Playing in the Sun (Gamer/Exalted SI)

roll? I admit, I'm speed reading through things, but wouldn't [Gamer's Mind] just outright laugh at some of those?

Yeah.
The Gamer's Mind is supposed to be a Perfect Defense against Compulsion, UMI, and Emotion effects. Illusion is kind of iffy.

I'd have to see more, but this is beginning to look less like an Exalt with the powers of the Gamer, and more like an Exalt with access to the character sheet, and game knowledge such as item descriptions.

With the exception of the sleep instantly restoring everything part.

Was kind of hoping to see an Exalt with the full Gamer package.

Eh, I'd imagine [Gamer's Mind] wouldn't work on projected illusions (like holograms) but would lolnope any that tried to affect the mind.

PC body seems underpowered too compared to what Jee-Han has.

Yeah, which is disappointing.

The different types of illusions is why I said illusions were iffy.

I was worried about making Vidicon TOO overpowered, and I've never actually read The Gamer. I've made some edits.

It might help to do so a little if this is supposed to be a cross with it, or at least something similar to a wiki crawl. Though you could just make this a game fic and cut out needing to do a crossover SI, and just make it Exalted SI where the SI has video game powers.

Yeah I agree here, it was a bit weird to see the disconnect with [The Gamer], you could easily do that.

Also the read isn't bad, and the first few chapters might give you some ideas. Although mind, Jee-Han for obvious reasons of the Writer not wanting to do that doesn't put his points into WIS. (well, up until the latest chapters anyway).

...I guess if you wanted to purely read a Gamer Crossover, Ryuugi on Spacebattles is writing a RWBY/The Gamer one, which has a good explanation of the mechanics of it all.

The thing about [Gamer's Body] is that it basically makes you immune to stuff like broken anything. (as in broken body parts, as an ability it is hilariously broken)

Really, just Gamers Mind & Body is ridiculously powerful. No broken anything, no shell shock, no normal flesh/mind weaknesses beyond just not having high enough stats or access to the right skills actually.

If you're going to give him the powers of the Gamer, he should 'have' the powers of the Gamer.

If you don't want him to have the powers of the gamer, you should probably remove it from the thread title, and just say 'inspired by the Gamer powers' or something. Otherwise, kind of feels like a bait and switch, to be honest.

Sorry, if I'm coming across as pushy.

"I took the liberty of visiting the quartermaster for you, and picked out some artifacts I believed would be suitable to your new status. Tomorrow is Calibration; I will meet you at the entrance of the Salient tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock to escort you to the Calibration banquet in Meru, for your official debut in the Solar Deliberative. - Chejop Kejak, Chosen of Jupiter"

Huh. Nice of him to help me out...
I find myself severly disappointed with the SI's total lack of life-saving paranoia. His career as a Solar Exalted will be a short one, I suspect.

Honestly, how can you read that and not instantly panic?! The guy obviously isn't as clueless about Exalted as he'd have to be in order not to realize what he might be walking into there. Unless he's just not very bright, but when it comes to an SI who's also Exalted that would frankly shatter suspension of disbelief into a thousand teeny-tiny pieces. The only thing worse would be a Deus Ex Machina to somehow let him survive the Ursupation when hundreds of much more experienced and way stronger Solars do not.

Kejak is only Essence 6 right now. The Usurpation won't happen for at least a century AFTER Kejak reaches Essence 7. Vidicon has no real need to panic right now, and he knows it. Besides, he's in the Salient of the Unconquered Sun; Solars in the Salient are protected by the laws of Heaven, which Kejak has no need to break right now. Plenty of time for panic later.

That's fine. If the SI had reacted by thinking "Oh, shit!" followed by "no, wait, this can't be it, Kejak was still Essence 6!" that would have been perfectly believable. But that the thought would not even occur to him seems strange. The connection is really quite obvious.

Try putting yourself in the SI's shoes (should be easy enough :)). Unlike the author he doesn't know how the story will unfold. That means he'll at least be thinking "what if" before concluding that his fears are unfounded because X.

