Oglethorpe's dream: A Colony of Georgia quest

For those unfamiliar with the Savannah Ricer, the north side of town is closer to the Atlantic.

I suggest we save that for a Battery and later port expansion.

At the same time it's also worse land and is great for a ghetto, which is what we use I for noadays.

Also dudes, if we have a land lottery we can charge a pittance for it to raise dosh, and make sure only the right folks hold land.

@Atlanta-Georgia , have the Salzburgs set up in Ebenezer yet?

[X] Land lottery-People put there name in a jar and one family was randomly selected for that plot of land
[X] Make the jews go hang out with those crazy Germans that think they can grow silk off that stream in the middle of nowhere.

They will be covered in the next update they arrived in late 1734 early 1735.

Slazburgers!!!
Georgia was a unique colony some would call Georgia weird. But that was just part of the colony's charm. As the year of 1734 dragged on Georgia steadily grew. Early in the year the Trustee government of the colony passed a new bill on how to distribute land. The Trustees came of with a unique system to distribute land. The way this system worked was a family could claim any plot of land they wanted. But if another family disputed the land they had to gamble for the land in the City Hall under the watch of city officials. The people received this new system...

Dice Roll-99

Very well People took to the system well the people were expecting some drawn out overly bureaucratic process and were quite surprised by overly loose for the Trustees anyway process. The problems that came with this system were.....

Dice Roll-84

Also surprisingly very little there were a few fights like that fist fight that broke out on the North side of Savannah. Slowly but surely more people moved to Savannah but no new towns were springing up in Georgia. But Oglethorpe had recruited a group of people refereed to by the Georgians as Salzburgers. The Salzburgers while grateful to Oglethorpe wanted to have there own settlement but Oglethorpe didn't know where to put them but he eventually decided.

[] Up River- They will settle slightly up river with Savannah being simply a boat ride to get to Savannah (New Ebeneezer)

[] Really Up River- we were planning on putting a small military outpost Far up river from Savannah we will just send the Salzburgers with the soldiers (Augusta)

[] Send them south- Send them south and have them settle up river on a completely new river (old Ebeneezer)

[] send them far south- send them to St. Simmons Island in the far south of the colony's claim (Fort frederica)

Georgia marches onward 1735
As the Salzburgers arrived the Oglethorpe had to decide where he would put them. After much debate he eventually decided to send them to establish a town called Augusta. A few months ago a small military fort was established far up river to establish a greater presence in Georgia's claimed territories. The fort was named Fort Augusta. Already it was hard to supply a Fort so far up river so it was decided to send the Slazburgers to establish a town under the protection of the fort. How did the Salzburgers react to this news....

Dice Roll=41

Not very well they were furious about being sent into what they considered complete wilderness 1/3rd of the entire Salzburgers abandoned Georgia crossing the Savannah River and settling in South Carolina instead. But luckily the other 2/3rds of the Salzburger population was calmed down and eventually convinced to settle next to Fort Augusta..... with the right bribes placed in the right hands of course.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Furthermore there was a debate if Georgia should direct settlement towards a specific direction some argued for the coastal region others argued to encourage settlement along the Savannah River to connect Savannah and Augusta. But in the end it is up to Oglethorpe to decide anything in the end he chose to.....

[] Direct settlement to the Coast- Securing the coast is vital to the colony's well being this must be done with all due haste

[] Direct settlement along the Savannah River- The interior of Georgia is the future of the colony it is vital that we secure the border with our hostile neighbor and fellow British colony South Carolina.

[] Do not direct settlement- Let the people choose
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Also of interest is that the Governor of South Carolina has died and His majesty's government is offering Oglethorpe the position Governor of South Carolina on the condition that he steps down from the Board of Trustees. But did Oglethorpe abandon the colony of his creation for personal gain...

[] Yes-He has formally resigned as the Trustee Governor the colony mourns the loss of her creator and awaits the new Governor appointed by the Trustees.

[] No-Our governor has honor he would never leave the colony for a better post like some common London Prostitute!

Augusta native here. The Augusta Arsenal played a decent role in Georgia's contribution to the Civil War and the World Wars. Glad Augusta got established early.

