Progressive (Sword Art Online Quest)

Nanospeed, what is your personal opinion on the currently winning option? Not for "How good it is" but more "How do you feel about it".

Can we get Kirito to look closer like a trap as time goes by?

Cause I still want a canon scene where Trap!Kirito cuddles with a Slime.

*sigh* Can these trap-kirito talks cease for a while a least? If you want you can always make another quest yourself with this theme or bug someone else to follow the such idea.

And there is a TBD's quest allready, as have been linked.

TBD's isn't really a Trap though, its a flat out gender bender. The PC is female, so even if Kirito is male in the real world he is 100% female in the game... in that sense I guess he's both a trap and a gender-bend? Although I don't think we're getting out any time soon so the trap part isn't really relevant .

But Kirito never plays a female. Canon Kirito always played as a male avatar, even in GGO. This quest's Kirito is also male, mentioned in the second update. There is no female avatar anywhere, which is why the following behind playing as Trap!Kirito and such is confusing.

The GGO avatar was feminine and could even pass as female, but it was all male.

Yeeessss... And TBD's quest has us using a side-character that we played on the last day of the beta that was actually a female character.

I'm honestly not to sure where you were going with that comment as I didn't even mention anything about this quest's Kirito being female, or canon Kirito playing a female character.

Awesome, good for him.

Now why does that matter here where we have no choice nor reason to play as a female?

I guess it wasn't really at you and more at other players like Burning Claw who want to play as Trap!Kirito. Kinda miffs me is all.

Can I get a link to sate my curiosity?

[X] Specialist Swordsman:
2 DEX, 2 AGI, 1 STR. A physical DPS build with an emphasis on sword skills.

You decide to invest your remaining points into the dexterity attribute. Your raw damage may suffer, but the increase in cooldown reduction will certainly make up for it. You'll just have to learn skills that are either heavy hitting or strikes multiple times, which, naturally, have the high post-motion delays.

You press the appropriate buttons and close the holographic window with a dismissive wave. You then pick up your sword. It's time to slay some more slimes.

Without warning, you feel tremor in the ground. A faint tremor, barely noticeable. It stands out only because everything else is silent. The chirping of birds, the buzzing of insects- all of it, gone.

You kneel and place a palm onto the hard earth, waiting for another vibration to stimulate your virtual nerves. Something is happening, something big. It may be an earthquake.

There's a second tremor, a stronger tremor. Its force causes an echo to sweep through the sea of trees. A flurry of green, yellow and red leaves falls slowly before expiring into colorful shards of polygons.

You notice Coper's HP bar tanking hard in your peripheral vision. Something is hurting him, something stronger than a slime. You believe that that this earthquake and Coper's damage occurring simultaneously is no mere coincidence.

There's a third and a fourth tremor. Its frequency is increasing at an alarming rate. Whatever is the cause of all this is getting closer and closer.

You prepare to run. In SAO, experiencing something new means that you're either very lucky or very unlucky. Now, which will it be?

"Kiir-iii-toooh!" Coper cries out desperately as he emerges into the clearing in full sprint. "Run away! Run away! Run away!"

Ah- It must be the latter.

A hulking green mass bounces- no, crashes in. Its landing is enough to create a shockwave that sends rocks, trees and even other slimes in every single direction. It's a slime, a really big slime, a slime the size of a Stormhaven log cabin.

Coper races pass you. His HP bar in the red zone.

You turn and follow suit.

"Hey there," Coper says in a ridiculously photogenic expression. "Come here often?"

"What did you-" Your words are momentarily cut off by another shockwave. "What did you do!?"

"Well you know, the usual," he answers and shrugs his shoulders while still in mid sprint. "Spamming sword skills, drinking pots, killing my 151th slime, so on and so forth. Then this thing shows up out of nowhere."

"CHUUU!" The slime squeaks in a deafening volume that is pitched down in two octaves. Its face is all smug, like it fully knows well that the tables are turned.

"And you thought it was best to lead him to me?" You ask incredulously.

"I haven't thought that far-" Coper's voice drowns out as another shockwave rivets the wooded area.

You both continue to vault over logs, slide under branches and run around small trees. You briefly glance back and watch as the slime simply plows through a boulder, shattering it in the process. It's getting closer and closer. What's even worse is the fact that your stamina reserves are nearly dry.

"Kirito! Look!" Your companion yells and points up ahead.

You turn and see a skyscraper tree- a behemoth tree, its thick branches are like stairs. There's one particular branch that stands out, one with a familiar circular structure. It's a safe zone!

"Climb!" You yell and sprint like a runner in the final stretch of a race.

Somehow you make it up 25 feet up when the slime rams into the base of the tree. You maintain your balance and make it up 50 feet, out of its reach, by the time it decides to bounce.

Coper sits down next to you, his clothing in tatters. He's breathing hard, but he manages to retrieve a health potion and slowly drink.

You use your «Observe» skill.

Giant Slime [Mini-boss]
Level: 3
Elemental Affinity: ?

A creature formed from the collection of slime tears. The Giant Slime will pursue those who sent his kind into the afterlife. It will give up chase after ten minutes of being idle. The Giant Slime has a rare chance of appearing only if adventurers kill slimes too fast in secret areas.

