We damn well can't risk the princess dying on us. I want her alive long enough to think about this.

That said, I'm not losing our Pilots. The 20 Years Worth of materials isn't anything compared to the personal cost it would have on North and Anja. Who knows, maybe we'll even get transfered to the Lily? Because so far, their crew of eggheads have proven to be deadweight.

Mosi runs the math in her head: Three lost in the initial approach. Three more from Costa's squad destroyed fighting the mecha that had been with the Rose at Phoebe. They are down to eight now, a little more than half their original strength, and if they're going to carry out their assigned task, that number cannot keep shrinking. And it will with Mosi's current tactics, swarming around the new model with their lighter mechas, trying to chip away at it here and there. It is going to pick them off one by one.

It should be 9 if you count all 3 Mecha so far lost on the enemy side. Or did Mosi forget to count properly the first Mecha lost?

There's a shocked silence, followed by a chorus of 'yes ma'ams', even if some sound skeptical. And right they should, given how well they've fared against the strange mecha so far. Still, though, they need to make this work. Mosi will make this work, for the seven brave soldiers who have already given their lives this day, and for her emperor. She'll destroy these ships, live to tell of it, and finally get her vengeance on the mother who betrayed her family. Then, maybe, finally, she'll be able to look for Amani.

Did they lose 6 or 7 Mecha on approach?

Where's the panicked emote reaction for a QM saying this?!

I'm right there with you, this forum lacking emoji support means I couldn't instead post Thinking Face.

Uh common questions or Xon would have an answer to that I think.

Losing pilots sucks, but I get the feeling that we might get more; the fleet's here, after all.

This is the first time I've tried to write one of these battle scenes without sketching out the numbers on both sides in detail and keeping track of them that way, and clearly even though it's tedious not doing that was a mistake. Fixed.

Two were sniped by Perbeck, three were killed in melee by her and Ito, and J6 took out two from Mosi's group.
Three were sniped by Perbeck, one was killed by Ito, two more were taken out by the Rose while chasing Perbeck. J6 had partially damaged two of the Vespulas but they fared a little better than the Banner Recon Types in terms of suitability in this fight. Six was the correct number, I just have no head for basic math and didn't do enough to keep track of it this time.

Sorry, mecha pilots.

Can anyone see if our erstwhile sister was the one to eliminate our pilots? Or it was other enemies?
I think I need to do a better job at conveying information like this. Mosi's unit was the one fighting J6, and she was noted to have taken damage but survived and retreated.

Okay, looking at things tactically I'm tempted to pick the material. We can probably jury-rig some powerful explosives I'm sure. What, you guys thought that material is actually going to make it to a shipyard? No, most likely it'd be used like makeshift Mines to cause serious trouble for the enemy.

But ignore the IWMD saving pilots has a serious tactical advantage. We've covered this before and we've seen it in every battle, they're indispensable. And losing one now will hurt us whenever the enemy hits us with their favorite tactic 'Throw mooks at it to soften it up, then hit them with the Ace.'

Just look at where having three seriously skilled Pilots in good mechs got us in this battle, they've proven themselves a valuable asset. Especially with the Rose's only Melee focused Mech on the line. Not to mention the hit to moral in a very dangerous situation.

Tough choices. I'm guessing Ito is the one who ate it :/

Little late to the party, I suppose, but I gotta say I really dislike these 'you failed in 3 of 5 ways' votes. Just in terms of mechanics, I'd really prefer QM fiat or random dice over having to choose what we lose.

Reminds me too much of the Worm trope "One eye, the nose, the mouth, or both ears."