The complete lack of any reaction regarding the rather suspicious circumstances is what makes my SOD crumble, not the fact that upon more detailed inspection things might turn out to be fine.

I just assumed Gamer's mind chumped the reaction.

But Gamer's mind was perfect defense for compulsions. You could still be talked into shit but it lolnoped mind rape and awe effects.

Also Gamer's body lolnoped wound penalty's. He'd have dozens of 0 level hit boxes.

PC's Mind is an amazingly good benefit for a newbie Solar in the First Age. Especially when you're about to be introduced to your 299 older peers, most of whom are probably experienced in mindfuckery.

Vidicon doesn't seem like the social/political type, though, so the Deliberative is probably still going to be quite the challenge to deal with.

Calibration feast? Do not want. Run.
Calibration feasts are almost always perfectly fine, except for that one time.

You seem to be using 2.0 orichalcum rather than 2.5

does this indicate the 2.0 ruleset?

Also, where is Heavenly Transmutation Process from?

Oadenol's Codex, page 131.

Sorry, didn't think of that. Post edited.

Point taken. Health levels edited.

Health levels:

When I said lol-noped wound penalties I meant none ike this.

Like in a video he can perform a one hundred percent so long as he has resources. It doesn't matter if his max Hp if 9999999999999999 and he only has 1 left. So long as he has it he might as well be at 100%.
He doesn't even bleed or get scuffed either.

He is in this way blatantly inhuman.

I have to leave some realism and dramatic tension in there. This isn't D&D. He already has far more HL's than any Exalt of his Essence should have.

It's still a good reason to not just call it a Gamer cross, since really it's just a game fic taking cues from The Gamer. Not a bad thing, but a noticeable difference between how things work.

No you don't!

The realism that it. He can have just as many health levels as a newbie exalts of his level. They'd just be zeroes. Which is the point of Gamer's body if it's true to canon. That and pain in momentary a flich that disapears. It's lets him hit up above his weight class. But it's also makes him fragile. When he hits zero he's dead no dying. You can't glorius solar bullshit him back.

Often happens in Exalted or D&D fic threads. All you can do is work that scroll wheel, because geeks gonna geek out.

I'll echo the 'you have a thread that crosses (well, it says it crosses) two fairly crunch heavy universes. We're going to have discussions of maths.

The thing about [The Gamer] (the class/powerset) is that in it's universe, it's also unique for how it interacts with magic and Ki. Because the way Jee-Han's MP bar is just not how the actual mages of his setting deal with mana, and his MP bar also counts for his Ki. (Or at least im fairly sure, id have to re-check, but that's how he uses all those martial arts skills right?)

How would that work for local powerset?

---

Also, [Gamer's Body] has one big issue. If someone is trying to capture you, they might very well kill you. I mean, you don't visibly take damage, you can't seem to be KO'd, etc. They'd keep hitting you harder and harder until your HP eventually hits zero, and then bam you're gone.

Well, that's when you-as-the-gamer have to decide whether you'd rather die or surrender, to try to free yourself later. Or just find a way to flee, though I was taking it as read that that option was already off the table when the choices are down to capture or death.

Exactly. That's why I left in the wound penalties and the Incap. health level, and didn't say anything about preventing unconsciousness. If you let on that you can and will fight to the death, and you can't escape, you will be killed. If you weaken when you get hurt, like you SHOULD do, you're more likely to surrender or simply be KO'd.

And don't forget powers like Chaos-Repelling Pattern, which enforces the laws of Creation on the surrounding area, regardless of where said area is. [Gamer's Body] and [Gamer's Mind] are too difficult to fit into that framework (in my opinion, if Jee-Han was caught in the range of C-RP, he'd be royally screwed, since Creation's laws DON'T WORK THAT WAY), so I went for weaker versions of those powers which would fit in.

Technically speaking, they'd work within the laws, because Jee-Han was originally granted the power by whatever nebulous thing that decides these things did it.

As for any balancing stuff, I have no idea. The exalted side of things is stuff I've flicked through rather than actually ever participated in a game so...

Still, I hope the Manhwa isn't too bad a read :).
