Alright, so, you're gonna ask the horse?

Well, it's a relief to know that you folks haven't lost your NorseQuest edge after that hiatus.

I support asking Olfossa if they're down to break the law.

Immunity means that, should you be killed while under immunity, your kin can demand weregild for your death. This weregild is usually much greater than normal, as not only are you killing a man, you are also breaking his immunity to do so.
If people can use wealth to get away with murder, I wonder why our shadowy nemesis didn't just hire Viking 47 to kill Barki.

In practice, this means that you cannot engage in business such as trade or other exchanges of money, not legally anyhow.
Everyone who voted for immunity in a major trade hub must be feeling pretty silly right now.

One possibility is the whole 'we're sorta related to a king' thing. I doubt he's gonna mobilize his whole army if some no-name asshole kills us, but whoever set this up is rich as hell, which means they are a person of note. If they are already in a position where the King of Denmark knows who they are and might not be averse to attacking them, them killing us or hiring us killed gives him a perfect casus belli.

I get the feeling that, if we bring him with us, Olfossa will end up being a major character in the story. Just Barki, the dog-lover with a fear of horses, and Olfossa, the surprisingly sapient Horse. And maybe Keld, depending on if we decide to bring him along or leave him with Bestla for his own safety.

Immunity
What is immunity when it comes to being an outlaw? Immunity means that, should you be killed while under immunity, your kin can demand weregild for your death. This weregild is usually much greater than normal, as not only are you killing a man, you are also breaking his immunity to do so.
Do we have kin who could actually claim weregild?

I've updated your character sheet to account for your carrying capacity as well as altered how I'm keeping track of your food status

In short, you may store up to five items on your person. Pouches take up 1 slot but can be used to freely stow a certain amount of small items and food. Equipment and clothing does not add to the item limit.

I am now keeping track of how many meals you have on you rather than days. A Norseman eats two meals a day but can go down to one without starving--though you won't grow any stronger during that time.

This upcoming update will give you an opportunity to retrieve items from your house.

At least for us, since we managed to be forthright and drengóttr and thus avoided Nid.

That's fair.

To be clearer, many of the things that can get you Outlawed are Nid, and thus cost Ordstirr, but not all of them and the legal process of Outlawing itself does nothing directly to your Ordstirr. It can potentially cause issues with Ordstirr gain going forward, but only potentially and only certain kinds, and it does nothing to your current supply.

Yeah, the real thing is you get Ordstirr by Doing Things and people Recognizing That You Did That Thing.

It's just that being in contact with other Norse when you're an Outlaw is dangerous, because they can't help you, and killing you is beneficial to their own legend unless you're in a place of Immunity. But that doesn't mean you can't get Ordstirr, it doesn't have to be Norse to recognize you for Doing The Thing to get it.

Sorry this is taking a while to get out, folks. Some personal life stuff came up and it's eating a lot of my time.

I will have it done tomorrow, though, as I've got a nice long block of time to write in.

Four hours pass in a blur of non-stop riding as the sun dips below the horizon and plunges the group into a moonless night. The stars barely enough to see one's hands by, Barki's forced to slow to a gentle walk if only to spare Olfossa an injury. Still, even with the light as poor as it is, Barki knows his land. Soon a bend, next an arbor, and then his house on the hill. That's all there's left to travel, all the distance to cross.

And yet, as Barki rounds the bend and Keld's fur stands on end, the Fates will always have their say.

The wind dies to a close-throated whisper as the stars wink out one-by-one and the buzzing of insects comes to an end. Trees bend away from the path as if caught by the great force of some invisible storm as grass uproots itself in a wave of green, all to get away from the encounter they know soon approaches.

The earth itself trembles as the clouds flee, making a break for the horizons as the cawing of crows fills the flat air. Shadows lengthen as all sources of light screw their eyes shut, fear robbing them of their gaze.

Thunder cracks in an empty sky as a flash of lightning reveals that which lurks ahead.

Reclining on a throne of ice with a fist propping up his chin, half of Harald Ice-walker's face is cast in shadow as he waits with legs crossed and an axe across his lap. In the darkness, the only source of any light is the occasional crack of clear-sky lightning in the distance.

"Hello, Barki."

AN: Sorry about the wait, I've gotten most of the update done but was unable to finish it all up today. Have a teaser!
