Especially given this whole plan seems to rest on the idea that The Titan's, a group that has already proven itself to be smarter then Atregos, won't just detect and revert anything he tries to add to the machine.
well, it's more he's trying to add a bit of software to allow a backdoor access if you do specific things a specific way.

But if the Titans do detect and remove it then they are just in the same situation as they were before this attempt.

Chromie took a slow deep breath, "In this time, the agents of the Titans were still active. We are far… far in the past.
... My knowledge of WoW backstory is limited, what does she mean by 'agents of the Titans'?

Unless the Titan's response to someone trying to add that backdoor is to create lethal countermeasures that weren't previously a part of the system.

"Atreus, can you make a fake Malygos instead of pretending to be him?" Alexis asked and I raised my head, glaring at her,

Uh, sad that they don't know about Legendary Summons. It could work.

But of course it could not work too, (possibly) because the only reason it reacts with the Blues is Atregos tampering, and not because Malygos has permission...

In that case it's no longer Atregos's problem. Cause he'll be dead and the timeline is fucked. Oh and the story/series is finished.

As I said before (or was it over on SB?) the more mana a Summon takes, the longer Atregos needs to maintain physical contact to make said template. An Oliphant from Middle Earth took 5 or 6 Mana. A Malygos summon is gonna take way more than that. trying to maintain contact for the required time would not be easy and likely rather noticeable.

and there's no way to be sure a Summon would work either.

Oh right, I don't think he ever learned how to use Aether to supplement his summoning.

Still seems like an assumption though, and kind of a stupid one since they didn't even bother to have Nozdormu take ten seconds and try.

And of course it opens up the question of why Atregos doesn't just make a device that tricks the flight scanning portion of it. ^_^

Doesn't really feel like that much of an assumption?

I assume, since Atregos has diagnostics running, he can see the checks happening.

Is dragon? Y/N Alexis fails
Is blue dragon flight? Y/N Everyone except ren Atregos fails
Is Aspect? Y/N Ren fails
Is Malygos' signature? Y/N
(Guess) Has Spark? Y/N Atregos fails for having it.

I would point out the Titan's themselves wouldn't be able to access the system if those were the only criteria that allowed access.

Ergo simple logic would dictate that meeting certain unknown criteria allows a potential user to bypass those checks.

As to why this might be relevant. Atregos didn't copy the Aspect of Magic. He took a scan, made something that radiated a signature hitting all the points his scan showed the Aspect hitting. And then held that up to trick the Titan scanner into thinking he had the Aspect of Magic.

And while that's great for tricking the Titan scanner, it bypasses answering a specific question. "What if there is an active portion of an Aspect which interfaces with Titan magi-tech?" It's not even much of a stretch that such a thing would exist. Because active hand shake protocols are a pretty basic part of digital security.

Is it garunteed? Nope. Is likely? Maybe not. But is it something you should spend twenty seconds trying before risking the local reality by messing with the Titans? I would say absolutely.

 well of course there's going to be a check "Titan Y/N?" Where Y gives full access, but there's no way for them to fake that so why list it?

There's probably some checks for Old One contamination or maybe undead nature as well that they didn't notice because they all passed

I rested on the wind, looking down at the construction below. It was... a massive hole in the ground. They had not simply built into the mountain it seemed, they had built the mountain on top of the machine.

We weren't the only dragons there either, Blacks molding the earth, Blues working on the construction of the machine, assisted by... what looked like clockwork gnomes and dwarfs made from stone.

This was before. Before the curse of flesh.

We were way back in time. How long I didn't know. I suppose it didn't really matter.

I banked, following Chromie down towards the ground in a clearing that had been made in the thick jungle surrounding the place. Landing, I took a deep breath as I folded my wings, sniffing the air.

It smelled good. Okay, ignoring the dust the black dragons were throwing up while reshaping the earth for the structure at the very least. But the forest around... the very air.

It... no... no, it wasn't smell. Not really.

It was magic. The mana of the world felt clearer than I ever felt it before. Untainted by the touch of millions of spell casters and billions of spells. Untouched by the foul taint of necromancy or Fel.

Ren landed behind me and I glanced back at her before moving around Chromie, looking up at her, "What now?"

"Now, you do your thing," she said quietly, "Rengosa and I watch your tail, but this is your show Atregos."

Gulp.

I really... I really really hoped I could actually do what I told them I could.

"Need to get closer," I said, "Close enough to touch if possible. And that means down into the construction site."

Hopefully nobody will materialize to yell at us about hardhats and high vis vests.

Chromie nodded and turned her head to look at Ren as she moved up to us, "We move casually and quietly, keep your heads down and don't talk to anyone. And no mortal forms, that didn't exist yet. Humans had not evolved and gnomes were still mechanical."

Which made sense.

