    Sai kept hugging you to subdue you. Unfortunately for her you had gravity powers so all her strength was for nothing. Her limbs left your body and you easily slipped away from her hold. You then jumped away as she groaned in defeat once you stood by Yuri's side.

    You fixed your clothes as you crossed your arms, "Yuri and I will be back later. Try not to drink too much."

    "I swear if I was a normal girl, I'd curse alcohol for this headache. Thank god for magic," Sai groaned as she held her head.

    "You're welcome," Kyubey chimed in as it climbed from under the table.

    "I wasn't talking to you!" Sai barked in annoyance.

    You and Yuri left the bar to exit the building. Riding the elevator down, you both stepped out into the daylight. The sun shined down as the mid-morning traffic took shortcuts through the street the bar was in.

    Commuters were hurrying off to work as schools were already in their second period classes. You looked about before you and Yuri moved to head back to her house. It wouldn't do for you to be caught by the police now. It would be suspicious after all if two young girls were found loitering out of school at this time.

    Yuri provided you with a bit of her magic to overcome that.

    "Kyubey normally uses this. It's a bit of perception canceling if you think about it," Yuri said as she walked by your side.

    "So that's why people can't see us," you noted as you looked around. You then glanced down at your creator, "You're pretty amazing. Is that your power?"

    "No. But being a Tuner allows me to be more versatile in everything except combat," Yuri giggled as she smiled your way, "I can enhance, heal and relieve people but that's most I can do. What I'm doing now is a form of enchantment. My role as support stems from my wish after all."

    "Which is?" You asked with a curious look.

    "To be helpful," Yuri said with a satisfied look. She looked ahead with a confident expression on her face, "I admired my sister. I wanted to be like her. But I knew myself well, I wouldn't be cut out to be in her shoes. It's why I chose the next best thing... And with the skills I acquired... I managed to make you."

    You studied her expression before nodding, "Genius alone wouldn't have been enough. You worked hard."

    "I did. I was also desperate..." Yuri admitted as she shook her head.

    "It seems like not being part of the organization is a good thing after all? You look better," you told her with a closer look.

    "Is that so? Well it did help me expand who I can assist," Yuri chuckled lightly at that. She crossed her arms, "Still... Yukina, do you have any wishes that you have?"

    "You sound like Kyubey," you readily pointed out.

    "Humor me," Yuri said as she walked ahead of you.

    You considered it. A wish. However...

    "I don't. There's nothing to wish for," you told her in earnest. You looked up at the buildings around you, "I'm just a Corpse."

    "You can be human. If you wish for it. It's what Asunaro's Saint wished for," Yuri said before catching herself, "Well we'll still be magical girls so not entirely human."

    "I like being a GriefBorne. It's a testament of your skill and genius. People told me, a GriefBorne powered with one Seed is a miracle, one powered by five? That's just beyond everything everyone knows," you told her with a small smile. You shook your head as you walked, "I'm satisfied. Plus if it comes down to it, that wish is my last resort. I'll only use it when things are truly dire."

    But you won't. Because once this was all over, the body will be returned to its rightful owner. It was all you asked for at least, for everything Yuri has done for you.

    You wanted her to be happy.

    You sat in Yuri's sofa as she had transformed into her costume. She was akin to a magical doctor ready for war. Though you could say she was a combat medic judging by how she looked. A white coat was draped over her shoulders as she wore a blue blouse beneath filled with frills and decors.

    "We're done checking your seeds. They're fairly corrupted but I guess that's from your fight yesterday?" Yuri guessed with a raised eyebrow.

    "Yes. I had an encounter with a Witch and the killer at the same time. I have high firepower but I lack stamina," you told her as you looked at your hands.

    "It's normal. Well no, not normal but your body can't handle the strain if you fight for a long time. The trick would be to slowly have it get used to you being on high corruption," Yuri said as she crossed her arms as she checked your face, "The body of my sister is strong. Resilient and malleable. It's a testament of her power from before which is why she's an excellent vessel for you. However even then it's still just a human body. It needs to get used to your corruption."

    "But how does this help with my energy expenditure?" You asked.

    "I can't adjust your Soul Gem since you don't have one but my advice as a Tuner would be to just practice," Yuri said as she handed you some tea, "You only woke up a few days ago. Your body has adjusted to your current state. In time, you'll be able to keep up with the rest of us."

    "I'll hold you on to that," you replied with a nod.

    "However now I should be able to help you experiment with your magic. I won't be able to help with your offensive powers but the support Seeds I implanted can be improved by me," Yuri said as she crossed her arms, "But you have to come up with the experiment though. I'm just here to stabilize you."

    I'm always up for mind-fucking our enemies in combat. That's not something anyone can really defend against, especially considering how consistently screwed up magical girls are.

    I think what we learned in fights so far is that we're ACE on the attack because WitchPowers used intelligently, but unlike actual Witches we don't have the durability of being a 30ft tall crime against physics. We need to be able to defend without interrupting our action or costing too much.

    You did have something you wanted to try. You and Yuri moved by the riverside to practice beneath a bridge. It was a secluded place only she knew and there wasn't that many people coming and going. You were reminded of where the first bodies you ever saw were disposed at.

    Still what you were here for isn't for reminiscing. Yuri stood before you in her costume and five floating orbs behind her back. She didn't have much to show in terms of firepower but if she could attack you then it would be great. The low output of her attack was good too since it won't raise your corruption. Even if it did you can just dump it nearby.

    So here you were with Yuri observing you while you drew power from Nacht. She fired to which you responded by guarding. Invisible panels shined as the bolts of magic struck it, being absorbed by your body. Yuri fired another salvo before you blocked perfectly, gathering energy as you blocked continuously.

