possible for a witch to come over sure, but it hasn't happened the entire time Yukina was in Kyoto. Not much reason to think it's going to happen now. Plus this is pretty much a safe house in an area under Kazumi's control. That's kinda saying we don't trust her to keep her house in order, and with the kinda trouble Yukina's in she can't risk that kind of faux pas.

Wow, I think that was one of the few times where the jokish vote was less terrible then the actual set option winning. I mean, yeah, the framing of it was kind of ridiculous, but leaning towards comfort from a friend(?) in a emotionally volatile situation isn't an inherently terrible idea. As opposed to well... that.

Ah we're hitting rocks sigh.
Should we be desperate to make amends or wait for them to make a move to ask.

Right now it's best to have Yukina sit tight. It's not she has nothing to do while waiting for the trouble to start. Dump grief into something in the apartment, try sleeping to work on the witches. Just apologize to Kazumi for now.

We might not have to worry about witches attacking us but I'm not about to dismiss the possibility that hostile magical girls might arrive for one reason or another. We should have a plan established, just in case.

Yowch, was *not* expecting it to go that far off the rails

Except that we're being kept here behind the backs of Kazumi's own allies; we have every reason to be worried about discovery.

Asking Sai what the hell we're supposed to do in an emergency is better than being forced to wing it later, potentially causing another major incident. Hopefully, Kazumi doesn't take offense, but I'd rather be a tad impolite (I mean, we just attacked her, this doesn't compare) than have no recourse if we get forced out of our assigned area.

Well, that happened. Time for damage control and be a good girl in her playpen.

You met Sai's gaze and nodded, "I understand. I will stay and await further orders."

"It's good that you do understand," Sai nodded as she regarded you with a judgemental look.

"What should I do if I am attacked or forced out?" You asked her with a wary tone.

"You may fight. But flee if you must," Sai replied just as firmly, "Kazumi has secured the place away from her fellow's eyes and influence. You should be grateful."

"That I am," you said as you lowered your head. You then turned your eyes to Kazumi as she noticeably flinched at your gaze, "I apologize for attacking you. It... Wasn't your fault. I shouldn't have lost it like before."

Kazumi gave you a surprised look but said nothing as she faced Sai, "I can direct you to some people... That can help you. You should lie low while moving through."

"We'll keep that in mind," Sai replied as she nodded, "The information you gave is useful. I really appreciate it, Kaz."

"It's fine. I owe you after all," Kazumi replied as she got up, "I'll be going now. Umika and Kaori will probably start wondering where I am."

"Right. We have some things to settle here as well," Sai stated as she shot you a look. You winced as if you had been pinned to the wall.

Kazumi bowed and said her goodbyes before leaving out the door. She spared you one last look, a worried one, before Madoka shut the door after her.

Sai and Reika remained seated before the former spoke.

"Yukina. In front," Sai ordered in the same unnaturally hard tone. She hasn't returned to normal yet. You didn't like her being this way.

You did as she told you and ended up standing before her and Reika. Sai leaned forward and brought her hands together.

"Yukina... We have to talk," she began calmly as Reika glared daggers at you with her arms crossed. Fortunately the older girl took the lead, "I'll admit, you put is in quite the situation. One I would have thought you wouldn't incite."

"I'm sorry," you apologized.

"I know. You were upset. It was something you were unfamiliar with and I admit I could have done better in helping you," Sai swallowed as disappointment dripped from her words, "But I could have at least hoped you to do better too."

"We don't know what Kazumi's next move is. And after that poor show, she might now be as open to helping us than before," Reika added as she stared you down, "Honestly, what the hell?"

"I'm sorry," you uttered again.

"Yukina. I know you can do better and be better. That's why I'm willing to look past what you did. But I cannot just stand aside and not let you carry a lesson for that," Sai said as she looked at you hard, "I know you're capable and that you're a good girl. I can't expect you to be perfect. But I want you to have some measure of control."

"I'm sorry," you murmured once more.

"I don't need your apology, I need you to promise. Don't be like that with others again. It's not just for our sake but for yours too... It's good that you apologized to Kazumi but... You scared her," Sai pointed out as she gave you that look. That look of disappointment.

You could feel needles sinking in your flesh. You lowered your head. Your mistake.

