The more I hear about season 3 (and the pacing/writing/tone change issues) the less and less I actually want to watch RWBY beyond amusing shorts on the Internet and reading fan fiction. Killing characters I like is a sure fire way to kill my interest. I don't know if they regret their choice but it does seem to have cost them viewers and good will (along with the other issues) if the Internet, the bastion of integrity that it is, can be believed.
Unfortunately one of the largest issues is simply the passing of Monty Oum. It really was his baby and without his guiding hand I feel a lot was lost. I just don't really have the enthusiasm to follow it like I once did.

It may have cost them goodwill, but it was good for story. It gave the events a sense of stakes and meaning that it would lack if everyone always came home safe. Sometimes for the good of the story motherfuckers gotta die.

regarding rwby S3 (to limit the continuation of the derail)
the other side of the blade is that killing a character "because it was in the script since years ago" (pyrrha) CAN be bad for the story. i'm actually rather neutral to pyrrha's death, i just detest the idea of any writer slavishly adhering to a script while overlooking that the story actually evolved in a different form from what was envisionned.)

SO....P.E.N.N.Y.

really loved the story, hope Penny won't get "planned-obsolescenced" into an early grave. :p

i particularly loved the realisation of the way you had inserted the character with "canadian mother with ... a condition",
collin as a proud father who remains rather unaware of that part of himself,
or missy valiantly trying the maintain her civilian identity ^^
really great job and thank you for sharing

Except her death totally fit the tone and plot of the show and was actually well done and helped to evolve the show further.

Refocusing on the story I wonder if Taylor gets a superpower related to RWBY or if she might have a totally unique power.

Penny's backstory in RWBY was not fully fleshed out. She's a synthetic construct with an aura. That's all she revealed. But my headcanon is that she was built in the image of her father's actual daughter who died. Or maybe she was in a coma. Either way, they did the soul transfer thing. But the memories could not be preserved.

So now we'll get the opposite, with memories preserved, but a different soul!

Maybe for the best because I didn't know what the appropriate response to a more familiar one would be. Maybe that's why Dragon has been trying to persuade her to use the less formal term of 'dad', to bring me out of my comfort zone. I am trying to upgrade my social interaction assistance software in case she finally convinces her.

Obviously the problem with the Social Interaction Assistance Software is that it can't learn social interaction when it is attached to a swirling nexus of social failure.

The solution is equally obvious, build a artificial face and head to mount the Social Interaction Assistance Software in so that it can directly interact with people and upgrade it's systems.

But it could be annoying to have a Social Interaction Assistance Software Head sitting in his lab all the time, so he should also build it an ambulatory chassis so it can seek out social interaction.

Then he can assign it to follow Penny around to learn her social cues.

Then whenever Penny wants to socialize, he can just point her at the Social Interaction Assistance Software Head Ambulatory and it will do the socializing for him!

...until the new robot SIASHA shows up and wants to socialize.

But is that efficient?

Honestly I think Armsmaster just kind of develops a level of comfort with inefficiency. Because otherwise he'd pretty much go off the deep end using a light switch.

Like, it's all kind of awful, and he's really glad he can't see the interior workings of anyone's computers or he'd probably turn villain the moment he walked into someone's office, but the little stuff just doesn't bother him anymore.

So... I'm fairly certain that Taylor hasn't triggered yet, and given she stays friends with Penny, I doubt that it's likely to happen any time soon.

Hmm... given hanging out with a shaker, a biotinker, and some advanced tinker-tech, as well as having QA... what kind of power might Taylor get if she were to trigger, say, during a bank robbery while hanging out with Amy?

Edit: Well, at least I think the bank robbery is the next major event that could perhaps include Taylor.

The Undersider bank robbery is 3 months away. Anything can happen.
This. I could see her triggering at some point before then (as well as butterflying away anything too close to the canon bank robbery), but the question is how and when, since that will have at least some effect on her power. One thought that occurs to me is Penny being injured at some point due to the actions of a cape, and Taylor thinking Penny is dead. Whether Penny survives or not, the belief that she's dead could easily be enough stress to trigger.

Well, you've gone and done it. I now have voice actors for Taylor, Missy and Amy. Arryn Zech, Lindsay Jones and Kara Eberle respectively.
Seriously, once I started hearing Taylor in Blake's voice, the rest just fell in place.

Does this make them the new Team RWBY? I mean, their personalities and powers do kinda of align...

Missy/Ruby - Young but trying to be mature (and often failing), tends to be very expressive and over-reacting. Powers good for quickly moving across the battle field. Small and constantly underestimated. Punches well above her weight class.
Amy/Weiss - Rich background. Strained relationship with one parental figure, the other absent from their lives. Very powerful abilities, but personal insecurities prevent her from utilising it to its fullest extent. Sister means well, but has trouble connecting/communicating.
Taylor/Blake - Quiet, somewhat depressed. Was betrayed by a close friend, finds it hard to open up to new friends due to past history. Power (should Taylor trigger) allows for battlefield control via multiple attacking bodies.
Penny/Yang - Quirky, highly defensive of another team mate. Power and mentality makes them a strong front-line combatant and agro-sponge.

Sure, Penny/Yang doesn't quite line up as well as the other three, bit the similarities are unmistakeable.