    Once the energy grew too much to bear, you release it upon a metal barrel waiting by your side. It was split open as if fired upon by a sniper rifle. That was the extent of Nacht's defensive ability aside from acting as your armor during fights. The only reason your body didn't break apart was only due to her power holding you together. It was handy to say the least.

    Yuri observed your panels before the winked out of sight.

    "Impressive. That's really impressive," she said as she rubbed her chin, "The panels absorb the force behind attacks and have them build up. Once they reach a critical point, the release could be returned and cause devastating amounts of damage."

    "It's my only defensive option. Passively, it helps me be durable while using it actively nets me a shield but only if I guard perfectly," you said as you glanced at the panels and then at your hands.

    "What about in close combat? Like say between magical girls?" Yuri asked as she crossed her arms.

    "I can use it to an extent but it starts getting fuzzy. Like it can't fully form when near me," you said as you had a panel slowly fade when it nears you at a certain distance.

    "What if you focused on your forearms. Create a shield from that panel?" Yuri suggested with a raised eyebrow.

    You held out your hands and conjured the shape of a buckler. Yuri watched in surprise as you held the form of the panel and reshaped it. Soon enough it took form and adopted the same transparent look as when the panels would be active when defending you.

    Holding it for a moment was all you were capable of right now. It kept fading away as soon as you didn't focus on it. You frowned as you held it in place on your forearm before it vanished.

    "Yuri, punch me," you ordered her much to the other girl's surprise. She didn't argue but wound up for a clumsy swing.

    Even if it was her, she was still a magical girl. The force behind her punch could easily send you sliding back while launching a normal person otherwise. You were far from normal however.

    You held up your forearm and caught her fist right on the shield as you shoved her hand aside. You opened her guard up as you stopped your hand inches away from her chest. The shield vanished as she gasped in surprise.

    "Again. I'll do it early," you said as she punched you again.

    One... Two-

    Gone.

    Yuri's punch connected with your collarbone and forced you down. You slid back on your knees as Yuri yelped.

    "Are you okay?" She asked as she tried helping you out. You held the spot where you were hit and nodded. She still packed a punch...

    "It's temporary. But it should be stronger than the active shields I use to absorb incoming attacks," you said as you inspected your hand. You felt for your seeds and found that Nacht hadn't taken much effort in doing that.

    You focused but found that the shield wasn't appearing. Yuri came at you with a pipe and struck your head.

    CLANG


    You held your head as you staggered forward. Yuri gasped before dropping the pipe. You turned to look at her with a dead expression.

    "Why?" You asked her in your driest voice ever.

    "Oh my god, I'm sorry. I thought you were going to block," Yuri whimpered as you rubbed your head. It was painful alright. Real painful.

    You sighed as you simply inspected your body some more. The most it could do was two seconds. A two second window for you to block an attack perfectly. You can probably even try blocking Reika's sword with this if you timed it right. You didn't absorb the kinetic energy that struck it but you can defend yourself better.

    With this, your defensive options has grown. You're not sure how well it would fare against Witches but that remains to be seen. But with Magical Girls it's a different story altogether.

    Yuri walked by your side and said, "Yukina... My sister didn't really fight the way you do."

    "Is that show?" You asked with a raised eyebrow.

    "She used weapons as a part of her moveset. She was capable of melee combat while having tricks to bombard enemies from afar too," Yuri said as she rubbed her shoulder. She shook her head and sighed, "I mean. She was real good at those too. No wonder people were afraid of her. Your style seems to center around your fists and legs but it's not a uniform style."

    "I just use what I have. If I have a weapon, maybe I'll be more effective. But I think relying on it is foolish. It'd be nice but I like the feeling of flesh being struck by my knuckles," you said you lightly smiled.

    "Well you got her personality down pat," Yuri noted as she crossed her arms. She did raise her hand as she said, "Well I am researching a thing."

    "What thing?" You asked with a frown.

    "Maybe you can use my sister's powers if you try," Yuri said with a bright smile.

    "Her... Powers?" You asked with a frown.

    "Yes. I have records of Asunaro's GriefBorne having something like that. Maybe it's going to be possible for you too. Though I'd like it if I could talk with the Magical Girls in that city," Yuri said as she kicked a rock aside.

    You smiled lightly at her then, "Maybe we'll see if we can visit them after we catch the Assassin."

    Yuri blinked at that before smiling. However your peace was short lived as you turned to see a few girls walk down the slope leading to the underside of the bridge. Magical girls from the looks of it. They were in school uniforms too. Locals?

    "Hey! You have no business here, Uchida. This territory is ours now. Organization rules. So scram and go back to your house or something," the tanned girl up front said as she crossed her arms.

    Yuri winced at that and hid behind you. You then turned to look at them with a narrowed gaze.

    "We gotta leave," Yuri breathed as she tried pulling you. Except you didn't go with her.

    The girls up front didn't like the way you were looking at them. They got a better look at you and scoffed.

    "What are you looking at, Corpse? You be a good girl and take that traitor out of our sights. Or else we'll rough her up. Go on," the lead girl tried shooing you.

    "Yukina," Yuri murmured behind you. She had genuine worry in her voice before you turned.

    "Good riddance. We don't need dead bodies stinking up the place. How the mighty has fallen with a great gal like Yukina ending up like a Corpse. You're fucked in the head, Uchida!" The girls jeered as you left. You felt something in your head twist before you stopped.

    Yuri shuddered as she looked at you and then at the Witch runes marking the skin on your arms.

    "Yukina..." She breathed warningly.
