Perhaps a journey

To be fair, they're all OC inserts. Not that I can't understand some people disliking it if you've seen it too many times but...

In this case if it wins, it's going to be interesting, but it wouldn't be a insert from something else. Would probably give the secondary options Soldier / Scholar / Engineer, and do choices by vote.

True, but I can honestly say I haven't seen Any quests on this site that involve us playing a Fairy. Plus, I want to explore the world from the perspective of one who knows nothing about the world beyond her home.

Fairy gives us a chance to learn about this setting, Without it being assumed we know anything about the setting, and without the problems an Earth OC would give us.

Hound-Person (Male)
[X] Resident of Hub (Largest city, everything happens)

Honestly SB always goes for the earth human insert more then it doesnt and i almost always find it boring as it rarely deviates from the norm.

Eh, I'm still kind of hoping for the Horse Lords option. We could be one of the tribes that aren't raiding mongols all the time. And it also gives us a chance to explore the world from a different perspective that we'll probably never see up close. Especially since most of the world seems to classify all Horse Lords as "evil" and such that they are willing to create a united war band just attack them.

The fact that Horse Lords are also a physical powerhouse option really makes me want to try it.

Come on people, Fairy has so much potential for world Building!

With Fairy, we can see this world Lost Star has built, from the perspective of what is effectively a Native Outsider.

We get to see the world from the eyes of someone who hasn't seen any of it, and learn more about the world in general!

Plus, Fairy's won't get Any light at all unless we pick them. And I want to experience the one race we apparently won't get to see in his Necromancer quest.

Fairy (Female) - Tiny winged women, virtually unknown outside their home
[X] Resident of the Twisted Jungles (Dangerous, horrible place that no one wants to go to.)

Honestly? If these things live in a horribly dangerous jungle they gotta be pretty badass despite initial appearances. And if their abilities are virtually unknown, the rarity and mystery of whatever they can do enhances it's value and reputation. Much like the Necromancer thread, really.

Looks like a toss up so far. :) Interesting. Rather amused that the Fairy is getting so many votes.

Hmm, what was that girl Fairies name in Dresden again? The tiny Toot rival? :D

[X] Fairy.

Because being 30cm while everyone else is HUEG (comparatively) is potentially hilarious. :p

I don't particularily like the Fairy option, but that's just me.

[x] Female
[x] Human
[x] OMG, why are you from Earth?!
Someone, somewhere is already bitching about how we have too many threads where the protagonist is a normal person from earth, and that that's the boring option.

No. It is not.

It is the one where we have no idea what's going on, start with shitty stats, few skills and abilities (if any), and virtually zero resources.

We then turn this around with nothing more than luck, guts, and our brains, untill we have saved the town, rescued the princess, slain the dragon, learned wizardry, and gone swimming with the Orcan.

EDIT: In other words, I find character growth satisfying.

In other words, the wildly unrealistic one, right? I've seen a lot of ' Spacebattler SI' quests. By and large, either they're boring as hell, or the character is handed some absurd bullshit power to compensate for their general idiocy and incompetence. It's absurdly rare for them to actually use common sense or mundane knowledge to affect any change in events... Because modern technology takes a lot of precursors and economic wealth to implement.

The best 'earthman' quests I've seen just have the character know damn near everything about the setting and events which will take place in the near future, like the Mass Effect quest. That's simply not possible here.

My argument for Fairy: How many quests do you have to play a human? Compare that to how many quests where you can play something else.

[X] OMG, why are you from Earth?!
[X]Male

No, I don't find this option stereotypical or boring.

That's because I want this to be Captain Gordon, Defender of Earth!

Changing my vote to

(x) Fairy

I don't want to try to bring technology to the masses, and that seems like the inevitable endgame for a successful Earther. If we have to be a tiny fairy to avoid that then so be it.

Everything depends on the ability of the writer to execute.

Try going to THP and reading Renko's Adventure, Roll the Dice, or No Such Thing as Fairytales.

I'm not interested in power-gaming, or pulling SI bull-shit. What I want, is to start off from ground level, build up a character from scratch, and enjoy a good adventure.

Why the hell would that be the succesful Endgame?

This is a fantasy setting, with no less than five major magic styles, and dozens of minor ones. Why are you thinking about that, instead whether you want to be an alchemist or elementalist?

Besides, this is a Quest. Getting anywhere near the end is a major work in and of itself.

*Snerks*

If it ends up being Human - Earth, trust me, technology is probably going to be the least of your goals. It wouldn't gain much traction in this setting anyway. Some of it would most certainly be nifty, but it wouldn't be much of a gamechanger.

Character growth is all well and good. I support character growth. All my writing tends to be about character growth.

Emotional character growth that is.

And I see no particular reason that being a human from Earth is going to be much more emotionally challenging or interesting than being a fairy in a large people world.

(besides, watching SB trying to use the power they've been handed is a lot more hilarious than watching SB try to gain it)

That's incredibly true. Emotional development is the most delicious kind.

Seeing growth and change over time, the mental effects of decisions and others reactions to them... It is sweet. And makes me want to work on my Battle Fantasia story, but that's not relevant right now.

To be perfectly honest, I still don't particularily like the fairy option when we can play as an Orcan. I'd actually rather do that then human, but Fairy and Earth!Human are so far ahead in the lead that I have to take what I can get.
