*record scratch* Wait, WHAT?!
While I'm reminding myself of how this works... here's another obvious violation.

The universe expands, hence photons red-shift. Everyone knows that, but what you might not immediately realize is that this also violates conservation of energy -- photons 'leak' energy over time, depending on their location, as their frequency falls. Again, it's a non-issue -- Noether's theorem states that conservation of energy is caused by the laws of physics staying the same over time (or vice versa), and the expansion of the universe means they're not staying the same, in this sense.

The corresponding duality for space is conservation of momentum. Space and time are the same thing, hence these are really the same conservation law. They look little alike; this is largely because everyone has a four-momentum pointing straight forward in time, with no components in space. For a tachyon I suppose the space component would look like the time component does to us.

Are the workings of a future space car really this relevant to the thread?

That would fit with their strong aversion to anything that does non-magical damage. Who's crazy enough to drive around in a vehicle with a fuel-air bomb strapped to the frame just waiting for an otherwise mostly harmless impact or stray shooting spell to set it off?

Heck, as of Force (as in, several years after StrikerS), the techies of Bureau space are apparently starting to doubt the viability of Magical Reactors for generating their Electricity and looking for something new.

I mean, the people of Bureau space have an aversion to even magical damage, as when it is uncontrolled, it can manifest as potential physical damage.
Like, you know, dying when getting exposed to a mana reactor entering meltdown, aka the Canon death of Alicia Testarossa in all versions of canon. Or, say, a particularly dangerous Lost Logia blowing up.

If the author is going to have them appear in the story, maybe? If not, well, we might better stop.

...Though, the broader topic kinda connects to what sort of "weirdness" Taylor might start seeing in her stint on Mid.

Like, how the people of Bureau Space 'strangely' avoid using certain magical methods of doing things even when they are a potential choice that seems harmless.
While the "ICE with Water and Reactant for Automobiles" as in Canon is definitely too weird to think about (at least for me), what should be taken from that is that, at least on Mid, people try to not use magic if it isn't exactly necessary to do something.

NO! The posters, however, are bored.

...And that is probably true, yes.

Is anyone else now picturing Signum chasing new recruits around the training grounds with a flaming Nerf bat?...

Well I wasn't before... I think Vita is the one more likely to do something like that, though, while Signum looks on hiding her amusement behind a serious scowl and Shamal and Zaphira are somewhere between concerned and resigned.

Meanwhile Hayate and Vita watch on with a large bucket of popcorn.

Well, depending on how well Signum has control over her magic, she could probably pull that sort of trick with a Shinai. Yes, that Bamboo Blade is somehow on fire.

(In the supplementary manga for A's, during the months prior to Hayate's state worsening, Signum would spend her spare time helping out in a Kendo Dojo, so she would know her way around a Shinai.)

It would be more like Vita chasing her trainees with a squeaky hammer that does nothing to stop the actual pain while Hayate is laughing in the background and Nanoha with her head in her hand torn between sighing and laughing.

This might turn into an actual omake later and if it does I'm holding the three of you responsible.

Collectively, each of the trainees felt a chill roll down their spine in spite of the palpable heat rolling off of Sensei's bamboo sword.

Well, it had been a bamboo sword, and there was a decent chance there was still a sword somewhere under the vaguely pointed column of fire in her hands.

"Don't worry," Signum spoke softly, and the reassuring tone was somehow all the more terrifying for it, "this is a training exercise, so you won't die even if you get cut."

"But!" Vita chimed in, lifting a giant rubber hammer with the word 'PIKO' stamped on the front. "If it didn't hurt a little, there'd be no incentive to dodge, and you wouldn't learn anything that way."

Off on the sideline, Hayate winced, and silently apologized to the recruits who now had to bear the brunt of Vita's displeasure with the decorations on her training hammer. Perhaps the use of the 'piko' was a little too excessive?

...Nah. It's helpful for teaching the recruits not to underestimate anything just because it looks comical!

Where does PIKO come from?
Amy's hammer from Sonic the Hedgehog, was the first Comically Oversized mallet to be named such, namely from the Muted sound of it's impact. Not that the Rubber coverings on either side of the hammer actually stopped any damage.