We moved quickly and quietly, keeping out of everyone's way while looking like we knew where we were going. I couldn't help but wish I had a laptop or a clipboard to carry around just to complete the image. A tie and a clipboard make you invisible.

I would have prefered to put an illusion over Chromie so she'd look like a blue or a black, she was the only bronze I seen at the site, but while my illusions were good, with this many blues around somebody were bound to spot it at this close range and that would attract even more attention. As is, it seemed like everyone was ignoring her for now.

A minute or so and we reached the main excavation and I poked my head over to the edge to peer down.

It wasn't just a machine. It was an underground tower, circular and stretching down into the darkness.

I couldn't see the bottom, it disappeared into the ground at the bottom, kilometers down. Whatever the Titans did, they built at scale.

"What do you see?" Ren murmured softly as she poked her head out next to mine.

"That is bigger than I expected," I murmured back, "And the outside is sealed off that unbreakable stone the Titans like to build with. I need to get inside. So we fly up and head down inside."

"The inside looked… dangerous," Ren said quietly.

I nodded, "Won't be active yet. We'll have to be careful."

With that, I spread my wings and jumped into the air beyond the edge, beating my wings to climb upwards towards the top of the tower, leaving the rest to follow.

Passing across the top revealed the inside. It wasn't active yet, I could see the gears and pistons and I could feel the magic radiating from it even from this distance, but… it wasn't active.

No dragons inside either which was good, nobody to see me work and this would be difficult enough to do without that.

I banked into a circle before starting to head down into the middle of the tower, avoiding a massive gear as I shifted lower, heading for a platform set up in the middle of the tower.

Beating my wings, I settled down to land, folding my wings as I drank in the magic all around us. It was… amazing.

It was like magic in this time was richer than in our time.

"Atregos?"

I looked to Chromie to find that she had landed next to us. I then quickly nodded, "of course," and closed my eyes to start to focus on the enchantments already woven into the structure all around us, all through the metal, the stone, th-

"Dragons," a voice said, ringing through reality and my eyes snapped open, turning to look up at the massive form approaching us from a side opening. Magic radiated from him, whirling around him. He was wearing sandals and a bronze like set of armor and robes, encrusted with gems.

Loken approached us, the Titan Keeper walking slowly, but his eyes… his eyes were something more. Something deeper. Something… infinitely older, wiser and more powerful.

Out of those eyes Norgannon regarded us in a calm blue glow. A feeling of calm flowed through me and the fears, the worries about the end of the world... It all flowed out of me.

Everything was right in the world.

"This is not a place for you," He said, his voice making reality itself make it real and I knew it to be True, "Go back to your Leader, Bronze," he continued before looking at me and Ren and as his eyes fell on me fully, I felt his will through me.

"Return to your duties, little ones," the Titan possessed Keeper said, "Go inspect the ley lines leading to this site, our work is too important to risk."

I wanted to inspect the ley lines.

He was right. I should inspect the ley lines.

Spreading my wings, I took to the air.

Maybe this will finally make him realize he's full of Titan programing so he can get rid of it and finally start growing as a Planeswalker.

After this mission, It probably would be a priority, even if he really dislikes the person he has to go to.
Though, If the titans were smart, they tied the magic/longevity/intelligence improvements together with the obedience suite.
So, even if the dragon wants do that, they have to choose between crippling themselves and being their own dragon.Or retaining the benefits, and having to deal with the obedience suite.

I kind of wonder at this point if Alexis might be the only one who can actually accomplish the greater mission.

Because I could easily see the Titan's putting a perception filter on their creations in concerns to bit's of their tech to keep said creations from ever figuring it out in full. And such a block would certainly explain why Atregos keeps running into brick walls in his attempts to access it.

well in that case they're fucked, because Alexis doesn't have the know how to do the job even if she could sneak into the place.

We don't really know what know how Alexis has.

Because she seems to treat her time with Atregos as one giant vacation where she never actually does anything except summon the occasional monster for him to train against. But remember, she's both a trained Planeswalker and, factoring in the time travel, has been a Planeswalker a good deal longer then Atregos.

We do have a good idea of what she's capable of? Granted this is only teachable spells, but she ran out of things to teach pretty quick. She almost died to Geraka.
If she thought she had any applicable skills or summons here, she would have been mentioned them or been using them since Atregos has been grinding his head against this thing for god damn months at this point, and is visibly distraught over the whole thing. And she's been part of the strategy meetings so Its not a 'you never asked' thing.

Edit: Or Spells.

Isn't Alexis a White/Blue focus plainswalker?

Because I always thought that was more the limiting factor for teaching Atregos due to white's focus touching heavily on Soul's and Necromancy then a limit to her actual spells.

You have mistaken White for Black here dude, White's focus is all about Holy/law type magics, Soul/Necromancy stuff is all black.