"That said, it's your first real offense. Reika and I won't say anything to Kaguya. But we will if Kazumi ends up passing a note along to the Boss," Sai told you as she got up and crossed her arms, "I hope you understand what you did."

"I do. I'm sorry," you replied as you clenched your fist in regret.

Sai managed a small smile and pat your shoulder, "Then I hope you'll abide by Kazumi's conditions. We'll be leaving."

You blinked in surprise as Reika got up too and moved past you. You turned to look at them and ask, "Why... Where are you going?"

"Out. Just so we can leave this city faster and get somewhere else," Reika said as she glanced at you, "We'll be fine. So stay here. We'll be back in a few hours."

"I..." You turned as Madoka nudged your side.

Her muffled voice came from inside her mask, "I'll keep an eye on them."

You grimaced at that as your three companions left for the door. Sai waved at you goodbye before shutting the door. You felt a spike of magic as you found that the door had been sealed. It was most likely Madoka's work.

You reached out for the doorknob and winced once it sparked. No getting out, huh? A shame.

Well... It seems like you're stuck by yourself for now. You walked to the sofa and sat there. You waited.

.....
....
...

Once you opened your eyes, you found that you were lying on sand. You must have dozed off if you were were here in your mindscape. You felt a chill behind your back as you pushed yourself off the ground and dodged.

A gear fell right on top of where you were. This was followed by another which struck you square on the head-

.....
....
...

You woke up. Blinking weakly, you opened your eyes to find that the sky had turned orange at some point. The sound of the doorbell rang through the bare safehouse before you fell down the sofa.

Rising up, you staggered to the front door. You felt for your forehead as you looked through the hole of the door. There was no one there. You then heard knocking on the balcony's glass door to find someone there.

You recognized her by her long black hair and red eyes. It seemed that she was the one responsible for the knocking.

Kazumi raised a plastic bag and waved at you with a small but friendly smile. You stared at her before walking over and unlocking the glass doors. Kazumi peered inside past you before speaking.

"Are they still gone?" She asked brightly with a curious tone.

"They've yet to return. Did you need something?" You asked her back in your normal monotone.

Kazumi raised her plastic bag, "Let me cook you something!"

You were left confused before she wore a determined look on her face. You stepped aside to let her in. Kazumi immediately conquered the kitchen and got to work. It seemed like this was going to take a bit.

.....
....
...

You didn't say anything or do anything while the other girl was working. You simply waited by the table as she finished up and served you the food on a plate. It was pasta covered in white sauce. It had an interesting smell as you looked down on it.

Kazumi waited by the side with her apron as she stared at you in anticipation. You didn't detect any poison in it. She wasn't trying to kill you at least, not that poisons would work on you anyway.

You took a bit of the pasta and twirled your fork. Taking a bite, you were hit by a delightful flavor with the force of a speeding truck. You were stunned before you ended up finishing your plate. Clean... There was nothing left.

"That's a relief," Kazumi sighed as you looked up from your empty plate, "I'm glad you finished it."

"What... Is this for?" You asked her with a confused tone.

"I wanted to apologize. For earlier," Kazumi admitted as she fidgeted where she stood, "I... Must have done something wrong to make you feel that way. And I want to make things right. So... I was hoping this will make you feel better."

You studied her face as your eyes widened slightly, "I... I should be the one apologizing."

"No. Umika must have said some mean things to you. It must be why you were like that. Umika is my friend you see but she's just lookin out for the city. I want to apologize for what she said to you," Kazumi said as she bowed her head. She let out a shaky breath, "It must have hurt, right? I... I can't make her take her words back but I was hoping you can forgive her."

She was apologizing for her friend's sake? Even after you attacked her? She came all this way to apologize and cook you food.

"Why... Why after what I did to you, would you do this?" You asked her with a heavy tone.

Kazumi raised her head in surprise before chuckling at herself, "I think we just got off the wrong foot. And I think we can do better. Besides, anyone who doesn't leave anything on their plate can't be a bad person."

You raised your eyebrows before looked down your plate, "It was delicious. Thank you."

"I'm glad," Kazumi smiled brightly, "Well... I should introduce myself again. My name is Subaru Kazumi. I'm a 3rd year in Asunaro public Middle School. I like cooking and sewing. You can call me Kazumi if you like. Nice to meet you."