@Atlanta-Georgia Firstly thank you for making a quest about our home state. Love it. I work with the Center for Study if Georgia history as an intern so feel free to PM me if you have any history questions though you've obviously done your homework.

Georgia 1736
January,1- George Galphin (sometimes spelled Golphin) establishes a trading post at Ogeechee Old Town

January,10- Scottish Highlanders under the command of Hugh MacKaye arrive in Savannah on the Prince of Wales.

Janurary,19- The Highland Scots settle a town on the coast called New Inverness (Darien,Georgia)

February,5- Symond and London Merchant arrive at Tybee Roads. Among the passengers are Charles and John Wesley

February,6- The Wesleys disembark on The Peeper (now Cockspur Island)

February,19- Oglethorpe deciding that he wants to build a Fort on St.Simons after all lands on the Island to oversee final stage of construction after a short voyage from Savannah.

February,27- Christian Priber having left Georgia arrives in Charleston and petitions the Government of South Carolina for a warrant of survey (land survey rights)

March,7- John Wesley gives The first official sermon in Georgia conducted by an ordained priest of the Church of England. (Not actually in a church in one of Savannah's many public squares)

March,18- Oglethorpe heads south from Fort Frederica (St. Simons Island) to continue scouting the coast of Spanish-controlled Florida

March,23- Battery of cannon are mounted at Fort Frederica

April,11- Unhappy over an incident with James Oglethorpe, Charles Wesley leaves for England.

September,10- Responding to the threat of Spanish troops, General Oglethorpe writes his friend, Sir Joseph Jekyll, and mentions that Spain has 1,500 regulars in St. Augustine while there is only militia in Georgia

November,29- Oglethorpe returns to England to petition the crown for money to defend Georgia

Dice roll-59

Colonization of Georgia went okay with a steady stream of people settling along the Savannah river. Though not nearly as much people came as Oglethorpe hoped would. Georgia now has 1,000 new people settled along the Savannah plus the Highland Scots settled on the coast.

Georgia 1737 turn
Hey I'm implementing a new system tell me how you like it.

War between Great Britain and The Empire of Spain is an increasingly likely possibility as a British Colony that borders the Spanish it might be advisable to prepare.

Martial- pick one

[] reinforce Fort Fredrica- Fort Fredrica is the first and last line of defense if Fort Fredrica falls than there will be nothing to stop the Spanish from taking Savannah. So it would be advisable to reinforce the Fort so it can hold against any Spanish assault.

[] Build Fortifications in Savannah- Savannah the Capital and largest town of the colony is currently defenseless this needs to change.

[] Build Fortifications in Augusta- Augusta the second largest town in Georgia is defenseless this needs to change.

[] Recruitment of Militia- The Colonial Government has decided that a formal militia will be established to defend Georgia against the Spanish.

[] Appeal to The Crown- appeal to the King to send a regiment of Redcoats to defend the Colony.

[] write in
_______________________________
Stewardship- pick one

War, Turmoil and crisis might happen but nothing stops the management of Georgia.

[] Establish Courts- Georgia has no official Courts in the Colony all Trials are handled in public squares this needs to change.

[] Government Grants- Grant money so people can start up businesses and farms.

[] Borrow Money from The Crown- Georgia needs more money ask the Crown for a loan though this is unlikely as the total debt of the colony is nearing 5,000 pounds.

[] Request a new Priest- Savannah's priest recently left the colony for good let's ask the Church of England to send a new priest.

[] write in
______________________________
Intrigue- pick one

I spy with my little eye something....

[] Spy on Spanish Florida- It is best to keep tabs on enemies.

[] Spy on South Carolina- we are part of the same nation but relations between us are hostile might want to keep tabs.

[] write in
______________________________
Diplomacy- pick one

Diplomatic relations are an essential part of running any kind of Government.

[] Talk to South Carolina- Best to keep relations good with our fellow Colony.

[] Talk to Spanish Florida- Let is see if we can prevent a war.

[] talk to Creek Nation- Let us make deals with te Creek Nation to keep them out of a potential war or bring them to our side.

[] talk to Cherokee Nation- Let us make deals with the Cherokee Nation to keep them out of a potential war or bring them to our side.
