[X] Use this opportunity to retool some of the ship's less optimised scan systems that have always bothered you even if you have to run yourself and the technicians a little ragged (two downtime)

Edit: We aren't likely to get an opportunity to do this again any time soon, and accurate, up to date intell can save lives.

As much as I appreciate the importance of social, I cannot turn down the opportunity to further usurp Mazlo.
So, Mazlo is the 'less optimised' system we're cutting out of the sensor loop? Good to know. ;)

I'm... conflicted. But so is the thread!

This is an unusual opportunity, at a cost. This is war.

People, it is imperative that we focus on the scan systems, as they are more important than socializing, especially since we will most likely have another attack against us soon, and I suspect it's going to be bigger than the last one. Socializing can wait for now, we need to ensure that everything is fine so that we don't have any unpleasant discoveries during a fight.

Just so we are all aware, I would strongly caution against viewing social posts as not having any kind of utility vs improving the ship. Growing closer to others is an important element in this RP and it will unlock further options in the future. Not taking any time for yourself to relax in a more casual context also will have consequences that may or may not offset your original gain. I am not trying to curtail your choices here, but I would consider your options carefully.

Focusing on the scan systems is not guaranteed to make us more capable of handling another fight than the other options. Frankly, I don't think it's even likely that the scans will be more beneficial overall. This isn't just beneficial work vs relaxation; this is a matter of trade-offs and opportunity costs.

People keep saying, "When will we have another chance like this to fix those small problems we have with the scans?" The obvious answer is that we won't have another chance, because the next time we have downtime, there'll be a different work-related problem we'll have the opportunity to fix, and then another, and then another. We won't run out of them. Unless Gazetteer specifically notes one to be urgent, none of them will really matter more than the others.

Meanwhile, we can't treat the socializing as unimportant. True, we don't specifically know what benefits the various options hold, but we can't assume that they don't hold any; I think of them as mystery boxes with potential prizes inside. On top of that, we do know that optimizing the scans is exhausting, both for us and for technicians. We don't know whether that's likely to be an immediate problem, but it's fairly clear it will cause some sort of problem.

We have to remember to treat these not just as mechanical utility options, but as story options. The question is, how do we want this story to progress? The choices we make aren't pointless, but they'll each have their own costs and benefits that shape that going forward, and one choice will rarely be fundamentally, obviously better than the others.

I half wanna vote for Ito buuut heavy Banner boy can wait until he does something else cool.
decided against doing the scanner thing given what QM had to say on the matter, and I don't know if I like the notion that we just keep working silently on the scanners.

Unfortunately the only one of the three social options presented I actually want to see more of is Lady Perbeck. However picking her would mean either wasting a slot or voting for screen time with the friend, who I dislike, or the pilot who I don't care about.
Wish we had the option to look for useful/interesting civilians but it seems we missed our chance at that.

Hm. The way the option is worded makes me think this is the Perbeck option of working your subordinates to the bone, and considering they're the "less optimized scan systems" it seems less useful than insuring the experimental mecha has all the kinks worked out of the drone system.

Because the Night Lily doesn't even have the facilities to maintain a mecha so I doubt the Morgan is free of software bugs.

Similarly, I would be more inclined to take it if it were JUST North doing it. But the option is clear that it's North running herself AND the new technicians from the Lily ragged. I think this sets a bad rep for North among the Lily's members, those who she will have to continue working with in the future. They're already helping out, but they probably don't expect to be run ragged in doing a favor for the ship. It'll set an adversarial tone: she's the hard ass boss who can always find work for them.

Considering the sensor systems in question are merely "less optimized" I find it dubious they'll make more of a difference than say patching software bugs on the experimental mecha. Because all prototypes are full of bugs, and the fact that the Night Lily wasn't even ready to maintain the Morgan makes me doubt anyone has put anything remotely approaching enough time into fixing them, which explains why it only performed well at the start of joining the battle.

The way I see it the Anja, or Ito options are the actual relaxing options that are necessary for North to be mentally ready to dive into the 2-3 action necessary to fix the most pressing software issues the Morgan that are most impacting its' combat performance.

Because getting to know Perbeck seems more of a stress neutral option given her personality displayed so far that unlocks aforementioned option for North to work herself ragged, and the lack of any other options is more QM mercy to prevent us from shooting ourselves in the foot.

Can we write in a vote to go look for Faiza to draft her in helping us with the scanning issues @Gazetteer?

Like is it out of character for Amani to remember the girl who claimed she was a genius at working with Mecha and think to ask Captain Andre to see if she is good enough to be drafted into the ranks as a temporary technician to help with the most monotone work that any technician could so that regular technicians have more time to do more sensitive work?

[X] Spend time with Anja (one downtime)
[X] Get to know Lady Perbeck (one downtime)

While I would prefer to socialize with both of our mecha pilots to hopefully get a bonus to using mecha scans it won't win as it is so I'll switch to this.

Being a workaholic is fun and all, but talking to people is even better.

Er Lady Perbeck has the final say over everything mecha related on the ship, and the specialists will be very unhappy with it, which North needs to have a good working relationship with if she wants to help fix/improve the software used on the mecha in the future. Furthermore genius, or not she is still a kid, and that makes me somewhat inclined to not vote for such an option on principle.

Considering the Morgan appears to be designed to utilize a sensor suit comparable to the Huntress I think aiming for optimizing* the software that shares tactical data between mecha will improve** the survival odds of the pilots, build social links, and build up a set of skills that will incentivize Perbeck to use her influence to insure North is stationed*** aboard the Night Lilly in the future.

*There should be considerable room for improvement as the standard software isn't coded for use by a limited production run mecha, nor a cutting edge prototype mecha.
**Always a good idea when one of them dying results in North's only friend being sad, a sad princess, or someone whose sacrificed so much never being repaid for their dedication.
***This will hopefully only happen until after we reach friendly lines as the alternative is the Titanium Rose taking on the role of a decoy to allow the Night Lily to make it, and I actually like the characters stationed aboard her.

Guys, could we please not overwork both ourselves and the new technicians to improve a system that is already working pretty well? We've been doing a lot of work fixing Perbeck's mech, assisting negotiations, and then operating in a battlefield.

We have WoG that socialization is more than just fluff and that technical repairs aren't better preparation in and of itself.

@oberon You're vote has a space before the x so it isn't being counted.