Attacks:
Splintering Shockwave, Corrosive Spray, Summon Sticky-Slimes
· Physical Damage: 30
· Inflicts: Impact

Defenses:
Jelly Body
· Physical Defense: 15
· Magical Resistance: 15
· Resists: None

The Giant Slimes HP bar... It's in the red zone!

That's right. You didn't think much of it at the time, but you remember seeing its HP drop every time it aggressively plowed through an environmental obstacle.

Could this be a chance?

You decide to...

[ ] Sword Skills (Cost: 30 MP). Diagonal, Vertical and Horizontal. Your 5 invested stat points aren't going to make much difference yet. Still, you believe that there's a chance at taking the mini-boss down if you skill spam.
· If victory, LA bonus... [Kirito 3] : [1 Coper]

[ ] Basic Attacks. The Giant Slime is still a considerable threat even while low. You decide to take your time in order to reduce the potential damage you may incur.
· If victory, LA bonus... [Kirito 2] : [1 Coper]

[ ] Switch (w/ Coper). He's low on both HP and health potions, but he probably wants a piece of that action. Let him go in first, then slip in as few attacks as you can to avoid all possible aggro and damage.
· If victory, LA bonus... [Kirito 1] : [1 Coper]

[ ] Retreat. You recall the Giant Slime breaking through small trees and boulders like nothing. Defeat is imminent. Guarantee your survival by waiting 10 minutes and let it de-spawn.
· Survive and forfeit LA bonus.

Warning Combat Segment

A Guide to Combat - Part II

This 'Guide to Combat - Part II' helps in predicting reward, while 'Guide to Combat - Part I' predicts risk.

Predicting risk is way simpler, but in exchange, a luck factor is involved.

Let's start...

1) You will see a condition (i.e. If victory, If hit, If miss, etc) and an outcome (i.e. LA bonus, burn, paralysis, etc) in bullet form.

2) A condition will be either fulfilled (i.e. Kirito stays alive) or failed in the next chapter (i.e. Kirito dies), which ties back to risk (see 'Guide to Combat - Part I').

3) If the condition is fulfilled, Kirito gets a chance at the outcome by rolling the indicated number of dice. His opponent will try to negate the outcome by getting a higher roll. Dice values stack up so rolling more is better.

4) In the case of loot, rolling higher than the opponent will allow Kirito another dice roll to see what has dropped. Items are not ordered by rarity. See the 'Spoiler: Drop List' in the current segment to see what you can get!

The Quest Master will cast the die.

Good luck!

Patch Notes
'A Guide to Combat - Part I' has been changed to discuss risk. Part II, this segment discusses reward.
1) Step #3, 'Check your weapon and check the opponent's armor', no longer requires math! You still check Kirito's Physical Attack on the Data Sheet and the opponents Physical Defense (unless otherwise stated) in the segment and see if one is higher than the other. That's it!

+3 Points if Kirito's Attack > Opponent's Defense by three times
+2 Points if Kirito's Attack > Opponent's Defense by two times
+1 Points if Kirito's Attack > Opponent's Defense
+0 Points if Kirito's Attack = Opponent's Defense
-1 Points if Kirito's Attack < Opponent's Defense
-2 Points if Kirito's Attack < Opponent's Defense by two times
-3 Points if Kirito's Attack < Opponents Defense by three times

(Examples of 'two times' - 100 vs. 50, 149 vs. 50, 2000 vs. 900, etc)
(Examples of 'three times' - 10 vs. 5, 1000 vs. 100, 10000 vs. 100, etc)

2) Step #4, Check your armor and check the opponent's weapon', is simply the reverse.

+3 Points if Kirito's Defense > Opponent's Attack by three times
+2 Points if Kirito's Defense > Opponent's Attack by two times
+1 Points if Kirito's Defense > Opponent's Attack
+0 Points if Kirito's Defense = Opponent's Attack
-1 Points if Kirito's Defense < Opponent's Attack
-2 Points if Kirito's Defense < Opponent's Attack by two times
-3 Points if Kirito's Defense < Opponents Attack by three times

3) Damage modifiers (i.e. Slash, Puncture, Impact) is broken and is currently DISABLED

4) 'True Point Value (TPV)' has had its name changed to 'Battle Score'

5) Step #7 no longer tells how much damage you will do. It's up the narrative of the current and relevant segments to tell the reader how effective each action will be. Step #7 still tells you how much damage you will take

6) Step #7 no longer tells you what the best choice is. It will simply say 'Good' or 'Poor' in regards to risk (i.e. how much damage you take), but it does not evaluate reward

tl;dr Quest mechanics changed, cleaned up 'A Guide to Combat - Part I' in chapter 1, segment 4 to be more player friendly

Front Page/Data Sheet updated.

Not taking any chances.

I'm pretty sure we're in a bad situation, also negativehorizon, thats not how combat works, swordskills are option A, which means only works best if we have a big advantage. Right now we're kinda blowing it, technically we're even at retreat levels i'm pretty sure, but like hell we're running away.

Edit: Actually if i'm right then the only way to even damage it is swordskills, so yeah.