Actually, it's just the japanese term for squeaky hammers, the Piko Hammer as used by Amy Rose debuted in Sonic The Fighters. which was released on June 23rd 1996. an earlier use of the term(Localized as Pow Hammer) predates it by a few months, that being a Spell usable in Tales of Phantasia, which was released on December 15th 1995. the spell in question, of course, dropped a squeaky hammer on an enemy to inflict Stun.
There was also a stronger spell in that same game called Piko Piko Hammer that dropped an even bigger hammer(screen-filling in fact!) to stun all enemies.
So Amy's hammer actually isn't the original, just one of the more well-known ones.

To stay more on-topic though, I find it amusing how Taylor will evidently be merrily diving headlong into paperwork in the next main chapter according to the preview.
Then again, having Ace-class capabilities(I mean, Tay's hooked into a Unison Device. that's generally a pretty hefty amp yeah?) in some fashion does generally mean one has to be a bit off in the head. Hayate has her thing for cosplay and just generally being a troll, Nanoha doesn't know the meaning of self-restraint, and so on. plus from what I understand, Danny is the same about paperwork.
Come to think of it, even with the most recent stunt Fate pulled in Ch.7.5, she's still probably got her head on straighter than the others yeah?

Simply from seeing Taylor's abilities I would put Taylor herself at an S-(Air/Synthetic) ranking from sheer power and movement alone, with the minus for no barely any experience using her power. Mariposa is more then likely to be SS+(Air/Synthetic) on both experience and power. Their Unison'ed state is more likely to be SS(Air/Synthetic) due to Taylor dragging them down a little but that would change with time and experience. They are probably gonna be the only ones with a SSS rank once Taylor catches up in a few years.

I would also point out that a predisposition towards paperwork is a good thing to have for Taylor's job as an apprentice (and thus, eventually full time) librarian in the Infinite Library.

Nanoha doesn't know the meaning of self-restraint
Lies and slander! Nanoha knows full well the meaning of it, she beats it into teaches her students it after all, even if she has to cool their heads a little.

The end-goal is to not only have it as a job but also a weapon. Hayate may have her book, but lets see her try to measure up against the Infinite Library's catalogue.

Found this the other day, and I'm all in on this train. I absolutely love how you've captured and refined the themes from the Nanoha side (all my Worm knowledge I get from fanfics).

I've gotta ask, is Mariposa's sweet tooth just a random character trait, or is it specifically because she's a butterfly?

This is a bit closer to being a review post than anything. I'm not familiar with the comments sections in regular fiction threads so if that sort of thing is frowned upon then I apologize. And tough luck.

I'm so glad to see another Worm/Nanoha fic, especially one that is set in TSAB space.

Post-Vivid especially is an interesting setting. One that I've never read before. Authors usually stay away from this area. Though now I've had a taste and I only want more. Vivid, Strike, and Detonation are the MGLN animation I haven't gotten around to viewing yet, though now I'm determined to cross 2/3 of those off when I get some time.

But back to the story.

Man I could gush for hours. The world building in this story is consistent and incredibly strong. There hasn't been a time yet where I've felt like any of the additions or extrapolations have been overdone or unnecessary. Mariposa and the Free States are amazing and I can't wait to learn more about them. I'm not an expert on losing home planets, but based on what I am familiar with I feel like you've portrayed a device in her grief well. The bit where she's lamenting about never seeing the sun rise over Espira again while trying to be positive was strong. Poor girl had her purpose ripped out from under her along with everything she's ever known. I hope we get to see more from her. I've always loved stories where characters have a companion relationship like a unison device and their partner.

I'm enjoying this Taylor vs Taylor conflict that we've been having so far. She often is her own worst enemy for better or worse. But now she has Mari and the Takamachi gang to gently nudge her in the right direction. And in the current situation her stubbornness is working in her favor. Had Taylor been a bit more recovered at this point she would have been able to shoot down Viktoria and Harry without feeling like she was falling back into the habits she was trying to avoid. But between that, and the fact that Taylor wants to improve herself and was reaching the limits of what could be done with target dummies, I'm going to get my first Vivid fic so I'm happy.

It also seems that Fate will be returning soon. Im unsure as to what you have planned between Fate and Taylor, but I think it will be fun.

Overall I'm enjoying the story a lot, and am excited for the next chapter.

No she follows it herself as well. Its just that sometimes there are things more important then just yourself.
