Fate was gripping Nanoha's shoulder, while Vivio was hugging her Mama's waist and anchoring herself.
Taylor actually was worried for once, and even Mariposa was knocked out of her depression because of fear...
Throughout Midchilda, alarms were ringing.
Nanoha, for her part was still staring wide-eyed and blank-gazed at the report about their discovery of Taylor's Earth Bet.
"Earth Bet has such sad eyes..."
That's...
actually, yeah, that's genuinely in-character for Nanoha.
So, where does the story go from here?
It seems like it's going to be a fair few chapters of 'Nanoha cast trying to fix Taylor' which I really don't care to read followed by maybe something interesting happening with the Infinite Library?
In all honesty, if you wanted to utilise or explore the Nanoha setting, plunking Taylor into the IL is quite possibly one of the worst ways of doing it.
She's completely cut off from her own planet, the entities won't give a shit about her so for now they are completely out of the story. All we are left with is Taylor failing to social in Nanoha.
So, where does the story go from here?
EDIT: I don't dislike this story, in fact I quite enjoy it. But you seem to have written yourself into a corner, unless Taylor finds something in the IL.
See, here you're making the mistake of thinking that we're still playing by Worm's rules. Lyrical Nanoha is less of the Lawless Wasteland that so much of Earth-Bet is, and a lot more modern-day Europe: generally peaceful, but the last war left dangerous crap lying around everywhere, with the occasional asshole thrown in for good measure. there simply
isn't any way to get a long and interesting story there without giving the main character a home and job. the only reason why Nanoha gets into so many action-based stories is because she's in the magical equivalent of a SWAT team
I like where the story is right now, even tho I feel that just like the PRT they are looking for high powered individuals and if they aren't working with them the will keep a eye on you whether you like it or not. I can't see Fate's organization caring that much if there was just a person displaced with no Device.
I'm just praying that we aren't subjected to Vivo, who is almost as annoying as Vista. Small kids in stories super powered or not annoy the hell out of me. Slice of life and Taylor realizing things on her own without being Nanoha'd/Yunno/Mistress of the Tome of Death to death.
The TSAB DOES share some similarities with the PRT, but they're just superficial ones. They would've gotten involved in the same way in Taylor HADN'T had Mari, but possibly without Nanoha and friends along for the ride.
Although the TSAB is on the lookout for High-powered or exceptionally talented individuals, it's less with the intent of recruiting them (though that is a bonus if it happens), and more with the intent of insuring that they don't get someone blowing up a planet or anything. They will Keep an eye on Taylor, but it's gonna be less 'Recruit Her!' and more 'Make sure she doesn't feel like she needs to go nuclear'.
Excellent chapter, but I'm not so certain I like where this seems to be going now? I mean, I don't hold any special knowledge about authorial intent, but tying Taylor to one of the least interesting characters from canon, Yuuno, and setting her up to be a librarian seems...a misstep. I get the Infinite Library actually does hold some danger, but it feels like the wrong kind of danger? It's not a setup for character/event-driven conflict, it's a setup for visiting the Temple of Doom as your nine-to-five, but we don't have Nazis chasing us or whatnot. A war with nobody to fight. Does that make sense to anyone else?
eh, it feels more like an Intra-personal Drama than anything else, with our characters slowly dealing with the various issues that have built up over time, possibly without even noticing it.
in other words, a refreshing new take on old issues. haven't gotten something like that around here for a while, and I, for one, am genuinely looking forward to a world where Taylor actually gets to sit back and recover from her trauma.
